Fern L. Mikeska, 67, of Midland died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, in a local
nursing home. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Johnson's Funeral
Home Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Tallas of Wall Brethren Church officiating. She
was born Dec. 22, 1930, in Concho County. She was a teacher for 40 years,
teaching in Plains, Ozona, Germany and Kermit. Survivors include a brother,
J.E. Mikeska of Albany; two sisters, Ever Mikeska of San Angelo and Glyn Turney
of Albany; two nephews; and five nieces.
Dorris Osburn
ABILENE - Dorris Dee Willmann Osburn, 82, of Abilene died Thursday, Nov. 12,
1998, in Fredericksburg. Service will be at 10 a.m. today at the First
Christian Church with graveside service at 3 p.m. in Gooch Cemetery in Mason.
Arrangements are by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. She was born in
Mason and had lived in Abilene since 1945. She was a homemaker and a member of
First Christian Church. Survivors include a son, Richard S. Osburn of San
Antonio; a daughter, Dorris Ann Pierson of Mason; a sister, Evelyn Boleyn of
Mason; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces,
nephews and cousins.
Ramon Hernandez
OZONA - Ramon Hernandez, 75, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, in a local care
center. Service will be at 3 p.m. today at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic
Church with burial in Lima Cemetery. Arrangements are by Preddy Funeral Home.
He was born Jan. 22, 1923, in Villa Union, Coahuila, Mexico, and had lived in
Ozona for 45 years. He was a Catholic. Survivors include a daughter, Juanita De
La Rosa of Ozona; a son, Joe Hernandez of Oklahoma; a brother, Oscar Hernandez
of San Antonio; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Nora Featherston
GOLDTHWAITE - Nora Smith Featherston, 85, of Andrews and formerly of
Goldthwaite, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998, in Andrews. Service will be at 3 p.m.
today at the Assembly of God Church with burial in Goldthwaite Memorial
Cemetery. Arrangements are by Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home. She was born Dec. 4,
1912, in Bertram. She was a homemaker, a nurse's aide and a member of the
Assembly of God Church. Survivors include a daughter, Wanda Stinnett of Round
Rock; a son, Charlie Featherston of Andrews; a brother, Edward Smith of
Lampasas; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

KERRVILLE - George Martin Miller, 63, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998, in a local
hospital. Service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Grimes Funeral Chapels. He was
born Oct. 14, 1935, in Mankato, Minn., and had lived in Kerrville for seven
years. He was a Navy veteran and a machine tool pricing controller. Survivors
include his wife, Linda Miller of Kerrville; seven children, Jamie Miller and
Shawn Miller, both of Kerrville, and Greg Miller, Becky Kersten, Mike Miller,
Bob Miller and Amy Ehrich, all of Minnesota; a sister, Yvonne Miller of
Kerrville; and several grandchildren.
Angelica Samaniego
SONORA - Angelica D. Samaniego, 67, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998, in a local
nursing home. Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ann's Catholic
Church with burial in Sonora Cemetery. Arrangements are by Kerbow Funeral Home.
She was born March 19, 1931, in Brackettville and was a longtime resident of
Sonora. She was a homemaker and a Catholic. Survivors include a son, Chris
Samaniego of Houston; a daughter, Sylvia Martinez of Sonora; a brother, Juan
Dominguez of Ozona; and two grandchildren.

JERRY FOX
Jerry Fox, 66, of San Angelo died Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998, in a local hospital.
Memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Johnson's
Funeral Home. Mr. Fox was born Oct. 13, 1932, in New York City, N.Y., to
Phillip and Rebecca Fox. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Mr. Fox married Barbara Ganster Feb. 7, 1971, in Raleigh, N.C. He was a retired
electronic technician. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Fox of San Angelo;
five children, Stan Fox, Stacey Huber and fiance, Buddy Thigpen, and Stacy Fox,
all of San Angelo, Dan Fox and wife, Carol, of Wisconsin and Donna Root and
husband, Joel, of New Jersey; nine grandchildren, Christy Fox, Aaron Fox,
Daniel Huber, Dianna Huber, Brittany Davis, Andrew Fox, Bryan Fox, Alan Root
and Rachel Root; a brother, Sy Fox of Florida; four sisters, Patty Leinwand,
Thelma Ligator and Shelly Riga, all of New York, and Rhonda Miller of Ohio; and
eight nieces and nephews.
BILL JOHNSON
Bill Johnson, 68, of San Angelo died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998. Graveside service
will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16, in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, officiated
by the Rev. David Strange, pastor of Concho Valley Baptist Church, and Dr.
Young Houston. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. Bill was born Oct.
11, 1930, in Mercury, Texas, to Ed and Vivian Johnson. He married La Verne
Fields Sept. 19, 1955, in San Angelo. Bill had retired from the Southwestern
Welding Supply Co. after 40 years and had recently worked for J&T Welding. Bill
had been a member of the Concho Riders Club, and was a member and had held
offices in the American Sheriff's Posse Association. He loved doing things
outdoors, especially horsemanship and hunting. Survivors include his wife, La
Verne Johnson of San Angelo; his son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Dorothy
Johnson of San Angelo; his daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Bob Perry of
Dallas; one granddaughter, Stephanie Perry of Dallas; and several cousins,
nieces and nephews. Bill will be greatly missed by his loving family and his
many dear and special friends. The family requests memorials be made to West
Texas Boys Ranch.Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with Paul Shero officiating.
Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. J.T. was born Dec. 8, 1922,
in Woodson and had been a resident of San Angelo since 1968. He worked for Jim
Bass Ford for 30 years and was a member of Southgate Church of Christ. He was a
sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. J.T. was married to Clara Reid
in 1947 in Eliasville. J.T. was preceded in death by his parents, L.T. and Eula
Oliver; and two sisters, Adelle Forrest and Norma Aschbrenner. Survivors
include his wife, Clara Oliver of San Angelo; two sons, Alan Oliver and wife,
Sue, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mark Oliver of Tulsa, Okla.; one brother,
Rayberne Oliver of Rule; and his grandson, Josh Oliver. Pallbearers will be
Raymond Livergood, Joe Key, Leon Gucman, George O'Neal, Larry Gregory and Mike
Lomas. The family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of San Angelo.

