   He  was born June 11, 1972, in San Angelo and was a lifetime resident.
   He  worked  as  a courier for Federal Express and was a member of Holy
   Angels Catholic Church.
   
   Survivors  include  his  wife,  Tiffany  Banda of San Angelo; one son,
   Christain Banda of San Angelo; his parents, Lupe and Lena Banda of San
   Angelo;  three brothers, Lupe Banda Jr., Mario Banda and Daniel Banda,

   Ella Mae Wooten, 95, of Corpus Christi died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, in a
   nursing home.

   She  was  born  Sept.  9,  1905, in Temple. She was a homemaker and *a

   BRADY  Seferino  B. Medrano, 63, of Brady died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000,
   in a local hospital.
   
   Service  was  Saturday  at  St. Patricks Catholic Church. Arrangements
   were by Leatherwood Memorial Chapels.
   
   He  was  born  Sept.  6,  1937,  in  Parras,  Coah., Mexico, and was a
   longtime resident of Brady. He worked for the Brady Independent School
   District  and  the  Bobby  Hurd Dairy. He was a member of St. Patricks
   Catholic Church.
   
   Survivors include his wife, Paula Medrano of Brady; three sons, Robert
   Medrano,   Jack  Medrano  and  Jimmy  Medrano,  all  of  Brady;  three
   daughters,  Maria  Moore  of  Alexandria,  Va., Tina Huerta and Margie
   Escobar,  both  of Brady; four brothers, Joe Medrano and Juan Medrano,

   hospital.

   She was born April 15, 1916, in the Fly Gap Community of Mason County.
   
   Survivors  include  her  husband,  Wilford  Stockbridge  of Mason; two

   grandchildren, one great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

   She  was  born  July  14,  1929,  in  Steger, Ill., and was a longtime
   resident  of  Big  Spring.  She  worked at Mountain View Lodge and Big
   Spring State Hospital.
   
   Survivors  include  a daughter, Patricia Hunt of Big Spring; a sister,
   Mary Ellen Jankel of Deming, N.M.; one grandson and several nieces and
   nephews.

   FORT STOCKTON Malcolm Arnold Tillotson, 37, of Bellingham, Wash., died
   Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000.

   He  was  born  Jan.  26,  1963,  in  Fort  Stockton. He was a computer

   He  was  born March 31, 1923, in Motley County. He was a ranch foreman

   He was born July 1, 1925, in Brady and was a lifelong resident. He was
   a  residential  and  commercial  builder,  building inspector and real
   estate  investor.  An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of
   the National Guard, American Legion and VFW 3234.
   
   Survivors include his wife, Sydnie Rankin of Brady; a son, Randall Mac
   Randy  Rankin  of  Brady;  a  daughter,  Patricia Kay Trisha Bowles of
   Spring; and two grandchildren.

   GLEN  ROSE Janette Eddy Featherston, 61, of Raleigh, N.C. died Friday,
   Oct. 6, 2000.
   
   She  taught  business  at  Wake  Forest-Rolesville  High School for 18
   years.  She  was  an avid bridge player and enjoyed spending time with
   her grandchildren.
   
   She chose to be buried in her hometown of Glen Rose. Graveside service
   will  be  at  2  p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, in Georges Creek Cemetery in
   Nemo.
   
   Survivors include her husband, Riley Featherston of Raleigh, N.C.; two
   daughters,  Natalie Featherston of Princeton, N.J., and Edith Kerns of
   Selma,  N.C.;  two  grandchildren,  Caroline  and  Grayson  Kerns; her
   mother,  Edith  Eddy  of  Glen  Rose;  a  sister,  Priscilla Talley of
   Cleburne;  a  brother, Doug Eddy of Nemo; and her sister-in-law, JoAnn
   Stout of Big Lake.

   ODESSA  Lillian  M. Franklin was born on Oct. 5, 1918, in Henryetta to
   Morgan  Grey  Franklin  and  Rosa Pearl Childress Franklin. She passed
   away Oct. 6, 2000, in Terrance West Nursing Center in Midland.
   
   Service  will  be  at  2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at Sunset Memorial
   Funeral  Home  Chapel  with  the  Rev.  Steve  Trout  of  First United
   Methodist  Church  officiating.  Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial
   Gardens.
   
   Lillian  was raised in San Angelo and was a graduate of Lake View High
   School.  She married Wilson Franklin on Jan. 28, 1938. He preceded her
   in  death  in 1976. She was a resident of Odessa for 40 years, working
   25  years  as  a  membership  secretary for the First United Methodist
   Church.  Her sister, Luellen Roller and two brothers, Jim Franklin and
   Bob Franklin also preceded her in death.
   
   Survivors  include  her daughters, Sarah Sally Franklin of Midland and
   Marian  Cobb  of  Austin; four grandchildren, Kathy Farmer of Midland,
   Jeff  Votaw  of  Midland,  Lynda  Lawson  of Midland and Jill McCoy of

   served  on  the  Heart of Texas Girl Scout Council, American Cross and
   the  Brownwood  Chamber  of  Commerce.  He  was  a member of the Texas
   Funeral  Directors  Association,  Brownwood  Kiwanis and the Brownwood
   Masonic Lodge.

