JACK JASON REMER
	Danville--Funeral services for Jack Jason Remer, 68, of
Danville were held Tuesday, July 2, 2002 at 2 pm at Egypt Freewill
Baptist Church. Burial followed at Egypt Cemetery at Blue Ball
under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron.
	Mr. Remer died Saturday, June 29, 2002 at his home in Danville.
He was a farmer, rancher and cabinet builder, member of Egypt Free
Will Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and adult Sunday
School teacher. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was preceded
in death by his father, Donald Remer and a son, Adam Remer.
	Survivors include his wife, Joan; two sons, Jason Remer of
Fairfax, Virginia and Aaron Remer of Russellville; his mother, Millie
Remer of Danville; two sisters, Donna Jane Stewart of Kansas City,
Missouri and Grethen Gay of Olatha, Kansas; and twenty grandchildren.
	Pallbearers were Glenda Vaughn, Becky Wilkins, Patricia
Millard, Lisa Fowler, Sheila Millard and Shell Solley.
	Honorary pallbearers were Robert Leeper, Chuck Pickett, Roy
Wilkins, Lonnie Apple, Shane Millard, Jackie Allen, Terry Solley

	Harvey--Waleta Mae Foster, age 84, of Harvey, Arkansas 
passed away Thursday, June 27 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was born
March 19, 1918 in Lincoln Township, Adams County, Wisconsin to Etta
and Walter Jost. She was married to Marion Foster on August 14, 1943
and was a retired elementary school teacher.
	Memorial services for Mrs. Foster were held at 10:00 am on
Monday, July 1 at Gravelly United Methodist Church with Royce Savage
and David Williams officiating.
	Mrs. Foster is survived by her husband, Marion and one son 
Glen of Harvey, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her son, Freeman.

	Paris--Rosary for Virginia Ann Besier, 72, of Paris was at 
7 pm, Monday, July 1, 2002 at Murry Funeral Home Chapel in Paris.
Mass was at 10 am, Tuesday, July 2, 2002 at St. Anthony's Catholic
Church in Ratcliff with burial at St. Anthony's Cemetery in
Caulksville under the direction of Murry Funeral Home of Paris.
	Mrs. Besier died Saturday, Jun 29, 2002 in a local hospital.
She was of the Catholic faith. She was preceded in death by her
husband, James L. Helton; an infant son, Richard H. Helton; her
parents, William and Atha Kinney; four brothers, Robert Kinney,
Raymond Kinney, Douglas Kinney and Budda Kinney; and two sisters,
Mary Honea and Imogene Burrios.
	Survivors include her husband, Elton W. Besier of Paris;
three daughters, Atha Stinnett and Katrina Stengel both of Ratcliff
and Cindy Thurman of Ozark; two sons, James Helton of Paris and
Elton Besier, Jr. of Ozark; three sisters, Laura Stokes of Waldron,
Viola Grohe of Overton, Texas and Melvonia Landry of Elk City,
Oklahoma; thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.
	Pallbearers were Frank Thurman, Joe Thurman, James Helton, Jr.,
Joey Kinney, Eugene Corley and Billy Wilkins.

ROBERT ORMAN HUSTON
	Waldron--Robert Orman Huston, 80, of Waldron died Friday,
June 28, 2002 at the Oklahoma Veterans Center in Talihina. He was
a retired operating engineer and a decorated veteran of World War
II.
	Services were at 2 pm Monday, July 1, 2002 at the First
United Methodist Church in Waldron with burial at Pilot Prairie
Cemetery.
	He was born January 9, 1922 in Little Rock, Arkansas and
attended Little Rock High School. He served in the North African
and European Campaigns in World War II. He built microwave and
communications towers and systems worldwide.
	He is survived by his wife, Barbara Hines Huston of
Waldron; a daughter, Susan Huston Svacina of Arlington, Texas; a
son, Robert James Huston of Van Buren; a brother, Patrick Huston
of Newnan, Georgia; and two grandchildren, Natalie Svacina and
Stephen Svacina.
	Pallbearers were Curtis Billings, Glen Dale Sparks, Jerry
Parker, Donnie Jones, Charlie Scott, Don Frost, Harold Simpson
and Randy Barnett.
	Arrangements were under the direction of Martin Funeral

	She is survived by two daughters, Barlene Joyce Pendleton
of Gig Harbor, Washington and Ina Rosenthal of Waldron; and one
son, Ewing Lee Bettles of Livermore, California.