3, 1922, in Kerrville. Survivors include a sister, Amy Taylor of Carlsbad;

are by Mason Funeral Home. He was born Oct. 20, 1910, in Harris County and was
a longtime resident of Mason. He was a pastor in Methodist churches in Mertzon,
Barnhart, Junction, Art, Castell-Hilda and Fredonia. Survivors include his
wife, Johnita Bohmfalk of Mason; a daughter, Joan Ullrich; a son, Robert
Bohmfalk of Seguin; two brothers, the Rev. Ben Bohmfalk of Lampasas and Paul

ODESSA - Ruth Crawford, 93, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998, in a local nursing

arrangements are by Leatherwood Colonial Funeral Home. She was born Dec. 14,
1904, in Nine and had been a resident of Odessa since 1989, moving from Brady.
She was a retired school teacher and a member of Bethany Christian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Calley of Odessa; three sons, Frank
Crawford of Brownfield, Jim Crawford of Grandfalls and Dan Crawford of Grand

KINGSLAND - Mildred Marcuse Tate, 88, of Austin died Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998,

Funeral Home. She was born July 31, 1910, in Manor. She worked as a clerk for
the Internal Revenue Service and was a member of the Travis County Posse

MONAHANS - Ramon Fuentes Garcia, 56, of Grandfalls died Sunday, Nov. 15,
1998, in Grandfalls. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. today in Tamarisk

born Nov. 15, 1942, in Study Butte and was a longtime resident of Grandfalls.
He worked as a farm laborer and was a Catholic. Survivors include a daughter,

Monahans; two brothers, Juan Garcia of Grandfalls and Merarado Garcia of

and had been a resident of Brady for 70 years. She was a homemaker and a

Mary Lillie Cantrell of Fort Worth and Mozell Roberts of Austin; six

BRADY - F.G. Gutierrez Sr., 82, of Brady died Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998, in San

Rest Haven Cemetery. Arrangements are by Heart of Texas Funeral Home. He was
born July 26, 1916, in Brady and was a lifetime resident. An Army veteran of
World War II, he was the owner of Casa Gutierrez Restaurant for 18 years and
was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife,
Eugenia A. Gutierrez of Brady; three sons, Fidel Gutierrez Jr., Mike Gutierrez
and Joe Gutierrez, all of Brady; three daughters, Elva Sanchez of Early,

J.T. Oliver, 75, of San Angelo died Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998, at his residence.

MYRLE BARBAY CLIFTON
Myrle B. Clifton died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, at the care of Felix and Rika
Abaya, whom she lived with in San Angelo for her last seven years. She was 97.
She was born in Crowley, La., in 1901. Myrle married Addie J. Clifton. Myrle
worked as chief auditor under the Commissioner for the state of Louisiana's Oil
and Gas Conservation Department for 30 years. In her retirement years, Myrle
did volunteer work as a bookkeeper under the Diocese of Bishop Ott. One of a
family of 12 children, Myrle is survived by her sister, Joy Roberts of Baton
Rouge, La.; her only daughter, Annie Laurie Clemmons of San Angelo; her seven
grandchildren, Christy Sharum of Salado, Clifton Clemmons of Springdale, Ark.,
Dr. Ward Clemmons and DiOnne Turner, both of Fort Smith, Ark., and Alison
Courtney, Kevin Astudillo and Coleman Clemmons, all of Dallas. She also is
survived by her 13 great-grandchildren, Brooke, Elise, Clayton, Jacob, Kalie,
Sebastian, Macey, Miles, Logan, Bailey, Shelby, Landon and Maverick. Funeral
services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at St. George Catholic
Church in Baton Rouge. The casket will be open two hours prior. Arrangements

