29, 2000 in his home. He was a member of the Blackfork Baptist Church 
and a rancher.

at Haw Creek Cemetery with burial following under the direction of
Martin Funeral Home.
	He is survived by his wife, Julia Ann Hill of the home; 6

28, 2000 in a Waldron hospital. She was a retired secretary and a 
member of the Waldron United Methodist Church.
	Funeral was held at 2 pm on Monday, October 2, 2000 at the 
Waldron United Methodist Church with burial at Kirk Cemetery in 
Cauthron under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron.
	She is survived by her husband Bob Hall of the home; one son
Rick Hall of Dardanelle, Arkansas; one sister, Beulah Riley of Poteau,
Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Kyle Hall and Christopher Hall both of
Russellville, Arkansas.

UDENE BOATRIGHT
	A resident of Howe, Oklahoma, formerly of Mansfield, Arkansas.
A loving mother of 6 children, grandmother of 15, and great-grandmother
of 19, Udene was born April 26, 1922 in Fanshawe, Oklahoma to the late
Oscar and Anne Pennington. She married the late L.D. Boatright on June
15, 1941 in Scott County, Arkansas and they were married 45 years. She
was also preceded in death by one son, William A. (Bill) Boatright.
She was a gold star mother and a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist
Church.
	Funeral service was held at 10 am Thursday, September 28, 2000
at the Pleasant Grove #2 Baptist Church with interment in the Pleasant
Grove Cemetery in Abbott under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of
Mansfield.
	She is survived by her children, Alan and Sandra Boatright of
Dover, Arkansas, and their children/grandchildren, Tami and Marc Allen
and Chris Mitchell and Emily of Tigard, Oregon and Tony and Lisa

	Thomas Willard Hall, 53, of Helena, Arkansas died September 29,
2000 in Helena. Thomas was born October 14, 1946 to Albert and Velma
Hall. He was a graduate of Central High School in 1964, a manager of
Tri-County Fair, president of Tri-County fair association, 52nd Degree
Mason, former administrator of Phillips County jail and a member of
Helena-West Helena Jaycees, a deputy sheriff, member of Fairs and 
Exposition and he was an avid duck hunter.
	He is survived by his wife, Pam Stevens Hall of the home; one
son, James Hall of Waldron; one daughter, Rebecca Hall of Helena; one
brother, George Hall of Statsuma, Alabama; one sister, Patsy Melton of
London, Arkansas; his mother, Velma Hall of Helena; and one granddaughter,
Madison Hall of Waldron. He was preceded in death by two brothers,
Donny Hall and James Hall and his father Albert Hall.
	Services were held at 2 pm on Monday, October 2, 2000 at the
Roller-Citizens Chapel with the Reverend Jim Harrison officiating with
burial following at Sunset Memorial Park in West Helena.
	Pallbearers were Neal Byrd, Jim Hubbard, Jimmy Victory, Monty
McIntosh, Mark Lynn, Billy Ray Brogato, Dan Qualls and Jerry Howard.

DANNY E. BROWN
	Danny E. Brown, 42, of Pocahontas, Arkansas, died Wednesday,
September 27, 2000 in a Memphis, Tennessee trauma center from injuries
he sustained in an accident. He was a construction worker.
	He is survived by his parents, Earnest Brown and Dorothy
Bertelson of Arkansas; three brothers, Richard Brown and his wife of
Waldron, AR, Charles Brown and Darryl Brown both of Arkansas.
	Funeral services will be held at a future time under the
direction of Bartlett Funeral Home - Family Heritage Chapel. Memorial
contributions can be made in lieu of flowers to Chambers Bank. The

CHARLES EDWARD LYONS
	Charles Edward Lyons, age 72, of Waldron died Monday, October 
2, 2000 at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith. Mr. Lyons
was born January 12, 1928 to the late Homer & Faye Hambright Lyons
of Dardanelle. He graduated from Arkansas Tech University in 1952
and was a long time high school coach and educator at the Dardanelle,
Waldron, and Little Rock school systems. Mr. Lyons was a member of the
Waldron First Baptist Church, Waldron Retired Teacher Association, and
a lifetime member of the Arkansas High School Coaches Association.
	He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty Grimes Lyons,
one daughter, Mary Lyons Shoaf of Dallas, two sons and their wives,
Mike and Rose Lyons of Fort Smith, Danny & Jeannie Lyons of Russellville.
Also surviving are five grandchildren, Ellen Lyons, Emily Lyons, Laura
Lyons, Hall Lyons, Parker Shoaf and one sister, Bonnie Jacobs of
Dardanelle.
	Funeral service was held at 2:00 pm Thursday, October 5 at
the Waldron First Baptist Church with Rev. Nelson Wilhelm and Rev.
Frank Thurman officiating and interment at Brearly Cemetery in
Dardanelle under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron.

