HOPEWELL CEMETERY
Located just east of the landfill off Route 23 south below
Booneville, Logan County, Arkansas. The cemetery has suffered a lot
of vandalism, stones overturned, broken and what looks like some
have been dragged to other grave sites! The cemetery is overgrown
with little or no maintenance. There are 81 marked graves and 87
unmarked ones. Some of the marked stones are so faded they cannot
be read. Surveyed October 4, 1998 by Sean Colin Fuhr And Mildred
Collins Wasser.
Jean Smith of Booneville sent me an updated correction on this
cemetery for which we give her many thanks. She is the secretary of
the cemetery and informed me that they are in the process of fixing
and cleaning the cemetery so the public will stop using it as a dump
ground as they have in the past. Apparently when the nearby
landfill is closed people drop their old appliances, tires, etc. In
the cemetery. They are asking for volunteers including the boy
scouts to help restore this old semi-abandoned cemetery. Jean's
