   ROBERT  LEE  Olvia  Dutch  Brown,  90,  died  Thursday, June 14, 2001.

Obituaries

                          AUDRELL O.Z. LITTLEFIELD
   
   Audrell  O.Z.  Littlefield,  83, a longtime resident of Bronte and San
   Angelo, died on Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at his residence.
   
   Audrell  was  born  Sept.  12, 1917, 50 miles from Lovington, N.M., to
   O.Z. and Bertie Littlefield.
   
   He married Marceill Bell on May 18, 1943.
   
   Audrell  worked  for  the  Texas  Predatory  Control in Crane for four
   years; at Camp Barclay in Abilene; the North Concho Dam for 27 months;
   and  the  San  Angelo  Fire  Department  for  23  years.  Prior to his
   retirement,  he  worked  19  years  for Wilbur Anderson. He bought the
   family farm in Bronte, where he raised cattle.
   
   He  was  preceded  in  death  by  his  parents;  his wife of 44 years,
   Marceill,  on Aug. 3, 1987; two sons, Willard Wayne Spunky Littlefield
   and  Robert Randall Littlefield; a sister, Violet Self; and a brother,
   Elgin Littlefield.
   
   Audrell  is  survived  by  four children, Zoe E. Marshall and husband,
   Ken,  of Florida, Audrell Monroe Jr. Littlefield and wife, Carolyn, of
   San  Angelo,  Violet Jeannie Littlefield of San Angelo and Delores Dee
   Ferguson and husband, David, of Ballinger.
   
   He  also  is  survived  by  20  grandchildren, Sharon Zertucha, Connie
   McCulla,  Theresa  Abers,  Dorothy Willis, Rosa Sims, Johnny Reid, Zoe
   Anna  Parker,  Ranae Mantz, Lynn Richeler, Audrey Kaffman, Tina Lange,
   Butch  Ferguson,  Lisa  New, Michael Ferguson, Trina Donaldson, Marsha
   Jones,  Lee  Littlefield, Monroe Littlefield, Tammy Littlefield, Shawn
   Littlefield   and  Becky  Littlefield;  one  sister,  Peggy  Phillips;
   numerous  great-grandchildren  and  great-grandchildren;  and  special
   friends, Opal Hoffman and Margie Searcy.
   
   Graveside  service  will  be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 16, in Fairview
   Cemetery  in  Bronte officiated by Bobby Jones. Arrangements are under
   the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.
   
   Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 15.
   
                            SOLEDAD M. MENCHACA
   
   Soledad M. Menchaca, 81, of San Angelo passed away Wednesday, June 13,
   2001, in a local hospital.
   
   Rosary  will  be  at  7 p.m. Friday, June 15, in Johnsons Funeral Home
   Chapel. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June
   16,  at  St.  Marys  Catholic  Church.  Burial  will follow in Calvary
   Cemetery.
   
   Soledad  was  born  Jan.  5,  1920,  to  Reyes and Ramona Muela in San
   Angelo.  She married Elias Menchaca June 19, 1936, in San Angelo. Mrs.
   Menchaca was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church.
   
   She  was  preceded  in  death by her parents; husband; and one sister,
   Lola Rios. Survivors include five sons and daughters-in-law, Elias and
   Peggy  Menchaca  of  Houston,  Sam  and Marilyn Menchaca and Reyes and
   Angie  Menchaca,  all of San Angelo, Robert and Debbie Menchaca of Las
   Vegas  and  Eddie  and  Sharon  Menchaca of Odessa; five daughters and
   sons-in-law,  Elodia  and  Albert  Garza,  Enriqueta  and Martin Rios,
   Amanda  and Manuel Gonzales, Ramona and Gumesindo Garcia and Christina
   and  Antonio Suarez, all of San Angelo; 34 grandchildren; and numerous
   great-grandchildren great-great-grandchildren.
   
   Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
   
   The  family  wishes  to  express its deep appreciation to Girling Home
   Health, Dr. Carmichael and Janice.

   HELEN OVERHOLSER TURN
   
   SAN  ANGELO  Helen  Overholser  Turn, 78, of San Angelo passed away on
   Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at the Bronte Health & Rehab Center.
   
   Helen was born May 23, 1923, to Weaver O. and Hazel Lovell Overholser,
   in  Ranger,  moving  with  her  parents  to  San  Angelo  in 1927. She
   graduated  from  high school on May 23, 1940, and married Claude Oscar
   Wayne Turn on June 30, 1941, in San Angelo.
   
   She worked as a secretary for Turn Plumbing & Heating for more than 15
   years,  but  the job shes most remembered for is being a homemaker and
   always being there.
   
   Helen  was  preceded  in death by her husband, Wayne; her parents; and
   one sister, Nina Huntley of San Angelo.
   
   She  is  survived  by  two  children, Sandra Katherine Jackson and her
   husband,  Weaver  of  San  Antonio and Jerry Wayne Turn of San Angelo;
   three  grandsons,  Mark Lee Jackson of Nevada; Jerry Wayne Turn Jr. of
   Charleston,  S.C.;  and  Richard  Lewis  Turn  and  wife,  Leslie,  of
   Richmond,  Va.;  and  two  sisters,  Billie  Gene  Malone and husband,
   Kenneth,  of  San  Angelo  and  Margaret  Anne  Cusenbary and husband,
   Charles Lee, of San Antonio.
   
   Arrangements are by Shaffer Funeral Home.
   
                              OTIS GLYNN BABB
   
   MIDLAND  Otis Glynn Babb, 75, went home to the Lord to see his family,
   his loving brother and brother-in-law, on Wednesday, June 13, 2001.
   
   He  fought  long  and  hard to stay with his family. Glynn came from a
   ranching family and continued ranching most of his life.
   
   Glynn  was born Nov. 28, 1925, in Lordsburg, N.M., to Coleman and Mary
   Diane Babb. He married Lelia Stewart on Jan. 4, 1958.
   
   He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Babb; mother and father,
   Coleman and Mary Diane Babb; and his son, Lynn Babb-Rainey.
   
   He  is  survived  by his wife, Lelia Babb of Stanton; brother, Coleman
   Babb  of San Angelo; and his children, Richard Rainey and wife, Kathy,
   of  Marathon, Glynn Rainey and wife, Sandy, of Tarpley, Doyle Babb and
   wife,  Cindy  of  Ozona; daughter, Christye Gober and husband, Coy, of
   Big  Spring;  stepsons,  Jerry Collier of Stanton, Darrell Collier and
   wife,  Adrienne of Liberty Hill; grandchildren, Clint Rainey and wife,
   Julie,  of San Angelo; Brandy Rainey of Austin; Cody Rainey of Uvalde,
   Nikki  Rainey  of  Uvalde,  Lynn Babb of Ozona, Layne Babb of Stanton,
   Glynn Collier of Liberty Hill, Creig and Case Gober of Big Spring; and
   numerous nieces and nephews.
   
   Graveside  service  will  be  at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 16, in Marathon
   Cemetery  in  Marathon.  Arrangements  are  by Pipkin Funeral Home and
   Chapel.
   
   The  family  wishes  to  thank  Hospice  for  all  the loving care and
   especially to Belinda, for her love and care.
   
   Pallbearers  will  be Cody Rainey, Clint Rainey, Layne Babb, Coy Gober

   LUBBOCK  Graveside  service for Aubrey Carroll, 83, of Lubbock will be
   at  10  a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2001, in Resthaven Cemetery in McCamey
   with  Sheldon Johnson officiating. Local arrangements are by Resthaven
   Funeral Home.
   
