My Grandfather
 
John L. Pumphrey
 
     John Lawrence Pumphrey, 57, of Route 2, died unexpectedly of a heart 
seizure while at work at the Dr. Pepper Bottling Co. Thursday at 8:10 a.m.  
He had been a Dr. Pepper employee for the last 34 years.
     Mr. Pumphrey was born in Union County Nov. 7, 1904, the son of Jesse 
L. and Easther Trull Pumphrey.  A lifelong resident of the county, he was 
a member of the Union Baptist Church.
     Surviving are his widow opal Frances Greer Pumphrey; and six sons, 
Jesse Lee Pumphrey of the U.S. Army stationed in Germany, Kenneth Wayne 
Pumphrey, John Lawrence Pumphrey Jr., Roy Garland Pumphrey, Allen Pumphrey, 
and Dale L. Pumphrey, all of El Dorado.
