John Paul Schaffner, Sr. went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on 
August 27, 2007 at Ouachita County Medical Center. He was born November 26, 
1946 in the Phillipine Islands. He was the son of Natividad Schaffner and the 
late Paul Webster Schaffner of Fordyce, AR. John Schaffner graduated from 
Fordyce High School in 1966. He served in the US Navy during Vietnam, then 
graduated from UAM in 1976 with a Forestry Degree. He worked in Forestry for 44 
years, with the last 26 years with Arkansas Forestry Commission. John loved 
working with the land and the landowners he helped. The thing he loved the most 
was his family and his God.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sheila Schaffner; his children, Juana 
Pharr of Monticello, John Schaffner, Jr. of Hammond, LA, Julie Schaffner Rowe 
of Little Rock, Jane Hill of Camden, and Joseph Schaffner of Little Rock; 
grandchildren, Daymond Hill, Jr., Lily Hill, Sadie Schaffner, Jude Schaffner, 
Isabella Hill, Dalton Pharr, John Paul “Jack” Schaffner, III, and two others 
waiting to be delivered. He is also survived by his sisters, Florence “Wen” 
Wheeler of Lexington, SC, Marion “Yan” Blackwell of Longwood, FL, Ellen “Len” 
Varner of Bradenton, FL, and Doris “Doe-Doe” Brady of Columbia, MO; brothers, 
Daniel Schaffner of Venice, FL, and William Schaffner of Russellville; and the 
church family of Grace Baptist Church.

Our “Papa” was loved by all who knew him. A celebration of his life will be 
held at Grace Baptist Church at 10:00 AM Friday, August 31, 2007 with interment 
at Smith-Morgan Cemetery following the service. The family will receive friends 
from 5-8 PM Wednesday and Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made 
to Cancer Treatment Centers of America. Proctor Funeral Home is in charge of
