  GATE CITY -- Douglas Gale Bellamy, 59, of Route 6, died Friday, April 28,
  2000, in Holston Valley Medical Center.
  He was born in Scott County, Va., a son of Nellie O'Neal Simms and the

  Gale R. Bellamy, and was retired from Bellamy Manufactory in Hiltons, Va.
  He was of the Baptist faith.
  Surviving, besides his mother, are a daughter, Sherry Ketron of Kingsport;
a son,
  Joe Bellamy of Gray, Tenn.; his stepfather, Bert Simms of Hiltons; a
sister, Mary
  Heiden of Mendota, Ill.; a brother, Harvey Bellamy of Hiltons; three
  grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
  Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 8 p.m. in Scott County
Funeral
  Home Chapel. Dr. Sam Neeley and preacher Nattie Baker will officiate.

  He was of the Lutheran faith.

  Bibee, a member of First Presbyterian Church and was the last surviving

  Emory R. Gilbert

  WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Emory Ralph Gilbert, 76, of 3851 N. River Road,
  died Sunday, April 30, 2000, in St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette.
  He was born in Castlewood, Va., a son of the late Vince Gilbert and Lou
Johnson
  Gilbert. He was a former Rensselaer resident since 1956, moving from
  Castlewood. He lived at the Indiana Veterans Home in West Lafayette since
  1997. He was raised in Castlewood and attended Bakers Ridge and Grassy
  Creek schools.
  He was a truck driver employed with Whiteco Industries of Merrillville,
Ind., from
  1964-87. He worked at Babcock Stone Quarry in Rensselaer for nine years.
  While living in Virginia, he was a farmer. He was a U.S. Army veteran of
World
  War II with Company C of the 20th Infantry from 1944-46. He was a former
  member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Castlewood.
  Surviving are a son, Arnold J. Gilbert of Remington, Ind.; two daughters,
Louella
  Fellmy of Valparaiso, Ind., and Mrs. James A. (Dorothy) Lefler of
Morresville,
  Inc.; two brothers, Roy Gilbert of Ellenton, Fla., and John Gilbert of
Rensselaer;
  two sisters, Ruby E. Waldon of Rensselaer and Mary Ellen Johnson of
  Castlewood; four granddaughters; a grandson; and six great-grandchildren.

  Milton Jere Green

  A memorial service for former Col. Milton Jere Green, U.S. Marine Corps,
will be
  conducted Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in B'Nai Shalom Synagouge, 2510 Highway
  126 in Bristol. His ashes will be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery.
  Mr. Green, 87, of 33 Wellington, Bristol, Tenn., died Monday, May 1, 2000,
at
  home.
  He was born in St. Louis, Mo., a son of the late Jennie Palkes Green and
Nathan
  Goldfarb. He graduated from Tennessee High School in 1929, and from the
  University of Virginia Law School in 1936. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine
Corps
  in 1941 as a second lieutenant, joining the 2nd Division. He served as a
brigade
  commander motor transport in the South Pacific during World War II. In
Tinian,
  he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and was awarded the Bronze Star. He
was
  honorably discharged in 1946, and became a life member of the Marine Corps
  Reserve Officers Association. His medals include the American Defense
Service
  Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal,
the
  Victory Medal World War II, the Bronze Star Medal and three bronze stars.
  Mr. Green returned to Bristol in 1950 as general manager of Twin City Auto
  Parts. He later founded Speed Clip, a wheel-weights business that is now
owned
  and operated by Exide Corp. He later expanded his business interests to
England,
  France and South Africa.
  Surviving are three daughters, Susan Wittman of Pembroke Pines, Fla.,
Virginia
  Green of New York City and Constance Kuhlman of Bristol Tennessee; and
three
  grandchildren, Rebecca Sgan-Cohen of Brooklyn, N.Y., Gabriel Wittman of
  Miami, Fla., and Ephraim Wittman of Pembroke Pines, Fla.
  Mr. Green's mother and stepfather, Thomas Julian Green, lived in Bristol
for 81
  years. His father died when Milton was a baby.
  Mr. Green fought in the Battle of Tarawa, the first American offensive
against the
  Japenese-controlled Pacific Islands in November of 1942. It was the first
  amphibious landing against a heavily fortified objective and one of the
bloodiest in
  Marine history - there were about 1,000 casualties a day in three days of
fighting.
  He was sent back to the United States and two months later was called back
to
  frontline duty to serve on Gen. Douglas MacArthur's staff in the
Phillipines. His job
  under MacArthur was to plan the transport//logistics for the invasion of
Japan. This
  was obviated by then-President Harry Truman's decision to drop the A-bomb.
  Mr. Green later said that Truman's courageous decision saved thousands of
Allied
  lives.
  He was an active supporter of local and international charities, for which
he was
  recognized here and abroad.

