MRS. FLORENCE VANCE

Funeral services for Mrs. Florence Vance were held at the Baptist church here Wednesday afternoon
at 2:30, conducted by the pastor, the Reverend L. B. Traylor. Mrs. Vance died in a Batesville
hospital Monday night after her cure from a two weeks serious illness seemed assured. She is
survived by her mother, Mrs. Clara Russell, a daughter, DeElva, both of this place, a sister,
Mrs. Jesse Curlee and a brother, R. B., both of Mathis, Texas, three other brothers, Frank of
Chicago, Liston of Oildale, Calif., and George of Kansas City, Mo. She was born here March 15,
1902, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Randolph Russell, prominent as among the first citizens and
large land owners of the county. In 1924 she was marired [sic] to B. E. Vance, who preceded her
in death. She received here [sic] education here. She was a member of the Baptist church.

"Bill", as she was known to her friends--and everyone who knew her was her friend--was one of the
most highly admired persons in town. For her never-failing humor, her indomitable courage in
facing life and her strength in living it, her forgiving and uncritical attitude toward her
fellow citizens they loved her. They respected her for her fair and sensible business dealings
and for her success in managing the large Russell farm.

The church was packed with hundreds of her friends who had come to pay their last respects to the
departed and the banks of flowers surrounding the casket were tributes of their love. Pall
bearers were: Bob Duro, Robin Morris, Otis Robbins, Paul Morgan, Wylo Dyer and Fay Nelson.