   Aubrey  passed  away  Tuesday,  June 12, 2001, in Lubbock. He was born
   June  11,  1918,  in  Quanah,  Texas. He was a graduate of Quanah High
   School Aubrey was active in civic duties, some of which included Lions
   Club,  Chamber  of  Commerce  in  McCamey  and  Bridge  Club. He was a
   resident  of  McCamey  from 1957-1987, where he worked with West Texas
   Utilities  at  Rio Pecos Station in Girvin from 1957-1987. He received
   the  George  B.  McCamey award for three years and was active with the
   Methodist  Men  and  taught  Sunday  school  at First United Methodist
   Church in McCamey.
   
   Survivors include his wife, Jean of Lubbock; son, James Aubrey Carroll
   Jr.  of  Carenage,  Trinidad,  West Indies; daughter, Pat Blackwell of
   Lubbock;  four  sisters,  Jean Malone of Clovis, N.M., Lorie Nelson of
   Palm Springs, Calif., Marie Bennett of Upland, Calif., and Fran Deigan
   of    Lake    Elsinore,    Calif.;   six   grandchildren;   and   nine
   great-grandchildren.
   
   He  was  preceded  in death by a son, Mike Carroll, who passed away in
   1973.
   
   The  family  suggests  memorials  to  First United Methodist Church in
   McCamey.

                             ROBERT D. JOHNSON
   
   Lt. Col. (retired) Robert D. Bob Johnson, a former resident of Sonora,
   died  June  13,  2001,  in  Corpus Christi, where he had resided since
   1973.
   
   He  joined  the United States Army Air Corps as an enlisted man during
   the  Depression,  received  his  commission  during  World  War II and
   retired  from  the  Air  Force in 1963. Col. Johnson flew B-24 bombers
   during  the  war  and other aircraft thereafter and served in numerous
   assignments  throughout  the  United  States  and  Europe  in a career
   spanning  more  than  30  years.  Bob  served as manager of the Sonora
   Chamber  of  Commerce,  the Federal Commodities Program and the Sonora
   branch of the Murphy Flying School during his residence there.
   
   He  is  survived  by  his wife of 61 years, Frances W. Johnson; a son,
   Robert D. Johnson Jr.; three grandsons; and a great-granddaughter.
   
   Interment  will  be  at  1  p.m. Tuesday, June 19, in Fort Sam Houston
   Cemetery in San Antonio.

                          EUGENE L. BUDDY LANGLEY
   
   IRVING  Eugene  L.  Buddy  Langley  was born Aug. 23, 1924, in Beaver,
   Okla.  He  passed  away June 13, 2001, in Baylor Medical Center-Irving
   after an extended battle with Parkinsons Disease.
   
   He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Alena Dottie Langley; two sons
   and  daughters-in-law,  Larry  E. and Cathy Langley of Temple Terrace,
   Fla.,  and Danny F. and Terri Langley of Grapevine; one granddaughter,
   Michelle  Tallent  of  Temple  Terrace;  four grandsons, Colt Franklin
   Langley,  Rhett  Thomas  Langley, Trent Loyle Langley and Wyatt Daniel
   Langley,  all  of  Grapevine; two great-granddaughters, Hannah Estelle
   Tallent and Rebecca Grace Tallent, both of Temple Terrace; two nieces,
   Wanita  Maynard of Beaver, Okla., and Janice Mallard of Wimberley; two
   cousins,  Bobby  Wellman  of  Guymon,  Okla.,  and Avanell Mitchell of
   Liberal, Kan.
   
   Buddy  was  a  graduate  of Beaver (Okla.) High School and served four
   years  in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II. He continued
   his  adult  education  at  the University of Kansas, the University of
   Wyoming, New York University and Columbia University.
   
   He  began  his  41-year  telephone career as a lineman with GTE of the
   Southwest  in  Beaver  in 1948. He served as general plant manager for
   GTE  of Pennsylvania and GTE of Florida in Tampa from 1961 to 1965. He
   was elected vice president-operations for the Florida company in 1966.
   He  served  in that capacity until 1974 when he was elected president,
   GTE  of  Kentucky in Lexington. Two years later he was named president
   of the GTE Southwest at Durham, N.C. In 1981 he was elected president,
   GTE  Southwest,  moving  back to San Angelo, where he spent many years
   during  his  early  career.  He retired as president, GTE Southwest in
   August 1989.
   
   Buddy started a second career in telephony in 1991 when he was elected
   chairman and CEO of Universal Service Telephone. From 1994 to present,
   he served as president and CEO of Rico Telephone.
   
   Off the job, Buddy served on many civic and business boards. He served
   as  vice  chairman,  Board  of Regents of Texas College of Osteopathic
   Medicine; Board of Regents, University of North Texas; Chairman, Texas
   Academy of Mathematics and Science at UNT, The North Texas Commission,
   North  Texas  Water  Commission, Governmental Affairs Council of Texas
   Chamber  of  Commerce  and  Sustaining  Membership  for Circle 10, Boy
   Scouts  of  America. He served on the board of directors of the Dallas
   Childrens Medical Center, The Irving Health Care System, State Fair of
   Texas,  Texas  Commerce  Bank of Dallas and the Texas State Chamber of
   Commerce.  He  also  served  as president of the Independent Telephone
   Pioneer  Association. He was an active member of the Salesmanship Club
   of  Dallas and was instrumental in causing GTE to be the title sponsor
   of the GTE Byron Nelson Golf Tournament.
   
   Visitation  will  be  from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 17, with family
   receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Donnellys Colonial Funeral Home,
   Funeral  service  for  Buddy  will  be  at 11 a.m. Monday, June 18, in
   Donnellys  Colonial  Chapel.  Interment  will  be  at 1 p.m. Monday in
   Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.

                          AUDRELL O.Z. LITTLEFIELD
   
   Audrell  O.Z.  Littlefield,  83, a longtime resident of Bronte and San
   Angelo, died on Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at his residence.
   
   Audrell  was  born  Sept.  12, 1917, 50 miles from Lovington, N.M., to
   O.Z. and Bertie Littlefield.
   
   He married Marceill Bell on May 18, 1943.
   
   Audrell  worked  for  the  Texas  Predatory  Control in Crane for four
   years;  Camp  Barkeley in Abilene; the North Concho Dam for 27 months;
   and  the  San  Angelo  Fire  Department  for  23  years.  Prior to his
   retirement,  he  worked  19  years  for Wilbur Anderson. He bought the
   family farm in Bronte, where he raised cattle.
   
   He  was  preceded  in  death  by  his  parents;  his wife of 44 years,
   Marceill,  on Aug. 3, 1987; two sons, Willard Wayne Spunky Littlefield
   and  Robert Randall Littlefield; a sister, Violet Self; and a brother,
   Elgin Littlefield.
   
   Audrell is survived by four children, Zoe E. Marshall and husband, Ken
   of  Florida, Audrell Monroe Jr. Littlefileld and wife, Carolyn, of San
   Angelo,  Violet  Jeannie  Littlefield  of  San  Angelo and Delores Dee
   Ferguson and husband, David, of Ballinger.
   
   He  also  is  survived  by  20  grandchildren, Sharon Zertucha, Connie
   McCulla,  Theresa  Abers,  Dorothy Willis, Rosa Sims, Johnny Reid, Zoe
   Anna  Parker,  Ranae Mantz, Lynn Richeler, Audrey Kaffman, Tina Lange,
   Butch  Ferguson,  Lisa  New, Michael Ferguson, Trina Donaldson, Marsha
   Jones,  Lee  Littlefield, Monroe Littlefield, Tammy Littlefield, Shawn
   Littlefield   and  Becky  Littlefield;  one  sister,  Peggy  Phillips;
   numerous  great-grandchildren  and  great-grandchildren;  and  special
   friends, Opal Hoffman and Margie Searcy.
   
