Joseph "Jim" Manley Creech, Jr., 83, of the 7100 block of Granby St., passed away 
on Friday, Jan. 10, 2003. Jim was the retired owner and operator of Joseph M. 
Creech Inc. Building Contractors. Born in Johnson County, N.C., he was the son of 
the late Lillian Stancil Creech and Joseph M. Creech, Sr.

Jim was a life member and past president of the Norfolk Host Lions Club, where he 
was honored as a Melvin Jones Fellow, and as their "Lion of the Year" in 1991. He 
was also a veteran of World War II, having served in the Merchant Marines.

Survivors include his wife, Ernestine R. Creech; three daughters, Marie C. 
Leffler, of Spotsylvania, Va., Geraldine Creech and Nancy C. Kell, both of 
Norfolk; a son, Joseph L. Creech, of Aydlett, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Brenda Z. 
Greene, of Roanoke, Va., and Patricia D. Zilonka, of Norfolk; two stepsons, Jay 
Couch, of Norfolk, and Ricky E. Zilonka, of Virginia Beach; 14 grandchildren and 
nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his previous wives, Willie Currin 
Creech and Kathleen Couch Creech.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Cox Funeral Home by 
Father John Dorgan. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum. The 
family will be at the funeral home today from 3 until 4 p.m. for visitation with 
friends. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Norfolk Host 
Lions Club Foundation, c/o James L. Miller, 500 E. Main St., Suite 1510, Norfolk,