RAYMOND M. JONES
BURNET - Raymond Marrs Jones, 88, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998, in Burnet
surrounded by the family who loved him dearly. Ray was born Jan. 30, 1910, in
Lake Victor, the fourth of eight children of Addie Mae and Robert C. Jones. He
was reared in the Church of Christ and attended public schools in Lake Victor
and Lampasas. Ray lived his 88 years in Burnet County, believing no place on
earth as beautiful as his beloved Texas Hill Country. His careers as an astute
cattleman and rancher and as a visionary real estate developer spanned 50
years. Highland Lakes subdivisions that he developed include Cassie, Highland
Haven, Crestwood, Island Lodges and The Willows. Over the years, Ray served his
community in a variety of roles to include member/officer of Burnet County
Hospital Authority, Burnet County Rodeo Association, Burnet School Board and
the Highland Lakes Golf Association. He was particularly honored to have served
as the first president of the Highland Lakes Board of Realtors in 1964. Though
he accomplished much in his career and community service, the roles that
honored him most were husband to his sweetheart and wife of 38 years, father to
his children and PawPaw to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ray is
survived by his wife, Betty Jo of Buchanan Dam; his sister, Dorothy Oakley of
Dennison; his sons, Randall Wayne Jones and daughter-in-law, Ladema, of Burnet,
Roy Lee ``Buck'' Jones of Burnet, Rexford Allen Jones and daughter-in-law, Ann,
of San Angelo, Winters Fox and daughter-in-law, Nancy, of Hamilton, Michael Fox
and daughter-in-law, Linda, of Austin; his daughter, Judy Jones Bays of San
Antonio; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces,
nephews and cousins. Ray is remembered by those who loved him for his
compassion, generosity, steadfastness and competitive spirit. He was true to
his word and his handshake was his bond. Ray loved his family, his friends and
the land with a passion. He also loved golf, fine livestock, watching the ever
changing Texas weather, a good game of poker, a well-told story and a good
laugh. He never met a stranger nor saw a baby he didn't think was beautiful. He
was a ``character'' and a true Texas gentleman. Ray and his family thank the
staffs of Seton Highland Lakes Hospital in Burnet and Northeast Methodist
Hospital in San Antonio for their loving care. We also thank those special
caregivers in San Antonio and at home at Lake Buchanan whose compassion eased
his pain and ours. A celebration of Ray's life will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday,
Nov. 17, at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lakeland Hills
Memorial Park on Park Road 4. To honor him in death as he honored them in life,
his grandsons will serve as his pallbearers, John Key, Cecil Jackson, Derek
Fox, Logan Fox, Mathew Jones, Justin Jones and Brent Parish. Memorial

Elsie Louise Lindsey, 64, of San Angelo went to be with the Lord Saturday, Nov.

Home. Mrs. Bryan was born Sept. 6, 1908, in Mereta in Runnels County. She began
her teaching career in Mereta and continued teaching there and in other areas
in the county for 10 years. She married Williams Curtis Bryan April 3, 1931, in
Miles. Mae later worked for the San Angelo Independent School District and
continued to teach for the next 27 years. She was a member of Southgate
Churchof Christ. Mae loved her family deeply and there was no subject she would
rather talk about. Survivors include two daughters, Ann Bryan Mariano of
Washington, D.C., and Faye Surber of Leavenworth, Kan.; one granddaughter, Mai
Mariano of Columbus, Ohio; three grandsons, James and Steve Surber of Kansas
City, Kan., and David Surber of Oceanside, Calif.; brother-in-law, Earl Roach
of Winters; one nephew, Donald Roach and wife, Carolyn, of Fort Worth; great-

Houston Plastic Products and Moulton Products. He was a member of the Episcopal
Church, the Society of Plastic Engineers and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Feb. 22, 1902, in Gillham, Ark., and was a longtime resident of Andrews before

ANITA H. TEAGUE
Anita H. Teague, 82, passed away Monday, Nov. 16, 1998, in San Angelo.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, in Lawnhaven Memorial
Gardens with the Rev. John Reynolds of Sierra Vista United Methodist Church
officiating. Arrangements are by Robert Massie Funeral Home. Anita was born
Aug. 30, 1916, in Palestine and married Stanley Teague on June 14, 1942, in Big
Spring. She lived in San Angelo most of her life, was a longtime employee of
Holcombe-Blanton Printery and was a charter member of Sierra Vista United
Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley, of 51
years; and two sisters, Marie Cook and Helene Simpson. She was a loving and
much-loved mother, grandmother and aunt. Her survivors include a daughter,
Jerri Schooler and her husband and very special son-in-law, Jamie, of San
Angelo; a granddaughter, Kathy Smith and her husband, Freddie, of Arlington; a
grandson, Steven Schooler of San Angelo; and two nieces, Jan Robertson of
Herndon, Va., and Iris Kendall of Arlington. The family would like to express
their deepest appreciation to Baptist Memorials Center and especially Division
6 and her loving caregivers for the kindness, compassion and love they gave to
her in her declining years. Anita embraced life with joy and will be dearly
missed.

