      John Thomas Bond, 51, of 100 Edgewood Drive, died Monday, March 15,
                                   1999.
      A native of Quincy, Fla., Mr. Bond was a son of the late Raymond C.
   and Pauline Hammond Bond. He was a real estate house inspector and was
   a founding member of St. James United Methodist Church. He was a Girls
        Little League softball coach and was a member of the Georgia
   Association of House Inspectors and the Athens Board of Inspectors. He
   was a former member of the Jackson County Board of Realtors and was a
    former owner and advocator of the restoration of the Morton Theatre.
       Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bernstein Funeral Home,
   with the Rev. Grady Wigley officiating. Burial will be in Oconee Hill
                                 Cemetery.
       Survivors include his wife, Susan Griffith Bond; a stepdaughter,
       Lindsey Pierson, Athens; and a stepson, Chris Pierson, Athens.
      The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral
                                   home.
           In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Amylodosis.

       John Randolph Bridges, 85, of Route 2, Box 154 C-1, died Monday,
                              March 15, 1999.
        Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Jackson Funeral Home.
           Burial will be in Walnut Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.
       Survivors include four daughters, Mary Kathryn Fuller and Carolyn
   Copelan, both of Georgetown, Rachel Ernestine Turnipseed, Albany, and
   Barbara B. Jones, Auburn; and a sister, Lourine B. Freeman, Hoschton.

                                   Athens
       Nida Daniel Brooks, 93, of 9246 Commerce Road, died Monday, March
                                 15, 1999.
       A native of Irwin County, Mrs. Brooks was a daughter of the late
     Forest C. and Venie Humphreys Daniel and the widow of Clarence L.
    Brooks. She was preceded in death by two brothers, W. Tom Daniel and
    Roy C. Daniel. She lived most of her life in Jackson County and was
   the retired owner of Brooks Store, Center, and was a member of Center
                          United Methodist Church.
        Services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Center United Methodist
      Church, with the Rev. Mike Willard officiating. The body will be
     placed in the church at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in the
                              church cemetery.
        Survivors include two nieces, Elaine Potts, Center, and Bebe D.
      Wells, Winder; three nephews, Tom K. Daniel, Jasper, William R.
   Daniel, Monroe, and Randall C. Daniel, Columbus; three sisters-in-law,
    Cleo K. Daniel, Jefferson. Romeze Brooks, Center, and Bonnie Brooks,

      Walter R. Brown, 82, of 103 Woodvale Drive, died Monday, March 15,
                                   1999.
         A native of Rockingham, N.C., Mr. Brown was a son of the late
   William and Myrtle Apple Brown. He was retired from Clarkesville Mill
    after many years of service. He was a member of Clarkesville Masonic
   Lodge 325, was a former deacon at Clarkesville Baptist Church, and was
           a board member of Habersham County Housing Authority.
       Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Habersham Memorial Chapel
   Funeral Home, Demorest, with the Rev. David Turner officiating. Burial
                     will be in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
      Survivors include his wife, Ada Brown; a daughter, Glenda Lewallen,

        Winford Lee "Wimp" Cochran, 57, of 1721 Martin Villa Road, died
                          Monday, March 15, 1999.
         A native of Draper, N.C., Mr. Cochran was a son of Ruth Hawks
    Cochran of Elberton and the late Juel Cochran. He was of the Baptist
   faith, was a carrier driver for Emory World Wide, and was a member of
                        the Georgia National Guard.
       Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Berry Funeral Home, with
       the Rev. Larry Finger officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst
                                 Cemetery.
       Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Joy Smith
     Cochran; a son, Jayson Chatham, Spokane, Wash.; a sister, Marvene
    Allen, Elberton; a brother, Fred Cochran, Lavonia; and a grandchild,
                              Cameron Cochran.

      A native of Italy, Mrs. Fortson was a daughter of the late Mr. and
   Mrs. Betti and was the widow of Edward N. Fortson. She was a homemaker
            and was a member of Gateway United Methodist Church.

