is a graduate of the New Orleans College of Pharmacy, class of 1911.

09/05/32        Mrs.James L.Alley opens her piano studio at her residence on S.Rosser Street,
Sept.5. Afterwards the classes will be in the home of Fenner Laughinghouse on Division Street,

09/26/32        Reunion of Hughes Family at Caldwell: The annual family reunion of the Hughes family
was held Sunday when the seven children of Mrs.T.A.Hughes gathered at the home of Jesse Hughes to
pay honor to their mother, who is 79 years of age. Besides the seven children, there were 20 grand
children, and seven great grand children. The children are:Mrs.L.F.White of Forrest City,
Mrs.J.M.Wilson of Forrest City, Mrs.R.B.Dawson of Wynne, Mrs.Jim Brown of Caldwell, Henry Hughes of
Good Hope, and Charley Hughes of Widener.

the crops are short and the cotton will be picked out in another month, if the weather permits. With
our timber gone, roads already built, no factories to give the losing man a job, the Red Cross will

10/04/32        Dr.Frank Pollard, who had been making his home with Mrs.Laura Mallory, his aunt, has
moved to Horn Lake, Miss.

10/06/32        Dr.C.W.Bogart and W.E.Stevens left Wednesday night for Lima, Ohio, and on returning

02/06/33        Construction by the Wisconsin Bridge Co. of the new St.Francis river bridge at
Madison slow due to high water as it is above the coffer dam constructed in the middle of the river.
Pumping had to be done on the east side.

02/06/33        Among proprosals being considered by Gov.Marion Futrell include $400,000 for
Confederate Pension Fund from a bill for para-mutuel betting on horse racing at the track that was
closed in Hot Springs when betting became illegal.

09/02/32        FUSSELL BERRY 1 23 1851 9 2 1932 CITY Berry Fussell, age 81, died this morning,
09/02/32, at his home about a mile north of town, having been ill for several weeks. The funeral
services will be held at the home of his niece, Mrs.Burk Mann, Saturday morning, with
Rev.J.T.Willcoxon conducting the ceremony, interment to follow in the Forrest City cemetery. Pall
bearers will be as follows:Fenner Eldridge, Chas.Havens, Thomas O'Brien, Bruce Smith, V.O.Turner,
and J.A.Gray. The deceased leaves his wife, Mrs.Alice Fussell, one sister, Mrs.E.T.Colt of Oklahoma
City, one niece, Mrs.Burk Mann and three nephews, James Fussell, Ed James and Alston Taylor.
Mr.Fussell was born in Trenton, Tenn., Jan.23,1851, and soon afterwards his parents, James Vaulx
Fussell and Louisa (Alston) Fussell, moved to Memphis where he spent his boyhood. He moved to
St.Louis as a young man and there met, and married Miss Alice McClure in 1891. In 1905 they moved to
Forrest City where he has since been engaged in farming and dairy business. Mr.Fussell was brother

09/02/32        PATTERSON BERNIE LEE UNK 9 1932 ALABAMA Mr.and Mrs.Ray Patterson, who were in
Florence, Alabama, by attendance of a funeral for his brother, Bernie Lee, left there Wednesday for
St.Louis in the interest of the affairs of the deceased.

09/03/32        BURD PRINCE UNK 9 3 1932 UNKNOWN Prince Burd, colored, who was in jail here on the
charge of murder, committed suicide by slashing his throat with a razor this morning, 09/03/32, Burd
was arrested in July after confessing to having shot and killed his wife, after a family quarrel at
Widener. According to Sheriff Campbell, Burd had brooded over the deed and the trial due Sep.12,
that he became desperate, knowing that he would be inevitably be sentenced to life, if not condemned
to the electric chair. Prisoners are allowed use of a razor for fifteen minutes each day for
shaving, and he took advantage of the opportunity.

suddenly yesterday, Sep.5,1932, in Memphis, where he had been living for the past several years.
Funeral services will be held here at the home of Vernon Hodges, this afternoon, with Rev.E.Rawlings
conducting the ceremony, interment will be in Hughes cemetery. The deceased leaves a wife, Mrs.Molly
Sellers; one daughter, Mrs.Norma Hodges; one son, Raymond Sellers, and two brothers, Will Sellers of
Forrest City, and Thad Sellers of Earle. Pall bearers for the funeral are as follows: James Gilliam,

09/15/32        McGINIS ISAIAH UNK 9 15 1932 UNKNOWN Cecil Burrow, white of Palestine, received a
compound fracture of the right leg, and Isaiah McGinnis, negro of Marianna, was killed when a truck
loaded with 50 cotton pickers crashed into another parked truck on the highway near Cody. Burrow was
carried to Memphis for further treatment.

