ALBERT L. SMITH IS CALLED BY DEATH

   Following an illness of about a week which was borne throughout with true
Christian fortitude, Mr. A. L. Smith at 7 o'clock P. M. last Saturday evening
answered the call of his Divine Maker at the Ferriday Hospital where he was 
being treated for Flu-Pneumonia.  His death came as a profound shock to the
members of his family and a wide circle of friends.
   Possessing a pleasing personality and all of the sterling character traits
of a true christian gentleman being a leader of the Monterey Christian Church
of which he was a member and at the time of his death was a member of the local
board of trustees of our school.
   Mr. Smith was a kind father, a loving husband and an upright citizen being
widely known and highly esteemed by all who knew him.
   Albert L. Smith was born in Wilkerson County, Mississippi, fifty-seven years
ago where he lived until he moved to Monterey, thirty-five years ago and is
survived by his widow, Mrs. Edith (Crane) Smith and eleven children, Messrs.
Henry Smith, David Smith, and Wess Smith, all of Harmon, La., Clay Smith of 
L. S. U., Masters Clement and Lawrence Smith of Monterey, La., Mrs. Martha Harp
and Mrs. Edna Eggloff of Harmon, La., Mrs. Ollie Gelespie of Kingston, Miss.,
Mrs. Agatha Spinks of Natchez, Miss., and Miss Alice Smith of Monterey, La.
   Funeral services were conducted by Mr. L. L. Laneharte here at the home of 
the deceased at 11 o'clock A. M. on Monday the 13th of January.  His following
sons acted as Pall Bearers, Henry, Dave, Wess, Clay, Lawrence, and Clement after
which interment was made at the family cemetery on his farm nearby.
   The deepest sympathy of the entire community goes out to Mrs. Smith and
children and other relatives in their sad bereavement.
