Norfolk Ledger Dispatch July 20, 1921

Mrs. Amanda Roach Nicholas, age 62 years 11 months and 6 days, died this morning 
at 3:45 o'clock, at her residence, 12 Rodgers Street, South Norfolk, after an 
illness of six years.
She was born at Hickory Ground, Norfolk County and had lived in South Norfolk 
for the past twenty-one years. She was a daughter of the late Jacob and Mrs. 
Nibbie Halstead Roach and widow of L.M. Nicholas. She leaves the following 
children: Mrs. B.F. Lassiter, Mrs. Charles Eason, and J.G. Nicholas; three 
sisters, Miss Cattie Roach, Mrs. M.W. Hall, Mrs. Bettie Hall and one brother, 
Benjamin Roach.
The funeral will take place from the residence Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock and 
the interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery.

The funeral of Mrs. Amanda Roach Nicholas whose death occurred on Wednesday 
morning, July 20, at 3:45 o'clock, after a lingering illness, took place at her 
residence, 12 Rodgers Street, South Norfolk, this afternoon at 2 o'clock. The 
burial, which was in Magnolia Cemetery, was largely attended and there were many 
floral offerings. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. J.O. Babcock, of the 
Lafayette Residence Park Methodist Church, assisted by the Rev. J.S. Battin, of 
the Memorial Methodist Church, and the Rev. O.D. Poythress, of the South Norfolk 
Christian Church. The following nephews acted as pallbearers: A.G. Hall, Victor 
Hall, J.C. Roach, Shaw Roach, Melvin Guynn, Frank Hall, Enns Roach, Louis Roach, 
Arche Roach and William Halstead.
