GARDNER HILL PIONEER DIES NEAR WEEDVILLE
   Our community was saddened last Friday when word was spread of the death of 
Adam Smith, who was born at Eddyville, Armstrong Co., June 2, 1846 and died 
Jan 17, 1930, age 83 years 5 months and 15 days.  He was married to Miss 
Lucinda Schrecengost, of Armstrong County.  He spent the greater part of his 
married life on Gardner Hill.  Mr. Smith was the oldest pioneer of this 
community.  He was a man of sterling quality a good neighbor a true friend, 
and will be missed by the entire community.  There is a vacant chair that can 
never be filled.  He had been road supervisor a good many years, and was re-
elected last November for six years more.  His death was caused by cancer of 
the bladder.  He was a very patient sufferer, was only bed fast about ten days.
   The following children survive, Mrs. Ollie Gardner, of Weedville; Mrs. 
Gertie Keller, Ridgway; Mrs. Stella Pummel, North Bend; Oscar Smith, Los 
Angeles, Cal; Will Smith, Caledonia; Wallace and Clyde, Gardner Hill; Mrs. Ida 
Rothrock and Ollie at home.  Thirty grandchildren, 19 great grand children and 
2 great great grand children, a brother, Henry Smith of this place, a sister, 
Mrs. James Walker, of Smicksburg also survive.  Rev. Levi Benson and Mr. Geer, 
of Penfield had charge of the funeral, burial was made in the Hollobaugh 
Cemetery be side his wife who preceeded him 23 years ago.
   His brother Jake Smith preceded him less than a week ago.  He was 78 years 
old.  He left a widow, two sons Cecil, of Weedville; Willard of this place, 12 
grand children 2 great grand children.  His death was caused by cancer of the 
liver.  Rev. Benson and Mr. Geer had charge of the funeral, burial being in 
the Beck Cemetery.