	Waldron--Funeral services for Odell Martindale, 70, of
Waldron were held Saturday, July 6 at 2 pm at Martin Funeral

	Mr. Martindale died Thursday, July 4, 2002 in a Waldron
hospital. He was retired from the Forest Service and was of the
Pentecostal faith.
	Survivors include his wife, Ledora; a daughter, Dana
Drury of Poteau; three step-daughters; a son, James Martindale
of Wister, Oklahoma; four step-sons; two sisters, Godean Cowan
of California and Cecilia Pierce of Texas; a brother, Eugene
Martindale of McAlester, Oklahoma; and a granddaughter, Jessica
Drury.

A.D. HILL, JR.
	Alamogordo, NM--A.D. Hill, Jr., 77, loving and devoted
husband, father and grandfather passed away July 1, 2002.
	He was born in Scott County, the son of the late A.D.
and Vesta Young Hill. After graduation from Waldron High School
in 1942, he proudly served his country during World War II on
a submarine in the Pacific.
	Later he joined the Army and left the military with the
rank of warrant officer. He retired in 1976 as chief of a missile
station at White Sands Missile Range, NM.
	Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Atha Lee Hill;
his daughter, Susan Hill of Snohomish, WA; sons and daughters-in-
law, Gregory Hill and Lenore of Alamagordo, NM; Larry Hill and
Karen of Albuquerque, NM; sister Zella H. Strickland of Wendell,
NC; and one grandson.
	A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 13 at
2:00 p.m. at the Lavaca Assembly of God Church. His ashes will
be buried in the Lee family cemetery in Lavaca.

	Waldron--Funeral services for Trilba Mae Scott, 87, of
Waldron were held Thursday, July 11, 2002 at Needmore Assembly
of God Church. Burial followed at Buffalo Cemetery at Boles under

	Mrs. Scott died Monday, July 8, 2002 at the Waldron
Nursing Home. She was a homemaker and a member of the Needmore
Assembly of God Church. She was also a member of the Home
Extension Club. She was the widow of J.W. Scott and was preceded
in death by a son, Sherman Scott and a daughter, Betty Mae Scott.
	Survivors include four sons, Eugene Scott of Bloomer,
Harold Scott of Boles, C.L. Scott of Greenwood and Charles Scott
of Dayton; a sister, Myrtle Garner of Barling; thirteen grand-
children; twenty-five great grandchildren and nine great-great
grandchildren.

hospital. He was born August 31, 1948 in Piermont, New York. He
served in the Korean War, receiving the Purple Heart. He attended

his wife, Ruth Blythe.

JOYCE WILLIAMS
	Joyce Ann Jeffery Williams of Mansfield, Arkansas passed
away July 17th at Sparks Medical Center, Ft. Smith, after a long
courageous battle with cancer.
	She was born April 26, 1952. She was a former employee of
the U.S. Census Bureau, U.S. Forest Service and Bank of Waldron.
She was a member of the Waldron Assembly of God Church. She was a
Waldron High School graduate and attended Arkansas Tech University.
	Joyce loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed.
She home schooled her daughters for several years. She had a 
natural ability for the arts and loved to pencil sketch lovely
outdoor scenes and beautiful animals.
	Joyce is survived by her husband of nearly 25 years, Arnold,
daughters of the home, Julie Nicole and Linda Michelle. Mother 
Elgie Tinder Jeffery. Her brothers Charles Jeffery and James
Jeffery of Waldron. Also, her sisters, Dorothy Owens of Waldron
and Norma Jeffery Carnahan of Little Rock. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie
Williams, her father-in-law and mother-in-law and several nieces
and nephews.
	Her father, Arthur E. (Slim) Jeffery and a sister, Shirley
Ann Jeffery, preceded her in death.
	Funeral services were held at 10:00 am on Friday, July 19,
2002 at Waldron Assembly of God Church, with Rev. Ray Reynolds 
and Rev. Sam Waganer officiating. Interment will be at the
Freedom Cemetery under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of
Waldron.
	Pallbearers were Joel Goddard, Matt McCafferty, Mike
Owens, Jimmy Jeffery, Phillip Holland and Bobby Owens.

communications operator for the U.S. Army, former member of
the V.F.W. and was of the Mennonite faith.

