Born June 20, 1925, in Marlinton, he was the son of the late Carl T. Baker and Gladys Walker Baker. Mr. Baker was a miner and worked as a tire and battery technician at Sears. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Harlem Heights, where he served on the Deacon Board and was treasurer of Benevolence Fund. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rosalyn A. Baker; three sisters, Mary Jane Ferguson, Nellie Jones and Rosa Terry; a brother, Abraham Crawford; and a grandson, Marcus Baker. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Matthews Baker; four daughters, Vera M. Jones and her husband, Homer, of Adelphia, Md., Rita Y. Scott and her husband, Quinton, of Dallas, Carla E. Baker of Dallas and Paula L. Jackson and her husband, Calvin, of Snellsville, Ga.; two sons, attorney Gerald A. Baker and his wife, Deion, of Toledo, Ohio, and the Rev. Paul B. Born Dec. 21, 1907, in Export, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Anderson and Marietta Harrah Anderson. Mrs. Bergen was formerly employed at Pinecrest Hospital as a nurseıs aide. She had been a resident of Sophia since 1939 and was a member of First Baptist Church, Sophia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Barney Bergen, in 1980; and two sisters, Evelyn McVey and Mae Vaught. Iva Mae Scott Cormack Iva Mae Scott Cormack, 89, of Eccles, died Friday, April 16, 1999, at her home following a short illness. Born Oct. 15, 1909, in Roanoke, Va., she was the daughter of the late Roy Herman and Lula Houff Scott. Mrs. Cormack had been a resident of Eccles for more than 70 years and was a member of Eccles Community Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Lambie Cormack, on Sept. 20, 1981; two brothers, Roy and Rice Scott; and two sisters, Margaret and Gladys Scott. Born March 30, 1917, in Lester, she was the daughter of the late Marion Trail and Bertha Arbaugh Trail. Mrs. Crews was a retired salesperson in specialty sales at Kroger, Acme and A&P. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, was past president of the Raleigh Homemakers Club, former member of Eastern Star, Beckley Lodge, teacher at the Shepherdıs Center, former Sunday school teacher at Memorial Baptist and had been a resident of Beckley since 1945. She was preceded in death by two sons, Scotty C. and Carlos Crews Jr.; two brothers, George and William Trail; and a grandson, Charles Scott Crews. Donaghue STERLING, Va. - Virginia Belle Smith Donaghue, 88, formerly of Beckley, died Wednesday, April 14, 1999, in a Virginia care center following a long illness. Born April 23, 1910, in Fort Defiance, Va., she was the daughter of the late Kenley and Grace Lilly Smith. Mrs. Donaghue spent her childhood in Raleigh and Summers counties. She studied nursing at the old Raleigh General Hospital and practiced nursing for more than 30 years. She was a longtime resident of Harper Road, moving to Leesburg, Va., in 1987. She was a member of First Christian Church, Court House Square, and the Nurses Alumni Association. In her leisure time she was an avid fossil and mineral collector. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Donaghue, on April 11, 1981; four brothers, Henry G., William H., K.W. "Pete" and Mayo Smith; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Bond. Charles W. Haskett NEWARK, Del. - Charles William Haskett, 86, formerly of the Oak Hill area, died Wednesday, April 14, 1999, at his home following a long illness. Born March 15, 1913, in Pearisburg, Va., he was the son of the late William and Lucy Haskett. Mr. Haskett was a coal miner in West Virginia for 30 years before moving to Newark in 1960, where he worked in the maintenance department of Wilmington General Hospital until retiring in 1973. He enjoyed working on lawn mowers, loved gardening, especially vegetables with tomatoes and zucchini being his speciality, and also liked country music. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Elowise G. Harrigton Haskett; a son, Gary Baughan of Newark; two daughters, Nylene Rader of Newark and Louise Ann Eads of Bear, Del.; a sister, Marie Tood of Charleston; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Born June 26, 1907, in Beaver, he was the son of the late H. Cleve Lilly and Caroline Sullivan Lilly. Mr. Lilly graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and West Virginia University. He served for some time as a geologist for the state of West Virginia, and during the remainder of his career he was a professor with the West Virginia University School of Mines. He was a member of Drummond Chapel United Methodist Church, Morgantown. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Raybeck Lilly; a sister, Marjorie Lilly Mason; three brothers, Carlton A. Lilly, Roger Merrill Lilly and Glendon Lilly; a sister-in-law, Essie S. Lilly; two brothers-in-law, Lawrence Mason and Leonard G. Sims; and a nephew, Wayne A. Lilly. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mose Thomas Ramieh; three sisters and two brothers. Spence, 75, died Friday, April 16, 1999, in a Fairlea medical center following a long illness. Born Feb. 19, 1924, in Itmann, he was the son of the late Floyd S. and Myrtle Meador Spence. The Rev. Spence was a retired minister and retired miner. He was a member of the Appalachian Conference of the Pentecostal Holiness Church, Dublin, Va., and was a World War II veteran, having served as an anti-aircraft artillery personnel. He was an ordained minister in the Pentecostal Holiness Church. He joined the Virginia Conference, now known as the Appalachian Conference, in August 1959. He pastored churches in Virginia and West Virginia. He pastored in the Tazewell and Shenandoah areas of Virginia, and at Gary, Big Four and Caldwell in West Virginia. The Rev. Spence had lived in Lewisburg since 1990, having pastored and lived in Caldwell for 18 years. Survivors include his wife, Reba B. Spence; two daughters, Clinda Joy Brackman Weeks and her husband, Harold Lewis, of Covington, Va., and Sandra Defibaugh and her husband, William Everette, of Lewisburg; two sisters, Edna Taylor and Lorainne Crane, both of Ridgeway, Va.; and three grandchildren, Stephen and Jonathan Brackman, and Elizabeth DeVito and her husband, Ray. Mrs. Wilities spent her childhood in Beckley and was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and Mount Sinai Nursing School in Cleveland. She was a lifelong resident of Raleigh County, had resided on South Pike Street for many years and was a member of Mabscott United Methodist Church. Mrs. Wilities was a retired nurse, having worked for Dr. H.B. Wurst in Bradley for more than 23 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wilities Jr., in 1943; and a sister, Reta Williams. Survivors include a daughter, Alice Ann Leeber and her husband, Lewis, of Beckley; two grandsons, James E.
