[The following is the obituary of my mother's death, published in the
Southwest Times Record in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Sebastian County.  I am 
the original author of this obituary.  This appeared in the obits on
April 2, 1999.]
 
VIRGINIA MARIE McGOVERAN, 93 of Fort Smith died Tuesday, March 30, 1999
in Fort Smith.  She was a homemaker, member of Victory Temple Assembly
of God Church, Ladies Missionary Council, Primetimers, nursing home
ministry and member of the church choir.  In the 1920's she traveled
with Reverend and Mrs. C.L. McClain in Evangelistic Ministry for the
Pentecostal movement.  She loved to sing and play the piano and guitar.
 
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel at Fort
Smith with burial at Oak Cemetery in Fort Smith.  
 
She is preceded in death by husbands, Earl Goodnight, Ernest Rickard,
Ted Owen Parsons and Ornan K. "Mac:" McGoveran; and her parents Mastin 
and Nora Eslinger.
 
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn S. Smedley and husband, John
and Myrna R. Wells and husband , Bob, all of Fort Smith; one
stepdaughter, Florence McGoveran Lindale and husband, Elmer;  three
sisters, Bea Clegg of Van Buren, Iola Whitmer of Camden and Irene
Daniels of Fort Smith;  four grandchildren, Terry Settle, Debra
Calhoun, Linda Dickson, all of Fort Smith and Richard Smedley of Broken
Arrow, Okla;  three stepgrandchildren, Donna Fleck, Phillip and Steven 
Bull;  four great--grandchildren, Christopher and Jason Stuart;  Daniel
Settle and Misty Benson;  11 stepgreat-grandchildren, Kevin and Jeremy
Settle, Cassie Elwonger, Abby, Gregory, Rachelle and McKenzie Bull,
Armando Calhoun,  Dianna, Victoria and Jacqueline Fleck.