2002 at the Salem Cemetery at Plainview, Arkansas under the

	He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Ann and

	Texas--Services for Alice Bentley Beasley, 83, of Lufkin,
Texas were held Saturday, July 20, 2002 in the Gipson-Metcalf
Funeral Home Chapel. Randy Harshbarger and Harold Hancock 
officiated. Graveside services were held at 11 am, Monday, July 22,
2002 at the Pilot Prairie Cemetery near Waldron.
	Mrs. Beasley was born August 7, 1918 in Cauthron, the
daughter of Cora Bell Bethel Bentley and Scott Arthur Bentley. 
She died Thursday, July 18, 2002 at her residence.
	Mrs. Beasley was a retired supervisor for the Lufkin 
State School where she had been employed for more than 15 years.
She was a member of the Fourth and Groesbeck Church of Christ and
had resided in Lufkin for 49 years.
	Survivors include her daughter, Ruth Manning of Dallas;
sons and daughters-in-law, James A. and Pam Beasley of Richmond,
Virginia, and Dr. R. Scott and Paul Beasley of Nacogdoches; 
grandsons, Jason Beasley of Richmond, Virginia and Cory Beasley
of Nacogdoches; granddaughters, Teri Padgett and Pamela Manning
both of Dallas, Kathy Donahoe of Littleton, Colorado and Shannon
Penn of McKinney; five great grandchildren and a number of nieces,
nephews and other relatives.
	Mrs. Beasley was preceded in death by her husband, Paul
Park Beasley.

DENNIS GRADY BEATY
	Dennis Grady Beaty of Mena, Arkansas, formerly of Black
Fork, Arkansas, died Saturday, July 27, 2002 in the Mena Medical
Center.
	He was born April 11, 1943 in Pocahontas, Arkansas to the
late Grady Beaty and Nedra Denniston Beaty, his age being 59 years,
2 months and 16 days. He was united in marriage on September 15,
1966 in Poteau, Oklahoma to Jackie Benson. He was a driller in the
oil fields, was of the Baptist faith and attended Waldron High
School where he played football.
	He is survived by his wife, Jackie Beaty of Mena, Arkansas;
three sons, Roger Dale and hs wife Reena Beaty of Bossier City,
Louisiana, Dennis DeWayne and his wife Lisa Beaty of Eureka,
California, and Weldon Frank and his wife Kathy Beaty of Mena,
Arkansas; three daughters, Jacqueline Denise and her husband, Sid 
Burden of Mena, Arkansas, Shannon Nicole and her husband Brian
Kamm of Mena, Arkansas and Nedra Louise Beaty of Mena, Arkansas;
his mother, Nedra Beaty of Mena, Arkansas; two sisters, Marilyn
Hooks of Mena, Arkansas and Jean Watkins of Allens, Tennessee;
21 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
	He was preceded in death by his father, a son, Billy Don
Beaty and a daughter, Donna Lavone Beaty.

Jerrold Musgrove officiating. Interment will follow in the

	Frances L. Bowlin, 88, of Fort Smith, Arkansas died Sunday,
July 28, 2002 in Parks, Arkansas. Mrs. Bowlin passed away at the

homemaker, and a loving aunt to all of her nieces and nephews. She
was a member of the Assembly of God Church, Ladies Auxiliary and
Fort Smith Eagles Lodge. She was the widow of Chester Bowlin.

	Mrs. Gilbreath was preceded in death by her husband, her
parents; three brothers and four sisters.