	John Herman Gilbert, age 78, of Tennessee, formerly of
Waldron, born in Darden, Tennessee, died on Sunday, October 8,
2000 in Crossville, TN.
	He graduated from Lexington, TN High School, served in the
U.S. Navy in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He lived in Tennessee, Alaska,
Arkansas and retired to Memphis, Tennessee.
	He is survived by his brother, Kermitt Gilbert of Darden,

	Ernest E. Whorton, 66, of Sugar Loaf Lake, died Monday, 
October 9, 2000 in his home. He was a former basketball coach,
retired commercial title contractor, member of Midland United
Methodist Church, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean conflict.
	A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m Wednesday, October 11,
2000 at Midland United Methodist Church in Midland, AR under the

PEARL TWYMAN
	Pearl Twyman, 91. of Boles passed away Wednesday, October 
11, 2000 at her home. She was born August 29, 1909 in Aurora Springs,
Missouri to the late Andrew Jackson Hollaway and the late Mary Lorinda
Carver Hollaway. Mrs. Twyman was one of Jehovah's Witnesses for 60
years and was very active in her faith before becoming ill. She was
a loving homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother.
	Survivors include two daughters, Marvina Irene Davis of 
Boles and Marylou Bates of Boles; two grandchildren, Roger Dale 
Bates of Boles and Adrienne Worell of San Antonio, Texas.
	Memorial service will be held Saturday, October 21, at 11
am at the Waldron Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness. Arrangements 
were under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

ROY JOHNSON
	Roy Burton Johnson, age 88, of Waldron passed away Tuesday, 
October 10, 2000 at a Waldron Nursing Home. He was a long time
resident of Scott County and was a Baptist. Mr. Johnson was born
September 14, 1912 at Bates, Arkansas to Walter and Lucy May Powell
Johnson of Quitman, Arkansas. At a very young age, Roy came to live
with his aunt and uncle, Ben and Grace Johnson and was raised as 
one of their children. Roy was in the dray business with his uncle
Ben and cousin R.C. and later they were in the trucking business
together.
	Mr. Johnson is survived by one half-sister, Lucy Russell of
Mabelvale, Arkansas, one half-brother, Ross Johnson of Quitman, 
Arkansas, two grandchildren, Charlene Street of San Jose, California,
Keith Johnson of Modesto California and one great grandson. Also
surviving are his cousin Ben Johnson and his wife Evelyn of Fort
Smith, Arkansas.
	Funeral service was held 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 13, 2000
at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J. Elton Pennington and Rev.
Jim Browning officiating. Interment was in Duncan Cemetery under 
the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron. Pallbearers for 
Mr. Johnson were Leroy Livesay, W.W. "Dick" Davis, Clyde Audas, 
Jay Sorrels, Darrin Johnson and Ben Johnson.

	Elva "Bo" James McCraw passed away Friday, October 13, at a
Waldron nursing home. She was born September 30, 1914, at Dutch
Creek, Arkansas to Levi and Mary Rogers Watson. Elva spent most of
her life in Wichita Falls, Texas where she retired from Wichita 
Falls Health Clinic. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl
James. After retiring, Elva returned to the Waldron area and became
a member of the Parks Baptist Church.
	She is survived by her former husband, John McCraw of Parks;
one brother, Jake Watson of Iowa Park, Texas; five nieces, Betty 
Hahn and Eloise Van Cleve both of Waldron, Mary Sue Martine of 
Charleston, Eva Jane West of Boulder, Colorado, and Elva Jean Cary 
of Waco, Texas. Also surviving are two nephews, David Paul Roy of
Denver, Colorado and Lewis Belcher of Van Buren, Arkansas.
	Funeral services were held at 3 pm Monday, October 16, at
Martin Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Sam Waganer officiating.
Interment was in Duncan Cemetery under the direction of Martin
Funeral Home of Waldron. Pallbearers were Lewis Belcher, Jeff 
Belcher, Rodney Bynum, Jerry Lee, Thoms Lee and Joe Martine.

	Orvel (Bob) Newman, 86, of Mansfield, Arkansas died Thursday, 
October 12, 2000 in the Waldron hospital. He was a retired furniture
factory worker.

