J. H. Snow, a prosperous, respected farmer residing near Garfield, 
Ark., was born in Illinois in 1836, and is a son of William and Mary 
Snow. The father is a North Carolinian, and when a small boy was taken 
to Illinois, where he grew to manhood and married, and was a tiller of 
the soil until 1842, at which time he moved to Benton County, Ark., 
and was there engaged in agricultural pursuits until his death, which 
occurred in 1860. J. H. Snow was reared in Benton County. and received 
such education as could be attained in the common schools of those 
days. He resided with his parents until grown, and in 1858 was married 
to Miss Jane Sutter, who was also a native and resident of Benton 
County, and their union was blessed in the birth of four children: 
James H., Ellen T., Mary F. and John L. Mr. Snow has an excellent farm 
of 120 acres on the White River bottom, about eighty of which are 
under good cultivation and well improved. He and his wife worship in 
the Methodist Church.
