Smith, Stewart

Sudden Death of Stewart Smith - The sad news of the death of Mr. Stewart Smith, 
a former resident of Salisbury, reached relatives of the deceased on Tuesday. 
According to a dispatch, Mr. Smith fell over dead on Tuesday morning while at 
work in Kaufman's Store, Pittsburg, where he was employed. The body was brought 
to Salisbury on Wednesday to the home of his sister, Mrs. Robert Johnson, from 
where the funeral will be held on Thursday in the Brethren Church, interment 
will be made in the I. O. O. F. Cemetery.

  Stewart Smith, for fifty years a resident of Salisbury, died suddenly at his 
desk in the Kaufman store in Pittsburg Tuesday morning March 7, age 63 years, 8 
months and 22 days. Mr. Smith was a member of the Brethren Church of Salisbury, 
being one of the charter members and was one of the active workers in the 
congregation until the family moved from Salisbury in 1907. He remained a member 
of the local church during the time he resided elsewhere. Deceased was born in 
Salisbury, June 16, 1852. He was a son of William and Caroline Dively Smith. On 
July 27, 1872, he was married to Eliza Araminta Sipe of Mill Run, who preceded 
him to the spirit world in 1914. Four daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Smith, 
one dying in infancy and Katherine the youngest, died in 1900 at the age of 20 
years. The daughters who survive are Mrs. S. P. Schell of Ambridge, and Mrs. C. 
H. Beale who resides in Hazelwood. Mrs. Victoria Baumgartner and Mrs. Robert 
Johnston, both of Salisbury, are sisters. Mr. Smith for a number of years was a 
successful teacher in the schools of Elk Lick Township and Salisbury and later 
was operator for the Western Union Telegraph and manager in Enten & Reeser's 
store. When death summoned him he was employed in Kaufman's store in Pittsburg. 
The funeral was conducted from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Johnston and 
interment was made in the I. O. O. F. Cemetery. The services were held in the 
Brethren Church on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 by his pastor, Rev. Dr. Young and 
Rev. Monn.