2000 at the Hon Baptist Church with burial following at Lower Center
Point Cemetery near Hon under the direction of Martin Funeral Home
of Waldron.
	He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Etta Belle Newman;
two daughters, Jewel Johnson and Wanda Price both of Mansfield;
four sons, Lowell Newman and Ricky G. Newman both of Mansfield, 
Bobby Joe Newman of Fort Smith, Robert Lee Newman of Waldron; one

	Robert Lee Vaughn, age 78, of Nola, Scott County, Arkansas
died Friday, October 13, 2000 at his home. Mr. Vaughn was born 
October 17, 1921 in Bluffton, Arkansas to the late John and Myrtle 
Bottoms Vaughn.
	He was a retired sanitation worker for Wayne Poultry and a
WWII Army Veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ava Jewell
Spears Vaughn, one son, Mickey Lee Vaughn and a grandson, Mark
Walker.
	Survivors are one son, Joe Kim Vaughn of Havana, AR; two
daughters, Gail Vaughn of Nola, AR and Vickey Gaston of Gravelly, 
AR; three brothers, J.C. Vaughn and Elmer Vaughn both of Danville,
and Raymond Vaughn of Plainview, AR; one sister, Lillie Pethy of
Briggsville; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
	Burial was Tuesday, October 17, 2000 at 6:30 p.m. at Mt.
Zion Cemetery by Rev. Charley Jones. Arrangements are by Cornwell

was a homemaker and a long time member of Boles Freewill Baptist Church.

at Boles Freewill Baptist Church with burial at Chant Cemetery in 
Y-City, Arkansas under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron.
	She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, John T.
Rose; sisters, Josephine Pettit Rogers and Ruby Pettit Miner; brothers,
Eugene Pettit, James Pettit, Roy Pettit and John E. Pettit; and one
grandson, Steven R. Rose.
	She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Anna Gayle and

STELLA MAE LEWIS
	Stella Mae Lewis, born September 22, 1906 in McCurtain, Oklahoma
to Eli Jackson & Donnie Stephenson departed this world on October 18,
2000. She lived a long and fruitful life setting a wonderful example
for family and friends. She married Daryl Lewis on December 23, 1923.
They were married 51 years and had 8 children. She lived in Oklahoma
City the past 49 years, retiring from Children's Hospital in 1968. She
devoted her remaining years to the Tower's Center, working until she 
was 90. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of
Oklahoma City and most recently attended Penn Avenue Christian Church.
She is preceded in death by husband Daryl Lewis, sons Jack Lewis of
Muskogee and Bert Lewis of Tulsa, daughter Sarah Hutchison of Oklahoma
City, and grandchildren, Sharon Johnson, Junior Jeffery, Russ Jones and
Larry Lewis Shores. She is survived by one brother, EJ Stephenson of
Tulsa and children Bob Lewis of Waldron, Arkansas, Gwenda Jones of Del
City, Anita Jeffery of Waldron, Arkansas, Charles Lewis of Bossier City,
Louisiana, and Judy Renteria of Oklahoma City. She had 23 grandchildren,
30 great-grandchildren and 29 great-great grandchildren.
	She lived the past two years at South Park Health Care Center
in Oklahoma City. Many thanks to Southern Hospice and Justine's crew
at South Park who helped make her last few years as pleasant as possible.
	Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 20, 2000 at the
Martin Funeral Home in Waldron, Arkansas with interment at Duncan
Cemetery.

	Viola Marie Kennedy, 96, of Waldron died Wednesday, October 25,
2000 in a Waldron nursing home. She was a retired insurance agent, a 
Methodist and a member of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death
by her husband, Wilson Kennedy; one son, Gale Kennedy; her parents, 
George and Abigail Eberle; and several brothers and sisters.
	Graveside services were held at 10 am Friday, October 27, 2000
at the Fort Smith National Cemetery under the direction of Martin
Funeral Home.
	She is survived by one grandson and his wife, Wilson and Tanya
Kennedy of Waldron and two great grandchildren, Autumn and Logan Kennedy.

	Ida May Watts, age 94, of Mena, formerly of Black Fork, passed
Wednesday, October 25, 2000 in the Mena Manor Nursing Center.
	She was born August 30, 1906 in Black Fork, Arkansas to the
late Greenberry Davis and the late Nancy Jane Clark Davis. October 4,
1925, she was united in marriage to Squire Robert Watts in Beauchamp,
Arkansas. She was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Black
Fork. She was a loving homemaker, wife, mother, sister and grandmother.
	She is survived by her sons Garland and his wife Patsy Watts
of Black Fork, Arkansas, Donald and his wife Linda Watts of Rosboro,
Arkansas; two daughters, Hattie Thomas of Waldron, Arkansas, Thelma and
her husband James Hearn of Glenwood, Arkansas; one sister, Dorothy
Burns of Fort Worth, Texas; 37 grandchildren; numerous great and great
great grandchildren.
	She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Squire
Rober Watts, sons Eugene Watts, Leonard Watts and Ralph Watts, 4 
brothers and 2 sisters.
	Graveside services were held on Saturday, October 28, 2000 at
2 pm in the Piney Cemetery in Black Fork. Arrangements are under the
direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

