Obituaries

                           EDWARD HUDSON KERR SR.

Edward Hudson Kerr Sr. passed away at 1:25 a.m. on Oct. 6, 2001, at
the age of 75. He was born Sept. 7, 1926, in El Paso, Texas, and was
the son of Josephine Robinson Kerr and Joe Kerr Sr. of Sanderson,
   Texas.

Visitation is from 4 to 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at Johnsons Funeral
Home. Funeral service will be at 5 p.m. Monday in Johnsons Funeral
Home Chapel. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, in Cedar
   Grove Cemetery, Sanderson.

Edward attended schools in Sanderson, Texas, St. Marys University in
San Antonio, Texas, Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Okla., and
the University of Texas in Austin. He entered the Army Air Corps in
1946, serving until 1950. He then returned to Sanderson to operate his
Magnolia business and work in the hardware department of Kerr
   Mercantile Co.

On Aug. 4, 1953, Edward married Rosella Mitchell in Fort Stockton,
Texas. In 1954, he became vice president and manager of the Kerr
Mercantile Co. and soon became president/manager. In addition, he
began service as the manager of the Kerr Trust Partnership. With his
added responsibilities, he sold the Magnolia business. He was
   beginning his truly busy life.

In 1957, Edward added on to the Mercantile building and had the Texaco
station built. In time, the Oak Street property had new fronts, the
Texaco wholesale was built and the Ford Motor Co. building was also
built. In 1959, the new elementary school was built and Edward was
appointed to serve on the school board for a year. He also served on
the Equalization Board, as president of the Terrell County Water Board
and served as a director for the Sanderson State Bank. He was a member
of the American Legion, Post 0572, of San Angelo, Texas.

Edward pioneered the use of submersible electric pumps in deep water
wells. Even Jacuzzi, pump manufacturer in Little Rock, Ark., was
doubtful it would work, but it did and another leap in responsibility
   was taken.

Edward retired in 1984, leaving most of his responsibilities to two of
his sons, Edward Hudson Kerr Jr. and Timothy James Kerr.

Edward was preceded in death by a baby sister, Mamie Dewees Kerr; his
   parents; two brothers, Campbell Robinson Kerr and James Richmond Kerr;
and a son, William Mitchell Kerr.

He is survived by one brother, Joe Kerr Jr.; a sister, Betty Jo Kerr
Moberly; his wife, Rosella Mitchell Kerr; five children and their
families; Rosalie Kerr Johnson, Hudson and Maggie Kerr, Jeanette Kerr
Zachary and Wayne Zachary, Tim and Beth Kerr, and Thomas George and
Amy Eggemeyer Kerr. There are eight grandchildren, Mendy and Michelle
Johnson, Meagan and Jerad Zachary, Edward H. Kerr III, Banner Joe
Kerr, Audrey Rose and William Thomas Kerr. Also surviving are two
very, very special people, Mary and Ray Fitzgerald, who loved the
family, sustained them and could never do enough for them.

The family is also very appreciative of Dr. Charles M. Jones and his
staff, Dora Bryant who nursed him so gently and kept him in good
spirits, Hospice of San Angelo, Glen Meadows Baptist Church, Holy
Angels Catholic Church and Harriet Sansone, who all ministered such
wonderful solace and care of the familys souls.

Edward was a devoted Christian, husband, father and grandfather. He
loved music and stories of days past. His children and their families
were each very special to him and he enjoyed entertaining them with
those two loves. Most revered and remembered by them is his great love
of life, laughter, teasing, warm ever-caring fatherly spirit, strength
of character, strong shoulders of burden and work ethic. There are no
adequate words to convey how much he really loved all of his family,
   friends and country.

Honorary pallbearers are all of his special relatives and friends.

                       NELLIE BORRON McDURMON NEWCOMB

CRANE Nellie Borron McDurmon Newcomb was born in 1909 in Butler, Mo.,
to Maria Elizabeth and Edward Barron Borron. They moved their family
to Imperial, Texas, in 1915 to become farmers when Nellie was 6 years
old, where she resided most of her life. She earned her bachelors
degree from Sul Ross University and taught school in excess of 39
years; one year in Fort Stockton, 33 years in Buena Vista/Imperial,
and five years in the Midland school districts, plus relieving in
various vacancies in the Grandfalls school system. She truly loved
every student she ever had and always saw their potential. Her
students endearingly referred to her as Miss Nellie. She was not
prejudiced; she believed Acts 17:26 that God made the whole human race
from one blood and each person was special to the Creator. After
retirement, she continued use of her teaching skills as adult
education teacher in Imperial preparing adults for their GEDs.

