Orla Smith, 90, of Knobel died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006.

He was born March 18, 1916, in Peach Orchard in Clay County, a son of
Joseph Richard and Ora Mae Catt Smith, Mr. Smith was a farmer and a
member of the Knobel United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nina Barcus Smith;
an infant son, Paul Lavelle Smith; and three sisters, Gusta
Weese-Herring, Bertha Puggsley and Mabel Perdue.

Survivors include one son, Larry Smith and wife Loretta of Clato, N.C.;
four daughters, Remona Roberts and husband David of Benton, Mary Jean
Baxley and husband George of Corning, Karen Griggs and husband Boyd of
Anchorage, Alaska, and Nina Sue Conway and husband Roger of Paragould;
one brother, Oran Smith of Peach Orchard; nine grandchildren, Thomas
Baxley, Belinda Dillard, Melissa Landreth, Karia Roberts, Sharla
Robertson, Pam Smith, Cindy Corli, Tara Draper and Jennifer Gerrish; 12
great-grandchildren, Brent Baxley, Matthew Dillard, Amy Anderson, Valerie
Dallas, Alyssa Robertson, Meagan and Oliva Landreth, Emily and Lauren
Gerrish, and Caitlin and Jonathan Coril; three great-great-grandchildren,
Garrett, Gavin and Grant Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at Ermert Funeral Home in
Corning. Burial will be in Bond Cemetery in Knobel.

Serving as pallbearers will be Thomas Baxley, Brent Baxley, Rudy
Dillard, Matthew Dillard, Eddie Landreth, Greg Parrish and Roger Conway.
Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Smith, Harold Smith, Norris Boyd,
Cleitus Boyd and Conrad Boyd.

Memorials may be made to Knobel Cemetery Association.

Family comments; He lived his life as a faithful Christian, devoted to
Bible study, his family and work on his farm. He will always be
remembered for his honesty and integrity and his beautiful zinnia and
sunflower gardens.