09/16/32        HAYES EVA MRS BOYETT 1 17 1896 9 1932 TEXAS Mrs.Homer E.Hayes, 36, died Thursday
night of last week following an illness of only two days. She was apparently in good health Tuesday
night when she retired, but was found unconscious Wednesday morning, having become ill with uremic
poisoning. She never rallied, and died Thursday night. Eva Boyett was born Jan.17,1896 at Forrest
City, Arkansas, where she was married to Mr.Hayes in 1914 and returned to Deport with him to make
their home. Four children were born to them, three of whom survive, Dorothy, James and Jenny Boyett,
survive. She is survived by her husband, her mother, Mrs.Jenny Boyett of Forrest City, and three
sisters, Mrs.B.L.Butler of Widener, and Mesdammes Claud Cowden and Maud Hoffman of Memphis. Funeral
services were held at the Baptist church Friday, conducted by Rev.Wm.Avery Rogers, the pastor, with
interment in Deport cemetery. She was an active member of the Baptist church and its organizations.

09/20/32        ANDREWS GEORGE A. 12 11 1849 9 18 1932 HAYNES G.A.Andrews, retired farmer died
yesterday morning, Sep.18,1932, at the home of his daughter, Mrs.S.F.Liles in Memphis. He was 82
years of age and had been in bad health for a some time. Funeral services were held in Haynes this
morning where he was born, and farmed in that vicinity until two years ago when he went to live with
his daughter. Surviving him are his daughter, Mrs.Liles, four sons, Clyde S.Andrews of Marianna,
Homer and Frank Andrews of Cleveland, Miss. and G.L.Andrews of Memphis. Per death certificate
widowed, d.9-18-1932 George A. Andrews b.12-11-1849 in North Carolina, father Aldridge Andrews also
N.Carolina. Per C.S.Andrews of Marianna.

09/22/32        BURNS COLEY UNK UNKNOWN Mrs.Fronie Green went on trial in St.Francis Circuit Court
today for the second time on the charge of first degree murder, her victim being Coley Burns, a
brother in law. She was tried in March term of court and the jury was unable to reach a verdict.
Jury includes:Murray Lancaster, J.W.Beazley, W.A.Morrow, J.C.Morris, H.W.Jones, C.E.Vincent, Levy
Smitz, J.F.Hine, Oscar Gandy, A.R.Heath, Hubert Webb, and Walter May. 09/23/32 Fronie convicted of
manslaughter and two years in prison is sentence.

09/24/32        ROBERTSON ETHEL MRS BEARD 10 20 1866 9 23 1932 COGBILL Mrs.Ethel Beard Robertson, 67
years, wife of Judge E.D.Robertson of Marianna and Helena, died at the Baptist Hospital in Memphis
Friday night, Sep.23,1932. Funeral will be held in Wynne this afternoon by Rev.Bryant, pastor Helena
Presbyterian church, and Rev.Davis Wynne Presbyterian church conducting the ceremony. Per death
certificate:b. Gill, Ark. d.9-23-1932 age 65 years 11 months and 3 days. Parents:Abner Beard b.Va.
and Mary Katherine Waits b.Alabama; Wife of E.D.Robertson.

09/26/32        BATES J. E.F. REV UNK 9 1932 ROGERS Rev.J.E.F.Bates, formerly pastor of the
Methodist church, died at Sikeston, Mo., where he was pastor in the church there, and was buried in
Rogers Saturday morning.

09/26/32        MYERS WILL R. MRS 1884 9 25 1932 HUGHES Coroner Mack Sulcer is this afternoon
holding an inquest over the body of Mrs.Will Myers, who it was reported, ended her life by taking
strychnine yesterday, Sep.25,1932, at her home about five miles north of Forrest City. The death was
not reported to Coroner Sulcer, yesterday, and arrangements had been made for funeral this
afternoon, without an inquest. Funeral services for Mrs.W.R.Myers, 48, years, who ended her life on
Sunday morning, were held Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev.J.C.Fleshman of the Christian church,
with burial in Hughes cemetery. Surviving the deceased are her husband, her father, J.H.Graham of
Corinth, Miss.; children, Euart, Hollis, Eugenie, and Katherine; sisters, Mrs.Carl Bennett of
Corinth, Miss. and Mrs.Imo Castleberry of Chicago

