THOMPSON CEMETERY
Tate, Scott County, AR

The Thompson Cemetery was established about 1880 when a wounded or sick
soldier, who had been left in the care of Elizabeth Thompson, died and
was buried on the farm. The cemetery is located about 2 miles southwest
of Tate in the NE Quarter of the NW Quarter of Section 18 Twp 4N, R28W
and near the South Line of the William & Elizabeth Thompson Homestead
(1873). It is south of Big Petit Jean Creek and west of Cedar Creek on
the west side of the Tate-White Oak Mountain Road. The cemetery contains
about 125 graves with many being unmarked. The cemetery is active and is
well maintained. A survey of the cemetery was made by Mrs. Ben Brigance,
Mrs. Farmer Wilson and Mrs. Johnie Hanes on October 2, 1968. Wanda M. Gray,
Leroy Livesay, Alma and Lonnie Mullanex completed a survey in October 1984.
Additional information, from my research files and personal knowledge, has
been added.
