STELLE CEMETERY
(ALSO CALLED SHAEFFER-STELLE)
WASHINGTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS

Located in Section 3, Township 15N, Range 30W 
approximately 1 and 1/4 miles east of U. S. Highway 71 
in the vicinity of Fayetteville Municipal Airport (Drake 
Field) and about 1 mile south of the junction of 
Willoughby Road (Ark. Highway 156) and Wilson Hollow 
Road. The cemetery is rectangular about 30 x 50 feet, 
enclosed by a wire fence and on a hill close to West 
Fork River just off Shaeffer Road. The 1980 edition of 
the street map of Fayetteville identifies this family 
graveyard as “Shaeffer Cemetery” but a bronze plate on 
the gatepost is inscribed, “Stelle Graveyard - 1872.” 
The Flashback states that John Stelle was a pioneer 
miller in Washington County. Cemetery read October 31, 
1984 by Bitsy and George Crabtree.
