 CHARLES LEE SMITH, SR. CEMETERY

LOCATION - From Talbotton,, GA go east on US Hwy 80 for
4.7 miles, turn left on Po Biddy Rd and go 4.3 miles, turn left on paved
road and go 1.6 miles, turn right on dirt road and go 2.9 miles to
cemetery on right of road about 250 yards following an old road.
This cemetery has a rock wall around it and there are no markers.  Names
given to Morgan by Mrs. Courtney Lewis of Thomaston, GA.

The original farm was owned by the  Charles Lee Smith Sr.

Laura and Virginia "Jennie" Smith were unmarried daughters of Charles
Lee Smith, Sr.  There is a least one marked grave and several other
known altar-tombs. It is believed that family slaves were buried at
the cemetery also.

Laura Smith was born ca. 1844 in Georgia, the daughter of Charles Lee
Smith, Sr. and Martha T. Glenn Smith. She joined the Collinsworth
Methodist Church in 1863.

According to family tradition, Laura Smith continued to live in the
Charles Lee Smith, Sr. plantation house with her sister, Virginia
"Jennie" Smith, after the deaths of their parents.

Anthony George Smith, a relative, wrote in a 1978 letter that Aunt
Jennie Smith and Aunt Laura Smith were buried in the Smith family
cemetery near the plantation house.

Virginia "Jennie" Smith was born ca. 1839 in Georgia, the daughter of
Charles Lee Smith, Sr. and Martha T. Glenn Smith. Virginia Smith
joined the Collinsworth Methodist Church in September 1859.

According to family tradition, Jennie Smith continued to live in the
Charles Lee Smith, Sr. plantation house with her sister, Laura Smith,
after the deaths of their parents. It is believed that she died
between 1910 and 1920 in Georgia.

3.ROBERT LEE SMITH

Robert Lee Smith (February 3, 1881 - May 6, 1881) was a son of Simeon
Glenn Smith and Eunice Tigner Smith. He was the grandson of Charles
Lee Smith, Sr. and Martha T. Glenn Smith.

A description of the Smith family cemetery and the information on
Robert Lee Smith's grave marker were found on page 133 of A Rockaway
in Talbot: Travels in an Old Georgia County, Volume II, by William H.
Davidson.
