Mrs. Alice Ann (Retha) Whitaker Dade, 63, of Altus died Sunday, Sept.
13, 1998, at her home.
She was a waitress, former resident of Tulare, Calif., daughter of the
late Ray and Alice Drew Whitaker, widow of Don Dade, and attended
Hartman High School and the Assembly of God Church. She is survived by
one son, Harold Ray Boren of Altus; one stepdaughter, Ruth McGhee of
Corcoran, Calif.; one stepson, Don Dade Jr. of Visalia, Calif.; four
sisters, Shirley Boen of Clarksville, Agnes Oliphant of Branson, Mo.,
Betty Morgan of Quapaw, Okla., and Elizabeth O'Rander of Augusta, Ga.;
one brother, Thomas R. Whitaker of Oklahoma City, Okla.; nine
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home
Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was in West Mount
Zion Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Dustin Boren, Robbie Van Den Berg, Virgil
Kessler, Earnest Bohannon, Dean Morgan, and James Owen. Honorary

Huntsville, who died Sept. 12, 1998, at her home, were at 2 p.m.

Huntsville.

She was born in Topeka, Kan., to Edward Francis Marion and Sarah Ann

Fla., Mrs. Belinda Cousins of Huntsville, and Mrs. Reva Payne of

King of Springdale; four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Christeson and Mrs.

Kan., and Mrs. Janetta Sanchez of Entiat, Wash.; 14 grandchildren; and 
five great-grandchildren.

Britt York, 87, of Lamar died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, at Johnson 
Regional Medical Center.
A native of Wewoka, Okla., he was a son of the late Walter Daniel and
Dorthula Clementine Fagan, member of Stillwell Bible Baptist Church,
Pittsburg Masonic Lodge, Fort Smith 32nd Consistency Club, and Johnson
County Cattleman Association, former president of Johnson County 
Riding Club where he was a former director of the quadrille, Merchant 
Marine veteran of World War II, retired poultry USDA inspector, and 
former supervisor of Priebe Processing Plant, Hanford Processing 
Plant, and Swift Plant.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Gertrude York; three daughters and 
one son-in-law, Wilma Frances Reinert of Cave Creek, Ariz., Diane 
Finfrock of Broad Channel, N. Y., and Peggy and Kenny Lederman of 
Lamar; two sisters, Jo Baker of Sulphur Springs, Okla., and Pearl 
Putman of Ada, Okla.; five grandchildren, Ken Lederman and Amy 
Lederman, both of Lamar, Deanna Mielke of Arizona, and Heather 
Finfrock and Britt Finfrock, both of Washington; and two great-
grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Stillwell Bible Baptist 
Church with Rev. Jim Goodman officiating.
Burial was in Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke

Donald Paul Wewers, 40, of Subiaco died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, at 
Paris. 
He was a graduate of Paris High School, owner and operator of Subiaco 
Heat and Air Conditioning, and a member of St. Benedict Catholic 
Church at Subiaco and the Knights of Columbus No. 3787 at Paris.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Donna Weisenfels Wewers; one 
daughter, Morgan Dawn Wewers of Subiaco; two sons, Mitchell Paul 
Wewers and Marcus Evan Wewers, both of Subiaco; parents Herman and 
Stella Schluterman Wewers of Subiaco; three sisters, Patti Wewers of 
Scranton, Janet Scroggins of Conway, S. C., and Anita Collier of 
Charleston; and one brother, Edward Wewers of Scranton.
Rosary was at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at St. Benedict Catholic 
Church at Subiaco.
Funeral mass was at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at St. Benedict 
Catholic Church with burial in St. Benedict Cemetery at Subiaco. Arrangements 
were under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.

1998, at his home.
He was a son of the late James L. McManaman and a factory employee.

He was born in Clarksville to J. H. and Josephine Mertens Werner, a 
member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Malden, Mo., Knights of Columbus, 
the White House Retreat League, and the American Legion, a farmer, and 
World War II Navy veteran of the Seabees of the South Pacific.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Ida Borgognoni Werner; one son, 
Louis Werner of El Cajon, Calif.; four daughters, Dr. Mary Frances 
Werner Luckey of Florence, Ala., Kathleen Klipfel of Gideon, Mo., 
Diana Jones of Lohman, Mo., and Anita Toole of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; 
four sisters, Mildred Huhner, Lillian Coor, Mary Lorfing, and 
Josephine Werner of Clarksville; two brothers, William Werner of 
Little Rock and Bernard Werner of Clarksville; and nine grandchildren,

Mrs. Gene Robertson, 72, of Clarksville died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, 
at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a daughter of the late Fletcher Thompson, widow of Cecil 
Robertson, graduate of Clarksville High School, and member of the 
First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women Association.
She is survived by two daughters, Kathy Robertson of Frankfort, Ky., 
and Phyllis Tucker of Little Rock; mother, Mrs. Frances Thompson of 
Clarksville; three grandchildren, Phillip Grabher of Fayetteville and 
Laura Hamilton and Donna Price, both of Little Rock; and two great-
grandchildren.
Funeral was at 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at the Clarksville First 
United Methodist Church with Rev. Lowell Eaton officiating.
Burial was in Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke

Johnnie Willis Rhoades, 88, of Clarksville died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 
1998, at his home.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, son of the late 
Luther and Tressie Gunter Rhoades, ASC employee and farmer, served on 
the Hartman School Board, and was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. 
Mildred Rhoades. 
He is survived by two daughters, Becky Bane of Clarksville and 
Kathleen McCaffrey of Iowa City, Iowa; one son, Paul Rhoades of Santa 
Teresa, N. M.; one sister, Corrine McKone of Los Angeles, Calif.; and 
six grandchildren.

including a granddaughter and spouse, Jenny and Chuck Whitson Jr. of 
Clarksville; 51 great-grandchildren including Jessica and Alex Olmos

late Hall and Amanda Bush Johnson, and widow of John Willis.
She is survived by one daughter, Anna Stewart of Dover; two sons, 
Johnny Willis of Tacoma, Wash., and James Willis of Russellville; six
grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-
grandchildren.

Anita Weathers and Rita Yates, both of Coal Hill; one son, John

Sept. 20, 1998, at Newton County Nursing Home at Nail.
She was a lifelong resident of Newton County, daughter of the late 
Jesse and Cora Strait Coon, widow of Henry Sams, and a member of the 
Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness at Deer.
She is survived by one other son, J. R. Sams of Deer; one brother, Rex 
Coon of Clarksville; one sister, Grace Ashlock of Clarksville; 12 
grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-
grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 
at the Hickory Grove Cemetery at Nail with Joe Sain officiating. 
Arrangements are under the direction of Coffman Funeral Home of 
Jasper.

Union Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Vernon Long officiating.

Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
A native of Lutherville, she was a daughter of the late Emil and Emma 
Moser Senger, widow of Adolph Kreipke, member of the Grace Lutheran 
Church and Lutheran Women's Missioary League and a church organist for 
several years.
She is survived by two nephews, Marvin Cook of Ellisville, Mo., and 
Robert Cook of Elgin, Ill.; and two nieces, Jeanette Baker of 
Florissant, Mo., and Lucille Hedge of Madison Heights, Mich.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Grace Lutheran 
Church with Rev. Loren Famuliner officiating. Burial will be in the 
Lutheran Cemetery at Lutherville.
Pallbearers will be Arnold Ahrens, Gerald Van Landingham, Leo

Greer V. Lingle, 80, of Rogers died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, at St. 
Mary's Rogers Memorials Hospital.
He was a native of Coal Hill, son of the late Virgil and Clyde Hill 
Lingle, preceded in death by a brother, Hill Lingle of Coal Hill, 
former resident of Ozark, retired educator, former Rogers School 
superintendent, and played an instrumental role in founding the 
Northwest Arkansas Community College.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rogers, Lions 
Club, United Auto Workers Union, Chamber of Commerce, and American 
Legion and served on the Rogers Museum Board and as a sergeant in the 
Army Air Corps.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Claudia Prim Lingle; one son, Jim 
Lingle of Rogers; one daughter, Myra Earls of Glendale, Calif.; four 
grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral was at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at First Presbyterian Church 
of Rogers with Rev. Dr. Jimmy Hopper and Rev. Dr. Katie Kelly Hopper
officiating.
Burial was at Benton County Memorial Park under the direction of
Callison-Lough Funeral Home of Rogers.

Mrs. Janet B. Curb, 55, of Clarksville died Sept. 16, 1998, at her 
home.
She was a native of Iowa, member of the Lutheran Church, 1960 high 
school graduate, received an associate of arts degree from St. John's 
College in 1962, a bachelor of arts degree from Wayne State College in 
1967, and a master of arts degree in English from the University of 
Arkansas in 1972.
She was a former employee of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Fremont 
Guide and Tribune, and the Production Credit Association, all of 
Fremont, Neb., former assistant to the dean of students at the 
University of Arkansas, and former head of the federally-funded 
student services program at the University of the Ozarks, where she 
later became the director of student services. In the 1970s she 
traveled as an educational consultant in the United States and
Canada, where she was awarded an honorary degree by St. Claire College 
in Windsor, Ontario, and later traveled as an antique dealer from 
1981-90.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Spencer Curb; parents, Lawrence 
and Marie Bettin of Lake View, Iowa; one stepdaughter, Elisabeth Curb 
DeVore of Orlando, Fla.; one brother, Charles Bettin; one 
granddaughter, Cheyenne DeVore; two nephews, Dr. Todd Bettin of Lake 
View, Iowa, and Christopher Bettin of Dallas, Texas; one niece, Lorri 
Bettin of Swea City, Iowa; and two great-nieces.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Raymond 
Munger Memorial Chapel on the campus of the University of the Ozarks 
in Clarksville. Local arrangements were under the direction of 
Hardwicke Funeral Home.