Midland. He was born Feb. 12, 1910, in Ohtoerson, Okla. Survivors include his
wife, Cozie Draper of Abilene; three stepsons, Pete Weinkauf of Abilene, George
Weinkauf of Miles and Richard Weinkauf of Lake Whitney; a stepdaughter,
Margaret Demetro of Vallejo, Calif.; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren;
and four great-great-grandchildren.
Michael Ford
SWEETWATER - Michael Lynn Ford, 43, of Austin, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1998,
at his residence. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Garden of
Memories Cemetery. Arrangements are by McCoy Funeral Home. He was born Jan. 18,
1955, in Haskell. He worked several years as a medical gas specialist with
Wilson Oxygen in Austin. He was a member of the Hyde Park Baptist Church of
Austin. Survivors include his parents, Lynn and Mary Ford of Sweetwater; a
brother Steve Ford of Sweetwater; a niece; and several uncles, aunts and
cousins.
Grover Wiley
BIG SPRING - Grover Lee Wiley, 78, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998, in a local
hospital. Military graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Friday in Trinity
Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. He was
born December 25, 1919, in Deming, N.M. He had lived in Big Spring since 1942.
An Air Force veteran of World War II, he worked for Cosden Oil and Chemical
Company in March of 1951 and retired from Fina in March of 1982. He was a
member of the 14th & Main Church of Christ and Cosden Twenty-Five Year Club.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta of Big Spring; a daughter, Pat Wiley of
Washington, D.C.; a sister, Leona Wiley of Apache Junction, Ariz.; and two
nephews.

BIG SPRING - Jo Dell Callahan, 73, of Coahoma died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998, at a
local hospital. Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Nalley-Pickle & Welch
Rosewood Chapel with burial in Coahoma Cemetery. She was born Nov. 7, 1925, in
Howard County and was a lifetime resident. She worked at Cosden Refinery for 27
years. She was a member of the National Secretary Association, the Order of the
Eastern Star and First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her husband,
Jerry Callahan of Coahoma; two sons, Howard Gregory of Jewett and Ken Gregory
of Cordell, Okla.; a brother, Ned Hale of Harlingen; a sister, Rae Nell Best of
Coahoma; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews.

BIG SPRING - Gyneth McClendon, 85, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1998, in a Stanton
nursing home. Service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Nalley-Pickle & Welch
Rosewood Chapel with burial in Mount Olive Memorial Park. She was born on March
19, 1913, in Andrews and had lived in Andrews, Odessa, Lamesa and Big Spring.
She was a seamstress, specializing in draperies and was a member of the First
Christian Church. Survivors include a son, Troy McClendon of Big Spring; a
granddaughter, Kim Dewbre of Lubbock; a brother, Sonne Umberson of Abilene; and
a sister, Delma Mead of Houston.

CRANE - Gloria Ann Bartlett, 68, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1998, in a Midland

Funeral Home. She was born March 21, 1930, in Munday and had lived in Crane
since 1973. She was a homemaker and a member of the American Legion auxiliary

6, 1916, in Eldorado and had been a resident of Pecos since 1938. She was a

KERRVILLE - Thomas ``Tom'' A. Maddry, 80, of Kerrville died Monday, Nov. 16,

Chapels. He was born March 18, 1918, in Homer, La., and had been a resident of
Kerrville for four years and a prior resident of Roseburg, Ore. A Marine
veteran of World War II, he was retired from the United States Department of
Justice as a Border Patrol. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Elks Lodge,
National Rifle Association and was one of the founders of the Border Patrol
Association. Survivors include his wife, Ione L. Maddry of Kerrville; a
daughter, Jacqueline Rae Maddry Harrison of Houston; two sons, Thomas Alfred
Maddry of Tucson, Ariz., and Joseph Duane Maddry of Knoxville, Tenn.; and seven

ANNE M. TUBBS
Anne M. Tubbs, 77, of San Angelo passed away at 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, 1998,
at her residence. She was born Oct. 25, 1921, in Bell County. She was a devoted
registered nurse for more than 50 years. She worked at the Clinic Hospital and
Angelo Community Hospital where she loved her work dearly. She was a member of
Holy Angels Catholic Church. Anne was preceded in death by her husband,
Clarence Paul Tubbs; and sister, Mary Chovanec. She is survived by her beloved
daughter, Barbara Anne Stanley and her husband, Alan, of San Antonio. She was a
very devoted mother. Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at
HolyAngels Catholic Church with burial in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

Charles ``Mac'' McCarley, 76, of San Angelo died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998, in a

