Amalia Rodriguez, 59, of San Angelo died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, in a local
nursing center. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Fairmount
Cemetery with the Rev. Terry Brenon of St. Mary's Catholic Church officiating.
Arrangements are by Gutierrez Funeral Chapels. She was born Nov. 16, 1938, in
Del Rio. She was a Catholic. Survivors include a sister, Dora Palomino of
Joliet, Ill.
Jewell Lundquist
Jewell Inez Lundquist, 83, of Garland died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, in
Dallas. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Fairmount Cemetery
with the Rev. Paul Terry officiating. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral
Home. She was born Sept. 26, 1915, in Nacogdoches County. She was a homemaker
and a Methodist. Survivors include a sister, Katherine Payne of Garland; two
brothers, Rayford Birdwell of Silsbee and Wintford Birdwell of Kountze; and
numerous nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth Cason
Elizabeth R. Cason, 58, of San Angelo died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, in a
local hospital. Services are pending at Johnson's Funeral Home.
Leonard Eaton
KINGSLAND - Leonard Malcolm Eaton, 78, of Sunrise Beach, died Tuesday, Sept.
29, 1998, in Llano. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. today in Waldrope-
Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home Chapel. He was born May 10, 1920, in Post Oak
and had been a resident of Kingsland for 20 years. An Army veteran of World War
II, he worked with Kodak for more than 25 years and was a member of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Eaton of Sunrise Beach; two sons, Don Walker
of Quinlan and Ron Walker of Seagoville; a sister, Doris Lee of Paris; a
brother, Herbert Eaton of Paris; seven grandchildren; and numerous great-
grandchildren.
Yoena Valenzuela
KERMIT - Yoena Escarsega Valenzuela, 31, of Hobbs, N.M., died Sunday, Sept. 27,
1998, in an Alpine hospital. Service will be at 5 p.m. today at St. Joseph
Catholic Church with burial in Kermit Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cooper
Funeral Chapel. She was born July 30, 1967, in Kermit and had been a resident
of Hobbs for three years. She was a homemaker and a Catholic. Survivors include
two sons, Jose Enrique Escarsega Jr. and Nelson Rey Aguilar, and two daughters,
Maria Esmerelda Salazar and Blanca Aimme Salazar, all of Hobbs; four brothers,
Juan Ramon Valenzuela, Isabel Valenzuela, Ignacio Valenzuela and Gerardo
Valenzuela, all of Kermit; three sisters, Maggie Lujan of Hobbs, Vahola Vierra
and Luly Rodriguez, both of Kermit; her parents, Ramon and Manuela Valenzuela
of Kermit; and her grandparents, Juan and Juanita Valenzuela of Palomas,

BROWNFIELD - Cecil R. Farrar, 72, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, in Brownfield.
Service will be at 2 p.m. today at Calvary Baptist Church with burial in Terry
County Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are by Brownfield Funeral Home. He was
born Jan. 29, 1926, in Dawson County. He was a farmer and served on the board
of directors for the South Gin and the Farm Bureau. Survivors include his wife,
Maudell Farrar of Brownfield; two sons, Cecil Royce Farrar and Lawson Farrar,
both of Brownfield; a daughter, Joyce Hoch of Huntsville; two brothers, Paul
Farrar of Denton and Eulice Farrar of Ruidoso, N.M.; two sisters, Jean Renfro
of Brownfield and Ruth Hudgens of Odessa; six grandchildren; and two great-
grandchildren.
Helen Williams
BRADY - Helen Williams, 73, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, in Brady. Service
will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Rest
Haven Cemetery. She was born April 3, 1925, in Brady and was a lifetime
resident. She was a sales clerk for several stores and was a member of First
Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Gene Williams of Brady; a son,
Buster Williams of Brady; a daughter, Jeanie Sparks of Brownwood; a brother,
Rob Roy Williams of Brady; two sisters, Linda Tatsch of Midland and Fay Eastman
of Wink; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and
nephews.
Sibyle Woodard
PECOS - Sibyle Evelyn Woodard, 78, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, in a local
hospital. Service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with
burial in Fairview Cemetery. She was born Aug. 29, 1920, in Goldsboro and had
been a longtime resident of Pecos. She was a homemaker and a member of North
Temple Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Lessie ``Woody'' Woodard of
Pecos; two daughters, Merna Joy Woodward of Waco and Pat Rains of Cleveland;
eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Jewell Bowden
SANTA ANNA - Jewell Bowden, 91, of Lubbock died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, in a
Lubbock hospital. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Rockwood
Cemetery. Arrangements are by Henderson Funeral Home. She was born Feb. 8,
1907, in Rockwood. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She had worked as a
telephone operator and served as a parachute rigger during World War II.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Ann Rudd of Lubbock; a son, Vester Max
Bowden of Corpus Christi; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
E. Wayne Burleson
BIG SPRING - E. Wayne Burleson, 75, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, in a local
hospital. Service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood
Chapel with burial in Trinity Memorial Park. He was born Nov. 1, 1922, in Big
Spring and was a longtime resident. A Merchant Marine veteran of World War II,
he was the owner of Burleson Machine Shop and was a Baptist. Survivors include
his wife, Eleanor Westerberg Burleson of Big Spring; five sons, David Burleson
of Houston, Marvin Burleson of Burleson, Michael Burleson of Crosby, Donnie
Burleson of Dallas and Ronnie Burleson of Big Spring; three daughters, Carol
Schultz of Burleson, Betsy Anderson of Odessa and Amy Sprous of Lubbock; 13
grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Lois Ratliff
GOLDTHWAITE - Lois Helen Ratliff, 77, of Brownwood died Wednesday, Sept. 30,
1998, in a Brownwood nursing center. Service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Stacy-
Wilkins Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Oakview Cemetery in Mullin. She was
born April 24, 1921, in Mullin. She was retired from GTE and worked at the Word
of Faith Church nursery in Brownwood. Survivors include two daughters, Brenda
Wilcox of Brownwood and Barbara Todd of Odessa; a son, Ronnie Ratliff of
Brownwood; two brothers, Pete Reed of Baton Rouge, La., and Charles Reed of
Louisiana; three sisters, Ollie Lee Holland of San Antonio, Auda Burleson of
Grand Prairie and Dena Langford of Lampasas; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-
grandchildren.
Ramona Henry
BIG SPRING - Ramona Henry, 81, of Bowie died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, in Bowie.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Trinity Memorial Park.
Arrangements are by Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. She was born Feb. 24,
1917, in Big Spring and had been a resident of Bowie since 1945. She had worked
at the National Archives in Washington, D.C., and was a school teacher. She was
a member of the First Baptist Church of Bowie. Survivors include a stepsister,
Ella Virginia Green of Bruceville; an aunt; and several cousins.
Henry Langehennig
FREDERICKSBURG - Henry Langehennig, 55, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, in a
San Antonio hospital. Service will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Schaetter Funeral
Home Chapel with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. He was born Aug. 25, 1953.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Fiedler Langehennig of Fredericksburg; two
sons, Bryan Langehennig and Kevin Langehennig, both of Fredericksburg; three
sisters, Mary Jane Thomas of Sabinal, Irene Remers of Fredericksburg and Helen
Schmidt of Comfort; and a brother, Arthur Langehennig of Fredericksburg.

