   Gatesville  Messenger  dec  11, 1980 RITES HELD WEDNESDAY FOR FLOYD H.
   SMITH, 74
   Services  for Floyd Henry Smith, 74, of Gatesville were held at 4 p.m.
   Wednesday,  Dec.  3,  at  Scott's  Funeral  Home chapel. Ministers Hal
   Thacker and Jack Simons conducted the rites, and burial was in the Bee
   House Cemetery.
   Mr.  Smith,  a  retired  oil company foreman, died Dec. 1 in a Liberty
   nursing home.
   Son  of  the late Frank and Cora smith, he was born at Bee House April
   3, 1905, and was reared in that community. He married Miss Minnie Dell
   Rose  in  Ranger on May 20, 1932. He was engaged in oil field work and
   became  a  foreman for Ralph Lowe Oil Co. before retiring 13 years ago
   and mooving to Gatesville.
   Mr. Smith was a member of the Church of Christ.
   He  is  survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Patsy Rose Thacker of
   Dayton;  two sisters, Mrs. Essie King of Pearl and Mrs. Mable Adams of
   Corsicana; a brother, Bill Smith of Hamilton; and two grandchildren.
   Pallbearers  for  Mr. Smith's funeral were Tom Brock, Lewis Lengefeld,
   Buford Mitchell, Amon Hale, John Barnhill and A. J. Gordon.


   
   Gatesville  Messenger  June 11, 1981 ELMER SMITH, RETIRED FARMER, DIES
   THURSDAY
   Elmer Louis Smith of Gatesville died Thursday in a Temple hospital. He
   was 56.
   Services were held at 4 p.m. Friday at Scott's Funeral Home chapel and
   were   conducted   by  Minister  Edward  Schaub.  Burial  was  in  the
   Turnersville Cemetery.
   Mr.  Smith,  born  Sept.  10,  1924,  in  Hamilton,  was reared in the
   Turnersville community and served in the U.S.Army during World War II.
   He  was a retired farmer and also had bween employed at the Gatesville
   state School for Boys.
   Mr. Smith was a member of the Church of Christ.
   Survivors  include a daughter, Mrs. ElMarie Sanford of Gatesville; one
   son, David Smith of Gatesville; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Smith of
   Gatesville,  two  brothers, J.M. Smith Jr; of Mart and George W. Smith
   of Edinburg; and 12 grandchildren.
   Pallbearers  for  Mr.  Smith's  funeral were Danny Whitt, Randy S.ith,
   Richard Pafford, F.J. Pruitt Jr., Jackie Pruitt and Jim Smith.

   
   Gatesville  Messenger June 4, 1981 SERVICES FOR JACK SMITH HELD MONDAY
   IN EVANT
   E.  J.  (Jack)  Smith  Sr.,  of Hamilton died early Sunday in a Temple
   hospital  after  a  short  illness.  He  was  a  former Coryell County
   resident and was the father of E. J. Smith Jr. of Gatesville.
   Services  for  Mr. Smith, a retired farmer, were held at 4 p.m. Monday
   at  the  Marwitz-Freeman  Funeral Home chapel in Evant, with burial in
   the Bee House Cmetery.
   Mr. Smith, son of Mel and Canzada Smith, was born in Coryell County on
   May  20,  1894.  He  lived  in the Pearl and Bee House communities and
   later in the Pottsville area before moving to Hamilton in 1954.
   He was married to Birdie Smith on Dec. 25, 1914.
   Survivors  include his wife of Hamilton; four sons, E. J. Smith Jrl of
   of  Gatesville,  Carlton Smith of Golden, Neimire Smith of Houston and
   Robert  Smith  of  Tucson,  Ariz., two sisters, Mrs. Hershell White of
   Evant  and Mrs. Hattie Franklin of New Mexico; two brothers, Jim Smith
   of   Evant   and  Ira  Smith  of  Baytown;  ten  grandchildren,  eight
   great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
   His grandsons served as pallbearers for Mr. Smith's funeral.