  Brothers from 1960-65. He was a special guest at the Grand Ole Opry
several
  times in the 60s. He received and accepted a special invitation to play at
  Constitution Hall for then President Lyndon B. Johnson in the mid- 60s. He
also
  participated in song and testimony in the music ministry for the past 11
years with
  his wife.

  POUNDING MILL, Va. -- Henry Lacy Coe, 80, died Wednesday, May 3,
  2000, in a Tazewell hospital.
  He was born in Tazewell County, Va., a son of the late Bishop and Allie
Lee Coe,
  both Tazewell County natives. He was a lifelong resident of the Richlands
area. He
  was the former owner and operator of the Claypool Hill Skating Rink, a
retired
  miner and a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local Union 1760
  of Seaboard, Va.
  Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Puckett Coe; several nieces and nephews;
and
  several great-nieces and great-nephews.
  Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 4 p.m. in Hurst-Scott
Funeral
  Chapel in Richlands. The Rev. Carl Robinson will officiate. Entombment
will be in
  Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Va.
  Mr. Coe was also preceded in death by a brother, Samuel Melvin Coe.

  in Bristol Nursing Home.
  She was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area, a daughter of the late

  Sallie Pratt. She was the former owner of Nansue. She was also employed at

  King's Beauty Shop, H.P. King Co. and Ruby's Beauty Shop. She was a member
  of Windsor Avenue Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the
  Women's Group. She was a member of DAR and the widow of Vernon F. Derey.
  Surviving are a son, Clifford Walter "Bud" Derey of Roanoke; two
daughters,
  Sally D. Cross of Waynesboro, Va., and Jill D. Brinser of Bristol
Tennessee; a
  brother, Walter "Jack" Pratt of Bristol Tennessee; and seven
grandchildren.
  Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 8 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home
  Chapel. The Rev. Rick Light will officiate. Graveside services will be
Saturday at
  11 a.m. in Glenwood Cemetery.
  Mrs. Derey was also preceded in death by two brothers, Mahlon Pratt and
  Winford Pratt.

  She was a lifelong resident of Russell County and the widow of her husband

  years, Joe Leonard. She was a member of Elk Garden United Methodist Church
  for 70 years and a former member of Bascom United Methodist Church. She
was
  a member of the United Methodist Women, Extension Homemakers Club, Elk
  Garden PTA, 4-H Volunteer Leaders, a Russell County Fair volunteer and a
  Sunday School teacher.
  She was a graduate of Lebanon High School and attended Radford College.
She
  was a retired school teacher, teaching at Elk Garden, The Corner, Lebanon,
  Honaker, Richlands and Bascom Schools.
  Surviving are two sons, Bob Leonard of Fincastle, Va., and David Leonard
of
  Lebanon; a sister, Jessie P. Martin of Lebanon; three grandsons, Robbie
Leonard,
  Joe Leonard and David Leonard II, all of Lebanon; a granddaughter, Sarah

  Leonard of Lebanon; five great-grandchildren, Ransom Leonard, Taylor

  Dishner, and had lived in Roanoke for 35 years, moving to Kingsport 10 years
  ago.
  He retired from the Veterans Administration Center in Salem, Va., was a member
  of Woodmen of the World and VFW Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975 of Bristol,
  Tenn.
  He was of the Lutheran faith.
  Surviving are his wife, Virginia Morrison Dishner; a sister, Dorothy D. Stallard of
  Bristol Tennessee; and two nieces.

