"GOOD HOPE CEMETERY
by James Logan Morgan, Mildred Minor Gregory and Azy Burlison"

"Good Hope Cemetery, a Negro cemetery no longer in use, is located
one-half mile north of old Fitzgerald (on the White River branch of the
Missouri-Pacific Railroad), now a juncture on Arkansas Highway 17, with
the road west going to Jacksonport and Highway 17 continuing east to
Diaz. The cemetery was originally used by the slaves of the Alexander
Robinson family and was reserved as a cemetery (one acre 'buring ground'
in the southeast corner of the NE 1/4 of Secion 22, TWP. 12 N., Range 3
West) when John A. Robinson and Melville L. Robinson, sons of Alexander
Robinson, sold the plantation to William D. Williams in 1872. The one-
acre tract was deeded in 1873 to the Colored Christian Social Aid
Society of Jacksonport. A few years later, Good Hope African Methodist
Episcopal Church and Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church were built on
nearby tracts donated by Sarah W. Fitzgerald. The A.M.E. Church was
also used as a school (Good Hope School in District No. 12).
The first inventory was made 2 Feb 1964 by James Logan Morgan.
The second inventory was made -- Sep 1975 and 24 Sep 1976 by Mildred
Minor Gregory and Azy Burlison."