   
   Gatesville Messenger April 1982 MRS. SMITH DIES; RITES HELD TUESDAY
   Mrs.  Becky  Farrar  Smith, 50 of Gatesville died Sunday in a McGregor
   nursing home. She had been in failing health for several weeks.
   Services  were  held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Cole Funeral Home chapel
   in   McGregor,   with  Rev.  Lonnie  Hayter  and  Rev.  Owen  Childers
   officiating. Burial was in Post Oak Cemetery near Oglesby.
   Born  in  Coryell  Couty on Sept 4, 1931, Mrs. Smith attended the Leon
   Junction  and  McGregor  schools.  She  was  employed as a corretional
   officer by the Texas Department of Corrections for five years. She was
   a member of the Live Oak Baptist Church.
   Survivors  include  a  daughter,  Mrs. Monica Roedler of McGregor; one
   son, Lloyd Hale of Euless; her mother, Mrs. Jess Farrar of Gatesville,
   three  sisters,  Mrs.  Jessie  Lee Howard and Mrs. Betsy Cash, both of
   McGregor, and Mrs. Janis Bell of Gatesville; and three grandchildren.


   
   Gatesville Messenger Apr. 22, 1982 SMITH RITES HELD TUESDAY AT EVANT
   Services for Sammie Smith, 80 year old retired Evant farmer, were held
   at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Marwitz-Freeman Funeral Home chapel in Evant.
   Minister Roland Fry officiated, and burial was in Murphree Cemetery.
   Mr. Smith died Sunday in Goldthwaite.
   Son of the Late Samuel Jackson and Mary Magnolia Smith, he was born at
   Evant  Nov.  2, 1901, and lived in that community most of his life. He
   married  the  former  Mary  Patsy  Crawford  on Oct. 8, 1921, at Vista
   Mountain near Evant. She died in 1980.
   Mr.  Smith  is  survived by one son, Lee Gardner Smith of Port Neches;
   two  daughters,  Mrs.  Donallene Taylor of Goldthwaite and Mrs. Willie
   Mae  Kemp  of  Fort  Worth; one sister, Mrs. Valley Bowden of Carlton;
   three  brothers,  Melvin  Smith  of Anchorage, Alaska, Milton Smith of
   Zapata  and  Hartman  Smith  of  Elgin;  six  grandchildren  and eight
   great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers  for Mr. Smith's funeral were Buster Taylor, David Roland,
   Mike  Covington,  Rusty  Jumper,  Bruce Sadowski, Gary Ford and Robert
   Bowden Jr.

   
   Gatesville Messenger 9-12-1985 MRS. R.J. (SALLIE) SMITH
   Gwyneth  Sallie  Smith,  88,  died  Sept.  7 at her residence. Funeral
   services were held Sept. 9 at Scott's Funeral Home Chapel, with burial
   in  the Smith Cemetery. Officiating at the services was the Rev. David
   Crosby, assisted by the Rev. Pat Cole.
   Mrs. Smith was born January 9, 1897 in Pearl, the daughter of the late
   Benmjamin  and Zelma Robinson. She taught school in the Coryell County
   area  for several years before she was married to R.J. "Jake" Smith on
   July  16,  1915  in  King.  They  lived most of their married lives in
   Purmela,  Mr.  Smith preceded her in death on Jan. 24, 1962. She was a
   house wife and a charter member of the Gatesville Singing Sixty's. She
   was  a  member of the Trinity Baptist Church. She was also preceded in
   death   by   two   sons  and  one  daughter,  two  grandsons  and  one
   great-grandson.
   She  is  survived  by  five  sons, Walter H. Smith, Lawrence P. Smith,
   Frank   (Shorty)  Smith,  all  of  Gatesville,  Earnest  L.  Smith  of
   Stephenville and Bill J. Smith of Kaufman; one daughter, Antha Manning
   of Pidcoke; one sister, Cleone Dean of Hamilton; one brother, Benjamin
   Henry    Robinson    of    Denison;    22    grandchildren;   and   26
   great-grandchildren.
   Her grandsons served as pallbearers at the funeral services.

   Gatesville Messenger, Sept 3, 1992 MRS SMITH
   Mrs. Ona (Granny) Smith of Waco died there August 27, she was 87.
   Services  were  held Saturday at Connally/Compton Funeral Home in Waco
   with Rev. Bill Schibler officiating. Burial was in Waco Memorial Park.
   Mrs.  Smith  was  born  October  6, 1904, in Fairy. She lived for many
   years  in  the  South  Mountain cmmunity near Gatesville, and moved to
   Waco  in  1942,  Mrs.  Smith  was  a homemaker and a member of Golinda
   Baptist Church.
   Survivors  include  one son, James Buddy Smith of Waco; two daughters,
   Marie  Berry  and  Faye  Jones,  both of Waco; three brothers, Everett
   Brunson,  Vallie  Brunson  and  Jesse  Brunson, all of Beaumont; seven
   grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
   Memorials may be made to Golinda Baptist Church.