   Graveside  service  will  be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 16, in Fairview
   Cemetery  in  Bronte officiated by Bobby Jones. Arrangements are under

   Leona  Estelle (Wetsel) Ray, 90, of San Angelo died Thursday, June 14,
   2001,  in  a local nursing care center. She was born Sept. 4, 1910, in
   Pleasant  Hill,  Texas.  She was manager of the sewing room at Western
   Mattress  Co. in San Angelo for more than 30 years. She married Lee C.
   Ray June 25, 1927, in Abilene, Texas.
   
   Survivors  include  two  daughters,  Rosa Frances Tatum of Abilene and

                           GERALD D. JACK HARTLEY
   
   STERLING  CITY  Graveside service for Gerald D. Jack Hartley of Garden
   City  was  held  at  10  a.m.  Thursday,  June 7, 2001, in Garden City
   Cemetery. The Rev. Alvie Stiefer, Ph.D. officiated.
   
   Mr.  Hartley  was  born May 27, 1925, in Valparaiso, Ind., to Frank E.
   and  Mary  Ann  Maudlin  Hartley. He is survived by his wife, Virginia
   Christie  Hartley;  two  daughters,  Gerry Short and husband, Mike, of
   Garden  City and Beverly Harp of Midland; five grandchildren, Christie
   Anne  Robertson  and  her fiance, John Dyer, of Abilene, Bryan Harp of
   Midland,  Genny Lynn Meyer of Lubbock, Kimberly June Harp of Ballinger
   and  David  Hartley  Meyer  of Garden City; a cousin, Byron Maudlin of
   Oregon;  other  cousins  in  Indiana; special friend, Lacey Lyons; and
   many close friends.
   
   Mr.  Hartley  was  preceded in death by two brothers, V.E. Hartley and
   Joe Hartley.
   
   Mr.  Hartley  served  in  the  U.S.  Navy from 1942 to 1946 on the USS
   Texas,  USS  Nevada  and  USS Cecil. He also served three years in the
   Texas  National  Guard.  His life included a career in communications,
   ranching and farming.
   
   Pallbearers  were  Leon Halfmann, Mark Halfmann, Larry Halfmann, Tommy
   Hoelscher,  John  Mark  Kinnibrugh  and  Dale  Hillger.  His telephone
   co-workers were considered honorary pallbearers.
   
   Jack  will be remembered as a man who felt fortunate to spend his life
   with  his  wife  of  54  years.  Always  a  devoted family man and the
   foundation of his home, he will be sorely missed. He was known to tell
   a story about old times, create a little mischief and challenge you to
   a  game  of  checkers  or  dominoes.  He  would  be  the first to say,
   Remember, Im the expert!
   
   In spite of years of failing health, he never lost his sense of humor.

   Billy  Jackson,  87,  of  San  Angelo died Friday, June 15, 2001, in a
   local hospital.

   Billy  was  born Sept. 12, 1913, in Eden to Thomas Jefferson and Sadie
   Clementine  Kitchens Jackson. He was a former resident of Stephenville
   and had lived in San Angelo for two years.
   
   Billy   was   a   retired  sheet  metal  mechanic  for  Corn  Products
   International  in Corpus Christi. He was a member of the First Baptist
   Church in Stephenville, Masonic Lodge 267 and Eastern Star Lodge 861.
   
   Billy was married to Leora Stroman on Oct. 31, 1936, in San Angelo.
   
   His  parents; one brother; and his daughter and son-in-law, Betty Jane
   and Charles C. Burke, preceded Billy in death.

   James  Oran  Brashear,  97,  went  to  his eternal home to be with his
   Heavenly Father on Friday, June 15, 2001, in a local nursing home.

   Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Randy Samuels officiating. Arrangements

   Oran  was  born  March  12, 1904, in Olden, Eastland County, Texas, to
   Columbus  T.  and  Elizabeth  Fenn  Brashear. He was the seventh of 13
   children.  He  was  preceded  in  death by his father and mother, five
   brothers and five sisters. Also, four wives, Annie Mae Marsh Brashear,
   Maude   Smith  Brashear,  Allie  Parrish  Brashear  and  Irene  Buller
   Brashear.
   
   Oran  is  survived by two daughters and their spouses, Rubye Joyce and
   Ernest  Tennyson  of  Carlsbad  and  Mary Kathleen and Gus Tennyson of
   Portland,  Ore.; two stepdaughters, Bessie Gene Kellum of Crockett and
   Margie  Buller  Prichard of Kansas. Also, two sisters, Mildred Stewart
   of  San  Angelo  and  Ila  Anderson of Anniston, Ala. He leaves behind
   seven  grandchildren  and  their spouses, Linda Worrell of Fort Wayne,
   Ind.,  Bobby  and Linda Tennyson of Amarillo, Mary Beth and Joel Smith
   of  Granbury,  Nancy  and  Danny  Bolding  of  Carlsbad, Anna and Mark
   Hulslander  of  Bay  City,  Jim and Shawna Smith of Katy and David and
   Mary  Smith  of  Tyler.  He  also  leaves 19 great-grandchildren, five
   great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
   
   During  the 1930s Oran worked on several dairy farms in the Rio Grande
   Valley  of  New Mexico. In the 1940s and early 50s he was a foreman in
   the  Hurley,  N.M.,  Kennecot  Copper Corp. Mill. After that he worked
   several years in the Robert Massie Furniture Store in San Angelo.
   
   Our  Grandpa  loved  the Lord and was an example to us all. Oran was a
   member  of  Central Faith Baptist Church in Crockett, where he resided
   for the last several years of his life.
   
   He  was  a man who kept his promises and was respected by all who knew
   him.
   
   The  family  wishes to express a heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff
   of  Houston  County  Nursing  Center  and  Baptist Memorials who daily
   showed their caring and compassion to our dad.

   ODESSA Altha Chamberlain, 95, of Odessa passed away Thursday, June 14,
   2001,  in  Medical  Center  Hospital.  She  was born July 14, 1905, in
   Richland Springs.
   
   She was a homemaker and a member of University Heights Baptist Church.
   
   She  was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ida Mae Crouch;
   and her husband, Chester Powell.
   
   She  is  survived  by  sons,  Bernie Powell of Jacksonville, Ark., and
   Victor  Powell  of  Mesquite;  daughters, Yvonne Sanford of Odessa and
   Wanda    Barr    of    Branson,    Mo.;    eight   grandchildren;   11

                                JOHNNY JONES
   
   Johnny  Jones, 72, of San Angelo died Saturday, June 16, 2001, after a
   four-year  battle with cancer. Graveside service will be held Tuesday,
   June 19, in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
   
   Mr.  Jones  was born Nov. 1, 1928, in Garden Valley, Texas. He married
   Edith  Chamberlain Dec. 5, 1952. He was in the United States Air Force
   for  20  years,  serving  under five presidents during the Korean War,
   Cuban  Missile  Crisis  and Vietnam War. After his military career, he
   continued  in  public  service  as a Lake Nasworthy lake ranger for 10
   years.  Here  is  where his lasting friendship with retired San Angelo
   Police Chief Rusty Smith began.
   
   Johnny  Jones  was  preceded  in  death by his wife of 29 years, Edith
   Chamberlain  Jones;  his  parents, Pitt and Lola Jones; brothers, Lou,
   Elmer, Durwood and Buck; and his eldest grandson, Matthew Sivells.
   
   Survivors  include  his  daughters  and  sons-in-law, Denny and Pamela
   Sivells  of Memphis, Tenn. and Edward and Sharon Seidenberg of Austin;
   grandsons,  Michael  and  Mark  Sivells  of  Memphis,  Tenn., Chad and
   Patrick   Wilson  and  John  Seidenberg;  and  granddaughter,  Suzanne
   Seidenberg,  all  of  Austin; sister and brother-in-law, Paul and Mary
   Ann  Keeler  of  Electra;  brothers, Butch and Bill Jones of Davidson,
   Okla.;  brother  and  sister-in-law,  Gerald  and  Margie  Garrett  of
   Abilene;  brother-in-law  and  sister-in-law,  Joe  and Lorene Hull of
   Muskogee,  Okla.;  brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Nelson and Tommie
   Chamberlain  of Grand Prairie; mother-in-law, Katherine Chamberlain of
   Abilene;  and very precious friend, Becky Mayberry and her sons of San
   Angelo.
   
