Mrs. Kinder, age 76, of 19194 Woodland Hills Rd., formerly of Cedar Bluff, died
Friday, April 2, 2004, at her home following a brief illness.

Arlene J. King

RUSSELL COUNTY, Va. –Arlene J. King, 81, formerly of the Belfast community, died
Saturday, April 3, 2004 in Riverside Convalescent Center in Smithfield, Va.

Born March 26, 1923, in Russell County, a daughter of the late James Lilburn
Jackson and the late Nettie Eveline Jackson, she was the wife of the late
William B. King. She was a member of the Dennison United Methodist Church.

Arlene always wished she felt good so she could get in the kitchen and cook like
she used to.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers,
Arthur Jackson, Clarence Jackson, Graham Jackson and Spencer Jackson, and
sister, Bess Taylor.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Carolyn and husband Dudley
King, Chesapeake, Va., and Anna King Miltier, Virginia Beach, Va.; four
grandchildren, Brian Spicer and wife Teri, David Miltier and wife Lisa, Denise
Love and husband Dana and Kelly Miltier and wife Tammy; also 12 great-
grandchildren; a sister, Willie Mae Cox and her husband Ed Cox, Belfast; also
several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, April 5, 2004, in the
Dennison United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Paul Hite and the Rev. Ricky Ray
officiating. The committal service and burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April
6, 2004, in the Jackson Family Cemetery. Those attending should meet at the
church by 10:30 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be
Brian Spicer, Kelly Miltier, David Miltier, Arkie Dye, Dana Love and G.K. King.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Elizabeth Laster

CLEVELAND, Va. – Elizabeth Nannie Kiser Laster, 93, passed away on April 2,
2004.

She was born in Russell County, Va., on May 14, 1911, the daughter of the late
Manley and Margaret Huffman Kiser. Mrs. Laster was a retired registered nurse
and member of the Red Cross. She was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church, the
Baptist Missionary Society and a past leader of the Young Women’s Association.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul
V. Laster, sister, Grace Kiser Whittington, and brothers, Ellis Kiser, Garnett
Kiser and Harold Kiser.

Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Laster Enlow of Lebanon and Connie
Laster Hess of Cleveland; grandchildren, Jennifer Ann Wilson of Santa Barbara,
Calif., and Isaac W. Enlow of Lebanon, and one sister, Dorothy Edmondson of
Lynchburg.

Pallbearers will be Sen. Phillip Puckett, Billy Enlow, Dennis Kiser, Luke Kiser,
Heath Kiser, Roger Meade, Carrol Clark, Dr. Norman Rexrode and Wesley Hess.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 4, at 8 p.m. at Owens Funeral
Service Chapel, with Rev. Tom Edwards, Rev. Darrell Harmon and Rev. James A.
Massie officiating. A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 5, at 2
p.m. at Russell Memorial Cemetery in Lebanon. Those wishing to follow in the
funeral procession are asked to meet at the funeral home by 1:45 p.m.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the
funeral home.

Mary S. Mance

Mary Patsy Smalling Mance, age 74, died peacefully on March 20, 2004, at Cabrini
Hospice Unit in New York City after a courageous battle with cancer.

Patsy was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. G.R. Smalling of Bristol. She
was a retired manager of Corporate Fleet Services of Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Survivors include her sister, Dottie Smalling Davis; niece, Gina Davis from
Fayetteville; several cousins and an aunt.

A memorial service will be held at Central Christian Church on April 8, at 2:30
p.m.

Joyce C. Masini

ANDERSON, S.C. – Joyce Ann Carter Masini, 72, of 156 Soren Lane, died Saturday,
April 3, 2004, at Anderson Area Medical Center.

Born Sept. 3, 1931, in Wilmington, N.C., she was a retired clerk of court in
Napoleon, Ohio. She was a member of Public Employees Retirees in Westerville,
Ohio, and AFSCME Public Employees in Washington, D.C. She was a former member of
Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion Post 8, Winter Haven, Fla. She attended St.
Joseph Catholic Church.

