Miss Nancy Smith

The remains of Miss Nancy Smith, formerly of this place and Moscow, but of
late years of Minneapolis, Minn, arrived here Tuesday for interment. The
deceased was one of the earliest settlers in this town, she having taught
the first school in this district. She had reached the age of 84 years. Mr.
and Mrs. C. E. King, with whom she resided, accompanied the remains here
which were laid to rest in the Moscow cemetery by the side of her mother.
Blanchardville Blade.

Miss Smith, better known as Aunt Nancy, will be remembered by the people of
Evansville as she lived here many years, owning the Ned Griffith house on
Liberty Street. She came to Evansville about 1868 and for years kept
Seminary students. Some of her "boys" are well known in this part of the
state. Amoung them are Hon. R. M. La Follette, C. F. P. Pullen, cashier of
the German-American bank of Milwaukee, Mr. Sam J. Wright, a well known
druggist of the same city and several others who have made a success of
life. Before coming here Miss Smith had been for years a druggist, owning
part interest in a well established business. Her last days were spent with
an adopted daughter, Mrs. E. C. King who did everything to make Miss
Smith's life peaceful and happy.