   All  his family and friends thank Dr. Coughlin for his endless work to
   cure  the  vicious  disease, Dr. Cheruku for his dedication to relieve
   the  pain  this disease causes, Dr. McIver for his surgical expertise,
   Nurse  Tanis  for  her  unending  energy  and love during this painful
   period,  and  all the other wonderful Shannon nursing staff who helped
   him night after night with their touch and prayers.

   Mildred  B.  Stewart, 87, of San Angelo died Sunday, June 17, 2001, in
   Baptist Memorials.
   
   Service  will  be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, in Johnsons Funeral Home
   Chapel  with  the  Rev.  Phil  Webber  and  the  Rev.  Neal  Brillhart
   officiating. Burial will follow in Belvedere Memorial Park.
   
   Mildred  was born Jan. 5, 1914, in Coke County, Texas, to Columbus and
   Annie  Elizabeth  Fenn  Brashear.  She  was a member of Baptist Temple
   Church and a resident of San Angelo for 76 years.
   
   Survivors  include  one  sister,  Ila  Anderson of Anniston, Ala.; and
   numerous  nieces and nephews, including Joy Perry, Ruby Tennyson, O.D.
   Brashear and Francis Brashear, all of San Angelo.
   
                          JOHN BUD NELSON CAMPBELL
   
   John  Bud Nelson Campbell, 62, of San Angelo died at 7:03 p.m. Friday,
   June 15, 2001, at his residence.
   
   Bud  was born July 9, 1938, in Nashville, Tenn., to Charlie and Bertie
   Campbell.
   
   He  is survived by his wife, Janie; his mother-in-law, Annie Chappell;
   brothers,  Homer  and  wife,  Lea, of Hardvilla, Ky., Donnie and wife,
   Brenda  of  Joelton, Tenn., and Mac Campbell of Chicago; sisters, Jean
   Owens of Florida and Dot Crook and husband, Thomas Wayne of Gallinton,
   Tenn.;  sister-in-law, Joyce Campbell of San Angelo; ex-sister-in-law,
   Sandra   Smith   of   San  Angelo  (to  Bud,  Sandra  was  always  his
   sister-in-law),  brothers-in-law, Don and wife, Cathy Chappell, of San
   Angelo,  Henry  Chappell  and Buck and wife, Eva Chappell, both of Big
   Spring;  sisters-in-law,  Lola Craddick of Grape Creek, May Massery of
   San  Angelo,  Joyce  Dunlap and husband, J.D., of Brazoria. He also is
   survived   by   many   nephews  and  nieces  and  also  great-nephews,
   great-nieces, great-great-nephews and great-great-nieces.
   
   Bud was preceded in death by his father and mother, Charlie and Bertie
   Campbell;   his  father-in-law,  Thomas  Chappell;  brothers,  Joe  of
   Nashville,  Raymond  of  San Angelo, Chuck of Nashville; sisters, Neil
   Cannon of Huntsville, Jessie Greer of Brownwood, Myrtle Sesson, a baby
   sister, and Naomi Helton, all of Nashville.
   
   Bud met Janie in San Angelo and they were married on June 14, 1965. He
   was a cabinet maker and truck driver for years.
   
   The  family  wishes  to  express  sincere  appreciation to all of Buds
   doctors,  the  staff at Shannon Medical Center, Hospice of San Angelo,
   Nurse Bobby and Sister Brigid Mollaghan who came to pray with him.
   
   Honorary  pallbearers will be Tom D. Chapell, Raymond H. Campbell Jr.,
   Mark Craddick, Doug Craddick, Richard O. Skelton and Elwayne Kelly.
   
   Graveside  service  will  be  at 10 a.m. Monday, June 18, in Belvedere

   James  Oran  Brashear,  97,  went  to  his eternal home to be with his
   Heavenly Father on Friday, June 15, 2001, in a local nursing home.
   
   Graveside  service  will  be  at  2 p.m. Monday, June 18, in Lawnhaven
   Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Randy Samuels officiating. Arrangements
   are by Johnsons Funeral Home.
   
   Oran  was  born  March  12, 1904, in Olden, Eastland County, Texas, to
   Columbus  T.  and  Elizabeth  Fenn  Brashear. He was the seventh of 13
   children.  He  was  preceded  in  death by his father and mother, five
   brothers and five sisters. Also, four wives, Annie Mae Marsh Brashear,
   Maude   Smith  Brashear,  Allie  Parrish  Brashear  and  Irene  Buller
   Brashear.
   
   Oran  is  survived by two daughters and their spouses, Rubye Joyce and
   Ernest  Tennyson  of  Carlsbad  and  Mary Kathleen and Gus Tennyson of
   Portland,  Ore.; two stepdaughters, Bessie Gene Kellum of Crockett and
   Margie  Buller  Prichard  of  Kansas.  Also, a sister, Ila Anderson of
   Anniston, Ala. He leaves behind seven grandchildren and their spouses,
   Linda  Worrell  of  Fort  Wayne,  Ind.,  Bobby  and  Linda Tennyson of
   Amarillo,  Mary  Beth  and  Joel  Smith  of  Granbury, Nancy and Danny
   Bolding  of  Carlsbad,  Anna  and Mark Hulslander of Bay City, Jim and
   Shawna Smith of Katy and David and Mary Smith of Tyler. He also leaves
   19 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and many nieces
   and nephews.
   
   During  the 1930s Oran worked on several dairy farms in the Rio Grande
   Valley  of  New Mexico. In the 1940s and early 50s he was a foreman in
   the  Hurley,  N.M.,  Kennecot  Copper Corp. Mill. After that he worked
   several years in the Robert Massie Furniture Store in San Angelo.
   
   Our  Grandpa  loved  the Lord and was an example to us all. Oran was a
   member  of  Central Faith Baptist Church in Crockett, where he resided
   for the last several years of his life.
   
   He  was  a man who kept his promises and was respected by all who knew
   him.
   
   The  family  wishes to express a heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff
   of  Houston  County  Nursing  Center  and  Baptist Memorials who daily
   showed their caring and compassion to our dad.

                                CAMMY ORGON
   
   GEORGETOWN  Cammy  Orgon,  34,  of Georgetown went to be with the Lord
   Friday,  June  15,  2001.  She  was  born Feb. 9, 1967, in San Angelo,
   Texas, to Andrew E. Orgon and Geraldene (Black) Orgon. Cammy lived the
   last  25  years  of  her life in Georgetown. She graduated from GHS in
   1986  and  played  the trumpet in the Eagle Band during the four years
   Georgetown won consecutive State Marching Band Championships.
   
   She  attended  Angelo State University for three years after which she
   was   employed   by  the  Williamson  County  Sheriffs  Department  as
   coordinator  of the County Crimestoppers Program and also worked as an
   investigator under Sheriff Jim Boutwell.
   
   Nine years ago, while employed with the Sheriffs Department, Cammy was
   seriously  and  permanently  injured  in a water skiing accident which
   left her a paraplegic. Since that time she coped with her injuries and
   with  life  as courageously and positively as is humanly possible. She
   was  a  constant  inspiration  to all. Her lifes goal was to become an
   attorney  to  be  an  advocate  for  the  disabled.  Cammy  was a fall
   candidate  for  graduation  from  St. Edwards University where she had
   been  on  the  Deans  List.  She  loved  St.  Edwards, her professors,
   classmates  and  the  close academic family atmosphere and support she
   received at St. Eds.
   
