Obituary

Ollie B. Nixon

Ollie B. Nixon, 60, former resident of this city, died Saturday night (Aug 14) 
in the Baptist hospital, Memphis, Tenn., from an illness of one week.

Mr. Nixon became suddenly worse Saturday and was removed to the hospital to 
undergo treatment.

A native of Missouri, he was born at Monette on March 4, 1888, son of the late 
Alfred and Nancy (Torrence) Nixon.  He spent his early boyhood in Monette, 
later going to Fort Smith with his parents where he completed his education.

Mr. Nixon came to Pine Bluff in 1910 to work for the Cotton Belt railroad as a 
crane operator, continuing with the company until 1922.

He later became connected with the Standard Brake Shoe Foundry and in 1936 was 
transferred to Memphis where he was foreman at the plant there.

Mr. Nixon was a member of the Mallory Heights Methodist church in Memphis, 
Tenn., and the O. K. Houch Masonic Lodge No. 706 in Memphis.

He leaves his wife, the former Miss Maddie Westall of this city to whom he was 
married on May 5, 1915; one brother, W. J. Nixon of Phoenix, Ariz.; two nieces, 
Mrs. Robert Malley of Pine Bluff and Mrs. Charlie Pearce of Dallas, Tex., and 
one nephew, Jesse Smith of Dallas.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock at the chapel of 
Ralph Robinson and Son mortuary, in charge of Rev. Walter N. Hill, assistant 
pastor of First Baptist church.  Burial will be in Graceland cemetery, with 
graveside services in charge of the Pine Bluff Masonic Lodge No. 69.

Active pallbearers will be the six brothers of Mrs. Nixon: Carl Westall, 
Chester Westall, and Luck Westall of Pine Bluff, Norwood Westall of Savannah, 
Ga., and Hugh Westall of Hammond, Ind. and Dan Westall of Camden.

Honorary pallbearers will be: John King, Gatewood Watts, Devear Stephens, Rudy 
Karlovic, Everett Garner, Henry Woodruff, Earl Pace, Jim Evans and Harvey V. 
Stauber of Memphis, Joe Cook, Sr., Harry Ksir, H. J. Brenke, Walter R. Evans 
and N. B. Williams of Minden, La.

The body of Mr. Nixon will remain in the parlor of Ralph Robinson and Son 
Mortuary.