  Edna H. Gibson, 89, of Bristol Virginia, died Saturday, April 29, 2000, in Bristol

  She was a daughter of the late George and Lorena Hall, had lived in the Bristol
  area for 30 years and was a homemaker.
  She was a member of Community Baptist Church and the widow of Everett
  Gibson.
  Surviving are a son, James M. Gibson of Bristol Virginia; three brothers, George

  Ky.; three sisters, June Wicker of Greenfield, Mabel Hughes of Pound and Mae
  Austin of Bristol Virginia; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several
  nieces and nephews.

  Bibee, a member of First Presbyterian Church and was the last surviving member
  of Fairmount Thimble Club.

  and Mrs. Jack (Ruby) Bragunier of Greencastle, Pa.; two sons, Cecil Boyd of
  Mocksville, N.C., and the Rev. Roger Boyd of Cedar Bluff; two sisters, Margaret
  Endicott of Cedar Bluff and Mrs. Ira (Mavis) Horne of Richlands; a brother,
  James Horne of Cedar Bluff; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

  granddaughter, Joanne Altizer.

  She was born in Washington County, Va., a daughter of the late James A. and
  Josephine Broyles. She had lived in Gatlinburg and North Carolina before moving
  back to Glade Spring. She was a member of Byars-Cobbs United Methodist
  Church and the widow of Richard Bunting.
  Surviving are a brother, William Broyles of Glade Spring; two sisters, Anne
  Broyles Ellis and Margaret Hogston, both of Glade Spring; two nieces; a nephew;
  two great-nieces; and two great-nephews.

  County area most of her life. She was a 1954 graduate of Richlands High School
  and co-owner of V & V Restaurant in Richlands. She was a member of Dennison
  United Methodist Church in Rosedale.
  Surviving are her husband, Herbert (Don) Cline; a daughter, Becky Cline of
  Abingdon; a son, Chris Cline of Cedar Bluff; two sisters, Dorothy Jackson of
  Cedar Bluff and Alma Daniels of Jonesborough, Tenn.; and a brother, Jim Vencill
  of Abingdon.
  Mrs. Cline was also preceded in death by a brother, Clayton Vencill.

  Transportation and a veteran of the Korean War, earning a number of Battle

  Emory R. Gilbert

  WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Emory Ralph Gilbert, 76, of 3851 N. River Road,
  died Sunday, April 30, 2000, in St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette.
  He was born in Castlewood, Va., a son of the late Vince Gilbert and Lou Johnson
  Gilbert. He was a former Rensselaer resident since 1956, moving from
  Castlewood. He lived at the Indiana Veterans Home in West Lafayette since
  1997. He was raised in Castlewood and attended Bakers Ridge and Grassy
  Creek schools.
  He was a truck driver employed with Whiteco Industries of Merrillville, Ind., from
  1964-87. He worked at Babcock Stone Quarry in Rensselaer for nine years.
  While living in Virginia, he was a farmer. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World
  War II with Company C of the 20th Infantry from 1944-46. He was a former
  member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Castlewood.
  Surviving are a son, Arnold J. Gilbert of Remington, Ind.; two daughters, Louella
  Fellmy of Valparaiso, Ind., and Mrs. James A. (Dorothy) Lefler of Morresville,
  Inc.; two brothers, Roy Gilbert of Ellenton, Fla., and John Gilbert of Rensselaer;
  two sisters, Ruby E. Waldon of Rensselaer and Mary Ellen Johnson of
  Castlewood; four granddaughters; a grandson; and six great-grandchildren.
  Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. in Combs Funeral Service
  in Lebanon. The Rev. Orbie Porter will officiate. Burial will be in Russell Memorial
  Cemetery in Lebanon, Va.
  Mr. Gilbert was also preceded in death by two sisters; and two brothers.
  Among survivors are daughter-in-law Diane Gilbert of Remington; granddaughters
  Lisa Althoff, Kim Gilbert, Alicia DeHaven and Laura Baker; and grandson Scott
  Gilbert.

