Charles G. Marrs, a member of the prosperous mercantile firm of Hardy 
& Marrs, of Prairie Grove, Ark., and a native of Washington County, 
was born on the 15th of February, 1855. His father, Andy Marrs, was 
also born in this county, whither his father. Isaac Marrs, had moved, 
at a very early day, from the State of Tennessee. Andy Marrs was 
married, in Washington County, to Winnie Carter, who was born in 
Tennessee, and throughout life followed the occupation of farming. He 
served in the late war, and while visiting at home was taken ill and 
died. Charles G. Marrs' boyhood days were spent on the farm and in 
attending the common schools, and after attaining manhood he began 
farming on his own responsibility, continuing this occupation for 
several years, being also engaged in buying and shipping stock. He 
first began merchandising in Prairie Grove in 1885, and has 
successfully continued up to the present time. He is a charter member 
and director of the Canning Association at Prairie Grove. and, in 
connection with his business, owns and operates a farm near the town. 
November 27, 1873. his marriage to Miss Effie McKeever was celebrated. 
She was born, reared and educated in Washington County, and became the 
mother of seven children: James Andrews, Ellen, Ollie D., Griffin, 
Mack. Edward and an infant daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Marrs are members of 
the Methodist Episcopal Church South, and he is a member of the 
Prairie Grove Masonic lodge.