CLARIBEL SELLARS
BRECKENRIDGE - Claribel Sellars, 101, of Breckenridge died Wednesday, Nov. 18,
1998, in Baptist Memorials Center in San Angelo. Service will be at 3 p.m.
Friday, Nov. 20, at Melton Funeral Home with the Rev. Cecil Harper, pastor of
First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Breckenridge Cemetery.
Mrs. Sellars was born Dec. 23, 1896, in Hamilton, the daughter of Lillie Ray
and Thomas Slaughter DeArman, who preceded her in death. She had one brother,
Jesse DeArman, and two sisters, Essie Gober and Emma Dora Cathey, all deceased.
Claribel was married to Van Sellars in 1919 in Hamilton and lived in Tyler,
Hugoton, Kan., and Breckenridge before his death in 1950. She was a member of
the First Baptist Church in Breckenridge. Mrs. Sellars worked as a salesperson
for F.W. Woolworth and C.R. Anthony in Breckenridge. After retirement from C.R.
Anthony, she ran a re-sale shop in her home and managed her rental property.
She actively managed her affairs until she was 99 years of age. Mrs. Sellars
was well known as a pet lover who provided a good home to many animals.
Survivors include one son, Gene C. Sellars and his wife, Virgie, of San Angelo;
three grandchildren and their families, Joe C. and Tracy Sellars of Fort Worth,
Van Alan Sellars of Lufkin and Gene and Rebecca Sellars Louder of Stanton; and
four great-grandchildren, Tullie Clayton Louder, Carly Joy Louder, Sarah
Lindsay Louder of Stanton and Katherine Eileen Sellars of Fort Worth. Mrs.
Sellars' extended family included several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Pallbearers will be James Maxwell of Dallas, Lee Harrison of Winters, Bobby Joe
Davis of Abilene and Bill Evanoff of Breckenridge. Memorials may be made to the
First Baptist Church of Breckenridge.
JACKSON ALBERT DUDLEY
COMANCHE - Jackson Albert Dudley, 19, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1998, at his
home in Austin. He was born on June 13, 1979, in Dallas to John Dudley and
Ginger Gardner Dudley. Jackson Dudley was a student at the University of Texas
at Austin and a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He was a 1997 graduate of
Comanche High School, valedictorian, and captain of the varsity football and
basketball teams. He was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in
Comanche, having served as an acolyte for many years. He was an avid sportsman.
He is survived by his parents, John and Ginger Dudley of Comanche; one brother,
Gardner Dudley of Houston; his grandmother, Editha Dudley of Comanche; three

DONALD BATES WHITE
Donald Bates White died in Atlantic City, Fla., on Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998, at
age 84. He was a Lutheran, and the rites will be conducted Monday, Nov. 23, at
the Hardage Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Fla., by the Rev. John Bucheimer of
the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Col. White was born June 16, 1914, in San Angelo
to John Thomas and Flora Bates Whites. Donald graduated from Water Valley High
School in 1932. He graduated from San Angelo College, where he was captain of
the basketball team. He later graduated from the University of Texas, where he
was captain of the basketball team in his senior year. He had been married to
his wife, the former Jean Gray, for 53 years. He was a retired Air Force
colonel and was a B-52 pilot in the Central and Southwest Pacific during World
War II and was involved in several battles, including the Battle of Midway.
Among Col. White's awards are the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Silver
Star, the DFC, the Commendation Medal and the Outstanding Unit Citation. Col.
White is survived by his wife, Jean, son, Donald Jr., and daughter, Nancy, all
of Atlantic City; and two brothers, Johnny W. White and Joseph L. White, both
of San Angelo.
JENNIE COX TEELE
BIG SPRING - Jennie Cox Teele, 103, of Big Spring and formerly a longtime
resident of Garden City, died on Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998, at her residence.
Service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, in Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood
Chapel with the Rev. Flynn Long, retired Presbyterian minister, officiating.
Interment will follow in Garden City Cemetery. She was born on April 14, 1895,
in Swisher County. Traveling by covered wagon, she and her family arrived in
Glasscock County in 1906. Jennie was the ninth of 12 children of Jim and Sarah
Cox, and was their youngest daughter. She married Edward Teele Aug. 11, 1915,
in Garden City, and he preceded her in death on May 3, 1974. Jennie Teele was a
member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the Missionary Society, the
Midland China Club and a life member of the Eastern Star. She is survived by a
large number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-
nieces and great-great-nephews, including Johnny Amos and Jay Cunningham, both
of Big Spring, Myrl Fitzhugh of Lamesa, Caryolyn Harris of Garden City and
Bonnell Newland of Crane. The family suggests memorials to the Cumberland
Presbyterian Church Children's Home, P.O. Drawer G, Denton, TX 76202 or the

W.C. `DUB' RYON
W.C. ``Dub'' Ryon, former San Angeloan, died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998, in Flower
Mound after a battle with lung cancer. Dub was born Jan. 1, 1917, in Dallas. He
grew up in East Texas and graduated from the now-defunct Gaston High School in
Joinerville. He attended Stephen F. Austin College, Nacogdoches, and Kilgore
Junior College. He served as a pilot and instructor in the Army Air Corps at
Goodfellow Air Force Base during World War II and was recalled and served in
South Korea during the Korean War. He also was stationed at Mathis Field. After
his discharge as a major, he remained in San Angelo, where he was an
independent insurance agent and owned Ryon Insurance Agency. Later, he became
co-owner of Dorrance Ryon Insurance Service until he retried in 1982. In 1985
he moved to Fairfield, where he owned farm property. His civic activities in
San Angelo included the Jaycees. Most recently, he had resided in the Dallas-
Fort Worth metroplex area. He is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Ryon of San
Angelo and Julia Ryon Berg and her husband, Roy, of Lewisville; two
grandchildren, Kate Hankins of San Angelo and David James and his wife,
Katherine, of Quito, Ecuador, and Lewisville; and a sister, Mary Kipp of Baton
Rouge, La. Dub was preceded in death by his grandson, Noel James of San Angelo;
his parents; a brother, Mitchell Ryon of Corpus Christi; and a sister, Helen
Bounds of Mexia. At the request of the deceased, he was cremated and no
services were held. Guardian Funeral Home of Fort Worth handled the