ROSCOE - Claudia Lee Leonard, 76, of Waco died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, in a
Waco hospital. Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church
with burial in Roscoe Cemetery. Arrangements are by McCoy Funeral Home. She was
born June 24, 1922, in Montell. She was an author and a Baptist. Survivors
include her husband, Roy Leonard of Waco; two daughters, Carol Morton of
Slidell, La., and Sue Thurber of Sand Springs, Okla.; two sisters, Darlene
Bullard of Campwood and Lona Bell of Junction; two brothers, Jimmy Baxter of
Campwood and Alvin Baxter of Menard; and four grandchildren.
Arthur Ortiz
KERRVILLE - Arthur Ortiz, 20, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, in a San Antonio
hospital from an automobile accident in Gillespie County. Services are pending

GEORGE SCHAEFER
BALLINGER - George Schaefer, 75, of Olfen died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at his
home. Rosary was at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, at St. Boniface Catholic
Church in Olfen. Service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at the church
with the Rev. Stephen Kennelly officiating. Burial will be in St. Boniface
Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rains-Seale Funeral Home. George was
born July 22, 1923, in Olfen to Henry Schaefer and Cecilia Halfmann Schaefer.
He married Patsy Moeller Oct. 3, 1956, in Rowena. He was a lifelong resident of
Olfen and was a farmer and a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. He was a
member of the Olfen Knights of Columbus, Council 2772 and was past president of
the Olfen Independent School Board. He was preceded in death by his parents and
two brothers, Roscoe and Clarence Schaefer Sr. George is survived by his wife,
Patsy Moeller Schaefer of Olfen; two sons, Dwayne Schaefer and Richard
Schaefer, both of Olfen; two daughters, Paula Schriedel and husband, Randy, of
Converse and Carolyn Schaefer of Paint Rock; a brother, Hilmer Schaefer of
Rowena; a sister, Earline Johnson of San Angelo; and six grandchildren, Sarah,
Catherine and Christopher Schriedel of Converse and Megan, Joshua and Clayton
Schaefer of Olfen. The family suggests memorials be made to the West Texas
Rehabilitation Center or a favorite charity. Pallbearers will be Kenneth
Schaefer, Clarence Schaefer Jr., Mark Schaefer, Ralph Schaefer, Steve Daniels
and Jorge Correa Sr.
GENEVIEVE I. KINNEY
Genevieve I. Kinney, 98, of San Angelo died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, in Meadow
Creek Nursing Home. Service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, in Johnson's
Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ben Hubert officiating. Burial will follow in
Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Kinney was born June 27, 1900, in Wheaton,
Kan., to Charles and Carrie Ingalsbe Swickard. She was a stenographer for
Security Benefit Association and a member of First Christian Church. Mrs.
Kinney was a member of Eastern Star. She married William Elmer ``Bill'' Kinney
Aug. 7, 1923, in Nevada, Mo. He preceded her in death Dec. 9, 1968. Survivors
include two nieces, Erleen Ray and Lucille Cornelius, both of Odessa.
SHIRLEY TEMPLE ALVAREZ
Shirley Temple Alvarez, 61, of San Angelo passed from this world to be with
both her Fathers, Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at her residence. Service will be at
11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at Robert Massie Funeral Home with the Rev. L.C. Messer
officiating. Burial will follow in Belvedere Memorial Park. Shirley was born
June 8, 1937, in Boyd County, Ky., and moved to San Angelo and married George
Alvarez in 1963. She helped with the furniture store she and George owned in
San Angelo for 20 years. Her remaining years she was a loving wife, mother,
grandmother, and great-grandmother. She attended Full Gospel Assembly Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Rickman, and her mother, Annie
Rickman. Survivors include her husband, George Alvarez of San Angelo; four
brothers, Ira Rickman, Jack Rickman, George Rickman and Floyd Rickman, all of
Michigan; two sons, Ronald Driggs and wife, Delana, and Donald Driggs and wife,
Tammy, both of San Angelo; three daughters, Barbara Mills and husband, Roy,
Teresa Clark and husband, Danny, and Rose Horton and husband, Mark, all of San
Angelo; a daughter-in-law, Juanita Driggs of San Angelo; 12 stepchildren; 17
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and
cousins. Pallbearers will be Danny Clark, Jason Clark, Matthew Driggs,
DavidDriggs, Hebert West and Bryan Horton. Special thanks to Hospice staff, and
special thanks to Kathy and David, both of Hospice. A very special thanks to
the daughters-in-law, Tammy, Delana and Juanita, and special thanks to Digger
Backhoe Services.
We will all miss you Mom, but will see you again in Heaven.

