Barker, son of John and Mellisa Barker was born July 26, 1881, in Lafayette County, near Odessa, and departed this life January 5, 1946 in Kansas City, Missouri at Research hospital. At the age of 14, he ws united with the Baptist church of Eldorado Springs, Missouri. He was united in marriage to Mary E Leiper of Eldorado Springs, April 25, 1900, who proceeded him in death on September 6, 1938. To this union 9 children were born, 8 of whom survive him. One son, Glen, preceded him in death. The surviving children: Mrs. Lillie Bush, Erven Barker, Roy Barker, and A.D. Barker of Odessa, Mrs. Gladys Wahn, Mrs. Blanche Green of Higginsville and Loyd Barker and Mrs. Fern Looney of Kansas City. In 1939, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Nellie Haynes. To them was born one son, Kenneth Lee, of North Kansas City, Mo. Also surving are 2 brothers, J.C. Barker of Webb City, Mo., George Barker of Odessa; and one sister, Mrs. Anna Stapleton of Warrensburg. Twenty-nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a host of nephews and nieces, and many friends also survive. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Baptist church in Odessa, conducted by Rev. Earl Forderhane. Burial at the Barker Cemetery.