                              MAC OBERT RANKIN
   
   BRADY  Mac  Obert  Rankin,  75,  died  Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, in San
   Angelo.
   
   Service  will  be  at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at First Christian Church
   with  Dr.  John  Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven
   Cemetery. Arrangements are by Leatherwood Memorial Chapels.
   
   He  was  born July 1, 1925, in Brady to Lonnie Allen Rankin and Monnie
   Mae  McCluskey  Rankin. He married Sydnie Sue Bell Maricle on July 15,
   1961,  in  Brady.  He was a lifelong resident of Brady and a member of
   First Christian Church. He worked as a residential/commercial builder,
   building  inspector and real estate investor. An Army veteran of World
   War II, he was a member of the National Guard for many years. He was a
   Boy  Scout  leader, former church trustee and a member of the American
   Legion and VFW 3234.
   
   He  was  preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie Allen Rankin in 1956
   and  Monnie  Mae  McCluskey  Rankin in 1960, and an infant daughter in
   1964.
   
   Survivors  include  his wife, Sydnie Rankin of Brady; one son, Randall
   Mac Randy Rankin and wife, Tonya, of Brady; one daughter, Patricia Kay
   Trisha  Boyles  and  husband, Boyce, of Spring; a special cousin, Edna
   Earl  Eddie  Ashmore  and  husband, Teddie, of Air Force Village West,
   Riverside,  Calif.;  and two grandchildren, Ashley Danielle Boyles and
   Austin Boyce Boyles.
   
   Pallbearers  will  be  Lupe Lira, W.B. Dub Smith, Larry Garner, Robert
   Barnhill,  Jack  Needham,  Jonathan Weidemann, Sam McCollum and Johnny

   Nakia  Lee Ramirez, 21, of Veribest, died at 2:20 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 8,
   2000.  He was born Nov. 11, 1978, in Pasadena. He was a mechanic and a

   Ricky  Anthony  Banda,  28,  of San Angelo went to be with the Lord on

   Ricky  came  into  our  lives June 11, 1972, in San Angelo. He touched
   each  and  everyone in a very special way. Ricky never met a stranger,
   and  never  hesitated to help someone in need. His love for his family
   was  without  end. He loved life and lived each day to the fullest. He
   was full of humor and showed kindness to others. He will be remembered
   as a loving father, husband, son and friend.
   
   Ricky  attended  and graduated from San Angelo Central High School. He
   married  Tiffany  Philpot  on  Dec. 27, 1997. The Lord blessed him and
   Tiffany  with  a son, Christian Snow, on Jan. 21, 2000. Christian Snow
   was  the  light  of  his  life.  Ricky worked as a courier for Federal
   Express,  was  a  lifetime resident of San Angelo and a member of Holy
   Angels Catholic Church.
   
   Ricky  is survived by his wife, Tiffany Banda; a son, Christian Banda;
   his  parents,  Lupe  and  Lena  Banda; three brothers, Lupe Banda Jr.,
   Mario Banda and Daniel Banda; grandparents, Juanita Esparza, Mary Meza
   and   Daniel   Esparza,   all   of  San  Angelo.  Also  surviving  are
   parents-in-law,  Rick  and  Becky  Philpot  of Jacksonville, Ark., and
   Hector  and  Barbara  Martinez  of  San  Angelo; and several aunts and
   uncles  including  Mr.  and  Mrs. John Banda of Roswell, N.M., Mr. and

   She  was  born Aug. 29, 1916, in Corsicana and was a longtime resident

   She  was born June 14, 1952, in San Angelo. She was a medical supplier

   Hal  Don  Twyford III of Liberal, Kan.; a brother, William L. Williams

   Clarice  Matthews Jones, 89, of Albuquerque, N.M., and formerly of San
   Angelo, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, in Albuquerque.

   Graveside  service  will  be  at 2 p.m. in Rest Haven Memorial Park in
   Brady.
   
   She  was born Sept. 26, 1911, in Shattuck, Okla., and had lived in San
   Angelo  since  1976. She was a public school teacher in Live Oak, Eden
   and Bryan and taught at the University of Texas at El Paso. She served
   with  the  Red Cross during World War II and was a member of the First
   Christian Church.
   
   Survivors  include  one  son,  Duke  Forrest Jones of Socorro, N.M.; a
   brother, Charles Matthews of San Angelo; and two grandchildren.

   SWEETWATER  - Weldon Thomas Lewis, 69, of Midland died Monday, Oct. 9,
   2000, at his residence.
   
   Graveside  service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Sweetwater Cemetery.

   He  was born Jan. 4, 1931, in Sweetwater. A Navy veteran of the Korean
   War,  he  worked  for American National Insurance Co. He was a Baptist
   and  a  member  of  the  Disabled  American  Veterans and the American
   Legion.
   