   Cammy gave love and support to all. She never discussed her disability
   or  constant  physical  pains.  Her focus was always on others and her
   beloved  dogs  that  she  cared  for and loved as her children, Lexie,
   Mugs, Magnum and Duke.

   brother,  Andrew  Gerald  Drew  Orgon  and  wife, Stephanie, of Hutto;

                               MYRTLE FRITZE
   
   MASON  Myrtle  Hoerster  Fritze of Mason passed away Monday, June, 18,
   2001, at the age of 91.
   
   She was born May 14, 1910, in Mason County to Emil Hoerster and Lillie
   Kothmann  Hoerster. She married Vernon Fritze on June 18, 1935, and he
   preceded  her  in  death.  She  also  was  preceded  in death by three
   brothers,  Ervin  Hoerster, Marvin Hoerster and Franklin Hoerster; and
   one sister, Elsie Hoerster.
   
   Myrtle is survived by her children, Vernon Fritze Jr. and wife, Kathy,
   of  San  Angelo  and  Ginger  Cave and husband, the Rev. Mike Cave, of
   Universal  City. She also is survived by her grandchildren, Vernon Van
   Fritze  III,  Felicia  Fritze  Sprayberry and husband, Christopher and
   Christopher  Michael  Cave; as well as her great-granddaughter, Sierra
   Rose  Sprayberry.  The following brother and sisters also survive Mrs.
   Fritze: Norman Fritze, Raymond Fritze, Jane Hoerster, Eloise Hoerster,
   Gladys Fairburn and Lillie Mae Avrett.
   
   The  family  will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 20,
   at  Mason  Funeral  Home.  Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday,
   June  21,  at  First  United  Methodist Church with interment in Gooch
   Cemetery.  The  family requests that those sending memorials designate

                               ILA MAE PAYNE
   
   Ila  Mae  Payne,  87, of San Angelo died Saturday, June 16, 2001, in a
   local hospital.
   
   She  was born Feb. 24, 1914, in Seymour, Texas, to Jesse L. and Hattie
   Lee  Clepper  Scarborough.  Her family later settled in Roswell, N.M.,
   where she met and married David Vernon Payne on Dec. 14, 1932. Vernons
   family ranched west of Roswell, in Lincoln County. The couple filed on
   their  own  claim,  establishing a ranch that was to be their home for
   many years. They had two children, Norman and Naomi. Ila Mae loved the
   ranch and her life there.
   
   In  1953,  the  family  sold  the ranch and moved to San Angelo, where
   Vernon owned the Ford Tractor Agency on Bell Street. Ila Mae started a
   tropical  fish  business  in  her home. She made many friends, and was
   well known to area aquarium enthusiasts. She also raised and sold many
   species  of  birds.  Other  hobbies included crochet, braided rugs and
   gardening.
   
   Ill  health  forced  Ila Mae to retire from business in the 1990s. She
   resided at Baptist Memorials for the last year of her life.
   
   She  was  beloved  by her family and friends and will be truly missed.
   She  was  preceded  in death by her husband on May 7, 1997, her parent
   and four brothers.
   
   Survivors  include  one  daughter,  Naomi Wadsworth of San Angelo; one
   son,   Norman   Lee  Payne  of  Knoxville,  Tenn.;  one  brother,  Ben
   Scarborough of Sacramento, Calif.; four grandchildren, Aubrey Stewart,
   Suzanne   ODonnell,   Dean   Scott  and  Wesley  Wadsworth;  and  four
   great-grandchildren,  Derrick  Scott,  Miranda Stewart and Colleen and
   Siobhan ODonnell.
   
   Memorial  service  will  be  at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, in Baptist

   Alma Bernice Roberts, 89, of San Angelo died Sunday, June 17, 2001, in
   a local hospital.

   Lawnhaven  Memorial  Gardens with the Rev. Howard Jernigan of Lampasas
   Primitive  Baptist  Church  officiating.  Arrangements are by Johnsons

   Alma  was  born Jan. 15, 1912, in Bradshaw, Texas. She married Kenneth
   Holland Roberts on Aug. 3, 1940. He preceded her in death.
   
   Alma  retired  after  25  years with the San Angelo Independent School
   District.  She  was  a faithful attending member for 24 years with the
   Senior  Citizen  Center and a lifetime member of the Primitive Baptist
   Church.
   
   Survivors  include  two  sons,  Edward  Ray  Roberts and Kenneth Wayne
   Roberts,  both  of  San  Angelo;  two brothers, Amon Aldridge and Amos
   Aldridge,  both  of  Lawn; and one sister, Marjorie Wright of Abilene;
   granddaughters,  Lisa  Dawn  Siegel,  Tina Lyn Roberts, Robin Andrews;
   grandsons,   John   Drey   Roberts   and  Sam  Roberts;  and  numerous
   great-grandchildren and friends.

   Mildred  B.  Stewart, 87, of San Angelo died Sunday, June 17, 2001, in
   Baptist Memorials
   
   Service  will  be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, in Johnsons Funeral Home
   Chapel  with  the  Rev.  Phil  Webber  and  the  Rev.  Neal  Brillhart
   officiating. Burial will follow in Belvedere Memorial Park.
   
   Mildred  was born Jan. 5, 1914, in Coke County, Texas, to Columbus and
   Annie  Elizabeth  Fenn  Brashear.  She  was a member of Baptist Temple
   Church and a resident of San Angelo for 76 years.
   
   Survivors  include  one  sister,  Ila  Anderson of Anniston, Ala.; and
   numerous  nieces and nephews, including Joy Perry, Ruby Tennyson, O.D.
   Brashear and Francis Brashear, all of San Angelo.
   
                             BERNICE STECKLEIN
   
   Bernice  Stecklein,  82,  of  San  Angelo died peacefully in her sleep
   Saturday, June 16, 2001, in San Angelo.
   
   Private family interment will follow at a later date. Arrangements are
   by Robert Massie Funeral Home.
   
   She  was  born Dec. 15, 1918, in Fort Riley, Kan., and was preceded in
   death by her husband of 48 years, Abel Westenbroek. Bernice took great
   pride  in  her  family  and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and
   great-grandmother.
   
   Survivors  include  her  husband,  Frank Stecklein of San Antonio; her
   daughter,  Susan  Westenbroek of San Angelo; her sister, Evelyn Geiber
   of  Ogden,  Kan.;  her  brother,  Kenneth Stein of California; and her
   beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
   
   The  family  wishes  to  thank  the  staff of Regency House who showed
   tremendous  compassion,  patience and love to our beloved matriarch in
   her final days.

   BALLINGER  Paul  Davis Pruitt, 82, of Norton died at 7:15 p.m. Monday,
   June 18, 2001, in Ballinger.

   Paul  was  born  April  21,  1919,  in Coke County to Henry Pruitt and
   Estella  Davis.  He  married  Joyce Roper on June 20, 1948, in Norton.
   Paul  served  in  the  Army  Air  Corps  during World War II. He was a
   farmer/rancher, board member of the Federal Land Bank for 27 years and
   a  PCA  board member. Paul also was a member of the Norton Lions Club,
   Shriners and Ballinger Masonic Lodge.
   
   He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Brian Pruitt.
   
   Survivors  include  his wife, Joyce Roper; son, Bruce Pruitt; brother,
   Curtis Pruitt and wife, Hazel, of Lamesa; numerous nieces and nephews;

   Gary  was born Aug. 11, 1968, in San Angelo. His father and stepmother
   are  Wayne  and  Virginia  Williams  of  San  Angelo;  and  mother and
   stepfather, Darlinda Kay and Rockie Hopper of Arlington.
   
   He was a graduate of San Angelo Central High School and had helped his
   father  in the family business, Williams Used Cars. He was a member of
   the Cross Roads Assembly of God Church.
   
