God saw you were getting tired,
And a cure was not to be -
So He put His arms around you
   And whispered, ``Come to Me.''
With tearful eyes, we saw you suffer
   And watched you fade away.
   Although we love you dearly,
We could not make you stay.
   A golden heart stopped beating,
   - Hard-working hands to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
   He only takes the best.
   It's lonesome here without you
   - we miss you more each day.
   Life doesn't seem the same,
   since you have gone away.
When days are sad and lonely,
   and everything goes wrong.
We seem to hear you whisper,
   ``Cheer up and carry on!''
Each time we see your picture,
we seem to hear you say,
   ``Don't cry. I'm in God's hands,
   we'll meet again someday!''
A million times we've missed you,
   a million times we've cried.
If love could have saved you,
   you never would have died!

MIDLAND - Samuel E. Nichols, 81, of San Angelo passed away at his

He was born in Eula to Samuel B. and Ollie (Edwards) Nichols. He was a
photographer, singer/musician, actor, truck driver and most of all the
greatest daddy in the world. Sam Nichols started his career in music
in 1936, when he started working for KGKL radio station in San Angelo.
A little more than a year later he was singing on the most powerful
radio station of its time, XPEN, out of Piedras Negras, Mexico. He
started in the country music business with such well-known singers and
actors, like Gene Autry, Earnest Tubb and ``The Sons of the
   Pioneers.''

When World War II broke out, he volunteered for service in the United
States Navy as a photographer on the USS Suwannee. He took many
fabulous pictures of the devastation World War II had on the men and
women who fought. One of the most prized photos is the surrender of
the Japanese delegation with Gen. Douglas MacArthur and Admiral
Nimitz. After the war, Sam returned to his career in music. In 1969 he
moved back to where it all began, San Angelo, and completely got out