   Survivors  include  his  wife, Gloria Lewis of Midland; a son, Wade W.
   Lewis  of Angleton; a daughter, Susie Gomez of Midland; three sisters,
   Helen  Watson  of  Dallas, Frances Green of Blackwell and Ann Kiker of
   Mineral Wells; six grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.

   GOLDTHWAITE  -  Ina  Fox,  87,  died  Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, in a local
   nursing home.

   She  was  born  April  15,  1913, in Mullin. She was a homemaker and a

   She  was  born  March  22,  1932,  in  Memphis,  Tenn., and had been a

   Church.

   sons,  Manuel  Guerra  and Domingo Guerra Jr., both of Big Spring; one

   He  was  born Dec. 17, 1923, in Barnsdall, Okla. He was a car salesman

   Survivors  include  his wife, Jean Emerson of Big Spring; a son, Scott
   Emerson  of Big Spring; a daughter, Janie Leary of Midland; a stepson,

   ODESSA - Wesley Newman Minton, 62, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at his
   residence.

   Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
   
   He  was born March 3, 1938, in Snyder. He worked for the pipelines and
   the  railroad  in  Sierra Blanca, Slaton, Odessa and Midland. He was a
   member of Odessa Christian Faith Center.
   
   Survivors include his wife, Laverne Minton of Odessa; three daughters,
   Julie  Worster  of  Sanderson,  Resa  Tyree of Fort Stockton and Heidi
   Gesch of Spur; and six grandchildren.

   in an Iraan hospital.

   He  was  born Jan. 28, 1925, in Carlsbad. An Army veteran of World War
   II,  he  worked  in  ranching  and  oil field operations and owned the
   Camino Restaurant.
   
   Survivors  include his wife, Edna M. "Snooks" Collett of Iraan; a son,
   James    Collett    of    McCamey;    four   grandchildren   and   two
   great-grandchildren.

   WINTERS - Ottis Kirby, 97, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, in Abilene.

   He was born Jan. 16, 1903, in Ellis County and was a longtime resident
   of Winters.
   
   He  was  a  farmer,  a  truck  driver  for  Banner Ice Co. and owned a
   laundry. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a Methodist.
   
   Survivors  include  a  son,  Bobby  Kirby  of Abilene; a daughter, Pat
   Miller  of  Merkel;  seven  grandchildren,  13 great-grandchildren and
   eight great-great-grandchildren.

                           SEPTIMA BARLOW ANDREW
   
   Septima Barlow Andrew, 89, of San Angelo died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, in
   a local hospital.
   
   The  family will be available for visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. today at
   405  Rio  Concho Drive East #313. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m.
   Wednesday,  Oct.  11,  in  Fairmount Cemetery with the Rev. Flynn Long
   officiating. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home.
   
   Mrs.  Andrew  was  born  July 29, 1911, in Cleburne, to Finis and Nora
   Manire  Barlow.  She married Hunter Andrew in 1937 in San Angelo. Mrs.
   Andrew  was  the personal secretary for Robert Carr for many years and
   was a member of St. Mark Presbyterian Church.
   
   Septima  was  preceded  in  death  by  her parents, her husband, and a
   sister, Jane Margaret Rigsby.
   
   Survivors  include  a  sister,  Nonie Green of San Angelo; two nieces,
   Septima  Green  of  Fort  Worth and Anne Talbot and husband, Brian, of
   Lake Oswego, Ore.; a nephew, Radford Barlow Rigsby and wife, Nancy, of
   Rehoboth,  Mass.;  a  great-niece,  Elizabeth  Barlow  Talbott of Lake
   Oswego;  a great-nephew, William Radford Talbott of Lake Oswego; and a
   special friend, Mary Lovell.
   
   The  family requests memorials be made to St. Mark Presbyterian Church
   or a favorite charity.
   
                            JANE MORRELL HUDSON
   
   Jane  Morrell Hudson, surrounded by her husband and daughters, went to
   be with her Lord and Savior on Oct. 8, 2000. She was 78 years old. She
   was  born  April  4,  1922, in Dallas to L.N. Shanty and Edith Gribble
   Morrell. She was a Presbyterian.
   
   She  grew up in Dallas, graduating from North Dallas High School. Jane
   married  Charles  E. Buck Hudson in 1944, and had three daughters. Her
   smile  and  her  laughter  will  be missed very much. She was known as
   "Gran" to her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, and took great joy
   in  having  them  in  her  life. The love she gave and the lessons she
   taught  will  be passed on for generations. She will be remembered for
   her strong will, her wit, and her sense of humor. She loved music, and
   her favorite hymn was "In the Garden."
   
   She was preceded in death by her parents.
   
   Jane  is  survived  by  her husband of 56 years, Charles; one brother,
   Lawrence G. Morrell; one sister, Helen Riddler; three daughters, Julie
   Beadle  and  husband,  Mike, Nancy Hunter and husband, Larry, and Edie
   Garcia;  grandchildren,  James  Beadle,  Gary Beadle and wife, Cheryl,
   Laurie  Kuykendall and husband, Chris, Scott Hunter and wife, Shelise,
   Amy   McKelvy   and   husband,   Luke,  Daunya  Byrd  and  Ryon  Byrd;
   great-grandchildren,  Braden  and  Zachary Kuykendall, Justin and Kara
   Beadle, and Hayzen, Hudson and Houston Hunter.
   