                              Watson Franklin
                                  Elberton
        The Rev. Thomas Watson Franklin, 83, formerly of 1522 Franklin
               Drive, Elberton, died Sunday, March 14, 1999.
      A native of Elbert County, Mr. Franklin was a son of the late Paul
    Thomas and Alice Elizabeth Nelms Franklin. He was a retired Baptist
     minister, having pastored Mount Olivet Baptist Church, Flat Shoals
      Baptist Church and Gordon Memorials Baptist Church, all in Hart
   County. In 1954 he founded a new church in Elberton, which became West
     End Baptist Church. He pastored this church for 27 years. He was a
                     member of Elberton Baptist Church.
       Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Hicks Funeral Home, with
   the Revs. C.E. Jackson III and George M. Hall officiating. Burial will
                          be in Elmhurst Cemetery.
      Survivors include his wife, Reba Dye Franklin; a daughter, Patricia
   Dunn, Elberton; two sons, Thomas W. Franklin Jr. and Merrill Franklin,
    both of Elberton; three sisters, Ola Chastain, Elberton, Ruth Evans,
      Decatur, and Edna Tooke, Commerce; a brother, Charles Franklin,
        Elberton; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

        Ethel Florence Jones Gray, 92, of 3315 Las Palmas, died Sunday,
                              March 14, 1999.
        A native of Walton County, Mrs. Gray was a daughter of the late
        Augustus Weaver Jones and Laura Futch. She was an insurance
                                bookkeeper.
        Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Rutledge City Cemetery.
       Survivors include a son, Clavin George Gray, Houston, Texas; and
                             two grandchildren.

              Rose Lee Johnson, 85, died Monday, March 15, 1999.
       A native of Yazoo City, Miss., Mrs. Johnson was a daughter of the
    late Robert Lee Gordon and Rachel Margaret White Gordon and was the
        widow of Lonnie "Bill" Johnson. She was retired from Henson
       Manufacturing and was a member of Mount Creek Baptist Church.
      Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Arthur Bowick Funeral Home,
     with the Revs. Jimmy Greer and Lonnie Blackmon officiating. Burial
                       will be in Eastview Cemetery.
      Survivors include three daughters, Imogene McCullers and Katherine
   Adcock, both of Monroe, and Lorene Childers Whitley, Bishop; two sons,
   Lonnie Lee Johnson and Jimmy Johnson, both of Monroe; a brother, Cecil

        Lizzie W. Mabry, 85, of 2740 Bond Ave., died Sunday, March 14,
                                   1999.
      A native of Franklin County, Mrs. Mabry was a daughter of the late
     William H. and Lizzie Bond Westmoreland and was the widow of Emory
       Frank Mabry. She was a homemaker, was a member of Canon United
     Methodist Church, and was the last member of her immediate family.
       Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Canon United Methodist
    Church with the Revs. Herman Bowers and Merritt Waters officiating.
     The body will be placed in the church at 3 p.m. Burial will be in
                          Bowers Memorial Garden.
        Survivors include three daughters, Jean King, Bogart, Kathleen
   Phillips, Marietta, and Ann Rudeseal, Royston; two sons, Frank Mabry,
        Ruskin, Fla., and Bruce Mabry, Canon; eight grandchildren; a
                step-grandchild; and 10 great-grandchildren.

       A native of Banks County, Mr. Meeks was a son of the late George
   Wesley Meeks and Beulah Belinda Wade Meeks Stanley. He was the retired
                          owner of Meeks Plumbing.

      Newton Callaway Poss, 71, of 1615 Bartram Trace Road, died Sunday,

        A native of Wilkes County, Mr. Poss was a son of the late Paul
     Callaway and Pauline Sherrer Poss. He was retired from Dixie Wood
     Products, Washington, was a U.S. Navy veteran, and was a member of
              Carters Grove Baptist Church and VFW Post 5899.
       Services will be at 4 p.m. today in Carters Grove Baptist Church
        Cemetery, with the Revs. Kenneth Jones and Thompson Holloman
                                officiating.
      Survivors include his wife, Marion Combs Poss; a daughter, Joyce A.
     Blackburn, Washington; three sons, James N. Poss and Kenneth Poss,
     both of Washington, and Jeff Poss, Rayle; nine grandchildren; and
                         eight great-grandchildren.

