	MINUTES FROM BUCKNER BAPTIST ASSOCIATION MEETINGS

CONCORD 1888 (p. 4)

The Moderator then appointed the following Committees:

On Documents - D. M. Bryant, J. W. Cross and B. D. Barnes.
On Temperance - J. W. Miller, W. D. Looper, and J. M. Ledbetter.
On Nominations - J. W. Condry, John Anderson and E. Ross.
On Home Missions - L. F. Patterson, W. I. Goff and L. T. Hale.
On Religious Literature - B. D. Barnes, James Mathews and C. Burns.
On Foreign Missions - James Edmonson, H. H. Mouser, and A. A. Spiller
On Deceased Ministers and Deacons - J. M. Ledbetter, R. N. Bean and

The roll of Messengers was then called and corrected.

It was ordered that the Clerk write to the churches who are not 
represented and ask them to report their statistics to him to be placed 
in the minutes. Correspondence from other Associations was next taken 
up, and, on motion, Brethren W. M. Morris and E. B. Harlan were seated 
as corresponding Messengers from Short Mountain Association.  Eld. E. L. 
Compere was seated as corresponding Messenger from Ouachita Association.

The rain prevented the Missionary Sermon being preached on Sunday and a 
motion prevailed to have that sermon preached at 11 o'clock, a.m. to-day.

It was agreed to appoint corresponding Messengers to Ouachita and Short 
Mountain Association, also to the General Association.

To Short Mountain Associations when convened with Mascedonia church, 
eight miles Northwest of Hackett City, on Saturday before the first 
Sunday in October 1889, were appointed Brethren L. F. Patterson, H. H. 
Mouser, G. H. Council, J. W. Cross, R. P. Claborn, A. A. Spiller, J. C. 
White, J. M. Ledbetter and J. G. Tripp. Bro. H. H. Mouser moved that 
Bro. L. F. Patterson prepare a letter to that Association. Carried.

To the Ouachita Association when convened with Brush Creek church, 
about 35 miles South of Waldson [Waldron] on the Caddo Gap road in 
Montgomery county, were appointed Brethren Thos. Mills, W. J. Briscoe, 
J. G. Tripp, D. M. Bryant, E. B. Cacy, R. P. Claborn, C. Burns, J. J. 
Holland, F. H. White, and Wm. Byars.  On motion the Moderator (J. N. 
Pennington) was appointed corresponding Messenger to the .....

in the grand and glorious cause so dear to us.  God be praised for such 
a reunion.

	AFTERNOON SESSION

At 2 o'clock p.m., the Association was again convened by Bro. L. F. 
Patterson, assisted by Bro. C. B. Neal.  Bro. Patterson read the 35th 
chapter of Isaiah.  Prayer by Bro. D. C. Yeargin.  W. B. Herndon was 
then appointed, in the absence of Bro. H. N. Smith, the other clerk, 
to assist C. C. Stalcup as clerk.  Letters were then called for, and 
Bro. A. H. Autrey and W. L. Compere were appointed as reading clerks. 
Letters were presented and read.

...appointed Bro. J. S. Wills to take the vote for Moderator, Bro. T. N. 
Wadkins for Clerk, and Bro. J. H. Byers for Treasurer. The vote having 
been taken, Bro. J. S. Wills announced Bro. W. P. Hall elected Moderator. 
Bro. T. N. Wadkins announced that Bro. J. B. Williamson had been elected 
Clerk, and Bro. Byers reported the election of Bro. William Martin as 
Treasurer.

Bro. Patterson, the retiring Moderator, introduced Bro. W. P. Hall, 
the newly elected Moderator.  Bro. Hall then made some appropriate and 
feeling remarks, and introduced to the Association Bro. J. B. Williamson,
who, in a short address tendered his heartfelt thanks to the Association 
for their continued love and respect, as shown in his repeated election 
to clerkship of this body.  The Moderator then appointed the following 
committee on Divine service, consisting of the Pastor and Deacons of the 
Cedar Grove Church, together with Bros. W. M. Tyler and G. H. Council.

In response to the call of the Moderator for petitionery letters, New 
Hartford and Pleasant Valley Baptist churches, through their messengers 
asked for membership in the body.  Upon their reception the Moderator, 
in behalf of the Association, extended to them the hand of fellowship, 
after which the committee on Divine service reported that Bros. Hulsey 
and Windham preach at Pleasant Grove to-night, also Bro. Watkins would 
preach to-night at Freeman's Creek, and Bros. H. L. Been and W. M. Nealy
preach at this place.

A motion to adjourn till 8 o'clock Monday morning prevailed, and after 
the appointment of Bro. Edmonson to lead the Devotional Exercises Sabbath 
morning, commencing at 9 o'clock, the Association was led in prayer by 
Bro. John Anderson.  Benediction by Bro. James Edmondson.