	Rosa Ellen Gist, age 102, of Mena, passed away Wednesday,
August 7, 2002 in Mena.
	She was born April 15, 1900 in Boles, Arkansas to the late
Francis M. Gibson and the late Mary Jane Sumpter. She was united in
marriage to Lewis Gist.
	Mrs. Gist lived in Scott County in the Y-City and Boles area
for 50 years and lived in Mena for 52 years. She was a member of the
Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Mena. Mrs. Gist was a loving
homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother.
	She is survived by one daughter, Ruby Stovall of Mena, Arkansas;
one grandson, Daryl Cole of Mena, Arkansas; and numerous nieces and
nephews.
	She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sons,
William Lanvie Gist and Van Don Gist, her sisters Sada Hall, Frona
Keener, and Oma Turner, and her brother Willie Gibson.
	Graveside services were Saturday, August 10, 2002, at 10:00

PEGGY LORRAINE MAYLEN
	Peggy Lorraine Maylen of Wewoka, OK was born September 7, 1942
in Pharoah, Oklahoma and left this earth on August 8, 2002.
	One of eleven children born to Arthur "Ott" and Imogene 
(DeArmond) Sallee, Peggy was known for her kind heart and easy
smile. On July 2, 1959 Peggy married William Charles Maylen at
Hilltop Presbyterian Church in Wewoka. Peggy enjoyed reading, old
movies and spending time with her family. None of the Sallee or
Maylen family gatherings were complete until Peg poured up her
famous "Wewoka Tea." Over the years she worked as a nurse's aide
at Wewoka Municipal Hospital; a waitress at Morgan's Mug; and in
the cutting room at Big Yank and Custom Size. Most recently she
was employed at Elmwood Manor Nursing Home.
	She is survived by her husband, Charles, of the home; 3
sons and their wives, Keith and April Maylen, Shawnee, DeWayne
and Becky Maylen, Holdenville, and Danny and Valerie Maylen,
Wetumka; 1 daughter, DeAnna Maylen of the home; 3 brothers, Kenneth
Sallee, Wewoka; Bill Sallee, Waldron, Arkansas, and David Sallee,
Holts Summit, Missouri; 7 sisters, Shirley Williams and Lucy Sallee,
Waldron, Arkansas, JoAnn Dowdy, Stroud, Pat Johnson and Karla
Carroll, Drumright, Glenda Condict, Cromwell, and Terry Harrell,
Canute. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, one great
granddaughter, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host
of friends.
	She was preceded in death by her parents, Ott and Imogene
Sallee and one infant son.

2002, at Stout-Phillips Chapel with Reverend Larry Chesser

SISTER MARY LUCINA EDSTROM
	Sister Mary Lucina Edstrom, RSM, age 96, of Barling, Arkansas
died September 7, 2002 in Barling, Arkansas. She was born on
October 13, 1905 in St. John's, Newfoundland and was baptized
Bridget Theresa Edstrom, on October 16, 1905. She entered the
Sisters of Mercy at Mount St. Mary's Convent in Little Rock,
AR, September 15, 1927, and made her first vows August 15, 1931.
	She received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Incarnate
Word College in San Antonio, TX. She taught for 42 years in 
various schools in Arkansas from 1928 to 1974. From 1974 to 1991
she did Pastoral Care ministry at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center
and retired at McAuley Convent in 1995.
	Rosary was at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday the 10th of September at
McAuley Convent Chapel. Funeral service was at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday,
September 10, 2002 at McAuley Convent Chapel in Barling, AR with
burial at Calvary Cemetery in Fort Smith, AR under the direction
of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
	She is survived by three nieces, all of St. John's, 
Newfoundland.