  Rensselaer and visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday in Combs

  Milton Jere Green

  A memorial service for former Col. Milton Jere Green, U.S. Marine Corps, will be
  conducted Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in B'Nai Shalom Synagouge, 2510 Highway
  126 in Bristol. His ashes will be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery.
  Mr. Green, 87, of 33 Wellington, Bristol, Tenn., died Monday, May 1, 2000, at
  home.
  He was born in St. Louis, Mo., a son of the late Jennie Palkes Green and Nathan
  Goldfarb. He graduated from Tennessee High School in 1929, and from the
  University of Virginia Law School in 1936. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps
  in 1941 as a second lieutenant, joining the 2nd Division. He served as a brigade
  commander motor transport in the South Pacific during World War II. In Tinian,
  he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was
  honorably discharged in 1946, and became a life member of the Marine Corps
  Reserve Officers Association. His medals include the American Defense Service
  Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the
  Victory Medal World War II, the Bronze Star Medal and three bronze stars.
  Mr. Green returned to Bristol in 1950 as general manager of Twin City Auto
  Parts. He later founded Speed Clip, a wheel-weights business that is now owned
  and operated by Exide Corp. He later expanded his business interests to England,
  France and South Africa.
  Surviving are three daughters, Susan Wittman of Pembroke Pines, Fla., Virginia
  Green of New York City and Constance Kuhlman of Bristol Tennessee; and three
  grandchildren, Rebecca Sgan-Cohen of Brooklyn, N.Y., Gabriel Wittman of
  Miami, Fla., and Ephraim Wittman of Pembroke Pines, Fla.
  Mr. Green's mother and stepfather, Thomas Julian Green, lived in Bristol for 81
  years. His father died when Milton was a baby.
  Mr. Green fought in the Battle of Tarawa, the first American offensive against the
  Japenese-controlled Pacific Islands in November of 1942. It was the first
  amphibious landing against a heavily fortified objective and one of the bloodiest in
  Marine history - there were about 1,000 casualties a day in three days of fighting.
  He was sent back to the United States and two months later was called back to
  frontline duty to serve on Gen. Douglas MacArthur's staff in the Phillipines. His job
  under MacArthur was to plan the transport//logistics for the invasion of Japan. This
  was obviated by then-President Harry Truman's decision to drop the A-bomb.
  Mr. Green later said that Truman's courageous decision saved thousands of Allied
  lives.
  He was an active supporter of local and international charities, for which he was
  recognized here and abroad.

  He was born in Buchanan County, Va., a son of the late William and Minnie
  Wilson McGlothlin. A farmer, Mr. McGlothlin lived in Russell County most of his
  life.
  Surviving are his wife, Edith Mae McGlothlin; two daughters, Linda Gay Couch of
  Lebanon and Brenda Fay Lambert of Honaker; two sons, Harry C. McGlothlin
  and Jimmy C. McGlothlin, both of Honaker; a brother, Clarence McGlothlin of
  Honaker, 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

  Miss O'Dell, 85, of the Emmett Community of Sullivan County, died Monday,

  She was born in Blountville, a daughter of the late John Edward O'Dell and Ella
  Morton O'Dell. She was a retired teacher in Sullivan County at Blountville
  Elementary and Emmett Elementary with 44 years of service. She was a member
  of Blountville Presbyterian Church, the Sullivan County Retired Teachers
  Association and the Sullivan County Democratic Womens Club.
  Surviving are three nephews, John O'Dell and Tom O'Dell, both of Nashville, and
  Robert "Bob" O'Dell of Bristol Tennessee; five nieces, Sarah Dyer of Nashville,
  Sue O'Dell of Blountville, Sarah Evans and Mary Arnold, both of Rogersville,
  Tenn., and Margaret "Peggy" O'Dell of Bristol Tennessee; and several
  great-nieces and great-nephews.
  Miss O'Dell was also preceded in death by five brothers, John Ed O'Dell, Dehart
  O'Dell, George O'Dell, Robert O'Dell and Joseph O'Dell.

  was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a retired coal miner, a
  member of UMWA Local 1568 and the widower of Rushie Potter Stump.

  Mile Ford, Va., Lorine Cook of Dandridge, Tenn., and Sherry Hurley of Kemper,

  granddaughters; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.