	SATURDAY NIGHT SESSION

Congregation came together by singing. Prayer by Bro. William Ramay.  
Bro. Been read as a scripture lesson the 19th chapter of Exodus. Prayer 
by Bro. Been.  Song, "Did Christ O'er Sinners Weep."  Text, part of the 
6th verse of the 8th chapter of Hebrews.  the sermon was a profound and 
logical exposition of the "Two Covenants," proving that God only pardons 
sins once, and that forever. Bro. Neely followed, continuing in the 
trend of the argument in a clear and impressive manner. Benediction by 
Bro. C. X. Williams.

	SUNDAY MORNING SESSION

Nine o'clock, Prayer Service, led by Bro. James Edmondson, after which 
the Association adjourned for a short recess.

Came together by singing.  Bro. Hulsey read as a Scripture lesson the 
10th chapter of 1st Corinthians.  Prayer by Bro. Patterson.  Song, 
"Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior."  Text, 15th and 17th verses of the above 
chapter.  The sermon was an able and eloquent appeal for a forward move 
among the churches, and will be long remembered by those who heard him. 
After the sermon, Bro. Byers, Bro. Ramay and Bro. Barnes were appointed 
to take collection, which resulted in a cash collection of $58.12. The 
following appointments were then made: Bro. John Tatum to lecture on 
temperance at this place in the evening at 2:30 o'clock; also Bro. 
Charlie X. Williams to lecture on Buckner College.  The Moderator then 
announced the following committees:

at Ione.  Bro. J. C. Williamson at Crow, Eld. Gipson at Pleasant Grove, 
T. N. Watkins at Freeman Creek, and Elder L. F. Patterson at this place

Patterson. The sermon was an able exposition of the mission of Philip at 
Samaria. The discourse was received by the congregation with much joy 
and gladness and will be conductive of lasting good.

The clerk failed to get the themes of the brethren who were appointed

9:30 o'clock - Messengers and congregation came together by singing.  
The moderator then appointed Bro. L. F. Patterson to conduct the Sunday 
School mass meeting which he did in an enthusiastic manner and the 
service was enjoyed by all.

Promptly at 11 o'clock Bro. J. H. Byers proceeded to preach the 
missionary sermon from the 3rd chapter 1st Cor. 9th verse, which was 
an able and eloquent discourse on Missions after which a collection 
was taken which amounted to fifty-seven dollars.

Bro. Lynch were, that we are saved by Faith through the Blood of Christ; 
That the Gospel should be received through the Ministers; Eternal life 
coming unto all who Repent and Believe.  No man could save himself, but 
once Saved, always saved; Closing with a plea to ministering Brethren 
to Preach the whole truth, not fearing man.  At the close of the Sermon 
the Association adjourned to 1:30 o'clock, p.m.

The Association met promptly at 8 o'clock, and after song and prayer,

At night able sermons were preached at the Methodist Church by Brother 
Scofield, and at the Baptist Church by Brother Turner, and collection 
for State Missions at both services amounting to $130.00 were taken.

BUCKNER ASSOCIATION 1917

	PROCEEDINGS

Proceedings of the 47th annual session of the Buckner Baptist Association,
which met with Boothe Baptist church at Boothe Ark., October the 20th at 
10:00 a.m.  Prayer by John E. Tatum.  The moderator H.E. Marsh, read 
Phil. 1 and led in prayer.  The Clerk being absent the Moderator 
appointed John E. Tatum, Clerk pro tem.

11:00 a.m. Prayer by S.B. Barnett and L.F. Patterson, Sermon by L.F. 
Patterson, text 2nd Cor. 5:1.  L. F. Patterson, John H. Byers and the 
deacons of Boothe church were appointed a committee on Divine Service. 
F.K. Ringsmuth made announcement about his Bibles and other books and 
W.A. Moffitt about the Baptist Advance and E.M. Bartlett about his 
song books. Adjouned until 2:00 p.m.

	SATURDAY AFTERNOON SESSION

The devotional was led by D.B. Moore, who read Psa. 23 and opened the 
meeting for talks and the following persons responded:  S.B. Barnett,

shall be ex-officio members of the committee.  The committee shall 
have direction of the missionary operations of the association, subject 
to its control and to make an annual report of its proceedings at each 
session of the association.  Besides the special object entrusted to 
this committee, it shall have authority to represent the association 
in all matters requiring attention while the association is not in 
session.  This committee shall hold regular meetings on Saturday 
preceeding each fifth Lord's day in the year, at such places as may be 
designated by the committee.  The committee shall meet for organization 
immediately after the adjournment of the association.  Three members 
shall constitute a quorum.  

Art. 10.  It shall be the privilege of the association in addition to 
its powers already granted to conduct missionary operations within or 
without its limits, and for this purpose to choose a missionary or 
missionaries as means may allow, designate the fields of labor and 
pay them quarterly through their treasurer out of the funds to be sent 
up along with the fund for publishing the Minutes at every annual meeting.

Art. 11.  The annual meetings of the association shall embrace the 
Lord's day, and shall begin at 11 o'clock a.m. on Friday before the 
3rd Lord's day in October of each year, at which time the introductory 
sermon shall be preached.

Art. 12.  This Constitution may be altered or amended, except as to 
Article 6, Section 1, at any regular meeting of the association by the 
two-thirds vote of the members in attendance.

Art. 8.  Churches may be dismissed from this Association upon application