   The  family  would  like  to  say a special thanks to VistaCare Family
   Hospice  for all the support the staff gave during this difficult time
   and to Dora and Nicole for the love and special care they gave.

                              EDNA DUNK LAWLER
   
   JUNCTION  -  Edna  Dunk  Lawler,  98, of Junction died Sunday, Oct. 8,
   2000, in a Kerrville hospital.
   
   She is survived by one daughter, Mary Francis Tomlinson of Taylor; her
   son-in-law and his wife, Cecil and Mary Ann Woodard of Junction; three
   grandchildren,  Paula  Locke  of Kerrville, Hayden Woodard of Junction
   and   Becky   Hargis   of   Austin;   five   great-grandchildren;  one
   great-great-grandchild;  and  numerous  nieces  and  nephews.  She was
   predeceased  by  her husband, Hayden Lawler; a daughter, Irma Woodard;
   and a great-grandson, Hunter Hargis.
   
   Mrs.  Lawler  was  born  in  Bastrop County in 1901 and came to Kimble
   County  by wagon in 1902. She settled with her parents, Frank and Mary
   Dunk,  and  five  brothers  and sisters in the Copperas community. She
   attended  the  one  room Copperas School and learned to play the organ
   and  piano - a skill she put to use at many church and social meetings
   at Cedar Hill, Roosevelt, Copperas and eventually at the First Baptist
   Church in Junction.
   
   After  marriage,  she  moved  with  her  husband  in  pursuit of their
   business  interests  to  Luling and then San Antonio. They founded and
   operated  Alamo Freight Lines Inc. and eventually returned to Junction
   in  1946 where they ranched on Alamo Ranch in the Bear Creek community
   until retirement.
   
   Mrs.  Lawler  was a member of La Junta Study Club, a charter member of
   the  Kimble  County Hospital Auxiliary, and held numerous positions of
   service  at  the  First  Baptist  Church  of Junction, where she was a
   member  for  more  than  50  years.  She was an artist of note and her
   paintings are found in homes and public buildings in the area.
   
   Service  will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, at First Baptist Church
   with burial following in Junction Cemetery. Arrangements are by Aubrey
   Fife Funerals.
   
   To   her   family   she   was  known  as  "Nana."  She  loved  us  all
   unconditionally  and supported us in many ways throughout her life. We
   will  be  forever  thankful  to  God  that  she  belonged to us and we

   He  was  born  April  14,  1923,  in Eddyville, Ky. and was a longtime

   Septima Barlow Andrew, 89, of San Angelo died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, in
   a local hospital.

   Cemetery  with  the  Rev.  Flynn Long officiating. Arrangements are by

   Mrs.  Andrew  was  born  July 29, 1911, in Cleburne, to Finis and Nora
   Manire  Barlow.  She married Hunter Andrew in 1937 in San Angelo. Mrs.
   Andrew  was  the personal secretary for Robert Carr for many years and
   was a member of St. Mark Presbyterian Church.
   
   Septima  was  preceded  in  death  by  her parents, her husband, and a
   sister, Jane Margaret Rigsby.
   
   Survivors  include  a  sister,  Nonie Green of San Angelo; two nieces,
   Septima  Green  of  Fort  Worth and Anne Talbot and husband, Brian, of
   Lake Oswego, Ore.; a nephew, Radford Barlow Rigsby and wife, Nancy, of
   Rehoboth,  Mass.;  a  great-niece,  Elizabeth  Barlow  Talbott of Lake
   Oswego;  a great-nephew, William Radford Talbott of Lake Oswego; and a

   BRYAN - Thomas Edward "Ed" Whiteley, 70, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at
   his residence in Bryan after a lengthy illness.
   
   Service  will  be  at  2  p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at the First Baptist
   Church with Tim Owens officiating.
   
   Ed  Whiteley  was  born  Jan. 2, 1930, in Voca, Texas and had lived in
   Bryan  for  two  years.  He had a master's degree from Southwest Texas
   State University and was a teacher-coach and school superintendent. He
   was  a  member  of  the  First Baptist Church and the Retired Teachers
   Association.
   
   He  was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Ollie Whiteley, and
   grandparents, John and Ida Whiteley and Charles and Mary Burns.
   
   He  is  survived  by  his  wife, Dora Barsch Whiteley of Bryan; a son,
   Kenneth  Wade  Whiteley  of San Antonio; a daughter, Paula Bernard and
   husband,  Bernie, of College Station; and three grandchildren, Tiffany
   Whiteley  of  San  Antonio and Austin McBroom and Amy McBroom, both of
   College Station.

   Myrtle  Modelle Hayley, 87, of San Angelo died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000,
   in a local nursing center.

