LUCILLE HENDERSON

Lucille Henderson, 96, of Crossett, and formerly of Magnolia, died Saturday,
Dec. 8, 2007, at Golden Living Nursing Center in Crossett.

Survivors include two sons, Thornell Henderson of Crestview, Fla., and Claude
Henderson of Crossett; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Unity A.M.E. Church in Magnolia with the
Rev. Enious Montgomery officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in New Bethel-
St. John Cemetery under the direction of Henderson's Funeral Service of
Magnolia.

Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. A wake will be
held from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the chapel.

JAREDA E. LORENZ

Jareda Evans Lorenz, 87, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007, at Medical Center of South
Arkansas.

She was born Dec. 25, 1919, in Haskell, to Dewey Lee Evans and Emma Cleo
Lawrence Evans. Jareda worked as an admitting clerk at Union Medical Center and
also worked at Sterling Department Store and Philips Auto. She was a former
member of the Monday Night Bowling League and was state women's singles champion
in 1970. She was a member of RSVP, Senior Citizen Club, Three Creeks Golden Age
Club, and Adult Women's Sunday School Class at Galilee Baptist Church. She loved
the Razorbacks and loved being with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Harry Lorenz;
daughter-in-law, Carline Lorenz; grandson, Kenneth D. Millican; and niece, Cheri
Hyde Massey.

Survivors include a son, Jerry Lorenz and his wife, Betty, of Parkers Chapel; a
daughter, Jeanette Millican and her husband, Jerrell, of Parkers Chapel; a
brother, Julius L. Evans of Parkers Chapel; a sister, Virginia Williams and her
husband, Bill, of Smackover; three grandchildren, Tim A. Millican and his wife,
Cindy, of Hot Springs; Kim Millican Vaughn and her husband, Ricky, of Parkers
Chapel, Carla Lorenz Henry and her husband, Randy, of El Dorado; nine great-
grandchildren, Eric Millican of Ruston, La., Jonathan Messer of Parkers Chapel,
Derrick and Clay Henry of El Dorado, Lauren Millican of Texarkana, Texas,
Christy Vaughn Blakesley and her husband, John, of Mount Holly, Ricky Vaughn Jr.

Ron Charrise Murphy, 35, of El Dorado, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, in El
Dorado.

The son of Lige and Verniece Thompson Murphy, he was born Nov. 17, 1972, in El
Dorado. He was a member of Cargile of Church of Christ, and was a driver for
Ashley Furniture Co.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father; and a brother, Terry
Murphy.

Survivors include one son, Ron Charisse Murphy Jr.; two daughters, Nahi Murphy
and En'yah Murphy; his mother, Verniece Highshaw; six brothers, Kenneth Murphy,
Gregory Murphy, Alvin Murphy, Ricky Murphy, Tony Murphy and Kenneth Williams;
and two sisters, Sheila McDaniel and Marlene Williams.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cargile Church of Christ in El Dorado
with Bro. Michael Alexander officiating. Burial will be in Mount Zion Lisbon
Cemetery in Lisbon under the direction of Sims Mortuary.

JOYCE L. RUSSELL

Joyce L. Russell, 80, of Strong, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, at Medical Center of
South Arkansas.

She was born May 8, 1927, in Strong, the daughter of Searcy Leonard Saunders Sr.
and Birdie L. Gibson Saunders. She retired from Strong Gardner Elementary School
where she worked in the cafeteria for 31 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William "Bill" Russell;
sisters, Mary Martin, Drucilla Wilson and Helen Vaughn; and a brother, S.L.
Saunders.

Survivors include four daughters, JoAnn Dollar and her husband, Gerald, Sharon
McDowell and her husband, Barry, Billie Barnes and her husband, Melvin, and
Brenda Davis and her husband, Len; grandchildren Heath, Brandon and James
Gilmore, Tabitha Dollar, Stefanie Sanchez, Angela McDowell, Tarrah and Kevin
Barnes, Amanda Dollar and Brent Davis; 16 great-grandchildren; three brothers,
Bill Saunders and his wife, Ethel, Jimmy Saunders and his wife, Louise, and John
Saunders and his wife, Marvene; a sister, Ann Jennings; and a host of nieces and
nephews, along with two companions, Lucretia Banks and Charlotte Henson.

Funeral was held Monday, Dec. 10, at New London Baptist Church with the Revs.
Rodney Grice and Harold Diffie officiating. Burial was in Ebenezer Presbyterian
Cemetery under the direction of Perry's Funeral Chapels in Strong.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the New London Baptist Church

Willie Shaw Jr., 16, of El Dorado, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007, at Medical Center
of South Arkansas.

