H. L. Stroud. The mercantile interests of Benton County, Ark., are ably
represented in Rogers by Mr. Stroud, who was born in Pea Ridge, Ark.,
in 1858. He is a son of A. B. and Mary I. (Webb) Stroud, who were born
in Tennessee, and are now residing in Carl Junction, Mo., and is the
second of their seven children. His boyhood days were spent in
following the plow and in attending the common schools and the Pea
Ridge High-school. In 1878 his marriage [p.899] with Miss Sallie Pace
was consummated. She was also born in Benton County, her birth
occurring in 1859. Their union was blessed in the birth of four
children: Eva, Annie and Monty, who are twins, and Charley. Mr. Stroud
engaged in agricultural pursuits after his marriage, but shortly after
engaged in merchandising with his father. This he continued until
1886, when he purchased his present property, sold out his interest in
the store at Pea Ridge, rented his farm, and is now residing with his
family in Rogers, where he is devoting all his time and energy to his
store, His stock of goods is large and well selected, and he is doing
a prosperous business. He has in the course of erection a large brick
store building into which he will move his goods as soon as the
building is completed. He is a consistent member of the Christian
Church, and supports the principles of the Republican party.
