William Riley Whitten, 81, succumbed to an illness of one week at the home of his son, Ellis A.
Whitten, near Wyatt school at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon.
  Mr. Whitten, a former merchant of Lanesburg, Ark., had resided for the past four years with his son,
who is principal of the Wyatt school. He was a member of the New Salem (Methodist) church of
Lanesburg.
  Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Nora Whitten, five daughters, Mrs. Emma Cottingham of Sayre, Ark.; Mrs.
Jennie Hunter of Hot Springs, Mrs. Lillie Carter of Texarkana, Mrs. Laura Hunter of Lanesburg and
Mrs. Belle Snelson of Knox City, Tex.; and five sons, W. R., Jr., and M. F., both of Knox City, J. A.
of Prescott, Alex of Bogwell, Texas and Ellis A. Whitten of El Dorado.
  Funeral services will be conducted at the Wyatt school auditorium Thursday morning at 10 o'clock.
The Rev. D. K. Sawyer will officiate, assisted by the Rev. J. E. Hargett.
  Pallbearers will be: A. W. Lawrence, Joel Trull, K. I. Peters, J. M. Hampton, T. E. Goodwin, H. A.
Adams, J. B. Thurlkill and George Evans.
  Immediately following the services at Wyatt, the body will be taken overland by the Hall-McWilliams
Undertaking company to the New Salem church, 10 miles south of Prescott, for further rites at 2
p.m. Thursday.
  Pallbearers at the later ceremony will be:  G. L. Hare, H. N. Steed, Floyd Bolls, P. R. McGough,
Luther Honea, Cal Bright, O. J. Steed and J.T. Adams, all of Prescott.
