Personal research as of February 2012
Halvor Oleson (and/or Christiansmoen) was born January 21, 1821 at 
Kristiansmoen, Valdres, Sor Aurdal, Oppland, Norway to Ole Halvorsen Stensrud 
and Gunhild Halsteinsdatter. 

Halvor married Kari Halstensdatter Garthushaugen on June 14, 1850 at Oppland, 
Norway. (Kari born abt 1825 Oppland, Norway). 

Halvor, wife Kari and son Ole emigrated 1853 to Wisconsin 
(son Ole Halverson was born July 1850 Oppland, Norway, married Kari Monsdatter 
Bergen January 30, 1886 WI, died 1919 York, Green, Wi). 

The couple settled on a farm and had five more children, all daughters and all 
born in Wisconsin: 

Inger Halvorsdatter (born August 1853, married John J Johnson), died 1922 
Lafayette, WI; 

Mary Molly Halversdatter (or Halvorsen) (born May 20, 1856, married Anton Boe 
November 14, 1885 WI, died July 20, 1920 Lafayette, WI); 

Helena Christiansmoen Halversdatter (April 1859 or 1860, died maybe 1922 WI); 

Betsy Halversdatter (born 1863 or September 1868, married Ole Pedersen, died  
1942 or 1946) and 

Kari Halversdatter (born April 13, 1865, married Andrew Severson, died May 22, 
1948). 

Family found in the June 6, 1860 census living at York, Green, Wisconsin: 
Post office: Moscow. Halvor had $800 in real estate; $150 in personal assets. 
Holver Oleson 39, Caria Oleson 35, Ole Oleson 10, Inger Oleson 7, Mary Oleson 
4, Hellen Oleson 1. 

Halvor Oleson was killed in an accident when cutting trees, he was crushed by a 
tree falling. Halvor died October 20, 1868 at York, Green, Wisconsin and was 
buried at the York Cemetery, Blanchardville, Lafayette, Wisconsin. 

Additional Comments:
Census transcribed as found, obvious spelling errors not corrected. Family 
surname changed from Stensrud (Halvor's father's surname), to Halvorson or 
Halvorsdatter; to Oleson; to Christiansmoen or Kristiansmoen; and to Moe, 
depending on the year and family's preference.