Ed Kasner, 71, of San Angelo died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, at his residence.
Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens
with the Rev. Robert Sawall of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church officiating.
Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. He was born Dec. 19, 1926, in
Rosebud. He owned Lacy Carpet and Angelo Rug Cleaners and was a member of Our
Redeemer Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife, Dorthea Kasner of San
Angelo; a son, Curt Kasner of San Angelo; a daughter, Karen Gagliano of
Universal City; a brother, Arthur Kasner; three grandchildren; and a great-
grandchild.

FREDERICKSBURG - Terry Fridley, 62, of San Antonio died Wednesday, Sept. 30,

wife, Gloria Jean Ressmann Fridley of San Antonio; a son, Kenneth Fridley of
North Richland Hills; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Curtis Rollwitz
LEVELLAND - Curtis Walter Rollwitz, 51, of Levelland died Wednesday, Sept. 30,
1998, in a Lubbock hospital. Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St.
Michael's Catholic Church with burial in City of Levelland Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Geo. C. Price Funeral Directors. He was born Nov. 25, 1946,
in San Angelo, had lived in Ozona and moved to Levelland in 1978. An Army
veteran, he was a retired field roustabout for Texaco and was a member of St.
Michael's Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Rollwitz of
Levelland; two daughters, Melissa Rollwitz of Levelland and Beverly Means of
Lubbock; two brothers, Billy Rollwitz and Roy Rollwitz, both of Rowena; two

1960, in Lampasas. She was a supply technician and was a member of United
Central Christian Church. Survivors include her husband, Richard W. Faw of

Greenberg and Patti Jordan, a brother, Darrell Jordan, and her grandmother,

Pickle Welch Rosewood Chapel with burial in Trinity Memorial Park. He was born
Sept. 11, 1907, in Floyd County. He had owned and operated J.V. Bristow Butane
Co. of Ackerly and Vincent Grocery and Butane Co., and was a Baptist. Survivors
include his wife, Alice Bristow of Big Spring; two sons, Wayne Bristow of Big
Spring and Jimmie Bristow of Arlington; three daughters, Darlene Caffey of
Stanton, Patsy Shaw of Big Spring and Linda Cowan of Lenexa, Kan.; a sister,

SAN SABA - Gerald Wayne Miles, 49, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, in Amarillo.
Service will be at 4 p.m. Oct. 8 at Pecan Grove Baptist Church with burial in

born Oct. 30, 1948. A Marine veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a karate
instructor and was a member of the Pecan Grove Baptist Church and the Native
American Church of America. He was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Genevieve I. Kinney, 98, of San Angelo died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, in Meadow
Creek Nursing Home. Service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, in Johnson's
Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ben Hubert officiating. Burial will follow in
Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Kinney was born June 27, 1900, in Wheaton,
Kan., to Charles and Carrie Ingalsbe Swickard. She was a stenographer for
Security Benefit Association and a member of First Christian Church. Mrs.
Kinney was a member of Eastern Star. She married William Elmer ``Bill'' Kinney
Aug. 7, 1923, in Nevada, Mo. He preceded her in death Dec. 9, 1968. Survivors
include two nieces, Erleen Ray and Lucille Cornelius, both of Odessa.

Elizabeth Ruth Cason, 58, of San Angelo died at 5:42 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30,
1998, in a local hospital. She was born Sept. 4, 1910, in Crane. She was a
homemaker. She graduated from San Angelo Central High School and attended
Angelo State University. She was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses. Elizabeth is
survived by her son, Robert Mairen Uribe of San Angelo; two aunts, Edwina Hamm
of Andrews and La Verne Gossett of Fort Worth; a special cousin, Maxine
Winters; and numerous other cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother,
Buddy Manuel Cason in 1963; her mother, Ethelyn Cason in 1983; and her father,
Jessie M. Cason in 1997. Family visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
Friday, Oct. 2, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at 11
a.m. Friday in Fairmount Cemetery. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m.

Jewell Inez Lundquist, 83, of Garland died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, in
Dallas. Jewell was born Sept. 26, 1915, in Nacogdoches County, Texas. She was a
homemaker and a member of the Methodist church. She was married to Ebbe M.
Lundquist, and he preceded her in death on April 19, 1996. Survivors include
one sister, Katherine Payne of Garland; two brothers, Rayford Birdwell and his
wife, Joyce, of Silsbee and Wintford Birdwell and his wife, Fay, of Kountze;
nephews, Vance Payne and his wife, Luanne and their son, Ross Payne, all of

Brownsville. She was a retired nurse and a Baptist and a member of the
Daughters of the American Revolution. Survivors include two sons, Graham S.

grandchildren.

KERRVILLE - Florence Allen Blair, 95, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, in

She was born Dec. 9, 1902, in Hearne and had lived in Dallas, Houston and
Kerrville. She had been a private pilot and a registered records librarian.
Survivors include a daughter, Florence Volk Gregory of Annecy, France; a son,
Leonard W. Volk II of Dallas; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren;
and a nephew.

KINGSLAND - John L. Hull, 74, of Sunrise Beach died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, in

Hawthorne Funeral Home. He was born Sept. 25, 1924, in Houston and had lived in
Sunrise Beach since 1985. An Air Force veteran of World War II, he was a
retired executive vice president of Gray Tool Co. and a member of the Federated
Church. Survivors include his wife, LaVerne Hull of Sunrise Beach; three sons,