   Modelle  was  born March 12, 1913, in Bronte, Texas. She married Royce
   Hayley July 5, 1931, in Sweetwater. He preceded her in death March 15,
   1991.  Modelle was a retired medical assistant for Dr. Harvey Williams
   Sr.
   
   Survivors  include her nephew, Glenn Sims of Abilene; a sister-in-law,
   Mrs.  T.F.  (Pauline)  Sims of Abilene; two great-nephews, Dr. Shaughn
   Sims of Abilene and Lance Sims of San Angelo.
   
                          WILLARD GREGORY LaBARGE
   
   HAYWARD,  Calif.  -  Willard  Gregory  LaBarge,  a 43-year resident of
   Alameda County, was born, one of eight children, in California on Aug.
   19,  1921,  to  Albert Sanford and Agnes Frances (Tivenen) LaBarge. He
   served  in  the  U.S.  Army  during  World  War  II  and was honorably
   discharged  in  1945.  He was married to his wife, Mary, for 49 years,
   who  passed away exactly 10 years ago on Sept. 12, 1990. He was a true
   "Peterbilt" truck driver for more than 50 years and drove his truck to
   the end. His grandchildren brought him much joy and happiness.
   
   Willard  passed  away  after  a  lengthy  battle  with  cancer, Monday
   afternoon,  Oct.  9,  2000,  in  Hayward.  He is survived by his seven
   children,  Michael  LaBarge and his wife, Jodi, Virginia Gomes and her
   husband,  Herbert,  Greg  LaBarge and his wife, Diana, Tim LaBarge and
   his  wife, Vicki (he always liked Vicki best), Jeanette Jensen and her
   husband,  Steve,  Bennie  LaBarge  and  his wife, Denise, and Kristina
   Lindgren   and  her  husband,  Bob;  his  11  grandchildren  and  five
   great-grandchildren;  David and Jill Gomes and their sons, Garrett and
   Kade,  Shane  and  Missy  LaBarge  and  their sons, Kramer and Keegan,
   Christopher  LaBarge,  Dina  Gomes,  Dedra and Dan Knox and their son,
   Scott,  Renee  LaBarge,  Jon  LaBarge, Jeff LaBarge, Nathaniel Jensen,
   Annelie  Lindgren  and Jamie Lindgren; his brothers, Jimmy LaBarge and
   Bobby LaBarge; and his sisters, Pat LaBarge and Mary Edmonston.
   
   Friends  are  invited  to  attend  a graveside ceremony departing from
   Sorenson  Brothers  Mortuary,  at  1140  B St. in Hayward at 1 p.m. on
   Thursday, Oct. 12, and thence to Lone Tree Cemetery in Hayward.

   III, and a niece.
   
   Katharine  is survived by her husband, Hal Twyford II of San Angelo; a
   daughter,  La Marsha Twyford of San Angelo; a son, Hal Don Twyford III
   of  Liberal, Kan.; one brother, William L. Williams IV and wife, Judy,
   of San Angelo; one sister, Thelma Ruth Nelson of San Angelo; one aunt,
   Lyda  Williams  of  San  Angelo;  four grandchildren of San Angelo and
   three  grandchildren  of Kingsland; and one niece, Deborah Williams of
   Liberal, Kan.

                            R. JAMES "JIM" OWENS
   
   Jim  Owens  of  San  Angelo  died  Sunday,  Oct.  8,  2000, in a local
   hospital.
   
   Memorial  service  was  Wednesday,  Oct. 11, in Johnson's Funeral Home
   Chapel with military honors.
   
   Jim was born June 17, 1928, in Charlotte, N.C. He enlisted in the Navy
   in 1946 and served for four years. He attended the University of South
   Carolina for a year and then enlisted in the Air Force in 1951. He was
   married to Alberta "Berta" Owens in Kansas City, Mo., in 1953.
   
   Jim  was  assigned  to  various  commands,  including  the Air Defense
   Command, Strategic Air Command and Air Force Security Service. Jim and
   his  wife,  Berta,  came  to San Angelo in 1959 and he was assigned to
   Goodfellow Air Force Base as a student.
   
   After six years of overseas service in Crete, Greece and West Germany,
   he returned to San Angelo in 1966 and was assigned as an instructor at
   GAFB.  He  was  transferred  to  West  Germany in 1969 and returned to
   Goodfellow in 1972, retiring in 1974 as a master sergeant.
   
   Jim  received  a  bachelor's  degree  in  journalism from Angelo State
   University  in 1979. He was a staff writer and business editor for the
   San Angelo Standard-Times and retired in 1994.
   
   He  was  preceded  in  death  by  his  wife,  Berta,  in January 1993.
   Survivors  include  two  daughters,  Carolyn Alexander of Kansas City,
   Mo.,  and  Saundra  J. Smith of Topeka, Kan.; one son, Robert Stone of
   Reno,  Nev.;  one  brother,  John  Owens  of  Henrietta, N.Y.; and one
   sister, Caroline Kamensky of Indian Shores, Fla.

   Beulah  Dillard, 88, of San Angelo passed away Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000,
   in San Angelo Community Hospital.
   
