MILDRED NEWLIN
	Mildred Rudell Newlin was born January 2, 1924 near Elida, New
Mexico and died June 26, 2001 at Waldron, Arkansas.
	She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Willard Warren
Newlin of Waldron; their son, Daniel Allen Newlin and wife, Mary Lou;
also one grandson, Japheth Reid Newlin, all of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a
brother, Wesley Eugene Messick and a sister, Dorothy Sue Coppock, also
residents in Waldron. There are two nieces, Joann Studdert of Carrollton,
Texas and Vicki Lynn Burr of Beaumont, Texas.
	The Newlins were married September 9, 1944 in Austin, Texas.
Rudell was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in the early 1940's
and spent over half a century sharing with others the wonderful truths
about God's kingdom promises that she found recorded in His Word, the Bible.
	The Newlins moved to Waldron in 1965 and over the years owned
several businesses here in Waldron. First, they built and operated the
"Downtown Speed Wash." After this Mr. Newlin became a real estate agent
and Mrs. Newlin ran the "Jean Shop." In more recent years they have owned
and managed the "Frontier Village and Trailer Park" on North Main Street.
	Mrs. Newlin was loved and respected by many and will be missed.
	Funeral services were held at 9 am Thursday, June 28, 2001 in the
Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah's Witnesses. Interment was at Chant Cemetery
in Y-City, Arkansas under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home.
	Pallbearers were: Jarrell Ward, Douglas White, Dale Bates, Kenneth
Brewery, Charles Maxwell and Marvin Ward.

	Thomas Clayborn Adams, Jr., 54, of Waldron died June 30, 2001
in a Fort Smith hospital. He was a Lutheran and an employee of Tyson
Foods.
	Funeral services were held at 10 am Monday, July 2, 2001 at the
Martin Funeral Home Chapel.
	He is survived by his wife, Mary of the home; one son, Eric of
Waldron; and one sister, Judy Odam of Virginia.

Grove Baptist Church.

Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Waldron with burial at Birdsview Cemetery
in Waldron.
	She is survived by her husband Montaing of the home; one son, 
Monty of Waldron; two sisters, Alla Doyel and Sharon Goodner both of
Waldron; three brothers, Delmer Langston of Blachard, Idaho, Tommy Langston
of Oklahoma City, and B.J. Langston of Waldron; one grandson and his wife,
Eric and Kim Meredith of Redfield, Arkansas and one granddaughter, Nikki
Meredith of Redfield, Arkansas.

	She is survived by four daughters, Lela Martin of Parks, Ernestine

	Ruth Presson, 78, of Huntington died Monday, July 9, 2001 in a
Fort Smith nursing home. She was a retired restaurant owner and operator.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Freeman Presson, one son, Wendell
and one grandson, Richard.
	Funeral services were held at 2 pm Thursday, July 12, 2001 at the
McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood, Arkansas with burial at 
Huntington City Cemetery.
	She is survived by four sons, Charles of Mansfield, Robert of
Greenwood, Jerry of Huntington and Larry of Fort Smith; four brothers, Bill
Richmond and James Richmond both of Huntington, Jack Richmond of Bates, and
Bob Richmond of Fort Smith; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