   He  is  survived  by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Randy and
   Sharon  Williams of San Angelo; sister, Christine Gibbs of San Angelo;
   paternal  grandparents,  Mr.  and Mrs. Sealy Williams of Coleman; four
   nephews  and  one  niece,  Michael  and  Shea Williams, Kevin and Levi
   Gibbs, and Alexus Earle, all of San Angelo.

   FREDERICKSBURG  Mrs.  John  B.  McDougall, nee Mattie Rogers, 88, died
   Monday,  Jun  18,  2001, at a private residence in Kerrville . Funeral
   service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 21, in Beckmann Funeral Home
   Chapel  with  the Rev. Joseph Dwayne Smith officiating. Interment will
   follow in Harper City Cemetery.
   
   Visitation  will  begin  at  5  p.m.  Wednesday,  June 20, at Beckmann
   Funeral Home.
   
   Mrs.  McDougall was born Jan. 2, 1913, in Harper, the daughter of John
   H.  Rogers  and Viola Rogers. She married John B. McDougall of Harper.
   Mrs.  McDougall  first  was employed as a telephone operator in Mason.
   She  then  served as operator in the community of Harper for more than
   15  years.  For the next 23 years Mrs. McDougall dedicated her efforts
   to  the  youth  of  Harper  by  serving  as  secretary, bookkeeper and
   librarian for the Harper Independent School District.
   
   She was preceded in death by her parents.
   
   In  addition  to her husband she is survived by a son, Mike McDougall,
   and  a  grandson,  John Brett McDougall, all of Harper. Also surviving
   are  a  sister  and  brother-in-law, Ola and Clarence McDougall; and a
   brother and sister-in-law, Charles H. and Beoma Rogers, all of Harper.
   
   Memorials  may  be  given  to  Harper EMS/Fire Department, Harper City
   Cemetery,  West  Texas  Rehabilitation  Center  or the charity of ones
   choice.

                             SARAH CRAIG TAYLOR
   
   DALLAS  Sarah  Craig Taylor was born Feb. 11, 1947, in San Antonio and
   passed away May 31, 2001, in Dallas, succumbing to ovarian cancer.
   
   She  is survived by her parents, Raymond and Nancy Craig of Ballinger;
   sister,  Candice  Petty  and  husband,  Joe;  niece, Laurel Petty; and
   nephew, Craig Petty.
   
   Sarah  was  educated  at  Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio,
   Texas  Tech  University  in  Lubbock  and  Texas  Womans University in
   Denton. She worked in the oil and gas industry for 25 years, initially
   for  the  late  Leo  Patterson, and for the past 18 years as executive
   assistant  and  corporate  officer  at Texan Petroleum Corp. for R. J.
   Smith Jr. She also assisted designer Sandy Smith and the late Virginia
   Linthicum as business consultant.
   
   Sarah  was  an accomplished artist and designer, creating works in oil
   painting, bronze sculpture, photography and needlework. She had a deep
   appreciation  for gardening, reading and book collecting. She also had
   a  deep  love  for  animals,  caring  for  many, including raising and
   showing American Saddlebreds.
   
   Memorial  service  was Thursday, June 7, in Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral
   Home Chapel with Father Greg Kelly officiating.

   fall where she was majoring in special education and kinesiology.

   Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at the Church of
   Christ  in Sonora with the Rev. Jerry Jackson officiating. Burial will
   follow in Sonora Cemetery. Arrangements are by Kerbow Funeral Home.
   
   Alma  was born May 10, 1917, in Hext, Texas. She was preceded in death
   by her husband of 49 years, Preston F. Love; and one brother and three
   sisters.
   
   Survivors include two sons, Preston O. Love and his wife, Linda, Tommy
   E.  Love  and  his wife, Carol, and one daughter, Martha L. Martin and
   her  husband,  Billy,  all  of  Sonora.  She  is  survived by numerous
   grandsons, Preston Jr., Lance, David, Glen, Steve, Rex, Tracy Love and
   Mikal  Martin.  Her  granddaughters  are  Lee  Ann Holt, Amy Sykes and
   Tamara  Shannon. Also surviving are numerous great-grandchildren; many
   nephews  and  nieces;  and  a very special friend, Lottie Riely of San
   Angelo.
   
   The  family  requests  memorials  be  sent  to  Hospice of San Angelo,
   American Heart Association or a favorite charity of the donors choice.
   
   We will miss her chocolate and pecan pies and her fried apricot pies.
   
   ALMA BERNICE ROBERTS
   
   Alma Bernice Roberts, 89, of San Angelo died Sunday, June 17, 2001, in
   a local hospital.
   
   Graveside  service  will  be  at  11:30  a.m.  Wednesday,  June 20, in
   Lawnhaven  Memorial  Gardens with the Rev. Howard Jernigan of Lampasas
   Primitive  Baptist  Church  officiating.  Arrangements are by Johnsons
   Funeral Home.
   
   Alma  was  born Jan. 15, 1912, in Bradshaw, Texas. She married Kenneth
   Holland Roberts on Aug. 3, 1940. He preceded her in death.
   
   Alma  retired  after  25  years with the San Angelo Independent School
   District.  She  was  a faithful attending member for 24 years with the
   Senior  Citizen  Center and a lifetime member of the Primitive Baptist
   Church.
   
   Survivors  include  two  sons,  Edward  Ray  Roberts and Kenneth Wayne
   Roberts,  both  of  San  Angelo;  two brothers, Amon Aldridge and Amos
   Aldridge,  both  of  Lawn; and one sister, Marjorie Wright of Abilene;
   granddaughters,  Lisa  Dawn  Siegel,  Tina Lyn Roberts, Robin Andrews;
   grandsons,   John   Drey   Roberts   and  Sam  Roberts;  and  numerous
   great-grandchildren and friends.
   
                         RICHARD DICK WALKER HARRIS
   
   HOUSTON Richard Dick Walker Harris, 77, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, in
   Houston.  He was born June 19, 1923, in Waco and grew up in San Angelo
   where he worked as a civil engineer in the construction business until
   1970.  In  subsequent  years,  he lived and worked in the Austin area,
   retiring there in 1985. Devoted to his country, Mr. Harris served as a
   lieutenant   during   World  War  II  and  was  assigned  as  aircraft
   maintenance  officer  aboard  the  USS  Shamrock  Bay,  serving in the
   Pacific  Theatre.  Following the war, he returned to the University of
   Texas to complete his degree in aeronautical engineering and developed
   a lifelong loyalty to his alma mater. In later years, he and his wife,
   Zoe  Boozer  Harris,  enjoyed  researching  family  history, traveling
   around the state and corresponding with relatives around the world.
   
   He  is  survived by and will be missed by his loving and devoted wife,
   Zoe;  son, William S. Harris and wife, Ann; daughters, Karen Dusek and
   husband,   Ronnie,   and   Barbara  Wilson  and  husband,  Kenny;  two
   granddaughters; five grandsons; and one great-grandson.
   
   Graveside  service  will  be  at  11 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, in Pecan
   Creek Cemetery near Marble Falls.

                             LAURA C. McMULLAN
   
   Laura  C.  McMullan, Grandma Dear and Aunt Laura to many, went home to
   be  with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on June 19, 2001. She was a
   resident  of  Crockett  County  Care  Center  in  Ozona, where she was
   lovingly  cared  for  by  all the staff including Dr. Marcus Sims, Jan
   St.Clair, and caregiver and friend, Mrs. Jose Mendoza.
   
   Laura  was born Sept. 22, 1906, in Curtice, Ohio, to Carl Gilbert Dean
   and Clara Edith Cottrell Dean. She came to Texas as the bride of Floyd
   Kemper  McMullan  after  their marriage Nov. 1, 1926, in Toledo, Ohio.
   They  made  their  ranch home in Crockett County on the Shannon Estate
   for 75 years.
   