   The family will receive visitors at Johnson's Funeral Home from 7 p.m.
   to  8:30  p.m.  Thursday,  Oct. 12. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m.
   Friday,  Oct. 13, in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger

   Beulah  was  born Dec. 11, 1911, in Comanche County. She married Frank
   Dillard  in 1933 in Coleman. Mrs. Dillard was a member of Park Heights
   Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
   
   Beulah was preceded in death by her husband in 1984. Survivors include
   her  children,  Frances Newman, Nora Williams and husband, Lester, Joe
   Dillard  and  wife,  Beckey,  Robert  Dillard  and  wife, Ferrell, and
   Elizabeth  Lawson  and  husband,  Larry;  grandchildren, Terry Newman,
   Louise  Woods,  Janet  Lenox,  Mark  Dillard,  Cindy Piper, Linda Lee,
   Robert  Dillard  Jr.  and  Donald  Branch; five great-grandchildren; a
   sister, Robbie Mayes; and several nieces and nephews.

   Clarice  Matthews  Jones, 89, of Albuquerque, N.M., and formerly of El
   Paso and San Angelo, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, in Albuquerque.
   
   Service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13, in Robert Massie Riverside
   Chapel with the Rev. Ben Hubert officiating. Graveside service will be
   at 2 p.m. in Rest Haven Memorial Park in Brady.
   
   Clarice  was  born  Sept.  26,  1911, in Shattuck, Okla., to Clyde and
   Nannie  Duke  Matthews.  She  graduated from West Texas State Teachers
   College,  did  graduate  work at Northwestern and taught in the public
   schools  at  Live  Oak,  Eden  and  Bryan. She married Olen Sanders of
   Bryan,  and  he  preceded  her in death. She served with the Red Cross
   during  World  War  II  and  in  1946  she  joined  the faculty at the
   University  of  Texas at El Paso. She married Virgil Forrest Jones and
   later  retired  from the university. They moved to San Angelo in 1976,
   and he preceded her in death in 1996. Clarice was a lifetime member of
   the First Christian Church.
   
   She  is  survived by one son, Duke Forrest Jones and wife, Martha, and
   grandchildren,  Natalie  and  Sammy of Socorro, N.M.; and one brother,
   Charles Matthews and wife, Juanita, of San Angelo.

   in Sonora. He preceded her in death on Sept. 18, 1988.

   MONAHANS  - Randolph E. Shoemate, 81, of Wickett died Friday, Oct. 13,
   2000, at his residence.
   
   Service  will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Bethel Baptist Church with burial
   in  Monahans  Memorial  Cemetery.  Arrangements  are by Harkey Funeral
   Home.
   
   He  was  born  May  11, 1919, in Graham and was a longtime resident of
   Wickett.  An Army veteran of World War II, he was a retired pumper for
   Mobil Oil. He was a Baptist.
   
   Survivors  include  his  wife,  Christine  Shoemate of Wickett; a son,
   Richard  Lee  Shoemate  of  Lubbock;  a  brother,  Richard Shoemate of
   Graham; and two grandchildren.

   FORT  STOCKTON - Maria F. Subia, 91, of Austin died Thursday, Oct. 12,
   2000 in Austin.
   
   Service  will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with
   burial  in  St.  Joseph  Cemetery.  Arrangements  are by Fort Stockton
   Funeral Home.
   
   She  was  born  July  6,  1909,  in  Pecos.  She was a homemaker and a
   Catholic.
   
   Survivors  include four daughters, Aurora Riojaz of Round Rock, Alicia
   Castelo  of  El  Paso,  Alvina  Porras  of Odessa, and Amelia Casas of
   Austin;  a  sister,  Dominga  Subia  of Norwalk, Calif.; two brothers,
   Eulalio  Funetes  of  Reno,  Nev.,  and  Refugio Fuentes of Denton; 17

   MENARD - Herbert H. Jones, 80, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, in Houston.
   
   Service  will  be at 1 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with burial

   He  was  born Nov. 4, 1919, in Ingram. He was an Army veteran of World
   War II.

                         LILLIE WYNELLE BISHOP POPE
   
   EDEN  - Lillie Wynelle Bishop Pope, 66, passed away Thursday, Oct. 12,
   2000,  in  Concho  County  Hospital.  Born in Brady on April 24, 1934,
   Wynelle  and  her late husband, J.L. Bishop, owned and operated Bishop
   House  Moving.  A dedicated wife and mother, Wynelle had a passion for
   her friends, family, dancing and golf.
   
   She  moved  to Eden from Kerrville in 1985, where she met Calvin Pope.
   They were married Dec. 7, 1998, at the First Baptist Church in Menard.
   A  resident  of  Eden  for  the past 15 years, Wynelle will be greatly
   missed by all of her family and friends.
   