Nov. 2, 1929, in Fredericksburg and was a longtime resident of the Hill Country

GWEN ELLEN EPPS
Gwen Ellen Epps, devoted wife, loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-
grandmother, cousin and friend, exchanged her earthly home for her heavenly
home on Sept. 29, 1998, at 12:45 p.m. in San Antonio with her husband, George
Epps, and daughter, Terressa Holcomb, at her side. Gwen Ellen Davis, who became
affectionately known as Lil Sister, was born to Earl Joe Davis Sr. and Jerline
Mitchell on May 13, 1940, in San Angelo. She attended Blackshear School and was
a majorette. She confessed Christ at an early age while attending Brown Chapel
C.M.E. Church, therefore learning to put God first in her life. During her
marriage to George she traveled extensively. While residing in Anchorage,
Alaska, she attended IBM Computer School while employed there. In the early
'70s, she returned to San Angelo and became an LVN. She worked for San Angelo
State School and later retired from Baptist Memorials Hospital. She was a
faithful member at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church where she assisted the
youth department, was a choir member, missionary, deaconess and trustee. She
also was a member of the Ladies Community Club. Lil Sister also loved to play
bingo, fish, bowl, and cook for her family and church. Those who will cherish
her memory include her husband of 30 years, George E. Epps Sr. of San Angelo;
three sons, George E. Epps Jr. of Odenton, Md., Bruce Allen Epps of Sacramento,
Calif., and Anthony Frank Davis III of Tampa, Fla.; two daughters, Terressa
Holcomb of San Angelo and Gwen Ellen Brown of Severn, Md.; her father, Earl Joe
Davis Sr. of San Angelo; four brothers, Earl Joe Davis Jr. of Midland, Frank
James Davis of San Angelo and John Henry Davis and James Marvin Davis, both of
Midland; one sister, Mary Williams of Killeen; a special godson, Charles Davis
of St. Louis; a special niece, Rinchondra Davis of Dallas; 17 grandchildren;

CLEVA MAE LOWER
Cleva Mae Lower, 66, of San Angelo died Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, in a local
hospital. A celebration of life service for Cleva will be at 4 p.m. Monday,
Oct. 5, at the First United Methodist Church, officiated by the Rev. Carl
Rohlfs. Johnson's Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Mrs. Lower was born
Aug. 12, 1932, in Palaska, Texas. She married Roy Lower Jan. 28, 1955, in
Wichita Falls. Cleva and Roy moved to San Angelo in 1958 where she was employed
with the SAISD, having taught in the special ed program at Blackshear, Reagan
and Fannin elementary schools for more than 29 years. She was a member of the
First United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir from 1958 to 1996.
Mrs. Lower also sang in the San Angelo Symphony Chorale for many years. Cleva
was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, teacher and friend and will be greatly
missed. Survivors include her husband, Roy Lower of San Angelo; her daughter,
Christy Newman and her husband, Derek, of Grapevine; two sons, Dale Lower of
San Angelo and Mike Lower of Lakewood, Colo.; her granddaughter, Michele
Newman; one brother, Wayne Tiner and wife, Janice, of Abilene; and a brother-
in-law, Milton Dale Lower and his wife, Ann, of Austin. Honorary pallbearers
will be Bobby and Dorothy Stiles, Warren and Carolyn Griffen, Carl and Pat

FRANCES ALLYNE McMULLAN
MIDLAND - Frances Allyne ``Pete'' McMullan passed away Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998,
in her home. She was born Jan. 18, 1912, in Ozona to Mr. and Mrs. Harry J.
Friend Jr., a Crockett County Ranch couple. She was raised on a ranch in
Crockett County and graduated from Ozona High School in 1929. She married D.K.
McMullan, a Brewster County, Crockett County and Reagan County rancher on Oct.
7, 1934. D.K. and Pete lived at their home, ``The Bjorkman Ranch,''
headquarters of an old stagecoach stop in Crockett County for 65 years. She was
president and active member of the Twentieth Century Club in Big Lake and
recently was honored as a 60-year member. Pete was a member of the First United
Methodist Church in Big Lake. She played bridge with her dearest friends
monthly for 60 years. They raised their two children, Leslie Austin McMullan,
born Aug. 26, 1934, and Gayle McMullan Dodson, born Aug. 26, 1939, in Big Lake
and Crockett County. Leslie died July 29, 1972. After D.K.'s death in 1982, she
moved to Manor Park in Midland. She made many wonderful friends at her weekly
manicure and beauty shop appointments. Her dry sense of humor and priceless
comments made her a favorite. ``Nanie,'' as she was known to her family, was
known for her excellent cooking. She was a devoted ranch wife, serving
wonderful home-cooked meals for many West Texas cowboys. She will be remembered
standing at the ranchhouse door waiting for her family to arrive and enjoy her
freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. Nanie is survived by her daughter, Gayle
McMullan Dodson and husband, Doc, of Midland; daughter-in-law, Peggy McMullan
Jackson of San Angelo; four granddaughters, Paige McMullan Ragsdale and
husband, Joe Bob, of Sonora, Kelly Dodson Hullender and husband, Todd, of
Midland, Denisa McMullan Odiorne and husband, Lance, of Johnson City and Jamie
Dodson of New Braunfels; four great-granddaughters, Lacy Nicole Ragsdale, Ashby
Allyne Ragsdale, Meredith Blair Hullender and Millicent Brooke ``Mills''
Hullender; and one great-grandson, James Deak Odiorne; and two sisters-in-law,

To call Nanie just a grandmother is insufficient. She was a wonderful mother, a
caring grandmother and loving great-grandmother, but mostly our friend. We will
miss her sense of humor and incredible generosity, but we know our Nanie is in
heaven at the feet of our Lord Jesus Christ.

