Services Held for Mrs. Dovie Sifford
Member of One of County's Pioneer Families

     Mrs. Dovie Sifford, aged 73, member of one of Cross County's pioneer
families, died Thursday at Baptist Hospital in Memphis.  She was a victim of
cancer.
     Mrs. Sifford, whose home was in Cherry Valley, was the wife of J. H.
Sifford, well-known merchant, planter and banker of this area.  She was the
eldest member of the Cherry Valley Methodist Church and was active as a Sunday
School teacher until her last illness.
     She leaves two daughters, Mrs. T. G. Toombes of Cherry Valley and Mrs. W.
M. Smith Sr. of Birdeye; four grandchildren, W. M. Smith Jr., J. H. Smith, Mrs.
J. H. Johnston, and Mrs. J. H. Quessenberry, all of Birdeye, and ten
great-grandchildren.
     Services were held at the Cherry Valley Methodist Church Sunday afternoon
by Rev. J. H. Richardson.  Burial was in Tyer Cemetery at Hydrick.
     Pallbearers were Howard Beasley, Millard Carter, Ezra Stark, J. R. Cavin,
Ronald Barr and Nick Halk.
     The Kernodle Funeral Home was in charge.
