     S.C. Redding Sr., Ex-Member Of North Side Police, Dies.
Samuel Corley ("Cap") Redding Sr., 86, veteran member of 
the North Little Rock police force who was retired last June, 
died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. B.F. Garrett, 1909 
Booker Street, Little Rock, at 4 a.m.Thursday.
     Other survivors include a daughter, Miss Catherine Redding 
of Oklahoma City, Okla., three sons, James W. Redding of Tucson, 
Ari., Sam C. Redding Jr. of Camden, and Robert M. Redding of 
Little Rock, and five grandchildren.
     "Cap" Redding was known widely as one of the most colorful 
figures in North Little Rock. He was born at Paris, Tex., May 28, 
1850 and came to Little Rock aboard a steamboat in 1875. He was 
driver on a stage coach line from Seligman, Mo. to Denver, Col., 
and for 25 years was associated with the Wells-Fargo Express 
Company. He served as freight agent for the Missouri Pacific Lines 
from 1912 to 1925 when he was retired.His connection with the 
North Little Rock Police Department began in 1925 when he became 
a desk sergeant. Four years later he was appointed assistant chief 
of police. Later he was made desk sergeant again, which position 
he held until his retirement. 
     Funeral services will be held at the Owens & Co. chapel at 
10:30 a.m. Friday with Ross L. Lawhon and the Rev. J.K. Jobe in 
charge. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery. Pallbearers will be:

     Funeral services for S.C. ("Cap") Redding Sr., retired member 
of the North Little Rock police department, who died early yesterday 
at the home of his daughter, Mrs. B.F. Garrett, 1909 Booker street, 
Little Rock, were to be held at 4 this afternoon at the chapel of 
Owens & Company, North Little Rock, in charge of Ross L. Lawton and 
the Rev. J.K. Jobe. Burial was to be in Oakland cemetery.