JEWELL BROWN
	Jewell Brown entered into rest July 14, 2001 at the local hospital.
She was born June 2, 1913 to the late Tom and Mary Elizabeth Cheek. Jewell
grew up in the Waldron area. She accepted the Lord as her personal Savior
and became a member of Haw Creek Baptist Church at the age of 13 where she
has remained a member for 75 years.
	July 4th, 1931 she married Mack Brown. Into this union there were
four children. Three sons and one daughter. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Mack, of 58 years, one grandson, Jeffrey Coldren, and one great
grandson, Jeffrey Derek Coldren. She is survived by three sons, Tommy and
Bob Brown of Waldron and Charles Brown of Greenwood, and one daughter, 
Elizabeth Coldren of Waldron. Six grandsons: Gregg Brown of Springdale,
Arkansas, Michael Brown of Bentonville, Arkansas, Bobby Brown of Muskogee,
Oklahoma, keith Brown of Beebe, Arkansas, Jerry Coldren of Hanford, California,
and Steven Coldren of Tulare, California. Two granddaughters, Lynn Metcalf
of Waldron and Lynn Hunnicutt of Gravelly, Arkansas. Three step-children, 
Gene Ray and Keith Dedmon of Waldron and Loretta Jordan of Siloam Springs,
Arkansas. Sixteen great grandchildren, nine step-great grandchildren and one
great-great granddaughter. Two brothers, Floyd Cheek of Sanger, California
and Virgil (Pete) Cheek of Waldron, one sister, Opal Sparks of Waldron. Three
nephews, Glen Dale Sparks, Gerald Sparks and David Cheek of Waldron and one
niece, Diane Rehrman of Fresno, California.
	Her grandsons had the honor of serving as her pallbearers, and her
great grandsons served as honorary pallbearers.
	Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 17, 2001 at 10 am at Haw
Creek Baptist Church in Waldron. Interment will be at Pearson Cemetery by
the Haw Creek Baptist Church.

FAY BEATY
	Graveside services were held Fay Beaty at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday,
July 12th at Green Wood Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Rough & Ready Hwy. in
Grass Valley, California. He passed away Monday morning, July 9, 2001. He
was 72 years old.
	He was born in Arkansas on Dec. 12, 1928 to Atha & Ida Beaty. He
married Anna Jett, July 17th, 1950 in Waldron, Arkansas. They moved to
California where he worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was active in
the California Houndsmen for Conservation and North Central Houndsmen. He
enjoyed bear hunting, fishing and being outdoors.
	Fay is survived by his wife Anna; daughters & sons-in-law, Sharon &
Bill Serene and Brenda & Gary Arnold. Grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Richard
& Robert Hamilton; grandson Brian Arnold, granddaughter Kristie Arnold and
great-granddaughter Elizabeth Hamilton, all of Penn Valley; siblings, Bill
Lane of Denver, CO and Connie Herron of PA. He was preceded in death by
his brother, Basil Beaty.

LORENE PETTIT
	Lorene Pettit, 92, longtime Williams resident, died June 29, 2001
at Flagstaff Medical Center. She was born Nov. 4, 1908 in Parks, Arkansas,
the daughter of Jim and Fannie Jameson.
	Mrs. Pettit and her husband, Ben, brought their family to Arizona
in 1953. Ben worked in construction and made a big impact on the development
of Williams and the surrounding area. Mrs. Pettit worked and cared for many
as a loving mother caring for her children, then her grandchildren, great-
grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
	She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981, her parents, five
sisters and two brothers. Survivors include a daughter, Daphine Holleman of
Waldron, Ark; two sons, Jim Pettit and Bill Pettit of Williams; six sisters,
Vida Hoffman of Parks, Ark., Victoria Porter and Joanna Rhyme, both of Waldron,
Ark., Kathleen Morrison, Katherene Murray and Edna Watson, all of San Diego;
eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
	Funeral services were held June 2 at First Baptist Church with
interment following in Williams Cemetery.

	Ruby Jean Hogue (formerly Ruby Jean Jones) died Monday, July 16, 2001
in Montclair, California. She was born August 1, 1911 in Scott County, the
daughter of W.V. and Lue Ella Jones of Scott County. She was married to 
William M. Hogue of Mansfield, Arkansas.
	Ruby moved to California in the early 1930's where she met Bill and
was married and raised her family. She remained in California until her
passing.
	She is survived by her son, Gary and his wife Gayle; grandson Kevin
and his wife Denise; granddaughter Carrie and her husband Duane; great-
grandson Connor; brothers Delmar Jones and his family of Fort Smith and Olen
Jones and his family of Huntington Park, CA and all her loving friends.
	Services were held July 16, 2001 at Oakdale Memorial Park in Glendora,

2001 in a Fort Smith hospital. He was a truck driver and a Baptist.