J.O. AYERS
James Osburn Ayers, 77, of Mertzon died Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, at his residence.
J.O. was born March 6, 1921, in Dimmitt, Texas, to James Oscar Ayers and Lou
Una Turner Ayers. He married Barbara Boggs on Nov. 13, 1942, in Lubbock. She
preceded him in death April 25, 1993. J.O. grew up farming in Castro County. He
joined the Army Air Force in 1942 and was stationed at Lubbock Airfield as a
photographer. He met and married Barbara in Lubbock. After leaving the service,
he and his wife returned to Castro County. They continued to farm and also
started a photography business. In 1960, he was offered a job for Marquise
Studio in Enid, Okla. He worked there for 27 years as plant manager and then
owner/operator. He retired to Anderson, Mo., on Patterson Creek in 1987. He
moved to Mertzon in 1995, where he enjoyed woodworking, raising goats and
visiting with friends and family. He is survived by two daughters, Sharron
Freitag and husband, Pinkie, of Mertzon and Toni Fritzler and husband, Ron, of
Southwest City, Mo.; two brothers, Dr. Buell Ayers and wife, Novalene, of
Bartlesville, Okla., and Billie Ayers of Anderson, Mo.; six grandchildren; 13
great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Honorary
pallbearers are Lynn Freitag, Carl Fritzler, Don Douglas, Eddie Martin, J.D.
Parker, J.D. Mobley, Howard Parks and Melvin Lawdermilk. Memorial service will

Edwin A. Kasner, ``Papa,'' of San Angelo went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ
on Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, at the age of 71. He will be dearly missed by his
family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Darthea Kasner; a son,
CurtKasner of San Angelo; a daughter, Karen Gagliano of Universal City; a
brother, Arthur Kasner; two grandsons, Andy and Chris Kasner; a granddaughter,
Elaine Coloura; and a great-grandson, Levi Kasner. Ed was born Dec. 19, 1926,
to Albert and Irma Kasner of Rosebud. He married Darthea Jaynes on June 18,
1949. They owned Lacy Carpet Co. and Angelo Rug Cleaners. He was known
throughout the business community for his honesty and integrity. ``Papa''
taught the love of God to his children and grandchildren. His lawn was the
gathering place of the neighborhood. He was an avid fisherman, a tradition he
shared with loved ones and friends. Ed was a faithful member of Our Redeemer
Lutheran Church. Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, in

Travis J. Brewer, 84, of San Angelo died Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, in a local

Funeral Home. He was born April 9, 1914, in West Station and had been a
resident of San Angelo since 1992. He was self-employed. Survivors include his
wife, Floy Brewer of San Angelo; a daughter, Doris Ann Collins of San
Francisco; two stepsons, Monte Paxton of Tatum, N.M., and Ronnie Paxton of
Eldorado; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

COLEMAN - Carl F. Stewart, 86, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, in a local

burial in Coleman City Cemetery. He was born April 27, 1912, in Gouldbusk and
had been a lifetime resident of Coleman County. An Army veteran, he was retired
from the postal services and was a Methodist. Survivors include his wife, Sarah

Freddie Stewart of Coleman; and a sister, Loucille Aston of Coleman.

BIG SPRING - Ralph C. Hadley, 84, of Houston died Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, at his

Home. He was born June 15, 1914, in Sumner County, Kan., and had lived in

four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

was born March 26, 1909, in Bell County and was a longtime resident of Bronte.
She was a nurse's aide at Bronte Hospital and member of the First Baptist

a Baptist. Survivors include two grandchildren, Karen Clardy Aldridge of Novice
and Mark Clardy of Austin; and four great-grandchildren.

ESTELLE F. RYAN
Estelle F. Ryan, 87, of San Angelo died early Sunday morning, Oct. 4, 1998, at
her residence. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, in
Fairmount Cemetery. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. Mrs. Ryan was
born Sept. 20, 1911, in Tacoma, Wash. She was a devoted Army wife and a loving
mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had lived in San Angelo for 18
years. She was preceded in death in 1990 by her husband, Lt. Col. Phillip W.
Ryan, U.S. Army retired. She is survived by two sons, Michael and wife, Jill,
of San Angelo and Patrick and wife, Grace, of Oklahoma City; one sister, Anne
Graumann of San Angelo; two granddaughters, Rachel Kenney of San Antonio and
Nicole Corkery and husband, Billy, of Havertown,{CQ} Pa.; two grandsons, Kevin
and wife, Dee, of RAF Mildenhall, England and Sean of Lubbock; one great-
granddaughter, Mallory Corkery; and three great-grandsons, Andrew Corkery,
Devin Ryan and Ryan Kenney; and two special friends, Tinker and Tu. She was a
supporter of Fort Concho, the San Angelo Humane Society and was a member of the
Norwest Leading Ladies. The family would like to express appreciation to Fazlur
Rahman, Dr. O. Sterling Gillis and Kathy and Bob with Family Hospice for their

SALISBURY, Mo. - Erna Mae Jameson Leatherwood, 88, of Salisbury passed away
suddenly at her home Wednesday morning, Sept. 30, 1998. She was born May 7,
1910, in Olin, Texas, the daughter of Earl L. and Clara Elizabeth (Farmer)
Jameson. She was married to B.Z. Leatherwood Sept. 2, 1931, in Lubbock, Texas.
She was a member of the Salisbury First Baptist Church and also a member of the
Eastern Star No. 405 of Marshall, Mo. She is survived by one son, Dr. W.W.
Leatherwood and his wife, Bette; one brother, Turner Jameson of Sweetwater,
Texas; one sister, Irene Prince of Vancouver, Wash.; four grandchildren,
Michael Leatherwood of Chester, Va., Martin Leatherwood of Brady, Mona Acton of
New Bloomfield, Mo., and Zack Leatherwood of Sapulpa, Okla.; and 11 great-
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, March 12, 1998; one
sister; and two brothers. Service was at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at McFadden-
Fuemmeler Funeral Home in Salisbury. Burial was in Eastlawn Memory Garden in
Salisbury. the Rev. Stanley Henderson officiated. Pallbearers were Martin
Leatherwood, Zack Leatherwood, Michael Leatherwood, Marvin Hutchinson, Kay
Penrod and John Rice. The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church