   Survivors include her husband, Calvin Pope of Eden; her mother, Lillie
   Mae  Brandon  of  Eden;  one brother, Buddy Brandon of Sonora; and two
   daughters,  Debora  K.  Mayfield  and her husband, Bob, of Lubbock and
   Pamela Sue Hunter and her husband, Robert, of Lubbock. Other survivors
   include  four grandchildren, Tammy K. Mayfield of Mason, Trey Mayfield
   and  wife, Donna, of Lubbock, Leigh Ann Dannheim and husband, Kody, of
   Mason,  Jason  Lloyd Coates and fiancee, Teresa Rogers, of San Angelo;
   and  six  [cc20]great-grandchildren,  Haygen Dannheim, Alexis Cheyenne
   Mayfield, Jaden Seth Coates, Randi, Raylee and Matt Walker.
   
   She  was  preceded  in  death  by  her first husband, J.L. Bishop; her
   father, Willie A. Brandon; and four [cc24]great-grandchildren.
   
   Graveside  service  will  be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, in the Eden
   Cemetery with Pastors Steven Tompkins and Scott Tompkins officiating.
   
   The  family  would like to thank Dr. John Boyd and Dr. Don Klinger and
   the  entire  nursing  staff of Concho County Hospital for their loving
   care.  Special  thanks  and  appreciation to nurse Lynn Neal and other
   members  of  Hospice of San Angelo who helped Wynelle and her husband,
   Calvin, in their time of need. Our prayers are with you.

                             BESSIE LEE GRAYSON
   
   Bessie  L.  Grayson,  80,  of San Angelo joined her Lord and Savior on
   Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000. She is now rejoicing for eternity with family
   members and her husband who had preceded her in death.
   
   Service  will  be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, in Johnson's Funeral Home
   Chapel. Graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. in Robert Lee Cemetery.
   Officiating  will  be  the Rev. Lakan Mariano of College Hills Baptist
   Church and the Rev. Robert L. Franklin of Monroe, Ga.
   
   Bessie  was  born Nov. 26, 1919, in Clarksville, Texas, to Lula B. and
   R.  Lee  Franklin.  She  was  raised in the Clarksville area where she
   would  later  meet and marry her husband of 51 years, J.T. Grayson, on
   his  return  from World War II. Bessie was proud to have supported the
   war effort by working at the Red River Arsenal near Clarksville.
   
   In  1955 she and her husband moved to Kingsville, Texas. There she was
   employed  by  University  Grocery and later by the Naval Exchange. She
   retired in 1988.
   
   In  1996  Bessie  and  J.T. moved to San Angelo to be near her family.
   Bessie  was a resident of Baptist Memorials Retirement Community where
   she had many friends.
   
   Throughout  her life Bessie was active in church work. Until her later
   years,  she  sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and worked in the
   church  nursery.  She  was  an  active member of College Hills Baptist
   Church. Bessie's life was an inspiration to her family, her church and
   her many, many friends and will be missed by all.
   
   She  was  preceded  in  death  by  her  husband, J.T. Grayson; and two
   brothers,  Earl and Richard Franklin. Survivors include one son, Jesse
   Bailey  ``J.B.''  Grayson  and  his  wife,  Debby,  of San Angelo; two
   granddaughters,  Lauri  Michelle  Herndon  and  husband, Randy, of San
   Angelo  and Kristy Lynn Brody and husband, Patrick, of San Angelo; one
   great-granddaughter,  Samantha  Rachele ``Gigi's Girl'' Herndon of San
   Angelo;  two  brothers, Robert L. Franklin and wife, Dixie, of Monroe,
   Ga.,  and  Raymond  Franklin  and wife, Lou Ada, of Bogata, Texas; one
   sister, Ruth Stanphil of Dallas; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins
   and a much cherished and loved extended family.
   
                               MORA LEE WEST
   
   Mora Lee ``Honey'' West, 85, of Eldorado died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at
   her  residence.  Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at First
   Baptist  Church  in  Eldorado  with  the  Rev.  Andy Anderson, pastor,
   officiating. Burial will follow in Eldorado Cemetery. Arrangements are
   by Johnson's Funeral Home. Viewing will be at the First Baptist Church
   in Eldorado on Saturday morning.
   
   Mora  Lee  was born April 30, 1915, in Sonora. Her parents were Ben F.
   Meckel  and Myrtle Davis Meckel, who was the daughter of J.L. Davis, a
   noted  early-day  Texas  Ranger  and  Sonora  sheriff.  She  had three
   sisters,  Exa  Davis,  Doris  Love  and Geraldine Faye; and a brother,
   James Lavelle Meckel.
   
   Mora  Lee's father Ben herded goats throughout the Sonora countryside.
   In  1918  he  bought the Eli Taylor Ranch, south of Sonora and in 1924
   moved  into  the  J.L.  Davis  Ranch,  north  of  Sonora.  During  the
   Depression  they  bought  a  ranch and an adjoining farm in Schleicher
   County.
   
   Mora  Lee  graduated  from  Sonora  High School in 1932, where she was
   active in baseball and basketball. She entered Baptist Hospital School
   of  Nursing  in  San  Angelo,  but  because of the Depression she left
   nursing  school  to  live with her aunt in Dallas. She returned a year
   later  and was married to William Floyd ``Jimmie'' West Sr. on May 17,
   1934,  in  Sonora.  On  Oct. 1, 1944, Jimmie and Mora Lee moved to the
   Schleicher  County  ranch, 10 miles north of Eldorado where they built
   their  present day ranch home in 1955 and worked raising Angus cattle,
   Rambouillet  sheep and Angora goats. He preceded her in death on Sept.
   18, 1988.
   