PHILLIP LEGER
	Funeral services were held Saturday, September 1, 2001 at 1:00 pm Mass in
St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro for Phillip Leger, age 41, who died
Wednesday, August 29, 2001 in St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith,
Arkansas.
	Interment was in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Carencro. The Rev. Bill
Melancon, Pastor of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church officiated at the services.
	Musical selections were provided by Valarie Andrus. The songs were Wind
Beneath my Wings, Just a Closer Walk With Thee, On Eagles Wings, You'll Never
Walk Alone and Hail Mary, Gentle Woman.
	Mr. Leger was a native of Lafayette and a resident of Bates, Arkansas
for the past year. He attended Carencro High School.
	Survivors include his wife, Sherri Johnston Leger of Downsville, Louisiana,
five sons, Jeremy Guillory Leger, Phil Guillory, Cody Cormier of Bates, Michael
Cormier and Mathew Cormier of Carencro; two daughters, Catrina Guillory of
Carencro and Tabitha Cormier of Bates; four step-sons, Jeremy Parker, Jason
Parker, Brandon Parker and Dustin Parker, all of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; three
step-daughters, Virginia Rodrigues and Crystal Parker both of Bates, Arkansas
and Danielle Guillory of Cecilia, Louisiana; his mother and step-father, Evelyn
Venable Castille and Norman Castille of Carencro; three brothers, Leeward Leger
and his wife, Cathy of Carencro, Allen Leger and his wife, Elizabeth of Gulf
Shores, Alabama and Carrol Castille and his wife, Stacey of Carencro; and one
sister, Patsy Leger of Cankton.
	He was preceded in death by his father, Pearly Leger.
	A rosary was recited at 8:00 pm Friday at the Funeral Home.
	Pallbearers were Jeremy Guillory Leger, Russell Cormier, Del Leger,
Jeremy Leger, Jeremy Parker and Phil Roger. Honorary pallbearers were Ricky
Castille and Elton Thibodeaux.
	Melancon Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

WINDY LYNN REMER
	Windy Lynn Remer, age 9 of Danville, died Friday, August 30, 2001. Windy
was born June 26, 1992 in Russellville, Arkansas. She was a student at S.C.
Tucker Elementary School in Danville and attended the First Baptist Church in
Danville. She was preceded in death by her father, Adam Remer and grandparents,
Myrle and Blaine Reece.
	Survivors are her mother, Linda Reece Remer; two brothers, Donald Jack
Remer and Michael Blaine Remer; four sisters, April Dawn Remer, Millie Jane
Remer, Marilyn Joan Remer and Charlie Mechelle Remer all of Danville; 
grandparents, Jack and Joan Remer of Blue Ball and great-grandmother, Millie
Remer of Danville.
	Services were Saturday, September 1, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist
Church in Danville, with Rev. Delton Beall officiating. Interment was in Egypt
Cemetery in Blue Ball by Cornwell Funeral Home of Danville. Pallbearers were

OLA MAE HUDSON PHILLIPS
	Ola Mae Hudson Phillips, age 92 of Danville, Arkansas died Thursday,
September 20, 2001 at her home. She was born April 27, 1909 in Olio, Arkansas
to the late Samuel Washington and Lena Miller Hudson. She was a homemaker, 
mother, wife and retired poultry farmer. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Thomas Jefferson Phillips, four brothers, William, Ted, Leon and
Robert Hudson.
	She is survived by three daughters and son-in-law, Betty and Norman
Gangluff of Hattieville, AR, Reba Sanders and Mary Millard of Danville, AR;
one sister and brother-in-law, Anna Lea and Tobe Horn of Danville; three
sisters-in-law, Edith Hudson of Danville, Marie Hudson and Christy Hudson
Johnson both of Waldron, AR; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren;
six great-great grandchildren, several nephews, nieces and cousins.
	Services were Sunday, 2:00 p.m. September 23, 2001 at Cornwell Chapel
in Danville with Rev. Dennis Horn officiating. Interment was in Earl Ladd