FRANCES ALLYNE McMULLAN
MIDLAND - Frances Allyne ``Pete'' McMullan passed away Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998,
in her home. She was born Jan. 18, 1912, in Ozona to Mr. and Mrs. Harry J.
Friend Jr., a Crockett County Ranch couple. She was raised on a ranch in
Crockett County and graduated from Ozona High School in 1929. She married D.K.
McMullan, a Brewster County, Crockett County and Reagan County rancher on Oct.
7, 1934. D.K. and Pete lived at their home, ``The Bjorkman Ranch,''
headquarters of an old stagecoach stop in Crockett County for 60 years. She was
president and active member of the Twentieth Century Club in Big Lake and
recently was honored as a 60-year member. Pete was a member of the First United
Methodist Church in Big Lake. She played bridge with her dearest friends
monthly for 60 years. They raised their two children, Leslie Austin McMullan,
born Aug. 26, 1936, and Gayle McMullan Dodson, born Aug. 26, 1939, in Big Lake
and Crockett County. Leslie died July 29, 1972. After D.K.'s death in 1982, she
moved to Manor Park in Midland. She made many wonderful friends at her weekly
manicure and beauty shop appointments. Her dry sense of humor and priceless
comments made her a favorite. ``Nanie,'' as she was known to her family was
known for her excellent cooking. She was a devoted ranch wife, serving
wonderful home-cooked meals for many West Texas cowboys. She will be remembered
standing at the ranchhouse door waiting for her family to arrive and enjoy her
freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. Nanie is survived by her daughter, Gayle
McMullan Dodson and husband, Doc, of Midland; daughter-in-law, Peggy McMullan
Jackson of San Angelo; four granddaughters, Paige McMullan Ragsdale and
husband, Joe Bob, of Sonora, Kelly Dodson Hullender and husband, Todd, of
Midland, Denisa McMullan Odiorne and husband, Lance, of Johnson City and Jamie
Dodson of New Braunfels; four great-granddaughters, Lacy Nicole Ragsdale, Ashby
Allyne Ragsdale, Meredith Blair Hullender and Millicent Brooke ``Mills''
Hullender; and one great-grandson, James Deak Odiorne; and two sisters-in-law,

To call Nanie just a grandmother is insufficient. She was a wonderful mother, a
caring grandmother and loving great-grandmother, but mostly our friend. We will
miss her sense of humor and incredible generosity, but we know our Nanie is in

F.W. ``Buddy'' Barton, 72, of San Angelo died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, at his

Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. Mr. Barton was born Jan. 29, 1926,
in Washington, D.C., to Wilbur and Irene LaSalle Barton. He served in the
American Merchant Marine in Oceangoing Service during World War II. Buddy
married Billie V. Whitehurst at Bladensburg,{CQ} Md., in 1949. He served as
chief construction inspector for the city of San Angelo. He was a Shriner,
Master Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite. Buddy always considered himself
``Almost a Texan.'' Survivors include his wife, Billie Barton of San Angelo;
two sons, Richard Barton of Fort Worth, Kenneth Barton of Tampa, Fla., and a
special daughter-in-law, Lisa Barton of Tampa; two granddaughters, Kayla and
Kara Barton of Tampa; and one sister, Wilirene D. Hettenhouser of Odenton, Md.

Carson Walter Seals, 91, of San Angelo died Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, in Meadow
Creek Nursing Home. Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5, in the First
Baptist Church chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Laughlin officiating. Burial will
follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral
Home. Carson was born Jan. 20, 1907, in Eola to Arley Oscar Seale{CQ} and Nora
Florence Cope Seale, and was a lifetime resident of this area. He was a retired
owner and operator of several service stations in San Angelo and was a Mason in
Masonic Lodge 1260 for more than 50 years. Carson was a member of the First
Baptist Church and the Goodfellow Sunday school class. Carson was married to
Edna E. Hudgins on July 26, 1928, in Pecan Station. She preceded him in death
on March 6, 1990. Survivors include one son, Harold Seals and wife, Jerrie, of
San Angelo; one daughter, Norma Cummings of San Angelo; three half sisters,
Melba Light and husband, George, of Snyder, Felba Ware of Sun City, Ariz., and
Jo Alice Bohannon of Orlando, Fla.; four half brothers, Vondean Seale of
Sweetwater, Herman Seale and wife, Ronnie, of Sun City, Dan Seale and wife,
Billie, of Phoenix and Johnny Seale and wife, Joyce, of Sun City; five

and had lived in Kerrville for two years, moving from Tampa, Fla. She was a

and G. Julie Yakabe of Darnestown,{CQ} Md.; a son, John L. Grunert of Bethel,
Conn.; a sister, Bertha Marsden of Ocala, Fla.; six grandchildren; and 10

Obituaries
JOHN W. MORRISON
John W. Morrison of San Angelo went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on
Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, at the age of 89. John was born March 9, 1909, in
Moriarty, N.M., to W.M. and Mary Alice Morrison. His family moved after a short
time to Konawa, Okla., where he lived until becoming a minister of the Lord in
``The Church of God of Prophecy.'' He pastored churches in Oklahoma, Arizona
and Texas. He was also state overseer of Nevada for two years. He was a
missionary to Mexico and has many friends there. He was not afraid to go door
to door passing out gospel tracts and witnessing to all he came in contact with
about the saving power of Jesus Christ. He preached his last sermon from his
wheelchair in the home of his son, Darrell, two weeks before passing into
glory. John married Lena Lewis on July 22, 1939, in Sapulpa, Okla. They
traveled and worked for God together. John is survived by his wife of 59 years,
Lena Morrison; two sons, Harold Morrison and Cathy Morrison of Tulsa, Okla.,
and Darrell Morrison and wife, Darla, of Miles; one daughter, Naomi Humphrey
and husband, Art; son-in-law, Jesse Scott of Kerrville; two sisters, Opal
Cravins and Gladys Lankford, both of Oklahoma City; 10 grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; and in spirit, several adopted children and grandchildren.
He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by
a daughter, Phyllis Scott, in 1993. They are now rejoicing together at the feet
of Jesus. Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Robert Massie
Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Rev. Hobert Tomlinson and L.C. Messer.
Burial will be in Miles Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Blake Scott, Daryl Goff,
William Bennett, Guy Charlton, Donald Whitesell and Arnold Whitesell. The
family requests memorials be sent to Hospice of San Angelo.

