  CHARLES (ED) SMITH
     Charles (Ed) Smith, 79, of Church Street, Venango, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 
  1967, at City Hospital following a long illness.
     A resident of the Cambridge Springs area since 1900, he had been a farmer 
  until 22 years ago, then a cook at the Venango Inn, retiring in 1961.
     He was born April 24, 1888, at Martinsburg, Pa., a son of Jacob B. and 
  Nancy Metzger Smith.
     Mr. Smith was a member of Venango Grange, Venango Odd Fellows Lodge, 
  Venango Volunteer Fire Department and Erie American Legion Post 771.  He was a 
  veteran of World War I.
     He is survived by his widow, the former Florence Sherred whom he married 
  Nov. 10, 1927; two daughters, Mrs. Donna Smith and Mrs. Gene (Elsie) Anthony, 
  and three sons, Ralph, Harry and William Reid, all of Venango; 13 
  grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
     Friends may call today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the H. William Van 
  Matre Funeral Home, Cambridge Springs, where services will be held Tuesday at 
  2 p.m. with the Rev. Darell Harris of Findley Lake (N.Y.) Evangelical United 
  Brethren Church officiating.  Interment will be at Venango Cemetery.
