When Erwin Baker Ragland, prominent Forrest City church leader and businessman,
died on Nov. 13, 1952, at the age of 66, his death is deeply mourned by all who
knew him. A member of the Graham Memorial Presbyterian church, he had worked
many years in every phase of church, and religious activity in the city. He
helped organize chapels at Gill, Good Hope, and Harmony, one of which is named
for his memory. He was a onetime member of the Young Business Men's Club,
Chairman of the United Charities during the depression, Chairman of the American
Red Cross, and at the time of hsi death was Chairman of Child Welfare of St.
Francis County chapter. Born at Sylvania, Ark., he moved to Des Arc as a young
man, where he was in the mercantile business. He married Miss Louise Patton in
1912. Moving to Forrest City in 1923. He operated the Fair Store here until
1931. Since then he has sold insurance.