LEO G. WILLIAMS
	Greenwood--Funeral services for Leo G. Williams, 82, of Greenwood
were held Monday, Septmber 16, 2002 at 10 am at McConnell Funeral Home
Chapel in Greenwood. Burial followed at Old Jenny Lind Cemetery at Jenny
Lind under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
	Mr. Williams died Wednesday, September 11, 2002 at his home
in Greenwood. He was an Army veteran of WWII, was retired from Baldor
and was a member at Greenwood First Baptist Church.
	Survivors include his wife, Alta of the home; two daughters,
Donna Morris of Fort Smith and Saundra Coble of Ozark; five sons,
Bob Williams of Kansas City, Missouri, Jerry Don Williams of Waldron,
Joe Williams and Sam Williams both of Greenwood and Bill Booth of
Kansas City, Missouri; four sisters, Bertha Immel of Lopaco, California,
Dovie Stephens of Weatherford, Texas, Ollie Mae Srader ofPetersburg,
Texas and Faye Taylor of Lubbock, Texas; a brother, Weldon Williams
of Ralls, Texas; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-three great grand-
children.
	Pallbearers were Mark Williams, Roy Williams, Phillip Williams,
Rick Powell, Chris White and Roy Hicks.

MINNIE RUTH TRUMBLE
	Boles--Funeral services for Minnie Ruth Trumble, 92, of Boles were
held Friday, September 13, 2002 at 2 pm at Boles Free Will Baptist Church.
Burial followed at Chant Cemetery at Y-City under the direction of Martin
Funeral Home of Waldron.
	Mrs. Trumble died Wednesday, September 11, 2002 at a Waldron
nursing home. She was a retired furniture factory worker and of the Baptist
faith.
	Mrs. Trumble was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie
Tumble; a son, Leroy Trumble and three grandchildren, Lonnie Trumble,
Saundra Bruton and Steven Rose.
	Survivors include two daughters, Doris and husband Basil 
Bruton of Boles and Peggy and husband Dub Rose of Boles; a daughter-
in-law, Mavis Trumble of Moore, Oklahoma; three sons, TJ and wife Dixie
Trumble of Portage, Indiana, Bob and wife Joann Trumble of Mt. Home and
Jim Trumble of Anchorage, Alaska; thirteen grandchildren, Tom Trumble,
Brenda Trumble, Barbara Cowsert, Chuck Trumble, Terry Trumble, Mike
Trumble, Russell Trumble, Karem Smith, Ron Bruton, Mark Trumble, Jason
Trumble, Tony Rose and Sheila Jones; twenty-three great grandchildren
and seven great-great grandchildren.
	Pallbearers were Ron Bruton, Tony Rose, Mike Trumble, Russell
Trumble, Mark Trumble and Tom Trumble.

	Mansfield--Funeral services for Jeffrey Scott Gish, infant son of
Christopher Gish and Katherine Nicole Callaway were held Tuesday, 
September 17, 2002 at 10 am at Woodlawn Memorial Chapel in Fort Smith.
Burial followed at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Fentress
Mortuary of Fort Smith.
	Jeffrey died Thursday, September 12, 2002 in Fort Smith.
	In addition to his parents he is survived by his paternal
grandparents, Elaine Williams of Mansfield and David and Sherry Gish
of Midland; his maternal grandparents, Mark Oliver of Waldron and
Karen Gordon of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; two sisters, April Calloway
and Kelsie Gish both of Waldron; and tw brothers, David Gish and
Thomas Gish both of Mansfield.

	Violet Adair Dupont, 78, of Wagoner, Oklahoma died Wednesday,
September 11, 2002 in a Wagoner nursing home. She was a homemaker,
widow of Louie Adair, and of the Pentecostal faith.
	Graveside service was at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 14 at
Helton Cemetery near Booneville, Arkansas with burial under the direction
of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron.
	She is survived by one daughter, Lillie Scoggin of Van Buren,
AR; five sons, Johnny Adair and Doyle Adair both of Wagoner, OK,
Jimmy Adair and Alonzo Adair both of Alma, AR, and Oscar Adair of
Waldron, AR; four sisters, Irene Tedder of Panama, OK, Wilma Prince
of Howe, OK, Lois Medley of Poteau, OK and Gladys Fessler of Illinois;

	Joan Margaret Kay, 68, of New Blaine, Arkansas died Saturday,
September 14, 2002 in Greenwood, Arkansas. She was a retired registered
nurse at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center.