09/30/32        BASS LUCY MRS SEXTON UNK 9 29 1932 UNKNOWN Mrs.J.F.Bass died Thursday afternoon,
Sep.29,1932, at her home in Wynne after an illness only since Monday. Mrs.Bass was a former resident
of this city, having moved to Wynne about eight years ago. Funeral services were held this afternoon
from the Baptist church in Wynne, conducted by pastor Rev.Owen. Surviving the deceased are her
husband, three sons, Hubert of Newport, Will and Paul of Wynne; three daughters, Mrs.Geo.Barry of
this city, Misses Nell and Mamie of Wynne.

10/01/32        HINTON LITA CAROLYN MISS 10 7 1918 9 30 1932 UNKNOWN Miss LIta Carolyn Hinton, age
14 years, died Friday night at the Baptist hospital in Memphis. Deceased was the daughter of Mr.and
Mrs.R.E.Hinton of Wynne, formerly of this city, and the niece of Mrs.W.M.Brown. Funeral services

Christian Science service, with Rev.W.T.Willcoxon of the Methodist church assisting. The deceased,
who had been ill for about 16 months, is survived by his wife, Ann Cooley Young, and one daughter,
Frances, of Warren, Ohio. Pall bearers will be officials and employees of the Maury-Cole Co. of
Memphis, where Mr.Young was an employee for a number of years. The deceased had many friends in
Forrest City and Eastern Arkansas, made during his time as salesman for Canova Products.

28, died this morning at the home of her mother, Mrs.S.Blackmor, in this city. Deceased had been ill
for several months, and had been at the Baptist hospital in Memphis for several weeks until her
return here last Friday, when it was believed that the end was very near. Deceased was born in
Brockway, Pa., on July 2,1904, and came to this city with her parents when a mere child. Until her
illness a few months ago she had been making her home in Little Rock, where her husband, John
C.Crook is employed, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of that city. She is survived by
her mother, Mrs.S.Blackmor; two brothers, Earl and George, and one sister. Leona; all of this city,
and her husband of Little Rock. Funeral services will be held from the residence, and will be
conducted by Rev.E.Rawlings, assisted by Rev.W.T.Willcoxon. Pall bearers as
follows:Active:J.H.Duncan, Norman Humphrey, Virgil Vandiver, Lee Pankey, James Milton, F.M.Causey.

Feb. 2, 1933 St. Francis County Arkansas, USA Jim Halbert was born to William Halbert and Mary E.
Ewing Halbert in March of 1862 in Tennessee. I think he was born in Marshall County, but I have no
proof. Jim married Lillian Katherine Harden, his second cousin, on Christmas Eve of 1889 in
Lewisburg, Marshall County, TN. This union produced a daughter, Tommye Lenice (1892-1977) Mary Sue
(1894-?), and William Paul(1898-1977). They left Tennessee in a covered wagon in about 1893 on a
journey to Oklahoma, where other brothers and sisters had gone. They were stranded in Eastern
Arkansas due to bad cold weather and sick children. This is where Mary Sue died. They settled in
Caldwell, Arkansas and Jim set up a blacksmith shop and grist mill to support his family. His wife,
Lillian Katherine Halbert is buried in Forrest Park Cemetery, Created by: Susie G. Stephens

of Mrs.G.V.McCleskey of Forrest City, prominent and life long resident of this county, died at his
home in the Bounds Community, 10 miles west of here, after an illness of more than two years. His
father, Jim Bounds came here before the Indians moved away, and was married to Miss Jane Bailey,
member of another pioneer family. A.J.Bounds was one of a large family, there being one daughter and
ten sons, all of whom are dead except A.G.Bounds, who lives in the Bounds Community. Mr.Bounds was
married to Miss Madie Terry about 45 years ago, and 14 children were born, 13 still living. Besides
his widow, six sons, Cecil, Ernest, Hu..., Guy, Fred, and Roger Bounds; seven daughters, Mrs.Shuford
of Memphis, Mrs.G.V.McCleskey of Forrest City, Mrs.Jackson Ross of Minter City, Mrs.Walter Seal of
Big Creek, Mrs.Leslie Blaylock, Mrs.Carl Nelson, of Memphis,and Miss Kathleen Bounds. Funeral
services by Rev.T.L.Oakes.