HICO - Neith Robinson Price Marwitz, 101, of San Angelo died Sunday, Oct. 4,
1998, in a San Angelo nursing home. Service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6,
in the Rutledge Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Sylvester
officiating. Burial will be in Hico Cemetery. Mrs. Marwitz was born Dec. 28,
1896, in Hamilton, Wash. On Aug. 9, 1914, she married Sterling Price in Indian
Gap, Texas. They had three sons, Walter, Neil and John. Mr. Price preceded her
in death in 1955. She then married August Marwitz on July 5, 1966. She had
eight stepchildren, Clara, Minnie, Henry, Alwine, Annie, Pauline, Willie and
Edna. She is survived by two sons, Neil Price and wife, Margie, of Albuquerque,
N.M., and John Price and wife, Jeane, of San Angelo; four grandchildren, Bill
Price, Donna Bradley and Pamela Cox, all of San Angelo, and Larry Price of
Albuquerque; three great-grandchildren, William and Paula Bradley and Billy
Price of San Angelo; and four stepdaughters, Annie Roberts and Edna Hopper,
both of Indian Gap, Pauline Hopper of Fort Worth and Alwine Swindle of Austin.
FLOYD CHARLES JONES
HAWLEY - Floyd Charles Jones, 57, of Hawley, went to be with our Lord on
Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, in M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. He fought
leukemia for the past four years. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Salvation Army Chapel at 1715 Poplar St. in Abilene.
Floyd was born April 6, 1941, in San Angelo and graduated from Lake View High
School in 1960. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1963 to 1970 aboard various
submarines. He lived in Jones County, and in the Funston community for the past
14 years with his family. He was married to Jearlene Jones for the past 19
years. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Funston for the past 10
years and attended the Salvation Army Church with his wife for the past three
years. He worked for JANANCO Inc., owned by Jarrell Edwards, for the past 6«
years doing electrical maintenance. He is survived by his loving wife of
Hawley; his parents, Floyd and Charlotte Jones of Nolan; his brother, Gary Ray
Jones and wife, Ann, of Duncan, Okla.; his devoted son, James F. Jones and
wife, Darlene, of San Angelo; and loving daughters, Lani Jones-Sandstrom and
husband, Tim, of Lompoc, Calif., Teria Nassett of Abilene and Lisa Nassett-
Futrelle and husband, Eric, of Abilene; seven grandchildren, Joshua, Justin,
Jarett, Crystal, Cody, Meagan and Kourtney; and several nieces and nephews,
cousins, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his beloved brother Joey
Jones, and surviving wife, Wanda, of San Angelo. Through his family and
friends, you can see his smile, hear his laughter and feel his love. He will
always be missed and never forgotten.

George William Wright, 84, of San Angelo died Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, in a local
nursing home. Military graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7,
in Fairmount Cemetery with the Rev. A.J. Kennemer officiating. Arrangements are
by Robert Massie Funeral Home. George was born June 18, 1914, in Midland. He
married Reba Retha Knox on Nov. 8, 1971, in San Angelo. George was a member of
Harris Avenue Baptist Church and had been a resident of San Angelo since 1956.
George was preceded in death by his parents, John and Emma Wright, and his
wife, Reba Wright. Survivors include a stepson, Garland Franklin of San Angelo;
a stepdaughter, Theresa Reynolds of Cisco; two brothers, Thomas Wright of
Midland and Jasper Wright of Big Spring; a sister, Lottie Faye McDaniel of Big
Spring; and many nieces and nephews.

LLANO - Marie Wentsch, 72, of Blue Lake died Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, in Blue
Lake. Marie was born Sept. 19, 1926, in Coleman and had lived in Blue Lake
since 1979, coming from Washington, D.C. She graduated from the University of
Texas at Austin in 1946. She married George M. Wentsch on Aug. 5, 1950, in San
Angelo. She was a homemaker and a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Llano.
She was a sustaining member of the Austin Junior League, Kappa Kappa Gamma
sorority and the Daughters of the King. She also was an avid supporter of the
University of Texas women's basketball program. Marie was preceded in death by
her twin brother, Scott Snodgrass Jr. She is survived by her husband, retired
Maj. Gen. George M. Wentsch, USAF, of Blue Lake; two daughters, Rhoda Wilson of
Winter Park, Fla., and Elizabeth Wilson of Blue Lake; and a son, David Wentsch
of Arlington. Memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Episcopal
Church with the Rev. David Mossbarger and the Rev. John Dunham officiating.
Committal service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Hillside Cemetery in Cuero.

FRANK ULLRICH
BALLINGER - Frank Ullrich, 78, of Miles died in his country home Monday
morning, Oct. 5, 1998, surrounded by his family and pets. Rosary will be at
7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Miles. Mass will be
at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with Father Stephen Kennelly officiating.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Rowena. Arrangements are
by Rains-Seale Funeral Home. Frank was born on July 16, 1920, to Emil and Mary
Schwertner Ullrich in the CrossRoads community near Miles, where he attended
school. He married Ruby Braden on Nov. 27, 1945, at St. Joseph Church in
Rowena. They moved to a farm near Miles. He was a lifelong farmer in the Miles
and Rowena area and a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church. When he no longer
farmed full time, he restored antique farm machinery, especially family items.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Bobby Ullrich; sisters,
Emma Schniers and Frieda Kohrmann; and a brother, Walter Ullrich. He is
survived by his wife, Ruby, of Miles; a son, Allen Ullrich and his wife,
Suzanne, of Rowena; a granddaughter, Kathi Chitsey and her husband, Corby; and
great-granddaughters, Bobbi Ellen and Maddi Mae Chitsey. He is also survived by
three sisters, Mary Moeller and Helen Ullrich, both of Rowena, and Florine
Schmid and her husband, Edwin, of Brenham; a sister-in-law, Dorine Cmerek and
her husband, August, of Miles; and two brothers-in-law, Leo Kohrmann of
Socorro, N.M., and Hugo Braden and his wife, Susann, of Upper Marlboro, Md.