2000 at the Parks Baptist Church with Reverend Keith Holleman officiating
with burial at the Parks Cemetery in Parks under the direction of Martin
Funeral Home.
	She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Archie Hill; one son

ROLAND KELLY VARNADO
	Mr. Roland Kelly Varnado I, of Nella, Arkansas passed away Tuesday,
October 24, 2000 in Scott County. He was born July 25, 1947 in Gulf Port,
Mississippi. His age being 53 years, 2 months and 29 days.
	Mr. Varnado was the son of the late Chester A. Varnado and the 
late Kella Rainey. He was united in marriage to Linda Sudduth on 
November 26, 1994 in Mena, Arkansas.
	He made his home in Nella for the past 20 years, was a farmer and
a mechanic, was a member of the New Life Center Church in Waldron, and
was active in the choir.
	He is survived by his wife, Linda Varnado of Nella, AR; three
children, Roland Kelly Varnado II of Baton Rouge, LA, Regina K. Matlock
of Edna, TX and Richard Kyle Varnado of Nella, AR; two step-sons, Michael
Gebhardt of Hamilton, NJ and Joshua Gebhardt of Cherry Hill, AR; one
brother, Chester A. Varnado, Jr. of Walker, LA; one sister, Cessise V.
Lee of Watson, LA; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
his parents and one sister.
	Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 27 in the
Shiloh Baptist Church with Bro. Jim Isham and Bro. Jerry Isham officiating.

10:00 am Thursday, November 2, at Union Ridge Cemetery with Rev. Ray

	Patricia is survived by her husband, Gary Sanderson; one daughter
and son-in-law, Dana and Jeffery Buckner of Huntington; two sons, Brian

his fiance Brandi Womack of Booneville. Also surviving are two grand-
daughters; one sister and brother-in-law Melba Jo and Randall Sanderson

	She graduated from Waldron High School, attended the University of
Arkansas, and graduated from UALR. She was a retired school teacher and
sales person. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Little
Rock.

Kathryn of Little Rock; a granddaughter, Lisa Stevenson Thompson and her
husband, Charles of Flippin, AR; and two great-grandchildren, Steven and

RODNEY R. PATTON
	Rodney Ray "Rod" Patton, 46, of Anderson, Indiana died unexpectedly
on Nov. 6, 2000 at his residence.
	He was born June 4, 1954 in Anderson, Indiana and was a lifelong
Anderson resident. He was a trainer at White Castle for one year and was
employed at Pizza Hut for a number of years. He taught computer technology
at Ivy Tech State College in Anderson and Muncie for six years.
	He was a member of the Lapel American Legion and Phi Theta Kappa
Fraternity. He liked old western TV shows, his favorite was John Wayne. He
loved to read Louis Lamar. He loved eagles and wolves. He served in the U.S.
Marines at the end of the Vietnam War.
	Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Carolyn Bagshaw Patton, whom
he married July 31, 1990, in Anderson; son Andrew Patton of Anderson;
adopted daughter, Angel Patton of Anderson; two stepchildren, Sherri (husband,
Chuck) Presser and Jesse (wife, Cindy) Glover, all of Anderson; five step-
grandchildren, Ross Glover and Madison Presser, Joshua Hamel, Matthew Owens
and Tiffany Owens, all of Anderson; two step-great-granddaughters, Katley
Hamel and Kristi Hamel of Anderson; four brothers and three sisters-in-law,
Dwight & Diana Patton of Bedford, Edward & Linda Patton of Anderson, Wesley
& Judy Patton of Booneville, Ark., and Clark Patton of Pendleton; a sister,

	Mary Naomi Parent, of Chouteau, Oklahoma, age 88 past this life on
Tuesday, October 24, 2000, at Wagoner Community Hospital. She was born to
Douglas and Margaret Hill Parent on August 22, 1912 at Cauthron, Arkansas.
	Naomi was the second child of ten children in her family. Before her
health failed her, she was very active and a hard worker. She attended
church regularly as long as she was able.
	Naomi valued her family and enjoyed the time shared with them. She
is survived by four brothers, Omer Parent of Muskogee, Douglas Parent, Jr.
and Jerrel Parent of Chouteau, Otis Parent; five sisters, Laura Ritter of
Coaldale, Arkansas, Talitha Wilson of Webbers Falls, Elsie Byrd, and 
Virgie of Chouteau, Oklahoma, Helen Wood of Wagoner and their spouses and 
a host of nieces and nephews, and many friends.