As a young girl, she committed her life to Jesus Christ. For years,
she had been a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Imperial.

In 1929, she was married to China McDurmon who preceded her in death
in 1964. She was also preceded in death by her parents and three
brothers, Merle Borron and Arthur Borron, both of Imperial, and Don
Borron of Kingsland. In 1967, she married Robert Houston Newcomb who
also preceded her in death. She is survived by five children and five
stepchildren: Patsy Six of Plains, Gerry King and Marsha McDurmon,
both of Odessa, Glenda Akins of Stanton, Ronnie McDurmon of Sherman,
Jim Newcomb of Oklahoma City, Okla., Robert Newcomb of Guthrie, Okla.,
Charlie Newcomb of Skiatook, Okla., Donny Newcomb of Yukon, Okla., and
Anita Myers of Bethany, Okla.; 27 grandchildren, 49
   great-grandchildren and 10 great-great- grandchildren.

She was a very resourceful woman. She believed that work was honorable
and gave a full days work for a days pay. She was very artistic; her
left-handed penmanship was like a beautiful work of art. She took art
lessons when she was 50 years old, leaving her family with some
treasured oil paintings. Her knuckles were gnarled from arthritis, yet
the touch or pat of her hand was gentle and loving and reassuring. The
sweet smiling blink of her eyes, along with the slight nod of her head
at the same time, was her way of giving a loving hug without invading
your space. She was always kind and gracious and fair. She never tried
to get something for nothing, knowing that for everything someone had
to pay the price. She always focused on the good in people and the
beauty in things rather than the bad and the ugly. She was humbled by
an awareness than any strength she had, as well as any potential she
possessed, was only a loan from God to whom she would one day give an
account. When the going got tough, she got tougher. No . . . she wasnt
perfect, but she strove to follow Gods leading not to conform to this
world but to be transformed into the likeness of His dear Son, Jesus
Christ. She steered her life in that direction and never changed her
course. She knew how to forgive because she had experienced Gods
forgiveness. She began her talks with God as, Our gracious Heavenly
Father, we come to you as humbly as we know how. She once told her
daughter when she had a hard time going to sleep, she would picture in
her mind the first street in town and begin to pray for each family,
then move on to the next street and do the same. She trusted God in
circumstances over which she had no control and in situations which
she did not understand because she knew He was faithful! THANK YOU
LORD JESUS FOR GIVING US SUCH A MOTHER!

Nellie departed this earth and went to spend eternity with her Creator
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Oct. 6, 2001 at 3:30 p.m. from the
home of her son-in-law and daughter, Bill and Glenda Akins in Stanton.
Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at the Old
Community House in Imperial, followed by burial in the Imperial
Cemetery. Family members request that memorials in her memory be given
to any of the following: First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 100, Imperial,
TX 79743; Sherwood Christian Academy, P.O. Box 13448, Odessa, TX
79768-3448; or Hospice of Midland Inc., P.O. Box 2621, Midland, TX
   79702.

   God Saw You

   God saw you getting tired

And a cure was not to be,

So He put His arms around you

   And whispered, Come to me.

With tearful eyes, we watched you

   And saw you pass away.

And though we loved you dearly,

We could not make you stay.

   A golden heart stopped beating,

   Hard-working hands at rest.

God broke our hearts to prove to us,

   He only takes the best.

To Those I Love and Those Who Love Me

When I am gone, release me, let me go

I have so many things to see and do.

You mustnt tie yourself to me with tears,

Be happy that we had so many years.

I gave you my love, you can only guess

How much you gave to me in happiness.

I thank you for the love you each have shown,

But now its time I traveled on alone.

So grieve awhile for me if grieve you must,

Then let your grief be comforted by trust.

Its only for awhile that we must part,

So keep the memories within your heart.

   I wont be far away, for life goes on;

So, if you need me, call and I will come.

Though you cant see or touch me,

   Ill be near

And if you listen with your heart, youll hear

All of my love around you soft and dear.

And then when you must come this way alone,

Ill greet you with a smile,

   And say, Welcome Home.

   Tears when we cry-

Oh how well miss you so.

So how do you say goodbye?

We write you these words today

From the love of the heart

   Oh Lord show us mercy

For now we live so far apart.
