New York Daily Tribune April 11, 1844
A MURDER. - A correspondent of the New Orleans Tropic, states that a few days 
since, a dispute arose between John C. McCain and Henry Sweringen, at 
Scarborough's Landing, on the Ouachita river, and that Sweringen drew out a 
Bowie knife and killed McCain on the spot.  He then fled.

Additional Comments:
Note:  The name Scarborough's Landing would be changed to Champagnolle a few 
years later.
