Arkansas died Sunday, July 2, 2000 in his home. He was a cook and a 
member of the Mount Moriah Church.
	Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, July 5, 2000 
at the Mount Moriah Church with burial following under the direction 
of Martin Funeral Home.
	Matt was survived by his mother, Ann Wagner of Fort Smith; 
his father, Bud Wagner of Waldron; his grandmother, Mildred Wagner of 
Waldron; four sisters, Regina Mailand of Barling, Judy Bullington of 
Fort Smith, Kortney Wagner and Kinnley Wagner, both of Waldron; two 
brothers, Mike Wagner of Iowa Park, Texas and Mark Wagner of Waldron; 
four nephews, four nieces, two great nieces and several aunts, uncles 
and cousins.

2000 in a Waldron hospital. She was a homemaker, a Baptist, a seamstress 
and an Eastern Star.
	Funeral services were held at 3 pm Monday, July 3, 2000, at 
Martin Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Laural Land Cemetery in 
Dallas, Texas.
	Margaret is survived by two daughters, Sarah Weatherly of 
Boles and Opal Stevenson of Euless, Texas; and ten grandchildren 
including Deida Ridenhour, Margaret Glenn, Richard Weatherly Jr. 
all of Boles, and Linda Baker of Sulpher Springs, Texas; 13 
great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

HARLEY FERGUSON, JR.
	Harley Ferguson, Jr., 72, of Mt. Ida, Arkansas passed away
on July 1, 2000. He was born on May 11, 1928 in Harvey, Arkansas to
the late Harley Ferguson, Sr. and the late Freida Martin Ferguson.
	He was married to Wilma Johnson Ferguson on May 28, 1949
in Parks, Arkansas.
	He is survived by his wife Wilma Ferguson; one son, Thomas
Ferguson; two brothers and one sister-in-law, John and Hazel Ferguson
of Alma, Arkansas and Claude (Joe) Ferguson of Tacoma, Washington; a
very special niece and family, Ramona, Wade and Waylon Abernathy
of Mt. Ida, Arkansas.
	Services were held on Monday, July 3, 2000 at 2 pm at the
First Baptist Church in Mt. Ida, Arkansas with Bros. Mark Lashley
and Willis Summitt officiating. Burial was at the Monroe Cemetery
in Harvey, Arkansas under the direction of Thornton Funeral Home
in Mt. Ida, AR.
	Pallbearers were Derial Hollender, L.D. Yandell, Jeff
Graham, Charles Bates, Jr., Gene Howard, George Forthman, Gene
Bridges. Honorary pallbearers were the Mens Sunday School Class

THELMA HAWKINS MANN
	Thelma Hawkins Mann, 81, a retired real estate manager, died
Saturday, July 1, 2000 in Fort Worth, Texas. Thelma Hawkins was born
on September 11, 1918, in Parks, Arkansas. Her family later moved to
Waldron, AR where she grew up. Thelma moved to Fort Worth, Texas in
1941, where she managed several businesses and became involved in
rental property before retiring.
	A memorial service was held at 3:30 pm Thursday, July 6 in
Greenwood Chapel in Fort Worth, Texas.
	She is survived by one daughter, Glynda Clark; grandchildren,
Bryan Clark, Sherri McDaniel, Melinda Clark and Scott Clark; great-
grandchildren, Christopher, Kyle, Hayden and Chayenne.
	Memorial contributions can be made to Community Hospice of

LORRAINE BATES
	Lorraine Monroe Bates of Fort Smith, formerly of Waldron,
Arkansas, departed this life July 5, 2000, in her home. She was
born December 27, 1918 in Nola, Arkansas to the late Bascom (Bass)
and Irene Oller Monroe. Prior to a long illness, she was a secretary
for the Scott County Judge.
	Though suffering a stroke eighteen years ago, Lorraine
remained courageous and undaunted. She counted each day a blessing
and even through her pain and affliction, she was always without
complaint. A beloved mother and grandmother, Lorraine was a true
inspiration to all those whose lives she touched. Although she has
gone through the gates to be with our heavenly Father, Lorraine's
family is comforted in knowing that she will always be with them
in their hearts and in their memories. Lorraine will forever be a
living presence and a Guardian Angel to her loved ones.
	A devoted wife and mother, Lorraine was preceded in death
by her husband, Bryan Bates; a son, William Hugh Bates; three
grandchildren, John Kenneth Harberson, Jr., Teresa Ann Harberson,
and Ricky Shelby; and a brother, Knox Monroe. She is survived by
two daughters, Brenda Kay Harberson of Cabot, Arkansas, and Maria
Shelby of Fort Smith; a son, Bill Bates of Waldron; two sisters,
Marie Wing and Lille Arnett, both of Waldron; four grandsons, 
Kyle Harberson of Monroe, Louisiana, Greg Aynes of Waldron, David
Aynes of Fort Smith, Sammy Bates of Waldron; one granddaughter, 
Heather Shelby of Fort Smith; four great-grandchildren, Farrah and
Lucas Aynes of Waldron and Jonathan and Matthew Bates of Roswell,
New Mexico.
	Funeral was held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, July 11, 2000 at the
Martin Funeral Chapel of Waldron. Reverend Ricky Hunt officiated.
	Pallbearers were Kyle Harberson, Greg and David Aynes,