James Franklin Shultz, 53, of El Dorado, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at his
residence following a lengthy illness.

Born Aug. 11, 1954, in Ottumwa, Iowa, he was the son of Woodrow W. and Mary
Margaret White Shultz. He was a truck driver.

Survivors include a son, Jason James Shultz of Magnolia; four brothers, John
Shultz, Bryan Shultz and Allen Shultz, all of El Dorado, and Ricky Shultz of
Grove City, Ohio; two sisters, Diane Sisk of Magnolia and Deborah Joynes of
North Carolina.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Woodlawn Cemetery with Bro.
Ricky Shultz officiating.

Interment will be under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.

Margie Nell Owen Sutton, 85, of El Dorado, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at Sweet
Home Residential Care Center following a lengthy illness.

Born Feb. 23, 1922, in Union County, she was the daughter of John Edgar and
Alcie Jane Hanry Owen.

She had been employed at NuWay Cleaners and Harrell Cleaners as a clerk and
doing alterations. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred Sutton; three
brothers, Roy Owen, Edgar H. Owen and Willis T. Owen; and one sister, Idell
Oliver.

Survivors include a daughter, Charlene Sutton Schultz of Oklahoma City, Okla.;
two brothers, Sam Owen of Raytown, Mo., and Jerry Boyd Owen of Columbus, Miss.;
and four sisters, Elizabeth Langley of Three Creeks, Claudine Owen Owens of El
Dorado, Julia Davis of Gonzales, La., and Betty Murphree of El Dorado; two
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Allen Temple C.M.E., where she served on the Missionary
Society, and as church treasurer and secretary. She was a cosmetologist.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Grover, Gordon, Garland
and Burton Phifer; and three sisters, Etta, Julia and Media Phifer.

Survivors include one sister, Adele Freeman; one grandson, three great-
grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Gates Chapel in Crossett with the Rev.
Ruby Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery in Crossett
under the direction of Sims Mortuary.

Hospice House following a lengthy illness.

Born July 6, 1948, in Union County, she was the daughter of Lannie O'Neal and
Mary L. Bailey Waller. She had been employed at Wade Correctional Center for 15
years and at Securitas Security for two years. Linda was a member of Cross Life
Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robbie Paul Bridges; and her
stepfather, Jack F. Martin.

Survivors include three brothers, James Vettie Waller (Carolyn), Charles Kevin
Waller (Virginia) and John Kenneth Waller (Francine), all of Junction City. Also
surviving are two grandchildren, Jessica Bridges Johnson (Aaron) of Tahlequah,
Okla., and Cody Paul Bridges of El Dorado; one great-grandchild, Makayla Ann
Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

New Edinburg. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Born Dec. 22, 1922, in Junction City, she was the daughter of Auston and Nora
Reid Aycock. Mrs. Rockett was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Preceding her in death, along with her parents, were her husband ,Alymer
Rockett; grandson, Gary Rockett Jr.; brother, J. R. Aycock; and sister, Arlene
Rockett.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Rockett and his wife, Judy, of Warren, and Doug
Rockett and his wife, Debbie, of Junction City; grandchildren, Sabrina Newell

Lydia Elizabeth Langley, 87 of Junction City, died on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007,
at Life Touch Hospice House following a lengthy illness.

Born Aug. 15, 1920, in Union County, she was the daughter of John Edgar and
Alcie Jane Hanry Owen. She was a long time member of Hopewell Baptist Church and
a homemaker. Mrs. Langley loved the outdoors and fishing and gardening were some
of her favorite activities.

Preceding her in death, along with her parents, were her husband of 66 years,
Kenzie K. Langley; a son, Kenneth Langley; a daughter, Nadine Owens; grandson,
Trey Calk; six brothers, Roy Owen, Edgar Harold Owen, Willis T. Owen, Albert
Owen, Harvey Austin Owen and Andrew Dayton Owen; and two sisters, Idell Oliver
and Margie Sutton.

Survivors include four daughters, Shirley Elliott (Josiah) of Pasadena, Md.,
Peggy New (Jeryl) of Junction City, Mary Pate of Magnolia, and Kay New (Gary) of
Junction City; three sons, John Langley of Houston, Jimmy Langley (Vicky) of
Junction City and Glenn Langley (Debbie) of Magnolia. Surviving sisters are
Claudine Owens of El Dorado, Julia Davis of Gonzales, La. and Betty Murphree of
El Dorado; and brothers, Sam Owen of Raytown, Mo. and Boyd Owen of Columbus,
Miss. Survivors also include 90 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-

Martha Mae Adams Orr, 87, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, Dec.
13, 2007.