  ABINGDON -- Sylvia B. Barber, 84, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, in
  Johnston Memorial Hospital.
  She was born in Premier, W.Va., and had lived most of her life in Welch, W.Va.
  She had lived in Abingdon for the past 20 years.
  She was employed with Welch Hospital as a nurse for several years and was a
  member of the Missionary Baptist Church of Welch. She was the widow of Kyle
  B. Barber.
  Surviving are a son, Lloyd Travis Barbour of Elmore, Ala.; three daughters, Mrs.
  Basil (Janice) Gross of Karnack, Texas, Mrs. Wilson (Wanda) Cantrell of Raysal,
  W.Va., and Lois Jean Hornbarger of Mechanicsville, Va.; a brother, Edward B.
  Branch of Phoenix City, Ala.; two sisters, Goldie G. Saunders of Oklahoma City
  and Ollie Cook of Bristol Tennessee; 15 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren;
  and three great-great-grandchildren.
  Mrs. Barber was preceded in death by Rodana Boyd and Zane Cecil Grey,
  children she had raised.

  Mary's Hospital, Wise ARH and Wise Heritage Hall and was co-owner of Jimmie
  Royce Beverly Trucking. She was the widow of Jimmie Royce Beverly.

  EAST STONE GAP - Robert Earl "Robbie" Fox, 30, died Tuesday, May 2,

  He was a lifelong resident of East Stone Gap, a son of Betty and Jack Fox of East
  Stone Gap and a 1987 graduate of Powell Valley High School. He was a lab
  technician with Coastal Coal Co. in Coeburn and attended Durham's Chapel
  Church in Crackers Neck.
  Surviving, besides his parents, are his wife, Stacey Robbins Fox; a brother, Fred
  Fox of East Stone Gap; a sister, Leslie fox of Wytheville; maternal grandparents,
  Joe and Jewell Boggs of Wise; and a nephew.

  Ruby Wisdom Harrington, 95, of Bristol Tennessee, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000,
  in Wellmont Hospice House.
  A lifelong resident of Bristol, she was a daughter of the late Shedrick Watkins
  Wisdom and Mary Gillespie Wisdom and the widow of E.A. Harrington. She was
  a member of Lee Street Baptist Church, where she was president of the Pastor's
  Aid Club and past president of the Nannie Burroughs Circle.
  Surviving are a sister, Eleanor Wisdom Garnette of Petersburg, Va.; a brother,
  Robert Widsom of Riviera Beach, Fla.; seven nieces; five nephews; and several
  grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
  A special memorial service will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in Lee Street
  Baptist Church. Dr. W.A. Johnson, and the Revs. Raymond Dickerson and James
  McDaniel will officiate. Burial will be private.

  PINEY FLATS -- Bill E. Napier, 64, of 1983 Allison Road, died Wednesday,
  May 3, 2000, in Johnson City Medical Center.
  He was born in Wise County, a son of the late Ted and Ethel Pauline Napier. He
  had lived in Michigan off and on for about 40 years. For the past six years he had
  lived in Piney Flats, where he was a member of Rock Springs Missionary Baptist
  Church.
  Surviving are his wife, Karla Marie Napier; two daughters, Jennifer Colleen
  Edwards and Katie Joy Edwards, both of Kalamazoo, Mich.; five sisters, Betty
  Gwisdalla of Hazel Park, Mich., Peggy VandenBosh of Dryden, Mich., Millie
  Stamat of Clawson, Mich., Lois Ann Owens of Warren, Mich., and Mary
  Thompson of San Antonio, Texas; three brothers, Bob Napier of Warren, John
  Napier of Hazel Park and Teddy Ray Napier of Marquette, Mich.; and several
  nieces and nephews.
  Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Snyder's
  Funeral Home. The Revs. Claude Pennington of Rock Springs Baptist Church,
  Richard Fenner of Kalamazoo and Richard Meade, Outreach Minister of River of