Geraldine L. Dillon Rogers, 83, of Big Lake died Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, in a San

in Pittsburg, Okla., to Rufus and Mamie (Cooper) Dillon. She grew up near
Comstock. She attended the Shannon School of Nursing and was a registered
surgical nurse. She nursed in Texon and in Big Lake. She was the owner and
operator of Peoples Drug Store in Big Lake for many years. Dillon married R.E.
Rogers in 1940, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 7, 1965. Survivors
includeher daughter and son-in-law, Loy and Roy Dudley of San Angelo; two
grandchildren, Erin Dudley and Morgan Dudley, both of San Angelo; one sister,
Irene Humphreys; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dillon Rogers was a loving
wife, mother and grandmother and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

Grube of Tucson, Ariz., Fanettea Davis of Sacramento, Calif., and Janet Bishop
of Lockhart; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Cissy Garrett
Earl Wayne ``Cissy'' Garrett, 79, of San Angelo died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998.
Memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Emmanuel Episcopal Church with
the Rev. Michael Smith and the Rev. Robert Hedges officiating. Arrangements are
by Robert Massie Funeral Home.
She was born Feb. 11, 1919, in Dallas. An Army Air Corps veteran, she was a
registered nurse and a restaurant manager. She was a member of the Eastern Star
and Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
Survivors include three sons, John Thomas Garrett of Harlingen, Nolan Wayne
Garrett of Waco and David Taylor Garrett of Brownwood; a sister, Merle June
Krepper; two brothers, Fred Neumann of Beaumont and Charles Neumann of Groves;
14 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mildred Galloway
SANTA ANNA - Mildred Galloway, 83, of Santa Anna died Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, in
a Brownwood hospital.
Service will be at 2 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church with burial in
Santa Anna Cemetery. Arrangements are by Henderson Funeral Home.
She was born April 29, 1915, in Waxahachie and was a longtime resident of Santa
Anna. She owned and operated G&E Hardware and was a member of the First United
Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Chester Galloway of Santa Anna; a sister,
Pauline Eubank of Santa Anna; a brother, David Eubank of San Antonio; and
numerous nieces and nephews.
George Allison
SWEETWATER - George Edwin Allison, 83, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998, in a local
hospital.
Service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in McCoy Chapel of Memories with burial in
Garden of Memories.
He was born June 30, 1915, in Muncie, Ind. A Navy veteran of World War II, he
was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge 571.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Allison of Sweetwater; a sister, Sarah
Ann Allison of Midland; and several cousins.
Vicky Miller
OZONA - Vicky Pierce Miller, 80, of Ozona died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998, in Ozona.
Service will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Ozona United Methodist Church with
burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are by Preddy Funeral Home.
She was born Oct. 21, 1917, in San Angelo and had lived on the Eugene Miller
Ranch for 60 years. She was a rancher and a member of the Ozona United
Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene ``Jake'' Miller of Ozona; a son, Pierce
Miller of San Angelo; a daughter, Robilen Miller of San Angelo; a brother,
Miles Pierce of Pagosa Springs, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-
grandchildren.
Jesse Salgado
BIG SPRING - Jesse M. Salgado, 52, died Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, in a local
hospital.
Prayer service will be at 8 p.m. today in Myers & Smith Funeral Home Chapel.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with burial in
Ackerly Cemetery.
He was born March 11, 1946, in Big Spring and was a longtime resident. He had
worked at the Settles Hotel, Hall Bennett Hospital and the city of Big Spring.
He was a member of Templo Belen Assembly of God.
Survivors include two sons, David Salgado of Big Spring and Jesse Salgado of
Fort Collins, Colo.; seven brothers, Mike Rodriquez, Martin Rodriquez and
Erasmo Rodriquez, all of Brownfield, Armando Salgado of Big Spring, Manuel
Ramirez and Joe Ramirez, both of Denver, and Jimmy Franco of Hobbs, N.M.; eight
sisters, Marcellas Salinas, Cruz Jacquez, Angelita Martinez, Lucy Aguirre and
Mary Ann Vasquez, all of Brownfield, Josie Hernandez and Esperanza Gonzales,
both of Lamesa, and Mary Perez of Denver; three grandchildren; and numerous
aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

GEORGE WILLIAM WRIGHT
George William Wright, 84, of San Angelo died Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, in a local
nursing home.
Military graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, in Fairmount
Cemetery with the Rev. A.J. Kennemer officiating. Arrangements are by Robert
Massie Funeral Home.
George was born June 18, 1914, in Midland. He married Reba Retha Knox on Nov.
8, 1971, in San Angelo. George was a member of Harris Avenue Baptist Church and
had been a resident of San Angelo since 1956.
George was preceded in death by his parents, John and Emma Wright, and his
wife, Reba Wright.
Survivors include a stepson, Garland Franklin of San Angelo; a stepdaughter,
Theresa Reynolds of Cisco; two brothers, Thomas Wright of Midland and Jasper
Wright of Big Spring; a sister, Lottie Faye McDaniel of Big Spring; and many
nieces and nephews.
DILLON ROGERS
BIG LAKE - Geraldine L. Dillon Rogers, 83, of Big Lake died Monday, Oct. 5,
1998, in a San Angelo nursing home.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, in Glen Rest Cemetery in
Big Lake officiated by the Rev. Paul Terry. Arrangements are by Johnson's
Funeral Home of San Angelo.
Mrs. Rogers was born May 4, 1915, in Pittsburg, Okla., to Rufus and Mamie
(Cooper) Dillon. She grew up near Comstock. She attended the Shannon School of
Nursing and was a registered surgical nurse. She nursed in Texon and in Big
Lake. She was the owner and operator of Peoples Drug Store in Big Lake for many
years. Dillon married R.E. Rogers in 1940, and he preceded her in death on Nov.
7, 1965.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Loy and Roy Dudley of San
Angelo; two grandchildren, Erin and Morgan Dudley, both of San Angelo; one
sister, Irene Humphreys; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dillon Rogers was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and friend and will be
missed by all who knew her.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff of Hospice of San Angelo
and Baptist Memorials Center and requests memorials be made to them that they
may continue to provide such outstanding service to the community.