J.A. DALTON
	J.A. Dalton, 76, of Waldron died Wednesday, July 5, 2000
at St. Edwards Hospital in Fort Smith.
	J.A. was born the oldest son of Pat and Margie Dalton on
August 20, 1923 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He later moved with his
family from Norman to Waldron. He served in the Marine Corp. during
World War II. He returned to Waldron and was involved in the
trucking and lumber business. He later served as President and
Manager of the Hughes Insurance Agency for 53 years. He also served
on the board of directors at the Bank of Waldron. His true passion
in life was his love of horses and the "Rodeo." He will long be
remembered as Area Governor and Executive Board Member of the
International Professional Rodeo Association.
	He is survived by one son, William P. Dalton of Benton,
Arkansas; two daughters, Cissi Hamilton of San Francisco, California
and Susan Adams and husband, Tommy, of England, Arkansas; a sister,
Joann Dozier of Waldron; four granddaughters, Jennifer Dalton of
Missoula, Montana, Leslie Dalton of Sarasota, Florida and Lauren
and Layne Adams of England, Arkansas; three nephews, Miles and
Allen Dozier of Waldron, and Bart Dalton of Owassa, Oklahoma.
	Funeral services were held Saturday at 10 am at the First
Baptist Church in Waldron. Burial was at the National Cemetery in
Fort Smith on Monday, July 10.

	He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Daisy 
Millard; one brother, Gwin Millard; two granddaughters, Sheila K. 
Riddle and Sarie Stewart; and one great-grandson, Payton Paul Lee.
	Funeral services were held at 2 pm on Friday, July 14, 2000
at the Waldron First Baptist Church with burial at Birdsview Cemetery

	Curtis Grover Johnson of Waldron, born October 26, 1908, age
91, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000 in the Waldron Nursing Home. He was 
a retired carpenter and of the Methodist faith.
	Funeral services were held at 10 am on Saturday, July 22, 
2000 at the Methodist Church in Parks with burial at Hawkins 
Cemetery. The Reverends Pat Frost and Jesse Hill officiated. Funeral
arrangements were nder the direction of Martin Funeral Home.
	Curtis is survived by his wife, Allie Jane (Hawkins) Johnson 
of 70 years. They were married in Parks, Arkansas on November 1, 1930.
He is also survived by one son, Jerry Loyd Johnson of Pinetop, Arizona;
two daughters, Charlene Hill of Greenwood, Arkansas and Sharon Slagle 
of Y-City, Arkansas; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and two
great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter
Janice Aline Johnson; two great-great grandsons, Zakary Lee McEntire
and Christopher Ray Zimmer; three brothers, Chester, Ray and Rufus
Johnson and one sister, Alta Johnson.

Mena. He was born March 7, 1928 in Scott County, Arkansas to the late
Bob Watts and Ida May Davis Watts. He was a logger by profession and

	Funeral services were held Saturday, July 29, 2000 at 2 pm at
the Beasley-Wood Chapel with Pastor Perry Heart officiating. Burial
followed in the Piney Cemetery under the direction of Beasley-Wood
Funeral Home.
	He is survived by his children, Barbara Kay Venable, Roger

First Baptist Church in Waldron. Mr. Lassiter was preceded in death
by his parents, Hugh and Sue Lassiter.
	Mr. Lassiter is survived by one sister, Nancy Hobson and her
husband, Ray, of Maumelle, Arkansas; two nephews, David Sparks and his
wife Tiffany of North Little Rock, Jeff Sparks and his wife Danielle 
of Maumelle, and one great nephew, Tucker Jameson Sparks of North
Little Rock.

Wednesday, July 19, 2000. She was predeceased by her her brother,

Ruth Champagne of Bandon, Oregon, Johnnie Sue Johnson of Myrtle Creek,

a Navy veteran of WWII who served as a firefighter of the USS Yorktown,
and was retired from the Missouri Pacific Railroad. He was preceded in

Arkansas. She was an assistant manager of a deli and a member of Haw
Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her paternal
grandfather, Reverend Glen Wagner.
	Funeral services were held Thursday, August 10, 2000 at 2 pm

Waldron hospital. She was a retired owner and operator of a snack bar
near Waldron schools, Baptist and the widow of Lester Burden.