	She is survived by her husband, James Kay of the home; three

MARGIE MAE MOTEL
	Margie Mae Motel of Modesto, CA died September 14, 2002. Loving
mother of Wilda Hyer and Steven Motel of Ceres, Carol Raymond of 
Waterford, Kathlean Beam and Terry Motel of Modesto. Sister of Robert 
Terry (and sister-in-law Derelene) of Tulloch Lake and Nancy Nuki of
Mi Wuk Village. She was loving grandmother of Warren Hyer, Stan Hyer,
Jeff Raymond, Keri Johnson, Anthony Taylor, Vincent Taylor, Beth Geck
and Karen Almadiz.
	She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren. Margie was pre-
deceased by her granddaughter, Kelly Raymond.
	At age 85, a native of Waldron, Arkansas, Mrs. Motel worked 
for 36 years for the State of California, her last position was Nursing 
Coordinator for Stockton State Hospital. She worked as Regional 
Director of the California State Employees Association. She was a
member of Stanislaus Genealogy Society and Scott County Arkansas
Genealogy Society.
	Services Wednesday, September 18, 11:00 a.m. at Franklin &
Downs Colonial Chapel, Modesto, CA. Friends who wish may make

INEZ GALLIMORE
	Inez Levada Gallimore, 72, of Mansfield, Arkansas died 
Saturday, September 21, 2002 in a Ft. Smith hospital. She was a
homemaker, restaurant owner & cook. She was preceded in death by
her father, Charlie Metcalf, a brother, Claude Metcalf, and a
grandson, William Alan White.
	Funeral services were held at 11:00 am Tuesday, September
24 at Witcherville, Arkansas with burial at Freedom Cemetery 
near Waldron, Arkansas under the direction of Martin Funeral
Home of Mansfield, Arkansas.
	She is survived by her husband, John Gallimore; three
daughters, Laverne White of Huffman, Texas, Glenna Taylor
of Witcherville, Arkansas, Kathy Price of Vian, Oklahoma; two
sons, Verman Gallimore of Mansfield, Arkansas, Mike Gallimore
of Witcherville, Arkansas; mother, Lessie McBride of Fort Smith,

VIVIAN RICE
	Vivian O. Rice, age 61 of Austin, Texas formerly of
Waldron, Arkansas passed away Thursday, September 19 in
Austin. She was born December 26, 1940 in Waldron to the
late Winston and Thelma Rice. Vivian was a paralegal for
Advocacy Inc. and a Methodist. Funeral services were held
at 10 am Monday, September 23 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel
with Rev. Fred Mollenhauer officiating. Interment was held
at Birdsview Cemetery near Waldron under the direction of
Martin Funeral Home of Waldron. Serving as pallbearers were
Larry Charles Rice, Ralph Rice, Ronnie Plummer, Robert Hill,
Larry Brigance and Reggie Owens.
	Vivian is survived by one sister, Audean Taff of
Springfield, Oregon, two brothers, Winston V. Rice of 
Waldron and Kelly J. Rice of Springfield, Oregon. She was
preceded in death by one brother, Gerald Rice. Other survivors
include seven nieces, six nephews, several cousins and a 
host of friends.

VIRGINIA SANDERS
	Virginia Sanders, age 79, of Idabel, Oklahoma, passed
away Thursday, September 19, 2002 in Idabel.
	She was born April 18, 1923 in Nella, Arkansas, to the
late Milton Andrew Mills and the late Nancy Vashtie Richmond
Mills. She was united in marriage to Warren Sanders for 61
years. Mrs. Sanders was a seamstress and was an electronics
assembler at Honeywell in California. She was a member of
the Assembly of God Church.
	Survivors include her husband, Warren Sanders of 
Idabel, Oklahoma; one son, Daniel W. Sanders of Horatio,
Arkansas; two daughters, Kathleen Barnard of Alamogordo,
New Mexico and Barbara Barnes of Olathe, Colorado; nine
grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and four great-great
grandchildren.
	She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers
and sisters.
	Funeral services were Tuesday, September 24, 2002 at 
10:00 a.m. at the Shiloh Baptist Church in Nella, Arkansas.
Interment followed in the Shiloh Cemetery under the direction
of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