Juanita Acevedo Ybarra Ronquillo, 69, of San Angelo died Tuesday, Nov. 17,
1998, in a local hospital. Vigil service was at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, in
Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at
St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Terry Brenon officiating. Burial will
follow in Calvary Cemetery. Juanita was born Nov. 13, 1929, in San Angelo and
had been a resident for many years. She married Antonio Ronquillo on June 9,
1946, in San Angelo. Juanita was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She
also had lived for 27 years in Sweetwater, where she had worked for the Holiday
Inn. Juanita was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Antonio
Ronquillo Sr.; a brother, Manuel Acevedo; and two sisters, Marcela Rodriquez
and Celestina Ynostrosa. Survivors include five daughters, Guadalupe Rodriguez
and Yolanda Savini, both of San Angelo, Gloria Croy of Huntsville, Ala., Linda
Lopez of Phoenix, Ariz., and Irma Gatica of Scott, La.; four sons, Margarito
Ronquillo and Antonio Ronquillo Jr., both of San Angelo, and Joe Louis
Ronquillo and Oscar Ronquillo, both of Scott; three brothers, Ernesto Acevedo
of Miles, Cruz Acevedo of Kenner, La., and Armando Acevedo of San Angelo; a
sister, Andrea Rodriguez of Abilene; 26 grandchildren; nine great-
grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be granddaughters
and grandsons.

HARROLD LLOYD TABOR
Harrold Lloyd Tabor, 66, of San Angelo passed away Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998, in
Shannon Medical Center. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, in
Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Tabor was born Aug. 28, 1932, in Talpa to
Lee Tabor and Elsie Broyles Tabor. He married Lydy K. Phelps May 1, 1954, in
Carson City, Nev. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean
War and had assignments in Waco, Shreveport, La., Naha, Okinawa, Japan, Austin,
Rapid City, S.D., Tripoli, Libya, Woodbridge/Bentwaters, England, and San
Antonio. Harrold retired in San Antonio after 20 years of military service.
After his retirement, Harrold worked seven years for the Social Security
Administration in San Angelo. Together with his wife, Harrold and Lydy formed
an interior design and manufacturing business in 1976, Tabors of San Angelo.
Mr. Tabor was a Mason and a member of the Sierra Club. He served as treasurer
of the Texas branch of the Sierra Club. Harrold enjoyed sailing very much and
having his own sailing vessel. Harrold sailed to the Caribbean and the Gulf of
Mexico quite often. Survivors include his wife, Lydy K. Tabor of San Angelo;
two sons, Bruce Tabor of Austin, Lee Tabor and wife, Elizabeth, of Victorville,
Calif.; three granddaughters, Melanie, McKenzie and HollyAnn Tabor of
Victorville; a brother, Glenn Tabor and wife, Frances, of Midland; two aunts,
Oveta Higginbotham of Paint Rock and Donnie Mitchell of Waco; two uncles, J.B.

Dolores Leza
Dolores M. Leza, 69, of San Angelo died Friday, Nov. 20, 1998, at her
residence. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with burial in
Calvary Cemetery. She was born Sept. 13, 1929, in Del Rio. She was a homemaker
and a Catholic. Survivors include her children, Irma Lopez, Margaret Lopez and
Patricia Lopez, all of San Angelo, Trena Delgado of Houston and Henry Rodriquez
of San Angelo; a brother, Pete Mendoza and two sisters, Juanita Mendoza and
Elvira Mendoza, all of San Angelo; 18 grandchildren; and four great-
grandchildren.
George Groff
George W. Groff, 79, of Grape Creek died Friday, Nov. 20, 1998, in a local
hospital. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Grape Creek Baptist
Church with the Rev. Brad Winchester and the Rev. Clinton Eastman officiating.
Burial will be in Grape Creek Cemetery. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral
Home. He was born May 28, 1919, in Grape Creek. An Air Force Veteran of World
War II and retired from the civil service at Goodfellow after 30 years. He was
a member and a deacon of Grape Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include his
wife, Inez Groff of Grape Creek; a daughter , Wanda Elaine Havens of
Petersburg, VA; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