   Floyd preceded her in death in 1961. She also was preceded in death by
   her  brother,  Don  Dean; sister, Lucile Perry Hanson, grandson, Shawn
   Drake  McMullan,  and  great-grandson,  Beau Dean McMullan, who are in
   heaven to welcome her home, along with other relatives and friends.
   
   Laura was a true ranch wife, keeping a happy home life and cooking for
   many  friends and family and work crews. Her faith in Jesus was strong
   and  it carried over to the family by her shining example of Christian
   life.  She  also  will be remembered by her many talents of sewing and
   crafts,  quilting  and poem writing. She had many favorite recipes and
   shared  them  with  all.  She was an avid reader and bridge player and
   always  was  interested  in  all her familys activities. Also, she and
   Floyd  supported  the  4-H  and  FFA programs and during the Christmas
   season  they  brought  the  youngsters out to the ranch to get a cedar
   Christmas Tree.
   
   Laura was past president of Reagan County PTA and 20th Century Club in
   Big  Lake  and  Texas  Sheep  and Goat Raisers Auxiliary. She was very
   instrumental  in  the  Miss  Wool of Texas pageant as a chaperone. She
   served  at  Hockaday  School  and  Angelo  State  University as a dorm
   mother.  On  several  occasions  she  joined  her daughter, June, with
   Presbyterian World Missions, ministering as a dorm mother in Brazil.
   
   Laura  is  survived  by  two  sisters,  Jessie  Bueschen  and Margaret
   Willard,  and  their families of Ohio and Virginia; also, by a special
   niece, Jay Dean Shoemake, and nephew, Bill Perry, of Hurst and Dallas.
   
   Her  family includes son, Johnnie McMullan and wife, Peggie, and their
   children  and  spouses,  Dean  and  Debbie  McMullan,  David  and Mary
   McMullan,  Mike and Lee McMullan, Kelly and Johnny and Cindy Middleton
   and  family  who live in Big Spring; also, her son, Kenny McMullan and
   wife, Glenda, and daughter, Mecca Jo McMullan of Iraan, and son-in-law
   and  daughter,  Abe  and  June  McMullan Berberian of Brazil and their
   children,  Fausto  and  Ana Laura Berberian Gonzaga, Jonatas Berberian
   and Abron and wife, Fernanda, Berberian.
   
   Her  great-grandchildren  are  Tate and Deak McMullan, Tessie, Lillian
   and  Arlis  McMullan  of  Iraan and Bronte and Erin and Jacob Kelly of
   Iraan  and  Arthur and Douglas Gonzaga of Brazil. Also, there are many
   special nieces and nephews and loving friends.
   
   Family  and  friends are asked to join at 10 a.m. Friday, June 22, for
   visitation  at  Johnsons  Funeral Home, where service will begin at 11
   a.m. and burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery.

                       JOSEPH THOMAS PRICE MIDDLETON
   
   BALLINGER  Joseph Thomas Price Middleton, 89, passed away Monday, June
   18, 2001, in Rio Concho Manor in San Angelo.
   
   He  is  survived  by  his  daughter,  Suzanne  Middleton Price and her
   husband,  Paul  Price;  and  his  grandchildren, Stephen Price and his
   wife, Julie, and Sally Price Charles and her husband, Brad.
   
   Price  Middleton was born April 7, 1912, in Ballinger to Walter E. and
   Mattie  Belle  Middleton.  He  joined  the National Guard in September
   1928.  He  married Ann Newby of Bradshaw, Texas, on May 5, 1935. After
   52 years of marriage, Mrs. Middleton died on July 1, 1987.
   
   Price  Middletons  tour  of  duty  was  activated  in World War II. He
   trained  both  in  the United States and in North Africa. He landed at
   Salerno,  Italy  on  Sept.  9,  1943,  in  command of B Company, 142nd
   Infantry  of  the  36th  Division. He was in combat in Italy at Anzio,
   Rome  and  north  of  Obertello. He also participated in an amphibious
   landing  in  Southern  France  on  Aug. 15, 1944. At that time, he was
   executive officer for the 2nd Battalion of the 142nd Infantry and went
   through   Granoble,  Lyons,  St.  Marie,  St.  Croix  and  the  Vosges
   Mountains.  He  was  wounded  in  the  leg  on  Dec.  15, 1944, in St.
   Hippolyte,  France. He was hospitalized in France until April 2, 1945.
   He  retired  from  the Army in August 1947 with the rank of lieutenant
   colonel.  He was decorated with the Silver Star, the Purple Heart with
   one  Oak  Leaf Cluster, the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantry Badge.
   Following  retirement,  Price  Middleton returned to Ballinger and was
   elected  Runnels  County treasurer. He served from Jan. 1, 1949, until
   Sept.  5,  1955.  He  then was appointed to Runnels County auditor. He
   retired Feb. 28, 1986, after serving 37 years for the county.
   
   Through  the  years,  Price  Middleton was active in several community
   organizations,  including  the Civil Defense, the Upper Colorado River
   Authority  and  the  American  Red  Cross. He had been a member of the
   American  Legion  Post No. 0008 for 54 years and a member of the Lions
   Club  for  more  than 50 years. He also was active in the First United
   Methodist  Church  of  Ballinger for more than 75 years. He taught the
   Doss  Bible Class for many years and served on the church board and on
   numerous committees.
   
   Price   Middleton   was  a  loving  and  caring  husband,  father  and
   grandfather.  He  will  be remembered as a man who loved life. We will
   miss you, G.P.

                           LILLIAN ELOISE CADDELL
   
   Lillian  Eloise  Caddell,  78,  passed  away peacefully at her home in
   Christoval on the evening of Tuesday, June 19, 2001.
   
   Born  Jan 31, 1923, in Oatmeal, Texas, she married James Alton Caddell
   on  Dec. 17, 1946. A 1941 graduate of Burnet High School, she survived
   the  Great  Depression  and  worked  in  various trades including ship
   welding in Houston during World War Ii and meat packing in San Angelo.
   She  was  a  loving mother and devoted homemaker and was known for her
   love  of  nature  and finding beauty in her surroundings. Eloise loved
   fishing,  hunting,  gardening and ranching, and is remembered by those
   who  knew  and  loved  her for her generous spirit and her forthright,
   no-nonsense approach to life.
   
   She  is  survived by a daughter, Melanie Reed and her husband, Ronald,
   of Christoval; a son, Jimmy Skylar Caddell of Austin; a granddaughter,
   Angelo  Flores  and  her  husband,  Carlos, of San Angelo; and various
   loved  ones  and  friends.  She  was preceded in death by her husband,
   James Alton Caddell; and her grandson, Justin Lee Allard.
   
   Family  visitation  will  be  from  7  to  9 p.m. Thursday at Johnsons
   Funeral  Home.  Service  will  be at 4 p.m. Friday in Johnsons Funeral
   Home  Chapel with burial in Christoval Cemetery immediately following.

                          MARY WHITFIELD HESSELMAN
   
   Mary  Whitfield  Hesselman  passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at The
   Trinity  Terrace  facility in Fort Worth. Mary was born June 23, 1914,
   to Walter and Luda Whitfield on a farm west of San Angelo.
   
   She  graduated  from San Angelo Senior High, San Angelo Junior College
   and Scarrett College in Nashville, Tenn. Following her graduation from
   Scarrett,  she  spent  quite  some  time  as  a  social  worker in the
   Appalachian  Mountains. She often spoke of that particular time of her
   life  as  it  was  such  a memorable time for her. She joined the Navy
   during  World  War  II and served as an ensign in the WAVES. Following
   her  tenure  as  a  WAVE,  she  served  many  years  as  secretary  to
   Congressman O.C. Fisher in Washington, D.C.
   
