State of Arkansas, County of Ashley In the Probate Court of said County of
Ashley at the January term thereof AD 1855. Your petitioner William Roberts
represents with the Court that he is the administrator of the Estate of Mary
Roberts decd that said Estate consists of personal property to the Amount of
about five thousand two hundred Seven dollars & 75/100 that there are certain
negroes belonging to said Estate viz: One negro woman named Nancy with her two
children appraised at $800, One nego man named Peter appraised at $800, one
negro woman Layee and her three children Matilda, Semion and Lucy , one negro
woman named Hester aged about 17 years and her child valued at $825 and one
"

P267
"Infant child of said Nancy aged about one year valued at $125. Now your
petition would represent that said Estate is not at all enthralled and that said
Estate should be distributed among the heirs of said decedent and that
distribution cannot be made equally in kind and that it is unnecessary to sell
said property in order that said heirs may receive their portions of the same to
which they are entitled. Therefore your petitioner prays an order of this Court
authorizing him to sell the aforesaid property on such terms as may seem prudent
& for the benefit of the heirs of said Estate and your petitioner as in duty
bound. William Roberts Alex K. Erwin At. For petitioner

The foregoing petitionwas filed in my office 23rd January AD 1855 and the same
is now duly recorded.