	Rev. William B. Simkins, Jr. went to his rest on Saturday, November
18, 2000. He was Associate Pastor, a Church Trustee and an inactive Deacon
for Zion Baptist Church in Conway, AR. He was a member of the Faulkner
County (S.B.C.) Association Executive Board. He was a retired Major for 
the U.S. Army.
	Mr. Simkins was born April 16, 1919 in Ramona, OK to his parents,
William B. Simkins, Sr. and Gertrude Ann Garlington. He was preceded in
death by two daughters, Shirley Overturf and Joyce Brown; one grandson,
Tyler Brown; three sisters, Mildred Barker, Ruth Sims and Kathryn Mikles;
two brothers, Bobby and Glen Simkins.
	He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean (Britt) Simkins of
Conway; two daughters, Ann Taylor of Hot Springs and Judy Taber of Conway;
one son, William B. Simkins III of Conway; one sister, Joann Billy of
Poteau, OK; three brothers, Gene Simkins of Conway, John Simkins of Pocola,
OK and Roy Simkins of Southgate, CA; 17 grandchildren and 23 great-

	Ruby G. Ziskind, 93, of Fort Smith, Arkansas died November 21, 2000
in a local hospital. She was a retired retail saleswoman. She was a member
of the West Ark Church of Christ, and during World War II she worked for
Boeing assembling B-29 bombers.
	Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 25, 2000 at

HAZARD PERRY CARMICHAEL, SR.
	Mr. Hazard Perry Carmichael, Sr., 75, of Mt. Ida, Arkansas died 
Sunday, November 26, 2000 in Hot Springs. Mr. Carmichael was born in 
Vilonia, Arkansas to the late George Washington Carmichael and the late
Maggie Bennett Carmichael. He was a cattle and row crop farmer.
	Survivors include two sons, Officer Hazard Perry Carmichael, Jr.,
of Huntington, Arkansas and Dale B. Carmichael of Overland Park, Kansas;
two daughters, Cynthia Jones of Mt. Ida, AR and Anna Young of Nella, AR;
one brother, G.W. Carmichael of Los Angeles, CA; three sisters, Mabel 
Albert of Pocatello, Idaho, Loudella Klimt of Alabaster, Alabama, and 
Lolita Sams of Conway, AR; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
	Funeral for Mr. Carmichael was at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 30th

WILLIAM GRIMES
	William Franklin Grimes, 64, of Hon died Saturday, December 9, 2000
in his home in the presence of his loved ones. He was a member of Hon 
Baptist Church. He served in the United States Air Force as an Electronics
Technician and worked 29 1/2 years with Landers/General Electric/Trane of
Fort Smith.
	A memorial service to celebrate his life was held Wednesday, 
December 13, at 10:00 am at the Hon Baptist Church.
	He is survived by his wife, Joyce Casey Grimes of Hon, and his
daughter, Susan Grimes Forgoone of St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, who had
the joy of his love for over 40 years. Other family members include: 
brother, Robert Grimes of Ft. Smith, brother, Charles Grimes of Greenwood,
sister Ann Bentley of Van Buren, sister Betty Stem of Ft. Smith, sister-
in-law Eva Taylor of Rudy, sister-in-law Virginia Hull of Downsville,

WILLIAM FRANKLIN HOGUE
	William Franklin Hogue, age 76, of Gravelly, Arkansas died Thursday,
December 7, 2000 at his home in Gravelly. Mr. Hogue was born October 16, 
1924 in Barber, Scott County, Arkansas to the late Joel and Ana Johnson 
Hogue.
	He was a retired farmer, a WWII Army Air Corp veteran, a 32 Degree
Mason and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Dardanelle.
	Survivors are his wife, Beda Rhoades Hogue; one son, Billy Hogue
of Springfield, Arkansas; one sister, Allena Rhoades of California; two
grandchildren, Tina Marie Hogue and William Joel Hogue.
	Services were Monday, December 11, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. at Cornwell
Chapel in Danville with Rev. John James and Rev. Ernie Bryan officiating.
Interment was in Young Gravelly Cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Home in
Danville.

Organizations and T-Ball Suburban League.

	Joseph S. "Joe" Woodall, Jr., age 75 of Waltreak, Yell County,

Russellville. Mr. Woodall was a retired timberman.