BRADY - Lynn Richard Hall, 81, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, in Brady. Service
will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Rest
Haven Cemetery. He was born September 2, 1917, in Rochelle. He was a stock
farmer and a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Lucy
James Hall of Brady; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ruby Simpson
COLEMAN - Ruby Bell Schoonover Simpson, 88, of Coleman died Friday, Nov. 20,
1998, in a Brownwood nursing home. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday
in Coleman Cemetery Pavilion. Arrangements are by Stevens Funeral Home. She was
born April 18, 1910, in Hamilton County. She grew up in Coleman County and then
moved to Brown County in 1984. She was a homemaker and a Pentecostal. Survivors
include a daughter, Dorothy Roberson of Brownwood; two sisters, Rosie Hubbard
of Comanche, and Georgia Koym of Bangs; nine grandchildren; numerous great-
grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Cordie Courtney
COLEMAN - Cordie Mary Courtney, 81, died Friday, Nov. 21, 1998, in a local
hospital. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Santa Anna Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Stevens Funeral Home. She was born January 25, 1917, in
Thurber. She grew up in the Eastland and Ranger area and moved to Coleman in
1996. She was a homemaker and a member of the United Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Doris Lou Dykes of Coleman; three sisters, Norma
Jean Cole of Comanche, Florine Johnson of Burleson and Oma Vernice Mosley of
Denton; six grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four
great-great-grandchildren.
Maria Martinez
FORT STOCKTON - Maria P. Martinez, 89, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998. Rosary
will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Joseph Hall. Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday
at St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. She was born
August 26, 1909, in Durango, Mexico. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic
Church and was a homemaker. Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Macintosh of
Fort Stockton; three sons, Jose Martinez and Manuel Martinez, both of Fort
Stockton, and Juan Martinez of Odessa; a brother, Jose Perez of Mexico; three
nieces; 16 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
G.R. Van Aken
KERRVILLE - G.R. ``Van'' Van Aken, 79, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998, in a local
nursing home. Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's
Episcopal Church. Arrangements are by Grimes Funeral Chapels. He was born June
24, 1919, in St. Paul, Minn., and was a resident of Kerrville for 11 years. An
Air Force Veteran of World War II, he was a retired podiatrist and a member of
the American Podiatry Association and Rotary International and St. Peter's
Episcopal Church. Survivors include his wife, Alice T. Van Aken of Kerrville;
two daughters, Carolyn Carr of Grand Island, Neb., Julie V. Jordan of San
Antonio; several grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Frank Martinez Jr.
MARFA - Frank Jacob Martinez Jr., 28, of Marfa died Friday, Nov. 20, 1998, in
an Alpine hospital. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic
Church. Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church with burial in Merced
Cemetery. Arrangements are by Memorial Funeral Home. He was born Feb. 18, 1970
in Alpine and had been a lifetime resident of Marfa. He had been a jockey, a
volleyball referee and worked at Village Farms. He was a member of St. Mary's
Catholic Church. Survivors include his mother, Catarina Acosta Martinez of
Marfa; his father, Frank Martinez of Marfa; two brothers, Ruben Martinez and
Mark Adam Martinez, both of Marfa; and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
Manuel Martinez of Fort Davis.

Obituaries
GLEN ARONS
Hall Valley resident and former San Angelo home builder and businessman, Glen
Arons, age 80, departed this life on Nov. 20, 1998. He was born Johnny Glen
Arons, Dec. 20, 1917, to Johnny Clark and Martha Boyd McAfee Arons in Prairie
Hill, Limestone County, Texas. He lived in Tehuacana, Texas, until he and his
family moved to San Angelo in 1926. His father was in poor health and Glen and
his older brother, Henry, went to work very young to help support the family,
which included three sisters and his parents. The two brothers carried the San
Angelo Standard Times, morning, special and late editions in the late 1920s.
Next Glen worked as a delivery boy for the Postal Telegraph. His next job was
to deliver on bicycle, prescription drugs for the Central Drug Store. He knew
San Angelo streets like the back of his hands. He shared many colorful stories
of his early years. In 1934 he married Charlene Hulsey. To them were born six
children, Johnnie Marie, Charley Glen, Herman Richard, Lewis Don, Rena Mae and
Bettie Ann. To support their family, Glen and Charlene started their own
laundry business. This too was a delivery service. The need for modest housing
during and after World War II was great. Glen began to build homes. He was
successful in building hundreds of homes in his own addition and Lake Concho
Annex. In 1955 he gave Brentwood Park to the city of San Angelo. It is still a
nicely landscaped park. On Dec. 20, 1961, Glen married Georgia Bingham
Springer. He then realized his lifelong dream when he bought a ranch and stock
farm in McCulloch and San Saba counties in 1963. He continued to ranch until
his death. His love of nature made him truly appreciate his ranch land. Glen is
survived by his devoted wife, Georgia, six children, two stepchildren and their
spouses; Marie and C.R. Gillard of Midland, Richard and Meena of San Saba, Don
and Marcia of Rochelle, Rena and Richard Williams of Chatsworth, Calif., Leslie
and Sorita of Richland Springs, Donna Springer and Michael St. Clair of San
Angelo and James Springer of Conroe; 17 grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren;
and numerous great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; three sisters,
Vera Arons Moore of Edmond, Okla., Jewell and John Rietzel of Alamogordo, N.M.,
and Odelia and Richard Doverspike of Tulsa, Okla.; and several nieces and
nephews. Glen was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Henry, and his
son, Charley Arons. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, at the
Leatherwood Colonial Funeral Home Chapel in Brady. Burial will follow in the
Cowboy Cemetery near his ranch in McCulloch County. Officiating will be the
Reverend Kenneth Barr of the Rochelle Baptist Church, and Brother John Shero of
the San Saba Church of Christ. Memorial contributions may be made to the
Rochelle Baptist Church or to a favorite charity.
RAYMOND KOTRLA
Major Raymond Kotrla, United States Marine Corps, retired, went to be with the
Lord after a lengthy battle with cancer. He passed from this earth on Friday,
Nov. 20, 1998, at age 54. Ray was born May 26, 1944, in San Angelo to Oscar
and Lillian Kotrla. He graduated from Wall High School and San Angelo Junior
College. Ray served his nation in the USMC from Oct. 1964 to Nov. 1984.
During the Vietnam War he flew in excess of 200 missions attaining the Air
Medal with 15 stars. Additional decorations received were, National Defense
Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one cluster, Vietnam Campaign
Medal 4 Awards, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam
Service Medal, Letter of Commendation, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious
Unit Commendation, Letter of Appreciation, Aviation Safety Award, Sea
Service Deployment Ribbon and Navy Commendation Medal. After retirement
Ray went to work for Wise Airlines, then Rio Airlines and was hired by GTE in
1985 where he has been employed as captain in the aviation department. Ray
is a member of First Baptist Church Sunday school and Wall Brethren Church
where he has served on the Board of Elders, lifetime member of Vietnam
Veterans, and a member of the Retired Officer's Association. He has served as
an officer of Wall Sharpshooters. Ray is survived by his wife, Myra; sons, Tim
Kotrla of Dallas, SN John Kotrla of South Carolina, daughter, Stacey Kotrla and
son, James Kotrla, both of the home; his mother, Lillian Kotrla of San Angelo; a
sister, Darlene Cason of San Angelo; nieces Jennifer Hartman and Alicia
Kotrla, both of San Angelo. He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar
Kotrla and brother, Eugene Kotrla. Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23,
at the Wall Brethren Church in Wall with the Rev. Tommy Tallas, pastor
officiating and afterward Ray's body will be laid to rest with military honors in
Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral
Home. Pallbearers will be Larry Dean, Dewyan Weise, Ed Holcomb, Mike
Varnadore, Stanley Holik and Boyd Armstrong. Honorary pallbearers are Bob
Cason, John Schreiver, Walter Fuchs, Pete Weldon and Bill Thorn. The family
request memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.