   She  and Arthur F. Hesselman were married June 26, 1948. They lived in
   Houston  until  the  death of Mr. Hesselman in 1978, at which time she
   moved back to San Angelo to care for her aged father and mother. After
   their  deaths,  she  moved  to Tucson, Ariz., to live with her sister,
   Helen.  In  1995,  she relocated to Fort Worth and enjoyed many active
   years as a resident of The Trinity Terrace Retirement Center.
   
   Survivors  are two sons, Claude Hesselman of Chesapeake, Va., and Karl
   Hesselman  of  San  Angelo;  two sisters, Dorothy Whitfield Jeffers of
   Tucson and Helen Whitfield Phillips of San Angleo; one brother, Wilbur
   A. Whitfield of Arlington; and many loving nieces and nephews.
   
   She  was  preceded  in  death  by  her  parents,  her  husband and two
   brothers.
   
   Graveside  service  will  be  at 10 a.m. Friday, June 22, in Fairmount
   Cemetery with arrangements by Johnsons Funeral Home.
   
                           FRED ARTHUR ELLIS III
   
   Fred  Ellis  III  of  San  Angelo passed away on June 19, 2001, at his
   residence.  Fred  was  born  on  Feb.  8,  1939, to Fred II and Lillie
   Margaret  Skeet  Lehne  Ellis.  He grew up in Menard, Texas, graduated
   from Menard High School in 1957 and attended Texas Tech University.
   
   He  was  a  member  of  Calvary Episcopal Church in Menard. Before his
   health  failed,  he was owner of Ellis Bait. Friends will remember him
   for  his  tremendous  sense  of humor and his ability to transfer that
   humor into cowboy art.
   
   He  is  survived  by  a  son,  Wade  Kevin  Ellis  of Canyon Lake; two
   daughters,  Gaye Lynn Ellis of New York City and Holly Elizabeth Ellis
   of  Winter  Park,  Fla;  also  by a special cousin, Pearl Ann Smith of
   Newport Beach, Calif.
   
   Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 22, in Johnsons Funeral
   Home  Chapel  with  burial to follow in Ellis Cemetery, between Menard
   and Fort McKavett. The Rev. Grosse Mohler will officiate.
   
   Pallbearers  will be Jerry Don Smith, Rick Mohler, Lynn Garnett, Brent
   Pfingsten,  Jeff  Schkade,  Jaden  Smith,  Banner Swindall and Orville
   Paty. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Kothman, Bernay Scheffield, Joe
   Phair and Jerry Willis.

                              MARY LOU McBRIDE
   
   Mary  Lou  McBride, 90, of Water Valley died Wednesday, June 20, 2001,
   at her residence.
   
   Graveside  service  will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 22, in Water Valley
   Cemetery  with  the  Rev.  Jim  Carter,  pastor of Water Valley United
   Methodist  Church,  officiating.  Arrangements are by Johnsons Funeral
   Home.
   
   Mary  Lou  was born Sept. 3, 1910, in Water Valley to Harve and Luella
   Nelson Earnest. She was a historian/rancher and had been a resident of
   Water Valley all of her life.
   
   Mary Lou was a member of the Water Valley United Methodist Church, the
   Tom  Green County Historical Society, the Daughters of the Republic of
   Texas and the Water Valley School Hall of Fame.
   
   Mary  Lou  was  married  to Walter Leslie McBride on Feb. 26, 1949, in
   Water Valley. He preceded her in death on Jan. 7, 1986.
   
   Survivors  include  two  daughters, June Heinze and husband, Wayne, of
   San  Angelo  and  Nonie Sparks and husband, Gordon, of Ardmore, Okla.;
   one  son,  Bob  McBride of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three granddaughters,
   Jenny  Heinze of San Angelo, Teresa Lee of Lewisville and Carrie Crain
   and  husband,  Garry, of Arlington; five grandsons, Ben Heinze of Fort
   Benning,  Ga.,  Brian Sparks and wife, Karen, of Lake Forrest, Calif.,
   Billy McBride of DeLand, Fla., Jamie McBride of Simpsonville, Ky., and
   Danny  McBride  of  Boulder,  Colo.;  her  nephews  and nieces, Thomas
   Earnest  and  Joan Earnest, both of San Angelo, and Jay Nelson Earnest
   and Sue Earnest, both of Nashville, Tenn.

                          SHIRLEY KING RICHARDSON
   
   Shirley  King  Richardson,  66,  of  San Angelo died Tuesday, June 19,
   2001, at her residence.
   
   Funeral  service  will  be  at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 23, at Edmund
   Boulevard  Baptist  Church  with  the  Rev. A.J. Kennemer officiating.
   Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Arrangements are by Johnsons
   Funeral Home.
   
   Pallbearers  will  be  Eddie,  Todd,  Eric  and Evan Richardson, Roger
   Wallace and Mark Bailey.
   
   Mrs.  Richardson  was  born  Oct.  27, 1934, in East Hampton, N.Y., to
   Alfred  King  and  Herta  Mary  Rutenberg  King.  She  married Charles
   Richardson  Feb.  28,  1952, in Mertzon. Shirley was a homemaker and a
   member of Edmund Boulevard Baptist Church.
   
   Mrs.   Richardson   was  preceded  in  death  by  her  parents  and  a
   granddaughter, Shirley Haechton.
   
   Survivors  include  her  husband,  Charles  Richardson;  a  son, Eddie
   Richardson  and  his wife, Melissa, of Stamford; a daughter, Cindy Ann
   Haechton  and her husband, Albert, of San Angelo; three grandchildren,
   Todd,  Eric  and Evan Richardson; two sisters, Linda Holmes and Debbie
   Reutershan;  a  brother, Sonny King; and an aunt, Margie Flynn, all of
   Long Island, N.Y.
   
   The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
   
                             SARAH CRAIG TAYLOR
   
   DALLAS  Sarah  Craig Taylor was born Feb. 11, 1947, in San Antonio and
   passed away May 31, 2001, in Dallas, succumbing to ovarian cancer.
   
   She  is survived by her parents, Raymond and Nancy Craig of Ballinger;
   sister,  Candice  Petty  and  husband,  Joe;  niece, Laurel Petty; and
   nephew, Craig Petty.
   
   Sarah  was  educated  at  Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio,
   Texas  Tech  University  in  Lubbock  and  Texas  Womans University in
   Denton. She worked in the oil and gas industry for 25 years, initially
   for  the  late  Leo  Patterson, and for the past 18 years as executive
   assistant  and  corporate  officer  at Texan Petroleum Corp. for R. J.
   Smith Jr. She also assisted designer Sandy Smith and the late Virginia
   Linthicum as business consultant.
   
   Sarah  was  an accomplished artist and designer, creating works in oil
   painting, bronze sculpture, photography and needlework. She had a deep
   appreciation  for gardening, reading and book collecting. She also had
   a  deep  love  for  animals,  caring  for  many, including raising and
   showing American Saddlebreds.
   
   Memorial  service  was Thursday, June 7, in Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral
   Home Chapel with Father Greg Kelly officiating.

   GRACE H. BURLESON
   
   Grace  H.  Burleson,  79,  of San Angelo passed away Tuesday, June 19,
   2001, at her residence.
   
   Family  visitation  was  Wednesday,  June 20, in Robert Massie Funeral
   Home Chapel. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 21, in
   Miller  Cemetery in Wortham. Arrangements are by Robert Massie Funeral
   Home.
   
   Grace  was  born July 15, 1921, in Dallas to Harry and Winnie Hammond.
   She was a beautician and housewife.
   
   She  was preceded in death by her brother, Harry Hammond, and parents,
   Harry and Winnie Hammond.
   
   Survivors  are  her  husband,  S.A.  Burleson of San Angelo; a sister,
   Marjorie  Dorn  of  Mesquite; five nephews, Bruce Coates, Gary Coates,
   Rick  Zakarian,  John Hammond and Vince Hammond; and nieces, Carol Ann
   Gaines and Grace Ann Peterson.