   Mora  Lee  was  an  avid bridge player and was a charter member of the
   Eldorado  Bridge  Club,  which  has met each Wednesday in Eldorado for
   more  than 50 years. She also supported the West Texas Boys Ranch, the
   Eldorado  Library, the Winnie Helen Ratliff Little Theater of Eldorado
   and  the Volunteer Fire Department/EMS of Schleicher County. She was a
   member of the First Baptist Church in Eldorado.
   
   Survivors  include  her  daughter,  Barbara  West Clark of Boerne; two
   sons,  Charles F. West of Clayton, N.M., and William Floyd West Jr. of
   Eldorado;  10  grandchildren,  Charles Shane West, Carlton Schel West,
   Cove  Henderson  West,  Charetta  West, Shannon Lee West, Vincent Dale
   Clark,  Kenneth  Lynn  Clark Jr., Dr. Charles Lee Clark, William Kelly
   Clark  and  Allyson  Clark;  one great-granddaughter, Gabriella Nicole
   Clark;  nephew,  Phil  Pring;  nieces,  Darlene Barrow Hardesty, Becky
   Tittle Hartje and Debra Tittle Hill.
   
   Pallbearers  will  be  Vincent  Clark, Charlie Clark, Cove West, Shane
   West,  Schel  West,  Kenny Clark and Kelly Clark. Honorary pallbearers
   will be Allyson Clark, Shannon West and Charetta West.
   
   Memorials  may  be given to any of her favorite charities or a charity
   of the donor's choice.
   
                                  GENE LAY
   
   Gene  Lay,  a  San  Angelo  native,  born  Nov.  10, 1936, passed away
   peacefully Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at the age of 63 after an extended
   illness.  Service  will  be  at  10  a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at St. Paul
   Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
   Johnson's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
   
   Gene retired from GTE after 27 years of service.
   
   Gene is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Sondra; and his three
   children  and  their  spouses,  Kim  Lay of San Angelo, Lisa and Kevin
   Springer of McKinney and Melanie and Mike Stone of Bangs. Gene also is
   survived by grandchildren, Brooke Lay, Sara Beckwith, Joshua and Jacob
   Beckwith,  Logan  Stone,  Caleb  Stone  and  Kyndal  Springer; and one
   great-granddaughter, Amanda Nicole. He also is survived by his mother,
   Sara  Lay;  brothers,  James,  Walter  and  Jerry; and sisters, Teresa
   Lazicki, Becky Edwards, Janell Morse and Betty Compton.
   
   Gene was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a great friend. His
   humor, love and guidance will be missed.
   
   Memorials  may be made to St. Paul Presbyterian Church or Christmas in
   April.
   
                             RAUL D. GUTIERREZ
   
   Raul  D.  Gutierrez, 79, of Del Rio and formerly of San Angelo, passed
   away Thursday, Oct. 12, 20000, in Del Rio.
   
   Rosaries  will  be  at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, and at 7 p.m. Sunday,
   Oct.  15,  in  Del  Rio Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 9
   a.m.  Monday,  Oct.  16,  at  Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Del Rio.
   Military  graveside  service  will  be  Monday  afternoon  in Fort Sam
   Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
   
   Mr.  Gutierrez  was  born  July  2, 1921, in Piedras Negras, Coahuila,
   Mexico.
   
   He  had  served  terms  as  president  of the Holy Name Society of St.
   Joseph's  Catholic  Church  in Del Rio during which time he was one of
   the  founders of the St. Joseph's Catholic School. In 1967 he moved to
   San  Angelo  where  he started working for the National Life Insurance
   Co. and eventually retired in 1983. He received sales awards.
   
   During  the  years  of  1967 and 1983 he was an active Southside Lions
   Club  member.  In  the  '70s  he  served on the board of the Tom Green
   County Community Action Council here in San Angelo and served as their
   president  for one term. After moving back to Del Rio he became active
   with  the  Jesus Limones Chapter of the American Legion in Del Rio and
   served as the president for two years. Last year he was honored by the
   chapter for his unending service to the chapter.
   
   Survivors  include two sons, Arnoldo M. Gutierrez and Eddie Gutierrez,
   both  of San Angelo; a daughter, Maria Cecilia Melendez of San Angelo;
   two  brothers,  Juan  Antonio  Gutierrez  of  San  Antonio and Oswaldo
   Gutierrez of Del Rio; three sisters, Maria del Rosario Rubin and Maria
   Luisa  Gutierrez,  both  of  Del  Rio,  and  Angelina Gutierrez of San
   Antonio.   Survivors   also   include   nine  grandchildren  and  four
   great-grandchildren.
   
   Family  requests  memorials be sent to Lions Crippled Children Camp in
   Kerrville or the March of Dimes.