	Minnie Marie Jones, 102, of Waldron died Friday, August 18, 2000
in a Waldron nursing home. She was a homemaker, member of Waldron First

son, Price Jones; one daughter, Anna Hawthorne; one granddaughter, Linda
Jones Oliver.

ESTELLE HOOTEN
	Mrs. Estelle McIntosh Hooten expired on July 1, 2000 in Sulphur
Springs, Texas, where she spent her later years so that she could live
near her twin brother, Estes and his family. He was a rancher there.
	Funeral services were held at 10:30 am on Monday, July 3, 2000
at the First Methodist Church in Cooper, Texas, where she was a member
along with her husband, Clovis, who preceded her in death. She was laid
to rest in the Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of the Delta Funeral
Home. Estelle was the last of a family of 15 siblings born to Arthur Lea
and Grace Bourland McIntosh.
	Estelle was ordained a deaconess in the United Methodist Church.
She served many years in Scott County, where she did a wonderful work
with the youth of the rurual churches and also with First Methodist
Church of Waldron. She was loved and respected by all who had the 
privilege of knowing her. Was very active with Girl Scouts, Waldron
Business and Professional Women's organization, Waldron Area Chamber of
Commerce and other organizations. She was past president of Waldron BPW
organization.
	Everyone knew her as "Miss Mac" when she was in Scott County as
she was still single at that time.
	She remained active in the Chamber of Commerce of Delta County
and was selected as "Woman of the Year" in 1974. After her husband's death,
she served as house mother of East Texas State University then as Social
Director of Blanton Gardens in Dallas until she moved to Sulphur Springs
where her twin brother, Estes lived. She was privileged to enjoy he and
his family for several years.
	She is survived by a lovely step-daughter and son-in-law, Linda
and Clester McKinneny of Austin, Texas, two step granddaughters,
Margaret and Kim, five great grandchildren, a niece, Gracie Weston and
numerous other nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends who loved
her.

a Waldron nursing home. She was a homemaker and a Methodist. Mrs. Self

	Mrs. Self is survived by two sons, R.D. Self, Jr. and Raymond Self

children.

	Rev. Willis Brothers, age 78, of Houston, Arkansas, pastor of Ada
Valley Community Church went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 21,
2000. He pastored at Houston Assembly of God for 14 years as well as
Union Assembly of God in Paris, White Oake Assembly of God in Bearden,
Star City First Assembly of God, Bauxite First Assembly of God, and Oak
Grove Assembly of God in Urbana. He has been in full time ministry for
51 years.
	Bro. Willis is survived by his loving wife, Mildred, of 58 years.
He is also survived by three sons, Douglas Brothers of Houston, Donnie
Brothers (Beverly) of Conway, Dalton Brothers (Susanne)of Bryant, and
one daughter, Delores Cain of Houston. He was blessed with nine grand-
children and 14 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister,
Florie Pyles of Harvey.
	He has touched many lives during long ministry and is now receiving
his heavenly rewards.
	Funeral services were 2:00 pm Wednesday, August 23, at Houston
Assembly of God with Bro. Buddy Wroten, Bro. Don Borland, Bro. Floyd

	Michelle Susanne Owens, 28, died August 25, 2000 at Saint Joseph
Hospital in Kansas City, MO. A memorial service was held at 4 pm Monday,

	Michelle was born June 1, 1972 in Shawnee Mission, KS, and is 
survived by her parents Will and Ruth Ann Owens of Leawood; a brother,
Michael of Seattle, WA and his wife, Robin; an uncle, Ron Pippert, his
wife Mary and their sons, John of Overland Park and Bob of Lenexa.
	She was the granddaughter of the late Frank and Gladys Pippert of
Lawrence, KS, and of the late Paul and Vicki Owens, formerly of Lawrence 
and Waldron, AR.
	Michelle was a member of Village Presbyterian Church. Michelle 
graduated cum laude from Texas Christian University with a major in 
communications and attended the University of Kansas Law School for 
graduate studies.
	At the time of her death she was completing a Bachelors of 
Nursing degree at Saint Luke's Nursing College, and was serving as Vice
President of the Missouri Nursing Student Association. Michelle was the
recipient of a Zeta R. Giles Academic Scholarship and the Fuld 
Fellowship. She was a graduate of Shawnee Mission South High School 
Class of 1990. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority. She was invited,
at age 10, to train with the San Francisco Ballet School; and spent the
following six summers with the New York City Ballet.
	Volunteer activities included Saint Luke's Hospital Children's
Spot, Children's Mercy Hospital, Children's Defense Fund and the 
Children's Rights Foundation in Washington, and the Sexual Violence 
Unit of the Justice Department in Washington.
	Michelle served as an assistant to the Social Secretary at the
White House, and later, served as a program coordinator for The 
Washington Center. When she returned to Kansas City, she was an event
coordinator for The Event Group and for the March of Dimes Birth Defect
Foundation. Arrangements by McGilley State Line Chapel.
	Ule and Gean Horn, Betty Blume, and Wayne Horn of Waldron, Virginia
Sizemore of Conway & Shirley Rose of Maumelle attended the funeral of