JANE SPECK GREIGER
On Saturday the 21, 1998, a beautiful November morning, the angels came to take
Jane Greiger to live in a place where there is no pain or sorrow, a place where
she will live in love and beauty throughout eternity. There she will become an
angel to watch over her children Jima and Darla. Jane didn't want to leave her
earthly home. She battled death to the end with courage and dignity. We will
love you Jane, and you will be missed. We mourn your passing, but oh how we
celebrate your life. Jane was born on Sept. 8, 1946, in Fort Worth to Louis and
Iva Speck. She spend most of her young life in San Angelo. She married Jim
Geiger and spent many years as a military wife. She worked at Ethicon for 18
years and was vice president of local UTWA. Jane leaves a son, Jima Geiger, and
a daughter, Darla Oakley; grandchildren, Brooke Geiger, Michael L. Geiger,
Adriana Geiger and Alexander Oakley; her father, Louis Speck; three brothers,
Johnny Speck, Gary Speck and Alan Speck; three sisters, Judy Pope, Brenda Reed
and Gloria Bell; and a host of friends. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday,
Nov. 23, in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel. Memorials may be made to Hospice of
San Angelo or The American Cancer Society in memory of Jane Geiger.
HARROLD LLOYD TABOR
Harrold Lloyd Tabor, 66, of San Angelo passed away Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998, in
Shannon Medical Center. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, in
Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Tabor was born Aug. 28, 1932, in Talpa to
Lee Tabor and Elsie Broyles Tabor. He married Lydy K. Phelps May 1, 1954, in
Carson City, Nev. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean
War and had assignments in Waco; Shreveport, La.; Naha, Okinawa, Japan; Austin;
Rapid City, S.D.; Tripoli, Libya; Woodbridge/Bentwaters, England; and San
Antonio. Harrold retired in San Antonio after 20 years of military service.
After his retirement, Harrold worked seven years for the Social Security
Administration in San Angelo. Together with his wife, Harrold and Lydy formed
an interior design and manufacturing business in 1976, Tabors of San Angelo.
Mr. Tabor was a Mason and a member of the Sierra Club. He served as treasurer
of the Texas branch of the Sierra Club. Harrold enjoyed sailing very much and
having his own sailing vessel. Harrold sailed to the Caribbean and the Gulf of
Mexico quite often. Survivors include his wife, Lydy K. Tabor of San Angelo;
two sons, Bruce Tabor of Austin, Lee Tabor and wife, Elizabeth, of Victorville,
Calif.; three granddaughters, Melanie, McKenzie and HollyAnn Tabor
ofVictorville; a brother, Glenn Tabor and wife, Frances, of Midland; two aunts,
Oveta Higginbotham of Paint Rock and Donnie Mitchell of Waco; two uncles, J.B.
Broyles and Floyd Broyles; many cousins, nieces and nephews. The family wishes