James R. Head, 81, of Russellville died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, at 
Arkansas Heart Hospital at Little Rock.
A native of Lamar, he was a son of the late Robert Bedford and Lillie
Hackett Head, graduate of the University of the Ozarks and U. S. Army  
Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a retired claims supervisor 
with the Employment Security Division in Russellville where he was 
employed for 35 years, volunteer math tutor at Center Valley 
Elementary School for the past seven years, and a member of the Second 
Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for the past 40 years and 
was a Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Juanita Wright Head; one daughter 
and son-in-law, Martha and Rick Eidson of Russellville; one grandson, 
Eric James Clay Eidson of Russellville; two sisters, Hilda Russell of 
North Little Rock and Lilly Jean Heller of Germantown, Tenn.; and a 
number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the Second Baptist 
Church with Rev. David McLemore officiating.
Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park at Russellville under the
direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.

Mrs. Maggie Beth Kueffner, 41, of Route 2, Ozark died Wednesday, Sept. 
9, 1998, at Mercy Hospital/Turner Memorial in Ozark.
She was a registered nurse with Johnson Regional Medical Center and 
Mercy Hospital/Turner Memorial, a native of Wadsworth, Ohio, and 
daughter of Jack and Mollie Miller Dean.
Among the survivors are her husband, Michael Kueffner; four sons, 
Shawn Michael Boesiger, Christopher Floyd Kerr, Andrew Robert Kerr and 
Steven Kyle Kerr, all of Ozark; two daughters, Kelly and Julie 
Kueffner, both of Russellville; mother, Mollie Davis of Barberton, 
Ohio; three sisters, Pamela Langley of Ozark, DeeDee Helko of 
Cleveland, Ohio, and Debbie Toth of Charlotte, N. C.; and three 
brothers, Chris and Chuckie Dean and Chuck Easterling, all of Ohio.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at 
Rankin Cemetery in Ozark with Sister Frances Baker officiating.

home.
He was a son of the late Melvin H. and Opal Sexton Duck, a Baptist, 
and employed as an explosive expert.

Marla Duck of Atascadero, Calif., and Terry Reed of Lamar; one son, 
James M. Duck of Clarkston, Wash.; one stepdaughter, Janet Oliger of 
Lamar; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and the mother of 
his children, Marie Marshall Duck Sharp.

1998, at his home.
He was born at Catalpa to John Wesley and Lillie Mae Cowan Ellison, a
machine operator for Emerson Electric for 17 years and a supervisor 
for Allen Canning Company in Springdale for nine years.
Among the survivors are three sons, David Ellison of Martown, Steven
Anderson of Tulsa, Okla., and Torin Anderson of Rogers; four brothers, 
Cecil Ellison of Pasadena, Texas, George Ellison of Springdale, Noah 
Ellison of Marshall, Texas, and Clois Ellison of Fayetteville; four 
sisters, Lois Self and Mildred Patrick, both of West Fork, Lorene 
Lenhart of Russellville, and Johnnie Melson of Wesley; five 
grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at

She was receptionist and co-owner of Clarksville radio station KLYR,

employee of the International Shoe Company, daughter of the late John 
and Laura Lewellen Hipps, and a member of the First Assembly of God 
Church in Russellville.
Survivors include her husband, Reece Adkison; one son and daughter-in-
law, Ronnie and Terri Adkison of Bossier City, La.; four brothers, 
Chester Hipps and L. C. Hipps, both of Russellville, Hoyt Hipps of 
North Little Rock, and Emmitt Hipps of Sedgwick, Kan.; one sister, 
Alma Carson of Russellville; one granddaughter, Ashton Adkison of 
Bossier City, La.; one grandson, Jordan Adkison of Bossier City, La.; 
and numerous nieces and nephews.

Liberty Hospital.
He was a native of Hartman, son of the late Homer and Atha Irving 
Morrow, Methodist, member of Springhill Masonic Lodge No. 118 at 
Hartman, employed as a machinist for Trans World Airlines at the 
Kansas City Overhaul Base from 1967 until retirement in 1994, member 
of Machinist Union Local No. 1650 and the Arrat Shrine, and was past 
commander of the Oriental Commandry.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Judy Morrow; two daughters and
sons-in-law, Karla and Rick Hendon of Kansas City, Mo., and Rhonda and
Clayton Dodd of Smithville, Mo.; two sisters, Carol Rands of De 
Ridder, La., and Janice Killian of Fort Smith; and three 
grandchildren, Timothy Dodd, Kevin Dodd and Crystal Dodd.

James Romines of Bakersfield, Calif.; three sisters, Rachel Romines of

Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

Caulksville City Cemetery.