MARY CATHERINE JENKINS
	Mary Catherine Jenkins, 67, of North Little Rock, formerly of Waldron,
died Friday, Setp. 1, 2000. Mrs. Jenkins was a native of Bearden, Ark., but
has lived in North Little Rock since 1973. She graduated from St. Vincent's
School of Nursing in 1953 and worked in Public Health as County Health 
Nurse of Scott County and Director of Lonoke County Health Department for
24 years.
	In 1994 she was recognized as Arkansas Public Health Nurse of the 
Year. Mrs. Jenkins was a charter [member] of Pinnacle Chapter of Questers
International Study Organization. She loved to travel and visited most of
the world. She was a member of Bearden United Methodist Church.
	Mrs. Jenkins is survived by three sons, Jeff Jenkins and wife, Cindy,
of Cabot, Jon Jenkins and wife, Elvira, of Aliso Viejo, Calif. and Steven
Jenkins of North Little Rock; one brother, Dr. Ramond R. Mahan and wife,
Elsie, of Ashdown; three grandchildren, Josh, Jacquelyn and Jennifer; and
father of her children, Dr. James A. Jenkins of Mt. Ida. She was preceded
in death by her parents, Raymond and Jennie Vance Mahan.
	Funeral services were at 10 am Tuesday, Sept. 5 at North Little Rock

DAVID L. NELSON
	David Nelson was born on May 4, 1940 at Sault Ste. Marie, MI, the
son of Robert and Rose Zornes Nelson. He grew up at St. Ignace, MI and
graduated from high school. He then attended business college at Bay
City, MI.
	David worked for Computer Services Corporation and DNR Development
Corporation. His work took him to Pakistan from 1970-1975 and then to
Iran until 1978.
	David was married to Kay Tarrant on December 1, 1976 in Tehran,
Iran. In 1978, they moved to Elk City, OK where they owned a motel for
three years. David was the Vice-President with Dalon Enterprises from 
1981 - 1986. He then worked for Simon Engineering in Norman, OK. He was
a pastor from Arkansas from 1993 - 1998. David and Kay moved to Sioux
Falls in May of 1999. David passed away at Sioux Valley Hospital after a
long bout with cancer on August 26, 2000 at the age of 60.
	David liked to hunt and fish, and he enjoyed spending time with his
family and traveling.
	Grateful for having shared in his life is his wife, Kay; parents,
Robert and Rose Nelson of St. Ignace, MI; four sons, Ric Nelson and Mike
Nelson, both of Everett, WA, Mark Cress of Edmonds, WA, John Cress of
Ozark, Arkansas; three daughters, Kimberly Hillier of Everett, WA, Mary
Lawrence of Sioux Falls, Patti Severson of Tea; 9 grandchildren, Allen

FRANKLIN FULLER
	Franklin Pierce Fuller of Waldron was born to the late Thomas Monroe 
and Elnora Williams Fuller on July 3, 1909 in Packsaddle, Arkansas. Frank
married Maxine Rogers on September 26, 1937. He worked as a carpenter and 
owned a sawmill that was located on his farm in Packsaddle.
	Frank was preceded in death by all his siblings and is survived by
his wife of 63 years, Jennie Ann Maxine Fuller, and his children, Shirley 
Jean Diamond and her husband Clyde of Magazine, Arkansas, Roger Fuller and
his wife Susan of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Carole Marie Rose and her husband 
Bobby of Boles, Arkansas, Sharon Ann Stubbs and her husband Dr. L.D. Stubbs 
of DeQueen, Arkansas, Rhonda Kaye Piles and her husband Keith of Parks, 
Arkansas, Anitra Denise Barnett and her husband Rudy of Hope, Arkansas. He
is also survived by seventeen grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren.
	Memorial services were held at 11 am Tuesday, September 26, at Waldron
Church of Christ. Memorial can be made to the Waldron Church of Christ for
the children's home. Arrangements by Martin Funeral Home of Waldron.
