                          TERESA MARIE LEWIS BURKS

Teresa Marie Lewis Burks, 74, loving mother to her three children and
devoted wife to her best friend and husband, Jim, went to her heavenly
home on the wings of her guardian angel on Friday, May 3, 2002.

A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, in Johnsons Funeral
Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 9, at
Holy Angels Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Greenwell
officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

Teresa was born Feb. 15, 1928, in Camden, N.J., to Henry Joseph and
Marie Margaret Lewis. After graduating from high school, Teresa
attended Misericordia School of Nursing, obtaining a certificate of
Registered Nurse. She then went to Peoria, Ill., to further her
nursing education and obtained her Certified Registered Nurse
   Anesthetist certificate.

In September 1951, after finishing her education, Teresa enlisted in
the Army Nurse Corps as a first lieutenant. Her first duty assignment
was Camp Crowder, Mo. From there, the Army Nurse Corps sent Teresa to
Tripler General Hospital, Oahu, Territory of Hawaii. This is where
Teresa met Tech Sgt. James Walter Burks. The two were married March 7,
1953, at Hickam Air Base, Hawaii. After a brief honeymoon, Teresa
ended her career in the Army Nurse Corps, and became a full time wife,
   mother and nurse.

Teresas total support to her husbands military career of 27 years led
her into many different aspects of the nursing field in many areas of
the world. After her husbands retirement on Oct. 1, 1973, from the
U.S. Air Force, the couple settled in San Angelo, Texas. At this time
Teresa resumed her career as a nurse anesthetist at Shannon Memorial
Hospital. Upon leaving Shannon, she continued her career as a charge
nurse at San Angelo State School. After many years of service, Teresa
retired from the state and joined the staff at Hospice of San Angelo
as a registered nurse. Upon leaving Hospice of San Angelo, Teresa had
   completed a 51-year nursing career.

As a caregiver, her patients were always treated with dignity,
respect, kindness, and a gentle, loving touch. Her ability to conquer
and overcome any obstacle was amazing. Her ability to teach and share
her knowledge with others was always an asset to the receiver.

Her presence on this earth will be missed by all whose life she
touched. All she was, all she did was always done to the glory of her
Lord, and the profound love she had for her country, family, friends,
   and patients.

Teresa is survived by her loving husband, James Walter Burks, Chief
Master Sgt. (Ret.) of the home; one son, James Henry Burks and wife,
Joy Bell, of Kaysville, Utah; a daughter, Marie Teresa Harris of San
Angelo and youngest daughter, Cecilia Anne Janicata, and husband,

Anne Harris, both San Angelo, and Delaney Megan Aaran Burks of

Obituaries

                          TERESA MARIE LEWIS BURKS

Teresa Marie Lewis Burks, 74, loving mother to her three children and
devoted wife to her best friend and husband, Jim, went to her heavenly
home on the wings of her guardian angel on Friday, May 3, 2002.

A rosary was said at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, in Johnsons Funeral Home
Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 9, at Holy
Angels Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Greenwell officiating.

In September 1951, after finishing her education, Teresa joined the
Army Nurse Corps as a first lieutenant. Her first duty assignment was
Camp Crowder, Mo.

Angelo and youngest daughter, Cecilia Anne Janicata, and husband,
Jerry, of San Angelo; four granddaughters, Elizabeth Burks Bailey and

Anne Harris, both San Angelo, and Delaney Megan Aaran Burks of

   of Montgomery, Ala.

House. A special thank you goes to a personal friend and professional
colleague, Vayden Stanley M.D. Each and every one of you showed