           Desma Margaret Roberts, 88, died Monday, March 15, 1999.
        Mrs. Roberts was a daughter of the late George and Laudarie M.
   Kimbrall and widow of Alvin Irvin Roberts. She was retired from Empire
    Manufacturing as a seamstress and was a member of New Liberty United
                             Methodist Church.
       Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Smith Funeral Home, with the
   Revs. William Warnock and C.B. Skelton officiating. Burial will be in
               New Liberty United Methodist Church Cemetery.

             Ethel Meaders Scott, 89, died Monday, March 15, 1999.
      A native of Habersham County, Mrs. Scott was a daughter of the late
      William Webb and Lindey Motes Meaders and was the widow of Dobbs
   Scott. She was a homemaker and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
        Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church,
   with the Revs. Dennis Petty and Ralph Goss officiating. Burial will be
                       in Stephens Memorial Gardens.
      Survivors include a sister, Stella Cook, Rome; four grandchildren;

                             Delora C. Sheuring
                                   Athens
           Delora Cosette Sheuring, 88, died Sunday, March 14, 1999.
        A native of Danville, Ill., Mrs. Sheuring was a daughter of the
     late Cecil and Delora Lawwill. She was married to Dr. John Joseph
   Sheuring, who had a long career in the Diary Science Department at the
    University of Georgia. She was a 1932 graduate of Charleston College
    and taught public school in Danville from 1933 to 1942. In 1949, she
   moved to Athens where she started a career as the first woman Realtor
    in Athens. At the same time, she and her husband, along with Raymond
       Lester and Nick Chivilas, started the Burger Chef franchise in
         Georgia. After the passing of her husband, she founded the
   scholarships in Dairy Science in honor of her late husband. She was a
    member of the First Presbyterian Church of Athens and provided funds
     for the restoration and display of the church bell now located in
    front of the church. She was a longtime member of the Pilot Club of
   Athens and also served on the Board of Directors for the Mental Health
   Association. She loved spending time with her family and many friends,
                       gardening, and playing bridge.
       Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Evergreen Memorial
                 Park with the Rev. Glenn Doak officiating.
       Survivors include a brother, Adrian Lawwill, Danville, Ill.; two
    sons, John Robert Sheuring and his wife, Margaret, Athens, and James
   Bruce Sheuring and his wife, Debbie, Salem, Mass.; grandchildren, John
   David Sheuring and his wife, Michelle, Raleigh, N.C., Debra Jean Potts
    and her husband, David, Danielsville, Michael Wayne Sheuring and his
   wife, Tonya, Gainesville, and April and Autumn Sheuring, Salem, Mass.;
    a stepgranddaughter, Sue Ella Ramey; and great-grandchildren, Katie
      and Elijay Sheuring, Gainesville, and Danielle and Nicole Potts,
                               Danielsvelle.

        A native of Hart County, Mr. Smith was a son of Dewey Smith of
     Elberton and the late Nannie Mae Scott Smith. He was a mechanic at
    Claude Ray Ford, Elberton, and was a member of Faith Baptist Church,
                                  Bowman.
         Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pruitte Funeral Home,
    Royston, with the Rev. Herman Bradley officiating. Burial will be in
                    Fork Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
      Survivors, in addition to his father, include his wife, Sharon Moon
      Smith; two daughters, Tina Jones, Dewy Rose, and Maranda Smith,
    Bowman; three sons, Ferlin Smith, Montvedio, Craig Smith, Vanna, and

     Ruel Thomas and Viola Benson. She was a domestic worker and was a
                   member of Springfield Baptist Church.

     with the Rev. G.L. Avery officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven
                                 Cemetery.
        Survivors include six daughters, Barbie Hulin, Melaine Thomas,

        Wallace "Dolly" Wilhite, 66, of Lake Charles, La., formerly of

      A native of Elbert County, Mr. Wilhite was a son of the late Linton
   H. and Sallie Mae Anderson Wilhite. He was a retired stone polisher in
   the granite industry, was a U.S. Army veteran, and was of the Baptist
                                   faith.