Born June 24, 1920, in Calion, to Ernest Frank Willis and Dora Isabela Heckford
Willis, she was a retired nurse's aide from Warner Brown Hospital and Union
Medical Center. She worked as a private caregiver after she retired. She enjoyed
reading, dancing and socializing with her many friends in all the activities at
Champagnolle Landing. An animal lover, she was a strong supporter of UCAPS and
was of the Baptist faith.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands, O. D. Adams Sr., Fred Barnett
and James Roy Orr; sons, Omer Adams Jr. and John Handley Adams; grandson,
William Gary Adams Jr.; sisters, Mary Lou Willis Parker and Lillie Copeland; and
brothers, Bill and Alvin Harris.

Melba Frances Robinson Goodwin, of Plano, Texas, and formerly of El Dorado, died
on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007.

The daughter of Julius Clifford and Della Mae Walker Robinson, she was born in
Winona, Mo., on July 13, 1918. She moved to El Dorado at the age of 3 and
remained until the age of 83.

She was a graduate of El Dorado High School. Melba retired from El Dorado Public
Schools as the assistant food service director after 23 years of service. She
was an active member of First United Methodist Church in El Dorado.

She married the love of her life, L.Q. Goodwin, on July 25, 1944, who preceded
her in death in 1992. They raised four children, two boys and two girls, all
whom survive them; Charles and Oleta Goodwin of Kilgore, Texas, Mary Alice
Goodwin Britt of Uncertain, Texas, Lawrence and Jeri Goodwin of Carrollton,
Texas, and Roger and Sherry Goodwin Brown of Plano. Melba is also survived by
five grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Monday in Young's Chapel with the Rev. Jim Polk
officiating.

Interment will be in Arlington Memorial Park under the direction of Young's

She left a legacy of love for her family and a sweet spirit. She will always be

Blankinship Motor Co. in Warren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Donald Wayne McLemore.

Patricia W. Jenkins, life-long educator, died at her home in Columbia, Mo., Dec.

Born June 2, 1930, in Smackover, Pat was a dedicated educator, remembered and
loved by countless students, colleagues and friends. She was a graduate of
Stephens College, beginning her career as an elementary teacher in Jonesboro.
After receiving her doctorate at the University of Missouri, she became
assistant director of special education in the Columbia Public Schools. On
retiring from the school district, she taught for many years at the University
of Missouri, and was the Teaching Fellows Academic coordinator.

Pat received honors and accolades for her outstanding teaching, but the personal
tributes paid by parents of children with special needs, and from students of
all ages are included in the legacy of this fine educator. Pat gave freely of
her tune and talents; for many years she loved volunteering in her close and
loyal friend, Connie Gehringer's, second-grade classroom. She was a founding
member of Teachers Applying Whole Language, on the advisory board since its
inception, and sponsor of the group during the last few years.

Pat was a member of prominent professional organizations including Center for
Expansion of Language and Thinking, National Council Teachers of English, and
the Whole Language Umbrella. She traveled extensively, including professional
and personal trips to China, Ireland and Australia.

Survivors include her beloved daughters, Marsha Braswell and husband, Troy, of
Missouri, Shelley Muscovalley of Arkansas, Patricia Roberts and her husband,
Jerry, of Texas; her grandchildren Alicia, Alex, Matt, Jeremy, Chad, Amy, Erin,
Joshua, and Neal; and nine great-grandchildren.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and James Wallace; and her
brother, James Wallace Jr.

Patricia played a lasting role in the lives of children and teachers. She will
be remembered as a personal treasure to her children, grandchildren, friends and
professional colleagues.

GENE SIMPSON SR.

Gene Simpson Sr., 83, of Pine Bluff, and formerly of Warren, died Tuesday, Dec.
18, 2007, at the Arkansas Hospice Care Center in Little Rock.

The son of Vertie Vaughn Simpson and Rolla Ann Garner Simpson, he was born Jan.
25, 1924, in Brinkley. He was a Baptist, a World War II U.S. Air Force Veteran,
and a retired farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joe Simpson; and two
sisters, Louise Simpson and Ethal Simpson.

Survivors include two sons, Terry Simpson of Beebe and Gene Simpson Jr. of
Morrilton; three daughters, Anna Freshwater of Las Vegas, Shirley Barton of Pine
Bluff, and Doris Tisdale of Pine Bluff; and a sister, Betty Fisher of Carlisle;
13 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Frazer's Chapel in Warren. Burial will be
in Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Frazer's Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
