OLD SHADY GROVE CEMETERY

This African-American cemetery is in a grove of hardwood
trees approximately 2000 feet northeast of Shady Grove Baptist
Church which is on Hwy. 79 near the Camden airport. The
cemetery being used now is next to the church. The grove of
hardwood trees is surrounded by a pine plantation planted in
1992. The property belonged to International Paper Co. at that
time and they purposely left the hardwood trees as a buffer
around the cemetery. There are probably many graves here as
evidenced by the indentions in the soil.

Driving directions: Turn right on Church Rd. just north of
Shady Grove Baptist Church and go about 200 feet. A dim
trail to the left leads to the cemetery, but you may not be
able to drive all the way.

Only two markers were found that could be identified.