Surviving are her husband, Eugene J. Masini of the home; three sons, Douglas E.
Masini of Bristol Tennessee, Donald W. Masini of Jacksonville, Fla., and David
L. Masini of Orlando, Fla.; three daughters, Dawn M. Harbin of Anderson, Donna
T. Rhodes of Jacksonville and Dianne N. Masini of Union, Mich.; three sisters,
Marie Thomas of Winston-Salem, N.C., Sarah Stiles of Winter Haven and Cynthia
Mach of Friendship, Texas; one brother, Charles Carter of New Bern, N.C.; eight
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was the daughter of the late William C. and Vilma Garner Carter.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Sullivan-King Mortuary,
Northeast Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Sunday
at the Northeast Chapel. The family is at the home of a daughter, Dawn Harbin,
302 North St., Anderson.

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Nancy Marie Pendergrass, age 62, of 943 Hill St., where she
lived with her loving family, George and Barbara Page, went to be with Jesus
Saturday, April 3, 2004, at the Bristol Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Florida and spent most of her life in the Bristol area and was a
member of the Anchored in Jesus Church.

Survivors include three sons and daughter-in-law, George and Tina Pendergrass,
Bristol Tennessee, Tommy Allen Trinkle, Blountville and Ralph Trinkle,
Blountville; grandchildren, Brittany Pendergrass, Kayla Pendergrass, Chucky
Thrift, Jonathan Thrift, Caulene Thrift, Justin Worden, Eddie Barker, Brandon
McCracken, T.J. Page, Tammy Page, Taylor Butrey and Brandy Butrey, and several
nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, April 4, 2004, in the
Weaver Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. David Houser officiating. The committal
will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Eastern Heights Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,

Mrs. Reynolds, 92, of the Hansonville community, went home to be with the Lord,
Thursday, April 1, 2004, in the Russell County Medical Center.

Curtis Sexton

BLOUNTVILLE – Curtis Sexton, 72, passed away Friday evening, April 2, 2004, at
Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Born in Sulpher Springs, Tenn., he had resided in Blountville, Gunnings
community, all his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the
Korean conflict. Mr. Sexton was employed by Sullivan County Schools for 45
years, retiring in July 2002. He was an avid Central Cougar fan and follower. He
was caretaker of the Gunnings Cemetery for 50 years.

Mr. Sexton was a Christian and attended Sunnyside Baptist Church.

His father, Norman Sexton, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Bernice Hicks Sexton; daughter, Patsy
Carroll and husband Ron; sons, Gary Sexton and wife Connie and Rick Sexton and
wife Barbara; grandson, Brandon Carroll; step-granddaughters, Drema Luster and
husband Gary and Lori Reeves; step-great-grandsons, Tyler Luster and Nathaniel
Reeves; mother, Gladys Sexton; sisters, Helen Maines and Geraldine Riner;
nieces, Tammy Campbell and Janet Roller; and nephew, Jim Deck.

Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Sunnyside Baptist Church or any
time at the home. Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday at the church,
with Dr. Jack C. Parrott and Rev. J.W. Depew officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Gunnings Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ned Arnett, John Thomas, Dee Musser, Tony Slagle, Emory
Sells, Kip Kloninger and Gary Luster.

Johnny Wampler

NORTON – Johnny Wampler, 54, stepped into eternity Friday, April 2, 2004, at
Wellmont Lonesome Pine Hospital.

He was a lifelong resident of Norton.

Mr. Wampler was a graduate of J.J. Kelly High School and Clinch Valley College
of the University of Virginia. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a
retiree of the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of Guest River Pentecostal
Church. Additionally, he was a master gardener, who delighted in nurturing and
developing the fruit and blossoms of the earth.

The son of Edith Robinette Wampler and the late William Gordon Wampler, he was
preceded in death by his father-in-law, Henry Z. Roberts, a brother, Willie
Darrell Wampler, and a sister, Cathy Ellen Sturgill.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Deborah Roberts Wampler; his devoted
sister-in-law, Donna Roberts Addington; his mother-in-law, Virginia Roberts
Arwood; sisters, Nola Wilson, Shirley Caudill, Louise Adams, Christine Adams and
Rita Thacker; a brother, Glenn Wampler, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4-5 p.m. on Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Carty
Funeral Home, Norton-Wise, with services following at 5 p.m. in the funeral home
chapel.

Committal services will be at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens at 11 a.m. Monday,
April 5, 2004. Friends and family will meet at the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Southwest Virginia Regional
Cancer Center, 611 Trent St., NE, Norton, or to the American Cancer Society.

RICHLANDS – Funeral services for Mr. Randall G. Whited will be conducted Sunday

Mr. Whited, age 53, of 207 Center St., went to be with the Lord Thursday, April
1, 2004, at Duke University Hospital in Durham, N.C.