  Mr. Napier was also preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Napier; and two
  sisters, Edna Ruth Bowman and Margaret Louise Jenkins.
  He was an accomplished guitarist, songwriter and entertainer for many years,
  specializing in playing the mandolin. He played with Carter and Ralph Stanley, The
  Stanley Brothers, from 1957-60. He partnered with Charlie Moore and The Dixie
  Brothers from 1960-65. He was a special guest at the Grand Ole Opry several
  times in the 60s. He received and accepted a special invitation to play at
  Constitution Hall for then President Lyndon B. Johnson in the mid- 60s. He also
  participated in song and testimony in the music ministry for the past 11 years with
  his wife.
  Pallbearers will be friends, Wayne Mullins, Dennis Cochran, Jimmy Deel, Danny
  Boyd, Ricky Milhorn and Lawrence Winstead. Honorary pallbearers will be

  Elementary and Emmett Elementary with 44 years of service. She was a member

  Association and the Sullivan County Democratic Womens Club.
  Surviving are three nephews, John O'Dell and Tom O'Dell, both of Nashville, and
  Robert "Bob" O'Dell of Bristol Tennessee; five nieces, Sarah Dyer of Nashville,
  Sue O'Dell of Blountville, Sarah Evans and Mary Arnold, both of Rogersville,
  Tenn., and Margaret "Peggy" O'Dell of Bristol Tennessee; and several
  great-nieces and great-nephews.

  Mary P. Leonard

  LEBANON -- Mary Ethel Price Leonard, 93, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000.
  She was a lifelong resident of Russell County and the widow of her husband of 51
  years, Joe Leonard. She was a member of Elk Garden United Methodist Church
  for 70 years and a former member of Bascom United Methodist Church. She was
  a member of the United Methodist Women, Extension Homemakers Club, Elk
  Garden PTA, 4-H Volunteer Leaders, a Russell County Fair volunteer and a
  Sunday School teacher.
  She was a graduate of Lebanon High School and attended Radford College. She
  was a retired school teacher, teaching at Elk Garden, The Corner, Lebanon,
  Honaker, Richlands and Bascom Schools.
  Surviving are two sons, Bob Leonard of Fincastle, Va., and David Leonard of
  Lebanon; a sister, Jessie P. Martin of Lebanon; three grandsons, Robbie Leonard,
  Joe Leonard and David Leonard II, all of Lebanon; a granddaughter, Sarah B.
  Leonard of Lebanon; five great-grandchildren, Ransom Leonard, Taylor Leonard,
  Julie Ellen Leonard, Jacob Leonard and Michael Leonard; and 15 nieces and
  nephews.
  Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Elk Garden United
  Methodist Church by Lebanon Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul Hite will officiate.
  Burial will be in Russell Memorial Cemetery.
  Mrs. Leonard was also preceded in death by two brothers, Curtis and Bert Price;
  and a sister, Hazel P. Martin.
  Among survivors are daughters-in-law Nancy Leonard of Fincastle and Mary
  Leonard of Lebanon; granddaughters-in-law Beth Leonard, Virginia Lynn
  Leonard, both of Lebanon; sister-in-law Eva Leonard; and a special friend, Ida
  Rose Conley.

  Cecil G. Lethcoe Sr.

  ABINGDON -- Cecil G. Lethcoe Sr., 64, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at
  home.
  He was born in Washington County, Va. He had lived in several other areas
  before returning to Abingdon.
  Surviving are three sons, Cecil G. "Danny" Lethcoe Jr. of Dade City, Fla., Allen
  Lethcoe of Abingdon and Dwane Lethcoe of Bean Station, Tenn.; a daughter,
  Lynne DeBusk of Abingdon; a stepdaughter, Kathy Whitley of Texas; two
  brothers, Johnny Moore and Bud Moore, both of Abingdon; a sister, Janice; four
  grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
  Graveside services will be conducted Saturday at 4 p.m. in Forest Hills Memory
  Gardens by Farris Funeral Service. The Rev. Kenneth Widner will officiate.

  Fred W. Light

  KINGSPORT -- Fred Winifred Light, 72, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at
  home.
  He was born in Sullivan County, Tenn., a son of the late Joseph Orgie and Hannah
  Hite Light. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean war, serving three years.
  He was employed with Kingsport Press for 37 years before his retirement. He
  was a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church.
  Surviving are his wife of 48 years, June Kiser Light; two sons, Fred Light Jr. of
  Belmont, N.C., and Jimmy Light of Kingsport; two sisters, Imogene Strickler of
  Kingsport and Peggy Jordan of Ohio; two brothers, Ramon Light of Frankford,
  Ind., and Maynard Light of Clinton, Tenn.; two grandchildren; three
  great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
  Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 8 p.m. in Colonial Heights Baptist
  Church by East Lawn Funeral Home. The Revs. Ronald Hicks and Roland Brown
  will officiate. Music will be by Colonial Heights Baptist Church. Graveside services
  will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in East Lawn Memorial Park.
  Mr. Light was also preceded in death by three brothers, Herman, Howard and
  Lloyd Light.

  Kingsport; grandchildren Andria Bloomquist and Courtney Light; and
  great-grandchildren Alex Light, Kaitin Bloomquist and Konner Bloomquist.

  Miss O'Dell, 85, of the Emmett Community of Sullivan County, died Monday,
  May 1, 2000, at home.
  She was born in Blountville, a daughter of the late John Edward O'Dell and Ella
  Morton O'Dell. She was a retired teacher in Sullivan County at Blountville
  Elementary and Emmett Elementary with 44 years of service. She was a member
  of Blountville Presbyterian Church, the Sullivan County Retired Teachers
  Association and the Sullivan County Democratic Womens Club.
  Surviving are three nephews, John O'Dell and Tom O'Dell, both of Nashville, and
  Robert "Bob" O'Dell of Bristol Tennessee; five nieces, Sarah Dyer of Nashville,
  Sue O'Dell of Blountville, Sarah Evans and Mary Arnold, both of Rogersville,
  Tenn., and Margaret "Peggy" O'Dell of Bristol Tennessee; and several
  great-nieces and great-nephews.
  Miss O'Dell was also preceded in death by five brothers, John Ed O'Dell, Dehart
  O'Dell, George O'Dell, Robert O'Dell and Joseph O'Dell.

  Mr. Owens, 71, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at home.
  He was born in Dickenson County, a son of the late Walter and Barbara Owens.
  He was a member of UMWA Harmon Local 7025 and Harmon Memorial Baptist
  Church. Most recently, he worked as a coal truck driver.
  Surviving are his wife, Ruth J. Owens; two daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Nancy)
  Edwards of Brichleaf, Va., and Mrs. Samuel (Dianna) McNutt of Bristol Virginia;
  two sons, Bruce Owens of Birchleaf and Blaine Owens of Newcastle, Va.; a
  brother, Frenchman Owens of Abingdon; two sisters, Oma Deel and Flora Deel,
  both of Haysi; and three grandchildren.
  Mr. Owens was also preceded in death by a son, James Walter Owens.

  she was of the Freewill Baptist faith and the widow of Aubrey Taylor.
  Surviving are three sons, William C. Taylor of Wise and James E. Taylor and
  Kenneth D. Taylor, both of Manassas, Va.; a daughter, Rena F. Willis of
  Manassas; a brother, Richard Pilkenton of Wise; a sister, Freda Moon of
  Gastonia, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and
  nephews.

  Citizens Club. She was the widow of John R. Williams.
  Surviving are three daughters, Joyce Williams of Elizabethton, Hazel Steffey of
  Bristol Tennessee and Margaret Meade of Duffield, Va.; a sister, Sara Williams of
  Elizabethton; six grandsons; nine great-grandchildren; three
  step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

  Mr. Witcher, 94, of 415 Booher Drive, Bristol, Tenn., died Wednesday, May 3,
  2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
  A lifelong resident of Sullivan County, he retired with 40 years of service with
  Henley and Gillespie Electrical Contractors. He was a member of the IBEW Local
  934 and the widower of Janie Belle Witcher.
  He was a former deacon and member of Weaver Union Church and a charter
  member of Beidleman Presbyterian Church.
  Surviving are a son, Joe Witcher of Bristol Tennessee; several nieces and
  nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and several great-great-nieces
  and great-great-nephews.
  Mr. Witcher was also preceded in death by a son, George Witcher.
  Among survivors are daughters-in-law Wanda Witcher and Bonnie Witcher, both
  of Bristol Tennessee.
